Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.

Moo's Mews are a set of tiny modern community lots where your sims can meet, eat, shop, and have a lot of fun. Because the lots are small, they will attract a small number of neighbors and townies. For your convenience, all lots have bathrooms.

Descriptions and pictures of the individual lots are in the first few comments posts in this thread.

Connecting walls:
Connecting walls allow the lots to be placed side-by-side seamlessly in your neighborhood, to create a small downtown area or strip mall. Lots can also be placed back-to-back or even back-to-side for corner roads. They will also work as stand-alone buildings.

Excess connecting walls can easily be removed, using the standard method for removing walls. Just use the <ctrl> key plus the wall tool to delete the walls that you don't want. Be sure to delete the upper wall before deleting the lower one.

Excess floor tiles:
To allow you to delete the connecting walls on the upper floor, several floor tiles have been strategically placed on the upper floor at the edges of the lot. These can all be deleted once the lot has been placed in your neighborhood and unwanted connecting walls have been removed. Just use the standard method for removing floor tiles. You will need to use the "moveobjects on" cheat to remove these tiles, then use the <ctrl> key plus any floor tile to delete the floor tile at the edge of the lot.

In general, the process for removing a connecting wall is: remove the upper wall, remove the excess floor tile, remove the lower wall. You will probably also want to remove the excess floor tiles for connecting walls that you wish to keep, although there is no harm in keeping either the excess walls or excess floors. Be sure to turn "moveobjects off" when you are done.

Weather-proofing:
Most of these lots have raised ceilings, which means that they may not be weather-proof if you have Seasons. However, it's very simple to close a building against the weather; just add some flooring above the main level.

Viewing angle:
Lots were designed to be played from the front; it should be possible to change the viewing angle with a small rearrangement of furnishings.

Sidewalks:
All pictures show extended sidewalks at the front of the lot. However, moving or placing the lot in a neighborhood may remove the sidewalk closest to the road. To add the sidewalk back in that spot, use the "moveobjects on" cheat to make that area accessible, then add concrete floor tiles as usual. Be sure to turn "moveobjects off" when you are done.

Adding, removing, and changing walls:
Internal walls can be changed as you desire. However, the outside walls, which are one tile in from the edge of the lot, were placed using the shrinking feature of the LotAdjuster. While these walls can be deleted without any problem, you will not be able to add them back without expanding and reshrinking the lot. It is not recommended that you remove the outer walls of the building.

Play-testing:
These lots were play-tested both in the base-game, and with all EPs and SPs except the Store edition. Note that bar drinks cannot be made in later EPs.

Two problems have been found with two specific EPs:

1) If Nightlife is your last EP and you have no SPs, then there is a problem when driving a car to one of these lots. This is a problem with all 1-wide community lots and is not specific to Moo's Mews. For now, have your sims use a taxi when traveling to these lots. For more information, or to follow our progress on finding a solution, see:
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3026167

2) If Mansions & Gardens is your last EP / SP, then there is a problem with the alignment of wall coverings on walls with non-standard heights. All that this means is that the lots will not appear as pictured in this thread. There is no known solution at this time. If you don't like the new look, feel free to change the wall coverings used. For more information, see:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract: Use WinRAR (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac) to extract the .sims2pack file(s) from the .rar or .zip file(s).

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).
  • You may want to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer instead of the game's installer, which will let you install sims and pets which may otherwise give errors about needing expansion packs. It also lets you choose what included content to install. Do NOT use Clean Installer to get around this error with lots and houses as that can cause your game to crash when attempting to use that lot. Get S2PCI here: Clean Installer Official Site.

Default MiniMart
"Your one-stop shopping experience."

If it can be purchased in the base-game, then you'll find it here: groceries, clothing, magazines, and games.

Default How did you make the gym roof?
I've included snapshots of the TS2GridAdjuster parameters used to create the gym lot. Unfortunately, when a roof is curved, the walls will sometimes "cut through" the roof, destroying the smoothness of the curve. This can be solved by adding a second roof level and floating it just slightly above the original roof level.

To create the roof, I entered all of the parameters in clicks (screenshot #1). Since I wanted to use more precision for the "Add per level" value, I then unchecked the "Clicks" checkbox, which converted everything to floating point values, and entered the precise floating point value to make the upper roof float slightly above the curved walls (screenshot #2). Then I clicked "Finish" to complete the adjustment.

Default How did you make the pool roof?
To create the unique pool roof, I started at the front of the lot and placed a curve from left to right. One row back from the front, I placed the same curve shifted over one tile. Two rows back from the front, I placed the same curve shifted over two tiles. And so on. Finally, I added a slope to the entire roof, to make the back higher than the front. The final step must be "Relative to current elevation", so that it does not overwrite the curves that we've already generated.

I've included screenshots of the beginning and ending runs through the TS2GridAdjuster; you can extrapolate the missing screenshots. Note that this roof uses the same "floating roof" trick as the gym.

Nice lots! Did you also tested if these work when the sims visit with their own car? Because when I tried an 1x1 community lot some time ago my sims car drove too far and they couldn't reach it anymore when I wanted them to leave... It worked fine with taxis, though.

No, I forgot to check with owned cars. I'll try that and see whether I can reproduce your problem. I *did* check the portal locations on the lot and they looked correct, but they may need some tweaking. Thanks for letting me know.

Which 1x1 community lot did you have problems with? I know of two sets and I can probably help the creator fix them.

andy8104 and MaryLou made the original set:
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=195467

then I helped aelflaed to rotate them so that the sun appears at the front of the lot:
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=251800

Either way, it would be nice to have all of the lots working perfectly.

I'm pretty sure it was a MaryLou lot back then (I shrink by myself novadays).

EDIT: I checked the pizza diner and it does have this problem indeed.

I just tested all of the lots using all EPs up through Mansions and Gardens and had no problems. Which EPs are you using? I see that you have custom roads; have you tried without CC? Have you tried using Inge Jones' Portal Revealer to see where the vehicle portals are?

My game is Uni + NL. I have tested in a game with no CC (apart Inges portal revealer) with the same result. The portals are where they should be I guess. Like I said, taxis work ok in my game. They drive one or two tiles less far than owned cars so sims can exit normally (instead of just "jumping" out of the car), and when leaving the taxi appears where the car on your pic is.

I found that there's a workaround: If one has the buy/build mode enalber one can move the car with "moveobjects on" and the sim can leave with it.

OK, let me test with Uni and NL (no CC except the Portal Revealer) and see what happens.

What is the terrain like near your lot? Is it basically flat, or hilly up or down?

Do you have other Moo's Mews lots next to the Pizza, or is it standing alone?
Top Secret Researcher
#20 Old 21st Jan 2010 at 8:11 PM
ah, I should refresh the page before I submit an edit.
The terrain is all flat around (in the middle of pleasantview), the lot is stand alone, the only lot in this testhood besides an empty residential (maxis 2x1 which is next to it, but I don't think that has any influence).
EDIT: Moved the pizza lot to a real stand-alone place, no difference.

I found that there's a workaround: If one has the buy/build mode enalber one can move the car with "moveobjects on" and the sim can leave with it.

Posting at the same time is inevitable, even if you refresh frequently.

I'm glad that you've found a workaround of sorts; I'd still like to try to reproduce this problem and see whether I can figure out what's happening.

Since the car is obviously stopping too close to the edge of the lot, try moving the car stop portal closer to the car start portal, to see whether it helps. Your car's location is very odd, given the location of the car portals, and given that the taxi works just fine.

I played around with the portals with no effect at all, the car always stops at the same place. Though I noticed a difference that's probably related to this somehow: All buyable cars have a footprint (when grabbed) of only one tile at the back left, whereas the taxi has a full 3x6 footprint.

OK, I have reproduced your problem with Uni and NL. Looks like this may be an EA bug with the portals and ownable cars in NL: a bug which is exacerbated with 1-wide lots. Let me work on this awhile and see what I can do.

If you don't mind, I'd prefer to move this discussion to the research thread, since it isn't specific to these lots and will require research and possibly a program to fix:
