So I looked into a couple comments about issues. Only thing out of the ordinary I've found is the XML file for Join/Quit Career have some additional stuff from the Parenthood GP (which has presumably been there since Parenthood release). So I uploaded a version that has those files updated to include the lines from Parenthood GP. Not entirely sure if those changes are present in the file if you don't have Parenthood. It may be you only need them if you have Parenthood.
If you still experience issues after this, please let me know. I didn't find anything obviously amiss apart from that.
To use the updated files, just swap the "no grade loss" files from 3/23 for the one from 7/23.
: The auto-enroll issue has been fixed (in a very specific way). For the time being, the solution is that auto-enroll will be a no-go across the board, if you use the script attached in this update (it's the file called "3-24-17-Triplis--NoAutoEnroll"). With this script, whether you reload, travel, or age up Toddler --> Child or Child --> Teen, your sim will never be enrolled in school without your doing it.
You can nonetheless enroll your Child or Teen in school through the Phone --> Find a Job. Even if you are using the "ChildOnly" version of the mod, your Teen will still be able to enroll in school through Phone --> Find a Job (they just won't be able to quit after enrolling with that version of the mod).
Already have the mod?
Update by adding the script file to your mods folder. You don't need to do anything with the package file if you already have one.
Don't have it yet?
See the notes below on what files to use.
Special thanks to Neia for helping me find the right place to look for making this change.
Auto-Enroll Issue Part 2 (3/23/17)
: [This issue is now fixed: See Update from 3/24/17]
I have not been able to resolve the below outlined issue yet, but I wanted to ensure that the mod is playable in its current state, so I've uploaded a version of the mod that makes it so that your grade does not lower from quitting. Meaning, for example, if you are an A student and you have to quit a lot due to the issue, your grade should remain an A, as opposed to the prior way, where your grade would lower one letter each time you quit.
I also figure it's just a nice option to have. The update comes in two versions, as before: ChildOnly and ChildTeen. Only use one and replace the prior file you downloaded if you want this option (don't use the old and the new at the same time). They are the files with the words "NoGradeLoss" in the name.
Auto-Enroll Issue (3/23/17)
: [This issue is now fixed: See Update from 3/24/17]
It has come to my attention that when you travel after having quit school, you will be enrolled back in school automatically. This is not intended. I'm looking into the problem and will update when I have a solution. In the mean time, you can still use the mod as intended; you'll just have to quit again after traveling. Sorry about any inconvenience this issue causes and thank you to those that reported it.
You can quit school as a Child or Teen by opening up your phone, going to the Career/Household panel, and clicking "Quit Job." The game will prompt you to confirm your decision, the same as if you're quitting a career as an adult.
You can rejoin school after quitting by opening up your phone, going to the Career/Household panel, and clicking "Find a Job." The game will bring up the panel that allows you to choose a career. Note that you will start a grade behind what you quit at. So if you were C when you quit, you will be D when you rejoin. If you were D when you quit, you will be F when you rejoin.
Differences between Child and Teen
: Children can't be whisked away from having too low of a Grade. I put this in the mod to handle situations where you quit/rejoin a lot and end up with a really bad grade that is hard to get out of and puts your Child Sim close to being taken away.
: Teens require some explaining. For reasons I haven't yet wrapped my head around, allowing Teens to quit school like it's a career interferes with whatever it is that normally allows them to have a job and attend school. This means that if you try to have a job and attend school as a Teen (with this mod installed) the game will prompt you to choose one over the other; only job or only school.
Because of this...
I'm attaching two different versions of the mod. One only allows Child Sims to quit/rejoin school. The other allows both Child Sims and Teen Sims to quit/rejoin school. So if you want the Child part, but don't want to deal with the jankiness of choosing between job and school for Teens (see above), you can do that.
3/24/17 Update: There is a choice to have no grade loss from quitting. This means your options are: ChildOnly, ChildTeen, ChildOnlyNoGradeLoss, or ChildTeenNoGradeLoss. As before, only use one of the 4 package files!
Also use the script file "NoAutoEnroll" to turn off all auto-enrolling.
This mod overrides several game files. Mods that edit the same files will conflict. The files are as follows.

Scripting note for other modders
:The scripts in NoAutoEnroll edit "ensure_age_based_career" in sims/sim_info.py (so any scripts that change the default code for that method will conflict... appending code may or may not, you can download the file and look at its .py form to check it against any edits you may want to make for your own mods)
The text still reads like you're quitting or joining a job, even though it's school. Part of me wanted to change this, but the number of places and ways to change it seemed like a lot of work just for appearances. If I get a bug in me to do it at a later time, I might.
Also, if you encounter bugs, let me know. I did some limited testing and didn't run into any obvious issues, but it's possible I missed something.
