So, I'm running the sims 3 on the mac, and my problem is that you cant use the CAW program, it's only for windows :( And I no longer get to play sc4 or sims2
There was several things that I wanted to create, one of them was a neighborhood, more like a town, thats somewhat small, if not medium'ish size. I hate it when the game creates overly large towns when it's barely occupied. And it's hard to find a neighborhood that has blocks like this, specifically something you would expect in the country.
But one of the neighborhoods I want to create is a flat, small isolated town with a town square that looks exactly like this but with straighter roads surrounding the square. With the center park/square being around the 50x50 sized lot. And I would use commercial/community lots surrounding the square, and then have residential lots surrounding the community lots. This would create layers of different lots. The yellow lines could be the highways that leave the town.

It's just a thought, and I don't know if I'm allowed to request for users to create this neighborhood, so I'm just going to ask if theres a way to use the program on a mac?

You could always, download two operating systems on your computer and then switch between Windows and Mac OS, and download it on your Windows portion of the computer, if you know how to do that.

You should have Bootcamp on your computer. Try to get a copy of Windows (XP is probably super cheap at this point) and run CAW through there. You can also run CAW in Vmware, but it's much more stable in Bootcamp.

MTS member Sococo runs CAW on Parallels. (S)he discusses it here:

You could always contact that player by PM and ask about it, perhaps they can offer some advice!

I run mac to play the sims, and have a pc laptop that I do CAW with.
I'm going to partition my HD into 50/50 OS X/Windows 7, and will use CAW with that.
My mac is so much beefier than the pc, so I'm hoping that switching over to the mac will get rid of the lag issues I have while running CAW.
I'll post a quick tutorial, if I have some success.

Thanks! It's really helpful. Do you need the sims 3 installed for CAW to work? Or can the program work on it's own?

Well you need Sims 3 installed to run EIG, plus I think it checks if you have it installed when you install it, or maybe when you run the program, and will refuse to work unless you have it installed. So yes, you do need Sims 3 installed.

Alright, so I bought a copy of Windows this weekend, and used Bootcamp (a free program, that comes pre-installed on your Mac) to partition the HD into two operating systems.
I must say....
AMAZING.
I'm not a huge fan of Windows, but its very clear that this game runs much better on the Windows platform. Paired with the beastly hardware that came on my MacPro, this game runs flawlessly.
With that said, CAW runs perfectly (and it is SOOOO nice to not have to use my crappy PC laptop for CAW anymore!!!!)
I made the decision to go with Bootcamp over Fusion or Parallels for several reasons..
Well, two, really..
1) Security. Keeping OS X as isolated from Win7 as possible.
2) The ability to fully utilize my hardware. (Running a Virtual Machine is very taxing on your system... Add Sims to that equation, and you've got a brick for a computer)
The ONLY thing that may be a downside for you, is the fact that you will have to completely restart your machine to switch into the other operating system.. It may seem like a hassle to do this, but its actually quite simple (and again, the most secure way to run windows on your mac (if that is a concern to you)). All you have to do is hold down the "Alt/Option" key during system boot, and it will prompt you to select an OS to run.
I would highly suggest giving it a shot!
The hardware that comes on most Macs are phenomenal, so its almost certain that Windows will run amazingly well, and your games will as well!
If anyone needs help partitioning their mac into a Windows/Mac machine, I would be happy to write a tutorial, just let me know :)

simsample for the record i'm a she :giggler:
i actually bit the bullet and bought myself a pc just for sims *impulse buy alert*. see freddie in all his glory here (http://socosims.tumblr.com/post/22969611069/the-new-beast-it-was-so-heavy-and-a-total-bitch) <-- LOL @ my url.
while my specs were ok the graphics just weren't doing it. on either platform for some reason. mostly the close up sims/clothing textures as well as water/caw drawing distance were all issues for the integrated GeForce 8600 that came with the macbook. also it's a laptop which = small screen. i bought a 22" samsung to go with freddie. it's been glorious
i'd be really interested in how to go the bootcamp route as well. i tried to read the manual but it seemed like too much work at the time  also i don't have a purchased copy of windows and wasn't really into buying it but whatever.
any questions you have about running parallels let me know though! it's a quick and dirty way but it works wonders for creating cc!

Great thanks!! It's very helpful information,
So will the mac and the pc run on the same harddrive? or how does that work?
Could the pc be run on an external drive?
