Companion Mod If you like this mod, you will probably also want to get the Don't Prep Food Where You Angry Poop mod.

Update - There is now a Default Enabled version available for download. If you switch from one version to the other remember to remove the old mod's script (the package files are identical between versions).

Description

This mod allows you to set individual sinks on any lot to enable or disable dish washing at that sink. Since it uses a script to setup the object states for the sinks, it should be compatible with any sinks in the game (even from expansion packs I don't have).

After installation, the default for sinks on all lots will be to NOT allow dishes to be washed at that sink (UPDATE: there is now a Default Enabled version for download). Simply click on any sink and choose Enable Dish Washing to allow Sims to wash dishes at that sink. The setting is saved along with the save game as it uses a standard object state to remember the setting.

I chose this approach for this mod as I often use what would typically be considered a "kitchen" sink on cabinets in a bathroom, and sometimes vice-versa. Instead, the player is allowed to select what sinks should be used. Again, the default is to not allow dish washing. If no sinks are enabled on a lot, Sims will instead simply throw away the dishes in the trash.

Note for users of SCAM Autonomy must be on for the dish washing interactions on the sink in order for this to work. If you wish to turn off autonomy for dish washing, turn off the clean autonomy on the dishes themselves. Turning off dish washing autonomy on the sink will make Sims unable to find an appropriate sink that you have enabled for dish washing.

Removing the mod will return sink behaviour to normal and allow Sims to wash dishes at any sink.

Installation Instructions and Compatibility

To install, unzip the two files contained in the download file into your game's mod folder. It can be placed in a sub-folder if desired. It uses a script, so the mod cannot be installed more than one sub-folder deep.

This mod was written and tested on Windows for The Sims 4 version 1.36.102.1020 (Nov 9, 2017). It should be compatible with any stuff or game packs and most other mods.

The package for this mod overrides the autonomous dish washing interactions for sinks. Any other mod which alters these resources will conflict with this mod:
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_00000000000037A0 (sink_washDishes)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_00000000000037A2 (sink_washSingleDish)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_000000000001870D (sink_washDish_After_Eat_Counter)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000012485 (sink_washDish_After_Eat)
  • S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000018708 (sink_washDishes_Counter)

The game's object tunings are overriden in the script, which allows it to be compatible with other mods that override those objects. In addition, it will automatically adapt to new game packs that add additional sinks without requiring further additions to the package. All sinks which are found to contain the sink_washSingleDish are patched with the required object states to enable or disable sink washing and remember your settings.

The script uses features of the game that have been stable for years and are not likely to break in future patches.

This mod uses the ts4script file format for the script portion of the mod and cannot be installed automatically with a mod manager (until a mod manager is updated to support these files). To install the mod manually, extract both the package and ts4script files from the download into your mods folder.

Script mods must be enabled in your game options for this mod to work properly.

Nobody's bought me a Mac yet, so until I hear from someone who tries it out, I can only assume it will work on a Mac. I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Basic Download and Install Instructions:
1. Download: Click the File tab to see the download link. Click the link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.
Read the upload description for installation instructions. If nothing else is specified, do the following:
No Extraction Required (Script Mods):
1. Cut and paste the .zip file(s) into your Mods folder
  • Windows XP: Documents and Settings\(Current User Account)\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\
  • Windows Vista/7/8/8.1: Users\(Current User Account)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\
Script mods need to be placed directly in \Mods or one level below that (e.g. \Mods\Scripts) – sub-folders nested any deeper won’t work.
Extraction Required (Everything Else):
1. Use WinRAR (Windows) to extract the .package file(s) from the .rar or .zip file(s).
2. Cut and paste the .package file(s) into your Mods folder
  • Windows XP: Documents and Settings\(Current User Account)\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\
  • Windows Vista/7/8/8.1: Users\(Current User Account)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\

Need more information?
  • Anyone can use both .rar and .zip files easily! On Windows, use WinRAR.
  • If you don't have a Mods folder, just make one.
  • Mod still not working? Make sure you have script mods enabled

Sorry @scumbumbo I had a brain fart! My issue wasn't due to your mods at all (I don't think- I'll do further testing). It turns out I have some weird combination of route failures due to using the Maxis large round tables, (Option to load the dishwashers is greyed out when sitting at these tables!) and having 1. A shelf too low above the counter/dishwasher, 2. A cabinet too low above the dishwasher (Modern Wooden Under-Mount Cabinet to be exact). I will do further testing but that's all I got for now... Sorry again!

22 I will give him the key to the house of David. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them.

Thanks for the update, good to know it's not an issue with the mod!

Have you tried taking the homework from their inventory and placing it on the desired tables manually before telling them to start their homework? I know it's an annoying extra step and mod that set a particular location would be easier, but this approach does usually work for me.

This doesn't seem to be working for me. I install it in the game (unzip, place files in my Mods folder) and then I go into game and click on a sink and I just get the usual options. No Enable/Disable dishwashing. I turned on cheats as well, shift clicked and it doesn't seem to work. I have the latest version of the game, no other script mods just some hair and clothes and furniture pieces. I do notice that when I start up my game and the little window pops up telling me what mods i have installed tells me that this mod is under 'Custom Content' as opposed to 'Script Mods' where I would assume it belongs.

From your description it sounds like the script portion of the mod is not activating. The main two reasons this could occur would be either the "Script Mods Allowed" option is not checked in the game's options, or the script file was installed into too deep a subfolder. Script mods can only be installed a maximum of one subfolder deep from the mods folder.

Asking for a French translation
Very useful mod, can you translate it in French ? The more suitable traduction is "Mode vaisselle ON" and "Mode vaisselle OFF". I tried to do it myself with Package Editor and a YT tutorial but it didn't work and I can't understand why. Thank you in advance.

Hi! I'm sorry, my question might seem stupid for you guys, but I'm not totally familiar with Mods. But I just want to confirm: Do I have to download the 2 files (the regular + the DefaultEnabled) ?
Cause so far it doesn't work in my game. I've downloaded the 2 files and put them directly in my Mods folder without any subfolders at all, plus I checked the ''Script Mods Allowed'' option, restarted the game and still not working. Same as 'whxskers', in the pop up, they appear in the ''Custom Content'' part instead of the ''Script Mods'' one. And in the game all the sinks are blocked, so my sims can't use any of them to wash the dishes, but I don't have the ''Enable Dish Washing'' option, just the usual options. Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Only download one of the two files. The one you choose determines whether sinks are available or not by default. If you use the regular version, then sinks are disabled for washing dishes by default and must be enabled to be used. If you use the default enabled version, then new sinks are enabled and the ones you don't want to be available for dish washing must be disabled.

Inside the zip file you download are two files, a package and a script. Both of these files need to be placed in your Mods folder, or a maximum of one subfolder deep. So if you are using the regular version of the mod, the two files
  • MTS_Scumbumbo_DontWashDishesWhereYouAngryPoop.package
  • and MTS_Scumbumbo_DontWashDishesWhereYouAngryPoop_SCRIPT.ts4script
should be in your Mods folder (if you use the default enabled version, the name of the script file will differ).

I love this mod and it's been working perfectly so far, but yesterday when I hired a maid to take care of the children she kept washing dishes in the bathroom (the sink there was disabled). Does this not work on employees?

edit: I found it it was conflicting with LittleMsSam no auto set the table and wash dishes, obviously. SOrry for the bother!

To the best of my knowledge this mod should not be causing an exception for you. When looking at the exception text it will often identify a mod that "injects" code into the same method as another, so it can mistakenly say the fault is in mod "X" when it's actually in a mod "Y" that loaded after (or before, I can never remember for sure) it.

Frequently the only way to be sure of which mod is causing the exception is to perform a 50/50 mod check. If you want to upload a copy of the lastException file here (don't just copy/paste it in, zip the file up and upload it as an attachment to your reply) I'd be happy to take a look to see if there's anything that indicates what the problem could be.

Thanks a lot, it works great, and it saves a lot of my nerves :0))).

To make this set of mods complete, I wonder if it is possible to prohibit sims eating everywhere as well. As of now my sims get leftovers from the fridge, ignore dining table with all dining chairs, walk slowly across the whole lot to sit on a little stool, which I placed by the washtub purely for decoration.
