Stuck in Processing

Since I have installed The Sims 3 Pets my game has gone stuck in "Processing" in Create a Family... But ONLY when I add a dog to the family...
Horses work fine, cats work fine, and so do people, but not dogs...
Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

I've only had the expansion since Christmas, I have all the other ones before that, and I don't have any custom content whatsoever... I did have some, but I took it out and reinstalled the game and all expansions. Obviously, this didn't help either!

I've read somewhere that it's because the latest patch is simply not good and that I shouldn't update my game. Ever. But is that true?
Does anyone else have the same problem?

I have all expansions and have always patched my game so it can't be just the patch. Have you any mods or CC?
