I'm not sure If I'm posting in the right place or not. If I'm not please feel free to move the thread.

First off I want to say I'm not a noob about the Sims2. I'm usually pretty good about searching threads and the net for solutions to problems.
I recently installed my sims2 games on a new computer. The only differences in the install from my last computers is I installed Sims2 Deluxe instead of the Sims 2 ( lost original disc.) and I Installed BV from a back up disc I made (old disc was really scratched and wouldn't load). I have all expansion packs up to freetime and the stuff packs I have are FFS, Glamor, Teenstyle and Celebration.

System specs:
Windows 7
AMD Athlon(tm) IIX2 245 Processor 2.90 GHz
4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable) RAM
64-bit OS
ATI Radeon HD 4000 graphics card

My issues started with a vacation my sims took. I went to the hotel and the Chef kept throwing errors. I tried several things but finally had to "force error and delete" and then leave the lot. I took out my downloads folder and it did the same thing. So I decided to go on a search to find out the reason for it. Found nothing. In my search I ran across Maty's thread for installing clean and empty neighborhood templates and I've decided to do this because I'm thinking my backup of BV might have some corrupt files. I started following the tutorial and discovered that TheSims2Deluxe/Base/TSData/Res/NeighborhodTemplate didn't have any neighborhoods in it. It had one .png file which couldn't be opened by windows image viewer and that's all. In the EP2 folder under the Deluxe directory there is the DOO1 folder only.
My questions are:
1. Is there some difference between Deluxe and Sims 2 that would cause those neighborhoods not to be there? I found nothing about it in my searches.
2. Could this be the cause of the Chef errors?
3. Can I just put the Clean and Empty Templates into that folder? I have maxis backups from Maty's links for those hoods already, but I figured it would be easier to do an empty neighborhood and continuing the tutorial from Maty.
I did try to ask this at Maty but it's not letting me register for some reason. *more errors* :(

I don't know about the rest of it, but I have Deluxe. The files you want can be found in Base/TSData/Res/UserData/Neighborhoods.

Also, you should test each step of the installation carefully because going on to the next, because Deluxe won't let you do a partial uninstall. So it's less work to catch bad installs as they happen.

2. No, installing Deluxe is not likely to be the cause of the Chef errors. Many of us have Deluxe and we don't have problems. Your best bet is to follow the Game Problem FAQ. There's more there than just removing your Downloads folder. My suggestion is to delete your cache files next.

3) Yes, you can add clean and empty templates into the folder specified by Peni Griffin above.

As usual I skipped steps in my explanation so I wasn't very clear... (sorry my ADHD kicked in). :faceslap:
Several months ago when I noticed the problems with the Chef I came here and followed the Game Problem FAQ step by step and found no answers to why my Chef was throwing errors. I had to abandon it for awhile because I got really busy with work.
I'm finally able to look into the problem again since work's slowed down. I'd already done the Game Problem so I decided to try another route. I stumbled onto Maty's clean custom neighborhoods (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=e24471380c54bce6abdb79dec7b34f67&topic=5861.0) I thought that if I was generating new NPC's it might fix the problem. Or if installing a cleaned up, empty neighborhood would overwrite a corrupt file. I'm pretty certain it's a corrupt file from my BV backup, so before abandoning BV altogether I'm hoping I can find a fix.
I started reading through the tutorial to familiarizing myself with ALL the steps including going to my EA folder in my Program folders. While I was looking into my Deluxe folders neighborhood section I realized the Base Folder held all the information except the Base neighborhoods. The EP2 folder had it's neighborhood information, but Base does not.

So although I am having problems with the Chef; the problem I am hoping to address is why I do not have Neighborhoods in my C:/Program Files (x86)/EA GAMES/ The Sims 2 Deluxe/Base/TSData/Res/Neighborhood Templates when there should be NOO1, NOO2 and NOO3 in there.
Is it a glitch from BV or Deluxe? Or is it supposed to be that way? Would it hurt to put in back up copies I've downloaded from Maty?

Sorry if this seems so convoluted. Some days it's hard to get it from my brain into written word. It seems so straightforward when I'm thinking it, but after I write it down it isn't so much. :wtf:

You are looking in:
C:/Program Files (x86)/EA GAMES/The Sims 2 Deluxe/Base/TSData/Res/NeighborhoodTemplate

You need to look in:
C:/Program Files (x86)/EA GAMES/The Sims 2 Deluxe/Base/TSData/Res/UserData/Neighborhoods

The NeighborhoodTemplate folder is for subhoods only. Primary neighborhoods are in UserData\Neighborhoods, regardless of EP.

 Yup. Now I'm feeling stooopid. Thanks for clearing that up for me Mootilda. Apparently my brain is just jumping all over the place. Sorry I started a thread over this. I looked in the right folders this time, found the files, and will now proceed with my cleaned up hood templates. Thanks again for being so patient with me.
