View Full Version : Quick Question regarding sims3packs and packages

I'm finally starting to get my head round how CC magic works but there's one thing I'm a little confused about. I've downloaded a Sim from the exchange, primarily for testing how CC Magic works, and unpacked the Sim3pack to get the individual packages associated with it, of which there were a total of 25.

Using CC Magic I've sorted these packages out in to different types (hairstyles, clothing, accessories, patterns and makeup). However, CC Magic identifies one of the packages as "Unknown" which I figured out is the actual Sim itself. If I disable this package it also disables two of the hairstyles, one of the pieces of clothing and one of the accessories, (all of which don't appear to have their own actual package) along with the Sim.

So my question is how does this work? If I want one of those hairstyles in my game, but not the other one, is that possible? Or is it a case of the Sim, both hairstyles, the piece of clothing and the accessory all in the game, or none at all?

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Martin

PS I've also just realised it includes a different skin tone as well, which again doesn't have it's own pacakge associated with it.

I've just realised that the package file for this sim is a .package.off file and not just a .package file, I guess this has something to do with it but I can't find anything on this site or anywhere elese that explains what a .package.off file type is.

Generally when CC magic disables something (via the check box), it changes the file extension to "off".

Most likely the ones that get disabled is attached to the sim (yes stuff. can be that), hence they don't have there on packages and can't be gotten into game unless you also get the sim.
So it's like you said it's all or nothing.

OK, that's a bit of a pain, but thanks for both explanations.

Hi!

I am a new fan of the Sims 3 ever since January. Can anyone give me an idea of what a mod is? How do you install it into your game? I have seen a few mods and they look cool, however I would like to get more information before I mess anything up.

Thanks in advance,

E
