New Shiney...

I just noticed that the top line of the page --the one with the drop-down menus-- no longer scrolls with the rest of the page. I LIKE!!!! --but I had a little trouble finding the My Links menu in its new location when I first arrived today. Knowing *why* it was moved, however, I have no objections to its new location. Thanks, Delphy! [Now where is that Site Issues "Thanks" button..?]

Sims3Addicted 9th Sep 2009 08:24 PM

I thought I was going mad when "user tools" wasn't in it's usual place. It's only now, reading this, GOD, I see I'm not insane .... yet

lewjen 9th Sep 2009 08:28 PM

I have to say, I like it too

GeneralOperationsDirector 9th Sep 2009 08:58 PM

Glad I could help put your mind at rest, S3A!

leesester 9th Sep 2009 09:07 PM

And did you notice how you can thank a download and add to favourites with NO SCROLLING? Right there in the bottom left.

GeneralOperationsDirector 9th Sep 2009 09:18 PM

No, I did not; heading out to check....

Edit: Yup, that`s right!

HugeLunatic 9th Sep 2009 10:08 PM

I saw both earlier...and I must say I love it! I've actually wanted to request to have exactly that so many times, but Delphy is already busy.

Love having the static links at the top.

fanseelamb 9th Sep 2009 11:14 PM

You can also edit your own downloads using the button in the bottom right corner, no matter what tab you're on. No more scrolling or searching for the edit button. It's all very nifty!

GeneralOperationsDirector 9th Oct 2009 06:16 PM

More new shiney! Has anyone else noticed what Delphy`s done to the "Offline for maintainence" page? It now shows status updates from twitter! YAY! ...and if you refresh the page, it takes you back into the site when the site comes back up! YAY!

Unfortunately, Delphy, while the page appears to TRY to take one to the page one was attempting to access while the site was down, it doesn`t actually do so, taking me to the site`s main page instead. Even so, it is FAR, FAR BETTER than it was the previous time I`d seen it!

Delphy 9th Oct 2009 07:04 PM

Err, the whole "redirect downtime.html to the front page" has been there for years. Literally.

GeneralOperationsDirector 9th Oct 2009 07:24 PM

Odd, it has literaly NEVER worked that way for me until AFTER you added the twitter updates. It`s always just stayed at the downtime page until I manually navigated away from it. Of course, it is always possible that I`ve been doing something odd that interferes with the programmed behavior....

Even so, first the link to the twitter feed, then placing the twitter updates directly ON the downtime page are a MAJOR improvement over the way it was.

Is there any chance that the downtime page could be rewritten to remember the page that we tried to access, and redirect us there instead of the front page when the site comes back up [including any form data that we`ve entered]? The last time the site went down while I was trying to use it, it looked like it *tried* to do that but took me to the front page instead.

Why do I say that it "tried"? Well, the downtime page URL had a question mark and some stuff relavent to what I had been trying to do when I got the downtime page instead, and it had never had *that* here [on my end] before, either. ::puzzled::

Over all, I like most of the New Shiney you`ve been doing lately. .

More New Shiney...

I see that Delphy`s tweaked the Title system to replace a person`s title with "Original Poster" in threads that have been started by that pereson. Clever, Delphy!

Delphy 17th Oct 2009 01:10 AM

Actually, it doesn't replace it, it just adds to it.

GeneralOperationsDirector 19th Oct 2009 07:53 PM

Ja, I noticed that after posting.

More New Shiney...

I see you have, in many places in the non-rounded blue style I`m using, replaced black-on-blue with white-on-blue. That works for me, but I note that in the process you`ve made the download thread Tabs only underline when the mouse is hovering over the link, except that the Downloading Instructions tab doesn`t underline at all. That last wasn`t intended, was it?

Unfortunately, I dislike the newest changes to the New Posts page. It spaces stuff out way too much verticaly for my tastes.

Ghost sdoj 25th Oct 2009 01:36 PM

I admit to noticing this because it was my suggestion, but THANK YOU for the scroll arrows in the news ticker!!!!

I don't mind the changes in the New Posts page as much as the General does. The older way looked a bit more crowded on the page. (Then again I use a smaller screen a lot of the time. On my husband's computer the new style does make it stretched out more.)

Delphy 25th Oct 2009 02:15 PM

Yeah the New Posts does look better on lower resolutions. When you consider that nearly 60% of people view the site with a horizontal resolution of 1280 or less, (which adds up to about 350,000 people over a month) then obviously optimising the site for lower resolutions takes precedence over those on higher ones.

GeneralOperationsDirector 26th Oct 2009 07:38 PM

Didn`t say I couldn`t live with it. Said I didn`t *like* it.

Meahwhile, the Install Instructions tab`s link still doesn`t underline when hovering.

lewjen 26th Oct 2009 07:40 PM

GO Director - Install instructions tab does underline when hovering over.

GeneralOperationsDirector 26th Oct 2009 08:41 PM

Not when I tested it just prior to posting that, it didn`t. ...heading out to test it again...

Edit: Nope; it still doesn`t.

AnimalMad 26th Oct 2009 08:48 PM

Doesn't for me either

GeneralOperationsDirector 26th Oct 2009 09:02 PM

Augh, I *hate* it when that happens! The Internet ate my reply!

AnimalMad, do you get just the ONE link failing to underline when hovering, with the other four tabs [and most-if-not-all other blue-on-white links] working correctly? That`s what I get.

AnimalMad 26th Oct 2009 09:05 PM

Yup, the others all underline

Delphy 27th Oct 2009 04:24 PM

It's probably an IE thing. Works fine in Firefox.

That'll probably be why it works for me then.
