It's a good habit to always delete the 'scriptCache.package' file when you install or replace a scripted mod.If you don't know how ---> Game Help:Sims 3 Delete Cache Files
November 16th, 2012 - The issue should now be resolved, I tested it for a while and there were no more errors. Please redownload the mod again, and report if the error still occurs (the sim gets reset or the interaction gets canceled before starting) November 16th, 2012 - Running the interaction for the first time, when going on vacation, a weird error would issue, resetting the sim. I added a workaround for now and it shouldn't happen anymore. If it does, the interaction will just get canceled. I will investigate it further though November 13th, 2012 - Added Chinese Traditional translation (thanks to wheatberry) November 5th, 2012 - Fixed Polish strings not showing up (thanks to witchwq) November 5th, 2012 - Added the Gambling skill for The Lucky Simoleon Casino (You must own the item from the Store) November 5th, 2012 - Teens with Mood Swings won't autonomously study skills. The same goes for Problem Children (Daycare Situation) November 5th, 2012 - Increased advertising for everyone, especially for Workaholic Sims (double chances they will study a skill) November 5th, 2012 - Improved Autonomy by adding an availability test for stressed Sims November 3rd, 2012 - Fixed an issue with notifications not being shown for errors caught on startup October 31st, 2012 - Updated German translation (thanks to Nic) October 30th, 2012 - Verified 1.42 Compatibility October 30th, 2012 - Added new hidden skills for EP8 - Seasons October 30th, 2012 - JunJayMdM.StudySkillsOnline V9 September 27th, 2012 - Verified 1.39 Compatibility September 18th, 2012 - Updated Polish translation (thanks to witchwq) September 16th, 2012 - Updated Russian translation (thanks to KuriXarya) September 16th, 2012 - The interaction won't be canceled anymore when queueing other interactions (only user-directed) September 16th, 2012 - 'Hidden Skills' without names will now show the 'code' name instead (BroomRiding was one of those) <--- Older entries have been deleted ---> Unlikely. This mod will hardly ever conflict with another one since it only adds new interactions. The worst it can happen is that it won't work, if you have a Core mod installed that changes the resources used by my mod. As far as I know, no such mod exists.
I've been wanting a mod like this since I started playing TS3, but back then I had no clue how to make one...then EA came with the Tablet that would let your sims learn skills with a podcast but it didn't really satisfy me, that's not what I wanted. Finally I realized the mod I've been dreaming of! This mod simply adds a "Study Skills Online" menu to all computers (yes, laptops too), where you can choose skills for your sims to learn. Once a skill has been chosen , your sim will start using the computer (I recycled the 'Browse Web' animation for that, it seemed the most appropriate). Now let's get into details :
Here's a list with all the skills available :
Since V7, this mod has a new interaction called "Settings...", available under the "Study Skills Online..." menu, or when clicking on the Terrain (if enabled). In "Settings..." there are 10 options available, which basically allow the user to change a tunable value. So, what before was achieved with an XML inside the package, can now be achieved while playing. Click the button below to see the specifics for each option. Each option in the menu has the current value in the name, for reference : InteractionName (current value) Every change you make to these values will be permanent when you save the game. You will find more details about these values, when selecting the option ingame. Autonomy This option disables/enables Autonomy for the interaction. Logic *The name of this setting is localized This option disables/enables the Logic skill availability, for Cheap Computers only or all types of Computers. Writing *The name of this setting is localized This option disables/enables the Writing skill availability for all Computers. 'Skill' Gain Rate Per Minute The skill points gained per Sim minute while studying. The higher the value, the faster the skill will gain points. 'Hidden Skill' Gain Rate Per Minute The same as the above one, but this is only for Hidden Skills. Skill Level Threshold Minimum level required for a skill to be studied on a computer. A value of -1 disables the threshold. A value of 0 means there are skill points gained but not reached level 1 yet. 'Autonomous' Skill Level Threshold The same as the above one, but this is only for Autonomy. Show Hidden Skills This option disables/enables Hidden Skills availability. If you want to see the progress get this mod ----> Hidden Skills Unhidden by gobot101 You can see a list of all the hidden skills available in the "Hidden Skills Unhidden" thread. Remember that they're not always available to study, it depends on the sim. It is important to note that, since hidden skills are not supposed to be learned this way, some will gain faster and some slower. You might see empty notifications when leveling up and a good portion of the names are not even localized. There's nothing I can do about it and since this is considered "Cheating", it's a small price to pay. Show Settings Menu on Terrain This option disables/enables the Settings Menu availability when clicking on the Terrain. Reset Values to Default This option resets all values to default (except the options "Autonomy" and "Show Settings Menu on Terrain"). The skill names are directly taken from the game, so they're completely localized for all languages (except some Hidden Skills, they can't be translated). Settings are not available for translation. Why? Because they can be compared to the explanations here on the thread and it's easier for me to provide help for them. If you feel like translating them, check if it "Needs Update", then read the instructions.
- First of all, download the 'Strings' file in the Download tab - Extract it, open the TXT file for the language you want to translate, with Notepad (check the code in the filename) - Replace the text you find inside all the <STR> and </STR> lines Example : <STR>Study Skills Online</STR> -----> <STR>Translated Text</STR> - Do not change anything else in the file or it will become unusable - Now choose 'Save As...' and give it a name containing the language code or I won't be able to identify it - Before saving, make sure that the format is Unicode, or it will become unusable - Last, zip the file and attach it in a post in the Comments tab *** NOTE : One of the strings has a "\n" inside. That's a Line Break. Just place it where you want the line to break Example : "The cat is smoking\nweed on the porch" will read : "The cat is smoking weed on the porch"
