I live in the UK so have travelled quite a bit through Europe. I can highly recommend Budapest. We stayed on the Buda side which is lovely but I think next time it'd be Margaret Island (an island in the middle of the Danube which is a large park) it can be quite studenty and bohemian in the summer. We are going to New York next year (getting married there). It never has really appealed to me as I'm not a nightlife person or shopper but my fiance lived there before and loves it so we'll see. The only touristy place in the U.S. which appeals is New Orleans but I'd like to see Arizona and some small, more typically American towns. Apart from the technicality of crossing the river in Istanbul to reach 'Asia' I haven't ever left Europe which is a shame :-( In the next few years I'd like to visit India, definitely go back to Greece and maybe see Moscow. I just think life is way too short to visit all the places I want to and it's quite addictive - no only do I get new ideas of places to go but have several I'd like to go back to!

My dream is to go to Japan one day. Seems like one of the most awesome places in the world. The only negative things is how crowdy it is over there :S I tend to get stressed when there's too many people around me. Hehe. I also want to go the states some day. New York city, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami.. I've been to 15 countries or something and all of them besides one are in Europe. I still want to see Asia, Australia and America:)
From the countries and cities I've been to I can really recommend Edinburgh (Lovely people and culture), Rome (Most wonderfull city I've been too), London (My favourite place of the world so far. Gonna move there after summer), Monte Carlo (there's just something special about the whole town. Sadly we only got some hours there), Barcelona (aww.. Remember to visit Camp Nou) and of course don't remember to check out Aalesund in Norway (coastal town nearby Geiranger which is on UNESCO's list. It's the largest town in the region and has some beautiful Art Nouveau architecture).

Well I'm the kind of person who is happy her feets are on the ground and not in a plane lol
But if I had the funds and the will..I would say Egypt . I would love to see the pyramid/Pharaohs without the crazyness/killing...before someone go and blow them up .
That's the only place I know interest me , I'm sure the world is full of beautiful places...but Egypt is part of childhood memories .

Living in the US can really suck because international travel is more difficult (though not as bad as Australia). I've never been out of the country but next year I'm traveling to Germany.
In terms of US travel, the farthest I've been (I live in Pennsylvania on the east coast) is Arizona and I've also been to Disney, the Carolinas, Virginia, Upstate NY, DC, etc.

I like to travel though I haven't travelled out of the UK for quite a long time now (I've had a serious illness which has prevented that) . However, I teach international students and so get a cultural interchange fix from that. I also get a lot of invites along the lines of "if you are ever in Chengdu (!?!), you must come and meet my family..." and so on. I've had a standing invitation to visit a student in St Petersberg for about three years running now. I'd love to go.

This thread made me realize that I have been exactly nowhere.
I have traveled my entire country many times but I have never been outside the borders. Unless you count Swaziland, but it doesn't count.
I think if I had to choose one place I would say Namibia.
Apparently we went there when I was 6 months old but of course I can't remember.
All I know is that I have been painting Namibia's desert landscapes all my life, sometimes as alien planets but still. I would love to see it
.
I wouldn't mind seeing China either, it is a truly beautiful country.
OO and I have to see the Northern Lights. I am insanely jealous of people who see them all the time.

Ah, travel. For me, it's merely a dream. Someday I would love to traverse the globe, but I lack the funds. Right now, I'm studying Italian in good faith. Who knows, maybe one day...
Alright, didn't mean to sound so wistful. But I really would like to travel. I've been to a very limited number of states and have seen a small bit of Canada, but that's the extent of it. Italy's on the top of my list, followed by Ireland, France, and Australia.

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/61159666.jpg Like this? The Northern light over my hometown. We usually don't see it that much here, but lately there's been some huge solar storms which has made some beautiful light over the town. Too bad it's a lot of rain and fog here :/

YES!! Are you saying this picture is with fog?! Or is this an older picture?
My husband and I love watching the sky.
Our next budget is a telescope. My birthday is at the end of May so I am crossing my fingers and toes.
It must be utterly amazing having that in your sky it is like swimming in the universe.
I have always wondered does it make a sound? It looks like it should.
Does it drive the cats crazy? My cats go nuts when the moon is really big in the sky- their pupils go huge and they revert to kitten. we always say they sucked too much moonlight. :)

No this is from one of our few clear days :) Hehe. But it's raining a lot where I come from so we usually just see a grey sky, but it's really lovely when the sun is finally up!
I'm embarrassed to say it, but to have grown up in Norway I have not seen much of the Northern light myself. Loads of my friends are running around taking pictures of it all night long, while I always forget about it. Same with meteor showers or solar eclipses. I'm just slow XD
I have a cat and it seems ok with whatever weather is outside. It's mostly inside though as it basically hate staying outside for long:P

Oh yeah, very much in love with travelling now!
I literally just got back from my very first overseas trip - to New Zealand! I very much fell in love with the scenery in the fjordlands there and am planning to give up a few months to properly backpack around. :)
So now I have the travel bug! I'm plotting a lot of trips over the following years. My next trip will be spending New Years this year in Fiji or Bali or maybe another cruise trip... dunno yet! We will see whats on sale. Anyway I will also be plotting to go to Switzerland after that, and travel Europe as a backpacker from there. :D

Wow. That's beautiful.
You're lucky to be able to see things like that right at home. hah. I'm jealous.
I've never been overseas. I was born in North Carolina, but moved to West Virginia when I was a few months old. I moved in with my husband in New Jersey about a year ago. So I've done a lot of traveling.
The farthest I've gone is Niagara Falls. I'd love to go to Australia and/or Japan though. Or Hawaii, if that counts.

As a child and into my older teens, I lived in a very naive bubble. I thought it was the standard for almost everyone to travel whether on family road trips to other states or at least once overseas. Many of the kids I knew growing up had traveled to at least one or two other states and a few to other countries. So I thought everyone did. It wasn't until I was a young adult that I realized how fortunate I was and still am to an extent.
My family has always traveled. It was almost like clockwork and so regular that I could practically physically feel when it was time for trip planning to start. Always during the summer and when I was very young, sometimes Thanksgiving and definitely Christmas, and almost always Spring Break.
Usually it was to Florida since that's where most of my family on both sides live. But there were many summers where road trips were involved. Almost every summer was spent partly in Daytona Beach and Disney World. Family road trips (and I'm talking extended family) were usually every or every other summer, too, and varied between regular vacation destinations (like Washington DC) or new places everyone wanted to visit (though sometimes us kids didn't care because there was history involved lol).
As we all got older a lot of those big trips started to dwindle, as it's harder to get around busier schedules with school and work. But we still always tried to plan one big get together in the summer.
In the more recent past my dad had the opportunity to work in Belgium for almost 3 years. That allowed my parents to do a lot of traveling which they both enjoyed thoroughly. And it allowed me and my brother to travel a bit more in Europe, though my brother was more able to utilize the opportunity with college friends and traveled more than I did. We'd both already been to London and Paris before all of this.
All in all with the various opportunities we had, I've been able to travel to England, France (just Paris), Italy (loved Venice), Belgium, and a huge wonderful tour through Ireland with my husband. Ireland had always been on the very tip top of my list of places to go. The problem is that I didn't get nearly enough and want to go back desperately. I'd be pretty content to live there I think.
In the US, I've been all over from coast to coast, including living in 4 states.
On my list of places to go overseas:
Ireland, there's simply too much to see in one trip
England, same as Ireland
Scotland
Wales
Italy, was only in Florence and Venice
Germany
Austria, if only to see the Spanish Riding School
Greece
I would love to go on an African safari
In the States:
Alaska
Hawaii
Maine and Vermont again
Louisiana
Mostly in the States it's more about specific locations/cities which would add more to my list, whereas in some of the European destinations it's the countryside and ruins I'm more interested in. This irritated my husband while in Ireland since I wanted to be away from the cities and he wanted to be in them.
OO and I have to see the Northern Lights.
This is on my "bucket list" and one of the main reasons I want to go to Alaska. :)

I've traveled just enough to not care about traveling much anymore. I don't think people are particularly different from one place to another, and at "sightseeing" spots I often find that I've had a much better view (and less jostling from strangers) simply by looking at a picture. Couple that with a real loathing of the current idiotic practices in air terminals, I doubt I'll be going anywhere until I'm wealthy enough to purchase my own private plane and have bouncers remove the peasantry ahead of me when I care to go somewhere.
Of course part of all this is that I've been fortunate to live in some remarkably pleasant places that other people tend to only see on vacations. If I'd lived my whole life in...I dunno, Iowa or something, I suppose I'd be desperate to travel nearly anywhere and never, ever come back.

Haha do it! I think if it was me I'd go for a visit to the Singapore or Malaysian GP.
Other than that I've already been to Japan and Taiwan. Overseas is cool, but I'd really like to take my next vacation roaming around California's smaller cities with a big bag of weed. Also my aunt had some pictures of some mind bending rock formations in China I wouldn't mind seeing before I died.
They were like this yo

Why? Do you want some tea and scone?
Hammerhead - those Chinese rock formations always amaze me, mainly because they look almost exactly like Chinese pictures of mountains. I always used to think that the pictures were made up and imagined 'ideal' mountains created in the artist's head until I saw pictures of that mountain range.

The only Country I went to in my life is Austria, which isn't oversea for me but 12 boring hours of driving :/But it's always nice to get there because I've got family over there and the air up in the mountains is so fresh :)
I'd love to visit the southwest states one day :)(Arizona, Nevada, New mexico) And LA :)
This summer I'm going to Croatia with some friends which will be totally new to me because I've never been in Mediterranean Countries.
