What a good idea. With the level ten police career, does this stop them getting into the hero suit and flying to work? As neat as that is, (and I did let him do it once) I keep my head of police at a level 9 because of that.

Thinking about it I am sure there are other careers that I would like to see changed. Athletic for one, what exactly is a 'hall of famer'? Perhaps Olympic Athlete might be better. You probably need a thread in Creator Feedback as this will take some thought.

I also wonder if they still become captain hero and fly off? Don't like it either, especially if they stay in costume a while after work.

In general, I'd like the top level of all careers to be just slightly more... I don't know - humble? Like, actually achievable within a smaller community. Any hospital needs a chief of staff, so that makes a lot of sense to be the top, but does a teacher really have to end up as education minister to be considered the top of their career?

A 'hall of famer' is a very notorious sportsman who has been elected to a Hall of Fame. That is a real thing and very realistic.
I was thinking about these changes the other day, and I think they're fantastic.
I'm really bothered by those two downloads and:
Slacker lvl 10: "Professional party guest". What in the name of the Lord.
Adventurer lvl 10: "Space Pirate". No thank you.
Oceanography lvl 10: "Hand of Poseidon". Ugh.

EDIT: I wanted to add, that I like my Sims quite realistic. If I want a space pirate Katy Perry flying around I'll go back to either Sims 3 or ... *sigh* Sims 4.

What a cool idea! Just a suggestion - I'd love a default replacement for the lvl 10 Criminal job. Maybe something along the lines of a crime boss, perhaps?

I'm glad that someone finds these useful! In the Law Enforcement career track level 10 sims no longer fly off to work in a superhero outfit - they dress in a nice suit and drive to work instead! Thank you for mentioning it, I will edit the upload to include this information as I can imagine it being quite important to people!

In the Science career track level 10 sims no longer work during the night, either - that's fitting for a mad scientist, but not for a scientific advisor! :-)

I'm working on Criminal and Oceanography - thank you for confirming that they are something that people would be interested in! I'm trying to completely overhaul Adventurer, as quite a few of the levels make no sense to me - I'm thinking about making two different careers, both vaguely "adventurous", so that one could be a default and the other custom (or people could pick the one they like best and just have a default). One would be general adventurer stuff, like spelunker, and the other one would be a bit more "secret service"esque, with roles like hostage negotiator. The career track as it stands has never made any sense to me at all! I've also been working on the Natural Science career - replacing the top 3 levels, as I don't like them :-D

I hadn't thought of Slacker, I'll add that one to the list. Athletics has always made sense to me, but I'll make an altered version for you, Jo - and for anyone else out there who might be interested in it! Perhaps it only makes sense to Americans/people who follow American sport? I'm quite fond of basketball, so maybe that's why it made sense to me... :-)

Oh, and I really like the idea of more "humble" careers, but I think that that may be a whole different set of default replacements! Most of the careers would require an overhaul, I reckon. It's definitely something I'd like to tackle one day, so do watch this space :-D

So Hall of famer is to do with a famous basketball player who was elected to some to some Hall of Fame. Like a museum you walk around with plaques and statues to people? I have no idea, it must be an American thing. I thought EA had just made that up all these years lol!

I would love Olympic athlete to replace that but if an outfit is to be used for it can it be made up colours? I don't want US colours and I won't ask for Aussie colours since not that many of your downloaders would want our green and gold.

Once we put this in, any sim in the law enforcement career will automatically get this new level 10?

I have always disliked these two careers especially. I see you are going to tackle others like space Pirate. I will keep following to see what hyou come up with. I also like more realism in my game. But I still play with a few witches and vampires! Thanks again.

I have a request:
I have, I think by Phaenoh, a hack that adds the job level # to the title. This is a sanity-saver for apocalypse players. I think it may be a default also? It only works on the game careers, not on custom, anyway. Can you put # on your job titles, is that possible?
Also, on the Law career, it would be nice to have the top level be Judge, rather than 'The Law'. On the Adventurer career I personally treat it as a diplomatic service career. Music and Dance are just plain random, and Oceanography could use a new level 10. Criminal could be 'Mob Boss'.
I also have a hack that just renames the Slacker career to Freelancer, which fits much more nicely, but I don't know if that will work with your planned fix. Well, I guess I'll get to figure that out when the time comes. Hard choices . . .

It's not just basketball, I think, I'm pretty sure it's all American sports (or perhaps just all sports that Americans play). I only know about it because I like basketball and vaguely follow the NBA. But it's not something that EA made up! :-)

I will see what I can do with regards to the outfit. I have no recolouring skills whatsoever, so I'll have to use an outfit that came with the game or that someone else made and is OK with me using. But I'll make sure it's made up colours of some kind :-)

Yes, once you put that it any sims who is at level 10 in the law enforcement career/the science career will automatically get my level 10 instead of the Maxis one as my career will overwrite the EA version.

Yes, it's also a default and hence will conflict with my defaults. I will look into incorporating the level numbers into my careers as well, if that's OK with Phaenoh! :-) I will also make 2 versions of the Slacker career when I change the top level - one where it stays as Slacker and one where it's renamed as Freelancer.

I will have a look at all the careers you've mentioned and see what I can do! :-) Diplomatic service career is the phrase I was looking for - I will make one version of the Adventurer career as a diplomatic service career and one version as a sort of adventurer/criminal/daredevil kind of career. Still working on the levels for those ones! I hadn't thought about changing Music or Dance - what kind of changes would you like to see there?

I've started a thread in Creator Feedback to try to get more suggestions - it's here, if anyone wants to add comments there :-)

Awesome. I have a Sim who's a Mad Scientist, and I really hate that concept. Often makes me wish he remained a Theorist because that's at least a realistic(and sane/respectable) position.

But will the game vomit if I add this mod even though he's already at the ceiling of the career? I don't really want to go through the trouble of de-leveling him, install the mod and then re-level him.again...

As far as I'm aware it shouldn't be a problem. I know that it is possible to change other default replacements even when they are being used by sims in the game - for example default maternity wear, skintones or eyes - so I would imagine that it wouldn't cause any problems. Provided you do it when he is at home, not at work, anyway - as the Science career changes do alter the time that sims go to work, as well as the job title. I don't know what would happen if he was away at work when you added my default replacement, but I wouldn't risk it! :-)

I like the Science one, but I feel a bit sad because there's no more sexy lab coats for Science Sims. Ah well.

Another career I'd suggest you to replace is Natural Science. Most of it is okay... but the last one is ludicruous. Not only the concept is silly, the outfit is 100% indecent. Actually, there's more than the last level that's silly. Cloning dinosaurs is a stupid and unrealistic idea. Natural Science really should be the study of plant life, animals and bacteria, and to find a way to integrate that knowledge into technology, but Maxis somehow forgot the last part.

For example, late-level Natural Scientists would probably study biofuels and find a way to harness those from plants, mid-to-late level workers would merge two species' DNA together to create hybrids(sounds silly, I know, but I've seen hybrid farms which merged the DNA of a spider's web with a goat, and produced a goat whose milk contained spider silk, as said silk was extremely resistant but the spider who produced it was rare and hardly bred), and mid-level workers would, as a connection between the Science and Medical career tracks, experiment possible Sim vaccines on animals that have compatible DNA strands(possibly also connecting to the Ratkeeper level), determining if it's safe or not for Sim use. Everything up to Level 4 is fine, though.

It's Biology 101. And clearly Maxis doesn't know squat about biology.

Did you just know how to do this because you're brilliant, or was there a tutorial you followed for defaulting careers?

I would very much like to know how she did this without causing a red flare in Sims2Pack Clean Installer. I tried making a couple small changes to Paranormal and got the red alert - though it doesn't seem to be causing any trouble (so far).

kasparlaks asked what was the point of "Professional party guest" - it's sort of "Famous for being famous", that is, having a Big Name without having done anything (recently) to earn it. Consider Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, or more to the point the real-life actress Gloria Swanson who played her. She hadn't been in front of the cameras in years, but everyone still knew who she was and invited her to all the best parties.
