View Full Version : Can Sims become "addicted"? Share your stories!

So I was wondering...if you fill too many of a Sim's wants...like for a pleasure sim, to have a party, can that Sim become "addicted" to that want, so that s/he rerolls the want over and over?
I know there is probably nothing in the code for addictive behaviour, but so this is more about anecdotal evidence and stories.
What say you?
ETA: Just changed the title to reflect that I was hoping for stories of the things and ways your Sims have gotten addicted to whatever and how you played the stories out.
For me, I played a Sim, Abe, who worked at the firehall. He developed a sad gambling addiction (poker table) and needed to borrow money from the local crime syndicate. This eventually landed him in jail for perjury for lying in court to protect the son of the crime family - they told him, "Cover for our boy or we come get you!" Abe has never been able to recover from his time in the prison camps and is a wreck of his former self.
Your Sims got addicted stories/anecdotes?

I believe there is something in the coding which makes fulfilled wants roll up more often -- it's not addition as such, but more like learned behaviour. If a sim rolls equal numbers of 'throw party' and 'skip work' wants, and you fulfill the 'throw party' wants but not the 'skip work' ones, I believe the 'skip work' ones will appear less often, but the 'throw party' wants will increase.

Yes, wants are progressive. Once you fulfill one tiny request they start requesting more and more. Like they first want a kind, then three and then 20 kids. Insane.

Like when you lock a wish for them, say, Write A Novel, their related wishes crop up in that "area" of thinking, like Take A Class In The Writing Skill. So yes I think that it is possible.

If you let a Romance sim cheat on his wife, he WILL roll more cheating wants.

Also their hobbies. If you let them play the piano or play chess enough usually every morning when they wake up they have one of those mini wants to play chess or play the piano.

Usually when I play a Romance Sim, once they have made out with more than one sim, then usually want more and more. Same with woohooing >.<

I don't think it's exactly like that. Most romance sims roll wants to have multiple lovers. Just because they get married doesn't mean they'll stop rolling wants for more loves. To me they're not cheating..just acting like romance sims.

Knowledge sims will usually celebrate gaining a skill by wanting another of the same skill. This can be very useful, though I don't know whether a sim can be addicted to books.

Oh yes they can. They build up enough enthusiasm in Film & Literature and they want to read and write novels. Then they walk around reading. Kinda like I used to do when I was in high school...late 80s early 90s, I had my nose stuck in Sweet Valley High books.
(There's an idea...a Sweet Valley themed hood!)

Sim kids get addicted to painting. Once they get in the zone they can paint all day and not get hungry, tired or bored. Their paintings sell for $600-700 too. Their wants become art related and every spare moment they run to the easel. Might be the paint fumes but it becomes a little too easy to parent a child. I think I've only ever sold 3 lemonade cups. When you get OFB you think "how cute a lemonade stand" but no one frigging wants lemonade %$@#!!! and you have get a parent to give a grand performance to attract customers before they'll even entertain the thought of considering trying some lemonade.. "hmm.. nah, not today thanks". You watch the kid who has the utmost eagerness and staunch dedication to sit there for hours earnestly awaiting a solitary sugar laced fruit drink sale.. your heart can't stop breaking for the non-existent computer generated youngster. Painting though = gauranteed financial success and security you always desire in a child slave labor rackett.

One of the crazy townie creepers in my game (now married to Rick Contrary) grew completely addicted to cereal (and a recolor of cereal I have in my game, I think it's muesli or something) during her pregnancy. Seriously, she slept about three times a day - which meant rerolling her wants just as many times - and EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN TIME without fail she'd want to eat cereal. Or muesli.
(Mind you, she doesn't even have high hobby points for Culinary, nor is she a Pleasure sim - she's just a regular Family creeper who wants a gazillion babies.)
If I let her eat cereal, she'd roll a want to cook cereal. If she cooked cereal, she'd immediately roll a new want to eat it. And so in the loop of cereal-crazed infinity until she finally gave birth.
I wound up naming the kid Kelloggs.

My whole Pitts family (Ashley, his wife and twin children) have Sports as their chosen hobby. They're always wanting to play basketball or soccer. Bunch of sports fanatics in that house.
