Maxis Recolour
This is a Maxis Recolour which means that it is a recolour of an item that already exists in your game. Please check the Expansion pack requirements to see which game pack it recolours.
This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS2 - check the sidebar.
This is a new mesh recolour, and means that you will need to download the particular mesh itself in order for this to show up in your game. See the Meshes Needed section or read the text for more information.
This is a featured upload! It showcases the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.

I hope you're feeling patient, because there are a lot of files here, and it's taken me all week just to set this post up.
I also hope that you're sick to death of EAxis hairs and would like some default replacement hair files! Wooo!
These are set up as single-hair replacement packages, which should allow you to avoid conflicts with hair-hiding hacks, or possibly allow you to mix and match default hair replacements from different creators.
Before making these, I went around to a couple different computers and picked out the colors that were the most consistent, and the most believable with a variety of different skintones. Not every hair color looks good with every skintone, but that's the way life is so I'm really not worried about it.
Beyond that, I focused more on capturing the feel of a head of hair over making sure you can see every last strand. It's the way I like it, and if you also like it, that's great. If you don't, well, I'm not going to make things I don't want for myself.
Extra-huge thanks and smooches to Nouk, Seomi, Louis, Numenor, and the SimPE team. I could not have done this without you and your contributions to the Sims community.

Terms of use:
No EA exchange, no TSR, no Pandora Sims, no paysites, and no use of these files or any derivative works for any profit-making activities whatsoever. Anything you make from something I made for The Sims has to be 100% free, period.
You may export these hairs for non-default versions of the hairs, and redistribute them on permitted free sites with a credit. (Although I would greatly appreciate it if you checked to see if I made a non-default version of the hair first).
You may recolor and/or alpha-edit my textures and use them on any mesh of your choosing, and redistribute them on permitted free sites with a credit.
You may use these files as the base for your own default replacement packages. See above for the ToU for reuse of my textures.
You may use these files for screenshots and storytelling on any site, regardless of content.
You may share these files on Neighborhood 99 or any other free file-sharing forums.
ETA: UPDATES! So I got a new monitor, and it messed up my hairs, specifically the browns and blacks that I made in the few months before I replaced my monitor. I tried fiddling with my settings to make everything look the way it used to look to me, but the last few recolors just wouldn't cooperate, which means I'm slowly going through and fixing everything (in roughly the order in which they annoy me). Also, since I only make content I want for myself, I am no longer supporting the out-of-date files. When they're gone, they're gone.

The brown and black stubble colors were acceptable (I guess), so I only made recolors for the red, blond and grey colors.
The eyebrows were released before, but I've included them here for convenience's sake. The colors are on the dark side, since eyebrows that are darker than hair look less odd than eyebrows that are lighter than hair.

ETA 6/2/08: Removed older package and uploaded screenshots of revised package. Changes are due to a monitor replacement on my part (it was seriously ancient).

Original texture by Seomi. This is the texture from her "Princess Blond" hair; the mesh she used for the princess hair uses the basegame fuzzylong hair for children and teens, so I'm pretty sure this is OK by her ToU.

This is the hair that made me decide that a default replacement package was in order. It was so interesting, but the development team still managed to make it look like it had been drawn with crayons.

This package covers the male "closecropped" and toddler "kinkypuff" hairs, since they use the same textures. I have no idea why they did it that way. Bump map is set to neutral due to the fade I added to the alpha.
ETA 6/2/08: Replaced default replacement package.

ETA: Rainbow hair fixed. It's now blond with leopard-dyed stubble. Also I fixed an image format inconsistency issue that may or may not be causing a problem for some users.

The Natural Redhead Project is an open-ended recolor project sparked by the near-complete absence of believable red hair colors in the sims community. Since the start of the project, we have since expanded our focus to include believable blonds, other natural colors, and even fantasy and punk colors.
To date, ten creators have released 60 different posts, with hundreds of individual files in those posts. There is a huge selection of hair, along with skintones, facial hair, and freckling clothes, genetics and makeup.
If you would like to make hair recolors that work with these defaults, I have uploaded a set of Photoshop color swatches. They were made in 7.0, but I think swatches work in any version of Photoshop. Feel free to use these for any project for any reason.
XPLT297 has also made some default hair replacement packages for the game. The colors he chose are radically different from mine, but there's nothing like choice, right? You can find them in his "alpha disturbed" subforum over at InSimenator.
...And that's it! I hope you enjoy this first installment of NRP's default hair replacements, and may your holidays be stress-free and full of good times. :D

zomg AMAZING!! *drools* You've done a fantastic job... and your textures are -gorgeous-! I never have bothered with default replacement hairs before but... these are going in my game. Thank you!

Ah, Alkaloid, I already love the Redhead Project, and these are definitely going in my game as I abhor the Maxis' hairs (their version of blond and red kill me). I can't wait to see more!

Well, speaking as someone whose hair is naturally black, I don't know about others, but my hair looks more like a really dark brown instead of the "raven black" that you see in the hair dye aisle in stores. :D
Something is not right with the bumpmap for the male dreadlocks.
I think changing the format from DXT5 to Raw8bit should fix it.
