Jericho

There has been a settlement along the Kaen-Garen River for as long as anyone can remember. The Old Town of Jericho was a sleepy place, caught in the past, drifting along quite happily in its own little world.

Until one day, someone constructed a big red bridge across the Kaen-Garen, and a new City Hall and high rise buildings sprung up on the other bank. Newcomers moved in, a local government was formed, and new institutions and businesses arose. All at once, the people of Old Town found themselves invaded by a new way of life, and they were not happy!

Will the Old Town citizens be able to preserve their customs, or will they be forced to adapt to the new ways? Will Old Town become part of New Jericho, or will the old buildings remain as a monument to the past? Will the newcomers be accepted into the Old Town culture, or will the societies be ever kept asunder?

Only your sims can decide!

I have some images of my sims in Jericho here, I will be adding to those as I play.

Jericho is featured in a great magazine, SF Magazine. Click HERE to read it! Jericho is on pages 106-109. Thank you to asiashamecca for that!

Armiel has started a story about a Sim (Kimi Raikkonen ) who lives in Jericho, check it out HERE! Thanks, Armiel!

Fourk has started a blog which is set in Jericho, check it out HERE! Thanks, fourk!

Kiwi_tea wrote a very flattering review of Jericho, read it here! Thanks, Kiwi_tea!

Geography

Jericho is situated on a peninsula in the ocean. The city of Boscaster can be seen inland, in the distance. The Kaen and Garen Rivers cut the land, creating a natural boundary between New Town and Old Town. The commercial area lies where the rivers merge, conveniently situated for access from both New and Old Town. To the south of the Jericho Peninsula is a swamp area, and several small islands formed by the Kaen are reclaimed for the New Town settlement. Jericho boasts sandy beaches as well as shingle, and several ancient monuments form landmarks on the Eastern hills. Climate is temperate, with varying skies. The wealthier residents tend to live in the New Town area, but some more expensive properties have been constructed on the Old Town river bank, perhaps prophesying a turn of fortune for that neighbourhood.

A map of Jericho can be seen here.

Population

Jericho is unpopulated. As you play, sims will be moved into the neighbourhood, or you can move your own sims in. If you wish to have more control or to rapidly populate the town, I recommend Twallan's Story Progression Mod. If you are looking for sims to move in to Jericho, I recommend looking at the Sim download section of this site, or perhaps the Population Project at Custom Sims 3.

I have the sims I made for Jericho and other worlds available in my studio. Get them here! Treacle O'Flynn is the one I used to start my Jericho 'legacy' family.

World Information

Map Size: Large 2048X2048

World Type: Jericho is a suburb (the same as Sunset Valley).

Game Requirements: Basegame 1.26, WA-AMB-LN-GEN-PETS 10.0.96. Riverview (non-decrapified) is also required.

Performance

System Requirements: The majority of this was built upon a very low spec computer, however Pets has pushed up the minimum requirements somewhat. This is a large world and it is also very complex; it makes use of effects and has a large number of lots.

Custom Content: None used (except for Riverview).

Custom Resources: I have made extensive use of custom resources in this world, these are files that are included in the world file itself and only function for this world.

Effects: Jericho makes extensive use of in-game effects, some are lot-based and some are at world level. Some of the world effects were imported from the EA worlds using this method.
The number of effects in Jericho is comparable to that in the EA worlds, so should not cause performance issues.

Technical Content

Number of layers: 13

Terrain Paints: Jericho uses 15 terrain paints.

All of the terrain paints were created by myself, most are EA recolours/realphas but some are made from textures found online. Each world chunk has 8 or less textures.

Routing: The majority of the land is routable, including offshore islands. Near to the distant terrain is a band of non-routable terrain, this is to prevent your sims from seeing the join! Some steep areas have been marked as unroutable, where it would look unnatural for sims to walk.

Spawners: All basegame and EP spawners have been included, except those which can be found in the WA Vacation destinations (although one or two exotic fish spawners are placed). I have made a map showing the location of OFF-LOT spawners; I have not included the lot based spawners in this, since those can be changed to your liking. Click here for spawner map. Small animal/bird spawners are placed on lots; however the metal/gem/seed spawners seem to spawn small animals and birds too, so you should see plenty in Jericho after a few days.

Lots: There are 162 lots, 82 residential and 80 community.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

Lot Size: 60X60

In-Game Price: 117816

This derelict farm has fallen into disrepair. Rumour has it that vampires like to hang out here, but I'm not staying around long enough to see if that's true.

This lot is an abandoned farm, in the cellar of which a Rave Club has been set up.

The club has a dance floor and bar, and tables to dance upon.

As it is situated in the swamp part of Jericho, Banetree Farm can sometimes get very misty. Fireflies can be seen after dark, and there is an old windmill which swings around in the breeze.

A movie of the windmill and fireflies can be seen here.

The legendary Fingal was reknowned in this area for his superb poteen. He remained elusive, and although this bar is named after him, no-one is sure whether he really existed or not. The poteen, however, is rumoured to be very real.

This lot is an Irish style bar situated in Jericho Old Town. It is a small part of a larger building, much of which is private and not accessible to the visiting sim.

Fingal's has a bar, dance floor, video games and dart board. It is a good place to dance on the bar!

The tattooist likes to ink Llamas, whether you asked for a Llama or not!

This lot is a tattoo parlour, situated on the main street of Jericho's New Town area. Although tattoo artists will not be routinely assigned to the tattoo chair, your sims can still tattoo each other and you can force the game to assign an NPC using a mod such as Twallan's Register.

Ink Inc. has several rooms which are off-limits, although adventurous sims may be able to find a way to unlock doors and discover what lies inside.

Ink Inc. has a rat problem, so don't be startled if you see one, or else your tattoo will be ruined!

Jericho Police Dept. and Gaol

Rabbithole: Police Department

Lot Size: 30X30

Lot Value: 100577

In-Game Price: N/A (not purchasable)

It's reassuring to know that Jericho is in such safe hands. Last year, the Jericho Police Department solved nearly some of the crimes they investigated.

This lot is a Police Department Rabbithole, but it has a playable Gaol beneath it.

If you read some of the notices on the wall plaques then you may be able to find some secrets!

This lot has one of a network of dive wells in Jericho, all leading to different places. If you manage to find out how to escape from the Gaol, then you can access the Smuggler's cabin and Lighthouse on Salde Rock via dive well.

From Salde, you can then access a hidden tomb beneath the Criminal Warehouse. Who knew there was such a ring of crime in Jericho, and right beneath the Law enforcers' noses, too!

Check out the Governor's secret Nectar Cellar for some light refreshment!

Default Sulis Minerva Roman Baths
Sulis Minerva Roman Baths

Lot Zone: Pool

Lot Size: 46X36

Lot Value: 158184

In-Game Price: 188184

Quote:
This resort makes use of a naturally occurring hot spring. The baths have been here since the Sim Roman era, but the buildings are a recent reconstruction based on archaeological research. To complain about the amount of taxpayers' money spent on this, please visit City Hall.

This lot is inspired by, and loosely based upon, the Roman Baths at Bath, England.

The Bath site has a Victorian building to house the remains of a Roman building; my version however is based upon just the Roman building, and takes shape from images and movies of reconstructions of the Roman site, from the romanbaths.co.uk website.

You can see some movies that inspired me here.

And more detail and images here.

If you are ever in the vicinity, the Roman Baths at Bath are well worth a visit!

My version is somewhat smaller than the original site, but it does have a Frigidarium, Laconicum, Tepidarium, Natatio, Caldarium, hypocaust and temple, just like the original. There are also lots of curses and graffiti to read in the temple- inspired by some of the messages found on tablets excavated from the spring at Bath.
Some of them are just schoolboy Latin puns, though!

As well as the swimming pools and hot tub, Sulis Minerva has latrines and a shower, plus seating areas in the hot rooms.

Steam (and steamy sound) is created by means of a fog emitter in the hypocaust system, if you want to get rid of that look in the basement in buy mode.
