Don't Wash Dishes Where You Angry Poop

Update - There is now a Default Enabled version available for download. If you switch from one version to the other remember to remove the old mod's script (the package files are identical between versions).

Description

This mod allows you to set individual sinks on any lot to enable or disable dish washing at that sink. Since it uses a script to setup the object states for the sinks, it should be compatible with any sinks in the game (even from expansion packs I don't have).

After installation, the default for sinks on all lots will be to NOT allow dishes to be washed at that sink (UPDATE: there is now a Default Enabled version for download). Simply click on any sink and choose Enable Dish Washing to allow Sims to wash dishes at that sink. The setting is saved along with the save game as it uses a standard object state to remember the setting.

I chose this approach for this mod as I often use what would typically be considered a "kitchen" sink on cabinets in a bathroom, and sometimes vice-versa. Instead, the player is allowed to select what sinks should be used. Again, the default is to not allow dish washing. If no sinks are enabled on a lot, Sims will instead simply throw away the dishes in the trash.

Note for users of SCAM Autonomy must be on for the dish washing interactions on the sink in order for this to work. If you wish to turn off autonomy for dish washing, turn off the clean autonomy on the dishes themselves. Turning off dish washing autonomy on the sink will make Sims unable to find an appropriate sink that you have enabled for dish washing.

Removing the mod will return sink behaviour to normal and allow Sims to wash dishes at any sink.

Installation Instructions and Compatibility

To install, unzip the two files contained in the download file into your game's mod folder. It can be placed in a sub-folder if desired. It uses a script, so the mod cannot be installed more than one sub-folder deep.

This mod was written and tested on Windows for The Sims 4 version 1.36.102.1020 (Nov 9, 2017). It should be compatible with any stuff or game packs and most other mods.

The package for this mod overrides the autonomous dish washing interactions for sinks. Any other mod which alters these resources will conflict with this mod:
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_00000000000037A0 (sink_washDishes)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_00000000000037A2 (sink_washSingleDish)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_000000000001870D (sink_washDish_After_Eat_Counter)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000012485 (sink_washDish_After_Eat)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000018708 (sink_washDishes_Counter)

The game's object tunings are overriden in the script, which allows it to be compatible with other mods that override those objects. In addition, it will automatically adapt to new game packs that add additional sinks without requiring further additions to the package. All sinks which are found to contain the sink_washSingleDish are patched with the required object states to enable or disable sink washing and remember your settings.

The script uses features of the game that have been stable for years and are not likely to break in future patches.

This mod uses the ts4script file format for the script portion of the mod and cannot be installed automatically with a mod manager (until a mod manager is updated to support these files). To install the mod manually, extract both the package and ts4script files from the download into your mods folder.

Script mods must be enabled in your game options for this mod to work properly.

Nobody's bought me a Mac yet, so until I hear from someone who tries it out, I can only assume it will work on a Mac. I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work.

Additional Credits

Basic Download and Install Instructions:
1. Download: Click the File tab to see the download link. Click the link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.
Read the upload description for installation instructions. If nothing else is specified, do the following:
No Extraction Required (Script Mods):
1. Cut and paste the .zip file(s) into your Mods folder
  • Windows XP: Documents and Settings\(Current User Account)\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\

Need more information?
  • Anyone can use both .rar and .zip files easily! On Windows, use WinRAR.
  • If you don't have a Mods folder, just make one.
  • Mod still not working? Make sure you have script mods enabled

You are my hero! Thank you for this mod, it is really annoying to see the sims running to the bathroom to do this!

I've always found it strange how Sims scurry on into the bathroom with a hand full of dishes.
"Where are you going with those?"
"Uh, to the bathroom, duh."
"But the kitchen sink is RIGHT next to you."
"Yeah, well, I'm going to the sink on the other side of the house."
"Okey then..."
Lol, so thanks. It was a very strange thing indeed.

This is a good idea. I'll try to remember to look into this once I'm done with updating at least a good handful of my outdated mods, I don't think the process involved will be substantially different so it may be a real breeze to implement (crossed fingers).

Thank you, this got old and ridiculous a long time ago. Maybe I've been unlucky but it was at the point where every single household seemed like they were going out of their way to do dishes where it didn't make sense, regardless of distance or sink quality. Finally, the kitchen sinks are useful for something!

scumbumbo, it seems that the 'enable dish washing' setting is inverted whenever I load a new lot with this mod and choose the setting, but when I load the same lot again, the settings work as intended. So when I first play a lot, I have to invert the settings, but the next time I load the lot, I have to change them. lol

I'm not seeing this issue. I tried a couple of lots I'd never played with both the default enabled and disabled versions. Even tried a completely new game. Maybe make sure you don't accidentally have both versions of the script installed? And remember, if the menu says "Enable Dish Washing" that means it is currently disabled and you need to select that menu item to take the action of enabling it.

This will happen if no sinks are accessible that are enabled. You need to choose at least one sink and use the "Enable Dishwashing" pie-menu option to enable dishwashing at that sink.

I know, it's not rocket science I don't know what the heck is happening if it's just my game, but I'm telling you something is inverting the settings for me when I do it the first time for a lot. I could take a picture of it next time if it happens again; the sink that the sim is using to wash dishes, if I click on it it would say 'enable dish washing' while she is still using it. Funky, I know. Then the next time I load, the sim would go to the other sink which had the opposite setting, and then I have to switch them.
It's not really a big deal, since it still works, I just have to check the settings the first and second time I load the lot. I think it sticks after that. I just find it hilarious that my game does that to me, like wtf game?

Update: It seems the issues has corrected itself! I did a test save where I encountered the issue last time, and I deleted that save. I thought maybe it had something to do with the prebuilt lots, but this time when I made a new save and moved in a new sim into a prebuilt lot, the settings are as they should be. Funky! None of the lots I tested in my play save had the issue either this time. It's confusing, but hey, maybe it just was a temporary glitch. We just love those, eh.

Glad the issue resolved for you! I couldn't reproduce the problem any way I tried to, so there wasn't much chance of me figuring out how to fix it. Those kind of intermittent bugs sometimes make me hate it when one of my mods works perfectly for me, lol
