View Full Version : Lag every 10 minutes on the 8

So every time I get to a time ending in 8 (which is every 10 minutes in game), I lag for a second or two.

I'm assuming some mod is processing things on the 8, so I'm wondering what and how to get rid of it.

I have all EP/SPs installed. My computer is pretty good. 3.2 GHz quad core processor, 6 MB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6870 GPU. Windows 7 64-bit.

So I'm assuming it has to be an extremely processor heavy mod or something.

I have NRaas:

Master Controller - base, cheats, integreation, progression
Decensor
Selector
Story Progression - base, expanded, extra
Error Trap
NoCD
Overwatch
Woohooer

The rest are just clothes, items and minor tuning mods.

Anyone know what it could be? I've turned off stories and map tags for all but family and friends, and I've turned off memories

First, test to see if it is indeed caused by a mod by going through the game problem faq: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Game_Problem

If it is CC, this faq will help you figure out which piece is causing it: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Finding_Problem_Custom_Content

Thanks. It is definitely Story Progression. Every 10 in game minutes it causes a 1-3 second stutter. It's always 10 minutes from whatever time I load the game, and then every 10 minutes from then on. Hopefully it's an option that I can turn off without problem, otherwise I'll just uninstall it and wait for awesomemod to catch up. I wish awesomemod would release a story driver stand-alone that wasn't so invasive.

A regular stutter like that smacks of a Sim having routing problems somewhere to me - i.e. the game's constantly grinding away to unstick them from wherever they are and failing.

An easy way to check for that would be to run ResetSim globally, either with the console or Reset Everything in Master Controller, and see if that helps. (If you have SP installed, you could turn on all the map tags, look for any suspiciously out-of-the-way Sim and just reset them.)

Sims 3 - Freezes and Lags
If you encounter any freezes or lags in gameplay, try the suggestions in Game Help:Intermittent Freezes.
If issue persists, please also answer the questionnaire in the Intermittent Freeze Sticky (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=425027)

StoryProgression is an intensive mod, especially with the extra modules. Do you play with SP tweaked settings or default as is? Tried turning things off? Lowering population cap, etc...

And I agree with Sgloomi - sounds like a stuck Sim.
All the stuff we know to help alleviate or find the root cause to freezes is in that Wiki article. Have you tried them? No dice?

You didn't state what world this is occurring in. Is it also happening immediately in vanilla settings in Sunset Valley with a default EA-made Household?
And even with my .world fixes?

Starlight Shores, no world fix that i saw. I'm discussing it with Twallan on his site now, so hopefully he can point me to the settings to change. It doesn't seem to be routing. Might be too many sims.

Sorry, I'm quoting myself. Same question I asked the poster here.
Are you able to locate any stuck Sims, or Sims swarming in any particular area? If you can tell me where they are (screencap it), I can double-check that this is already fixed in my SS WIP world I'm still working on. The NY world creator(s) did a guide on how-to here (http://sims3newyork.blogspot.sg/2011/09/twallan-comes-through-yet-again.html).

If you want to zip up that Save folder and upload it somewhere, I can also try and take a look if I can replicate the freezes and lags.

Thanks for the help. I decided to just uninstall SP and use awesomemod story. I don't think it was a stuck sim because I used 'resetsim *' and even used the MC option to reset everything, and it persisted.

No more lags with AwesomeStory? Curious.
