Whenever I click the work button which causes them to go to work immediantly or click work by scrolling to their workplace, the action cancels the second after and it says my sim is losing job performance as well.

Hopefully it is just an outdated mod. Back up your game. Then remove your CC. If that solves the problem you can go through the FAQ for finding bad CC and get rid of whatever was causing the problem. if it doesn't solve it, you might as well go through the rest of the Game Problem FAQ so we can figure out what is going on. http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Game_Problem

I'm having the same problem. The issue didn't start until after I had the two sims in the household grow up into adults, so I'm not quite sure that CC is the issue because they'd been going at there jobs for about 2 sim weeks with all of the CC installed and being used. I haven't installed any new content since they began their jobs either. I'll try going through the rest of the Game Problem FAQ though.
Others on Yahoo and other forums have been saying that using the original work clothes instead of secondary ones and replacing the place of work fix it but, those didn't end up working for me. I've yet to look at the official Sims3 forum though since it's been down for updates and whatnot.

UPDATE:
I went through the Game Problem FAQ and nothing worked. The Cache didn't change anything, and removing all of my CC didn't either. I cannot change the file name though for the User Data part as it keeps saying that the folder is opened elsewhere even when it's not.
I forgot to mention that I just have the basegame (acquired saturday), and it is updated with all of the patches correctly. One of my Sims, is (well was) in the Criminal career track and the other was working part-time at the book store. So with that critera, it obviously cannot be the ShowTime bugs that I keep reading about.
Any advice on what I should try next? I'd really rather attempt everything possible before having to uninstall and reinstall my game (a sure fix according to some).

My sim had a job in the movie career for 2 or 3 sim weeks, then she quit her job. Now it doesnt matter what job she gets, she will not go to work. The action to go to work just disappears. All the other sims in the household go to work just fine.

Here is how I fixed it: I used "edit in CAS" because I have NRass master conntroller. I chose a generic Career outfit from the base game because she was wearing a outfit from nightlife. There was some sort of conflict here because when I tried to use "plan outfit" after changing into the career outfit, the game would get stuck and I had to close the program with task manager. The nightlife career outfit was ok to change when I had a nightlife job, but when I changed careers to a basegame job then the problem started.

I have the same problem... My sim was in level 6 of the film career, and suddenly couldn't go to work. I checked on here for the solution, and went to the dresser to find that Career Outfit 2 that I had created was gone, as if I never made it. And for some reason, the default Outfit 1 just wasn't working on its own... like that's when the action cancelled -- when she tried to change into her work clothes. So I made a new outfit 2, she changed into it, and went to work...
But this was not the end. It now does this every few sim days. Out of nowhere, the action cancels, and I click on her and select "change outfit" and career 2 is not listed, so I select career 1 and she changes to some super random outfit and goes to work. Later (when she isn't about to be late to work) I have to have her go to her dresser and create a new outfit 2 or else every time she tries to go to work I have to tell her to change first. If outfit 2 is there, she will change and go to work normally, but when it vanishes, she doesn't.
It's really getting annoying because it just doesn't stay fixed. At least she has been able to keep going, though, and now is level 7.
As a side note, at first I thought she wasn't going to work because she's absent-minded lol

@SuperStellar- did it work with a fresh set of user files? If it does not then please make your own thread about this, so that this one is kept for the original poster. :)
@waynen- Thank you for posting your solution; in future please create your own thread if you have a problem. :)
@thatchick- please run through the game problem guide as Ghost sdoj linked above. If you cannot fix it, please start your own thread. :)
