View Full Version : missing grave :(
15th Feb 2012, 4:29 AM
Something very worrisome I noticed while playing a residental lot: my playable rebought her childhood home after graduation. While she was in still in school, both her parents died (Mom while pregnant & spending too much time playing in the snow; Dad died of a broken heart, thanks to storyline).
After Grim showed up, I placed Dad's urn beside Mom's in a pretty little corner of the lot, & used moveobjects to place a deco tombstone over both graves. Mom shows up every now & then as a ghost, but just noticed that Dad's grave is "empty", deco stone still there, but his grave has disappeared completely. I am concerned that he might have been deleted somehow (would never intentionaly do that) but his picture is still in the family tree.
I'm not sure when this might have happened as I have been going thru my downloads & spending more time at another house. I will, very shortly, be running to very community lot to see if it somehow ended up there, fingers crossed!!
If anyone has other suggestions, I would be very grateful! Thank you!
*whew* okay just found him :) was seriously getting worried about corruption there for a minute. His urn was hiding behind the couch in a corner, which is where he died. I don't know how that happened, I'm glad I decided to move some furnitature around before I spent too much time in a panic :faceslap:

okay...I am going to get a bit worried now...was playing the forementioned lot again, hopeing to get "Dad's" ghost to appear, seeing as "Mom" had been popping in & out of the tv for about a simweek. When Alison went off to bed, her Mom did appear again, the game speed was on triple (as per norm) so I didn't quite catch exactly what happened, however I did see Mom so the whole "shaking the tombstone" bit, but oddly, while she was doing that, the tombstone was about 3 squares away from where it was supposed to be. Didn't think anything of it until I went into buy mode to get a new couch (stray dog destroyed last one when Alison went off to work after greeting it), then I noticed that Mom's tombstone had disappeared completely off the lot. I sold off the deco headstones that I had placed, I moved all the furnature around to see if her urn was playing hide & seek, I checked the spot where she died, thinking it might have gone back there, I even checked the roof...nothing. Luckily I hadn't saved since before Mom had been out, so did exit without saving & the tombstone was back where it belonged...so, question is:
Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening? Has this happened to anyone else? Is this lot or the neighborhood borked?
is this the right forum for this or should I just put it in the discussion boards? :) I am curious if this has happened to someone else...

This is the right forum. No one answered your original post because it was obvious you had solved your problem.
However, this is definitely an odd problem which we haven't seen before.
I don't suppose that you made a backup before you tried the untested method of covering your tombstones with the deco tombstones? If so, your best bet may be to restore from that backup and avoid the deco tombstones altogether.
If you don't have a backup from before you installed the deco tombstones, my suggestion is that you backup now and run some tests.
Delete the deco tombstones. Play the lot and see whether it seems to be working.
If not, restore from your backup and trying moving the family (with tombstones) to another lot. If the tombstones start behaving, then the deco tombstones may have corrupted the lot. If you don't mind losing the lot, you could just bulldoze it. If you really want to try to salvage it, you could try editing the unoccupied lot in build mode and then saving the lot. Be sure to keep a backup before trying the lot again, just in case it doesn't work.
If the tombstones continue to be a problem on another lot, then the deco tombstones may have corrupted the tombstones. If so, there may be nothing that you can do to save your neighborhood.
Please let us know what happens.

Thank you Mootilda! I figured that was why no one had answered previously :) It was nice to see that someone thought it was funny too :)
Sadly no back ups, but I have deleted the decos, will be trying your suggestions shortly, thank you...do I just pop the tombstones into someone's inventory to move them? will try it, haven't done that before, but will give it a go...I have no qualms about bulldozing the lot; if the tombstones do turn out to be corrupted & the neighborhood on it's way to a BFBVS, will just deleting the neighborhood from the main screen be safe? I'm not too far into the storyline, so not too bothered about pitching the whole parcel if that's what would be safer...
Okay, went into lot, popped tombstones into Alison's inventory, moved her out into fresh lot & bulldozed previous. Oddly, when I set up the graves in new lot I could not get Mom's to 'straighten' out (I had used 45degreeanglerotation to place it in old lot) but she did appear the first night. What was also good was that Dad did as well, although there is something odd going on with his hair...I think that maybe the 'hood is heading towards imploding :( I went to have a look at a local church that I had previously had no problem entering but game crashed mid-loading. I had thought that this was only happening at another lot that I had deleted (Thank you explaining that properly Mootilda :) ) but it seems that it's carried over...

Yes, you can just delete the neighborhood in the main screen; that should be completely safe.
If you want to spend more time on this, then my next suggestion is to backup your neighborhood and then remove all of your custom content. This may help you to decide whether there's a problem with your CC. If all of your problems disappear, then there's something wrong with your CC.

yeah, it's looking like another RL week will be spent doing just that....I had just got back to playing again after spending literally 2weeks doing just that to try to sort out a jump bug, bright side, at least it is all organized now, so should make the job easer
one last question: I noticed that when Alison was chatting on the computer, she kept having blank thought bubbles or ones that would only have a red "X" (nothing behind red "X"), just to clarify, is this a sign of borking? I know that the squiggly lines are apparently, thankfully haven't seen any of those...

I don't know whether a red X with nothing behind it is a sign of corruption or not. Perhaps someone else knows?
