Hi there,
Well, after spending much too long trying to get rid of the memory errors that prevented CAW from launching - then from opening *any* height map - I seem to have gotten it working.
The thing is... I'm sure I've gotten the height map done right. But when I import it, it looks absolutely nothing like it. I've tried the three different elevation settings (100,200,300) and have created the map twice with a varying scale.
I used this tutorial: http://builders.forumotion.net/t1151-tutorial-how-to-create-a-world-using-real-world-height-data
For the curious, the map is of Thailand - primarily Phuket.
This is one of the maps:

I get nada only using it - no elevation whatsoever.
And with this one....

... this is what I get:

What am I missing here?
They are 16 bit grayscale PNGs, 1024x1024, and saved in Adobe Fireworks since I'm more comfortable with it than Photoshop.
