View Full Version : Duplicate custom content files with different file names

I recently got a new computer and am going through the laborious process of sifting through my custom content. My problem is this: even after using Delphy's Organizer and deleting all the "duplicates," I still have duplicates of content because their FILE names are different. I have moved things around (from internal to external hard drives, different file locations) quite a bit while getting things situated, and I'm afraid I've been somehow duplicating the content by copying over parts of my Downloads folder too many times. I have been going through Clean Installer to see the images of the content, so I know there are still doubles. Basically,

1) Is there a way to get rid of all duplicates whose NAME might be the same, but whose FILENAME is different?

2) If I have two of the same content, and they each have drastically different file names, could I be deleting one that's slaved to something I still have and leaving one that's an orphan? How do I know which one to delete?

3) Dumb, but is Clean Installer really the easiest way to physically SEE my content outside of the game?

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else, but I couldn't seem to find anything that answered this specifically.

Thanks!!

The Clean Installer will display duplicate files in pink. If you sort the CC by MD5, you can see all files with identical content, regardless of file name, and then remove all but one copy. Usually, it makes sense to keep the file with the most descriptive name. File names are basically irrelevant; the CC is not accessed using the file name (which is why duplicate files can have different names).

Here's the manual, which you may find helpful:
