How do you all get this flight of stairs with 2 or 3 steps? Whenever I try it it automaticly pushes the ground below so it reaches it's usual 4 steps.

I think most people in the game start the dock from the water bringing it toward the shore which disrupts the shoreline. I actually start the dock on the shore and go out toward the water, this allows the dock to be more even with the landing area. I haven't found that it hinders the docking of boats, although it can look kind of funny if the dock is extended out for longer distances.

If you hold down the Alt key while placing the steps, it will automatically adjust to the number of steps necessary for the height of the dock.
