When trying to install Bon Voyage, I get this error:
"Electronic Arts AutoRun has stopped working"
This is after the installation has reached 100% and has gone onto the gray "Please wait..." box.
I've tried trouble-shooting through the Game Help:Install guide; cleaning the disc, copying the files to the hard drive, etc. with no luck. I've also Googled the problem and tried the suggestions to shut down background programs and run as administrator, also with no result.
The EP appears to be installed in that it has it's own folder under the start menu, but none of the features appear in-game. I'm also unable to uninstall Bon Voyage from the start menu, despite the option being there. (I click it, it does nothing.)
Tried to replicate the problem by installing the EP on my laptop which only has Double Deluxe and Seasons installed. To my surprise, it installed and ran just fine. Both my laptop and desktop run Windows 7 64-bit. However, my desktop has all other EPs installed as well as a few SPs. I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do.
More info: Also bought Kitchen & Bath Stuff and HM Fashion Stuff yesterday (physical copies, used) and trying to install them resulted in the same error. This makes me afraid to try to uninstall and reinstall everything since it may be I'll be unable to reinstall anything at all.
I've since tried installing with no internet connection and with all start-up and service programs disabled. I even jumped through a bunch of hoops of out-dated links trying to remove Securom. Not sure if I even succeeded in that, but it was effort wasted since it didn't work.
Update: Uninstalled everything. Reinstalled Sims 2 Deluxe and it seemed to install alright. When I double-click the icon on my desktop it will load for a few seconds and then does nothing. Went into Program Files > EA Games > The Sims 2 Deluxe > EP2 > TSBin and tried to launch from Sims2EP2.exe and get this message:
"You are running the wrong version of Sims 2. Please run instead."
I assume I didn't uninstall everything properly. Used CCleaner to get rid of the registry entries so perhaps I'll have to check manually. Not holding out much hope, though. I apologize that this thread isn't really about the original topic anymore.
Update 2: I was correct about the registry entries. There were still a ton in there. Uninstalled deluxe and manually deleted everything that mentioned Sims 2 from the EA Games, Electronic Arts, and Origin Games folders. Reinstalled Deluxe and it ran fine. Reinstalled the rest of my physical copies in order. Then Seasons and Apartment Life from Origin. Then University Life collection and Fun with Pets from Origin. Thought I had met my Waterloo with Fun with Pets because it kept saying it hadn't installed correctly when I tried to launch it from Origin. Thankfully, it ran from SP9.exe because every time I uninstalled it, I would have to wait through the 5 hour download again.
Replaced the new Sims 2 folder with my old one and everything in my neighborhood seems normal. All I need to do is redo the Gunmod camera. Thank you to the people who wrote the FAQs. They helped me quite a bit!
