Oh yeah, my pet peave

Date Posted: 21st Oct 2008 at 1:34 AM

Now how do I say this without offending. But it just drives me crazy sometimes.

Why do some people think that just because they made something, it should be uploaded?

One of the earlier starter lots I made was called oak street or something. At the time, I thought it was quite an accomplishment. Now I look at it and say ick. It wasnt great but some people liked it I guess.

So yes, I uploaded it, and it got accepted. If it hadnt, I wouldnt be ranting in the forum saying my lot, which is the most awesome in the history of MTS2. should have been accepted.

But there are some people that do just that. It reminds me of the people that go on American Idol and you see them on the bloopers. When they dont get to go to Hollywood, they all say the same thing - Wait till you see me when Im a star.

Well thats my rant. I'll probably delete this now that I said it, hehe

Some New Stuff

Date Posted: 21st Oct 2008 at 1:07 AM

Ive been building some new lots again. This is a mediterranean type of series. I guess you can say its they type of thing you would find in Florida, California or sometimes Las Vegas.

I think theyre coming out ok. Ive only uploaded one so far. These are mostly furnished. Furnishing takes me more time than the actual building. Thats why I love just uploading unfurnished lots. But then, not many people prefer unfurnished.
Anyway, I hope these meet approval. They've been fun to create

Picked Uploads

Date Posted: 13th Sep 2008 at 9:32 PM

Another one of my lots got picked. That makes 7! I'm very excited.
If I understand correctly things become picked based on people downloading and other factors, and it's some strange formula.
An item becomes "Featured" when it is selected by the MTS2 staff.

I think it's great when the mods and staff select your work. Theyre experts in a way. But to me, Its more rewarding to get a picked upload. That means the community really likes it-I think. Well either way I'm grateful.
I'm so insecure

Apartment Life

I don't have my laptop back from HP yet. I still have no idea if they wiped out my hard drive, and therefore everything I was creating. The thought of having to redo everything is too monumental to contemplate. And I REALLY liked what I was making.

Now I'm thinking of AL. The only way I could get in the mood to make anything is if I have a new expansion. But it will take me a while playing it, and getting a feel. Ive been looking forward to AL mainly cause I favor urban settings. The only problem, well actuall only two problems are I need something to play it on and its still buggy. New expansions are bug ridden. I usually wait 6 months before buying.

It looks really cool. I like the new additions like spiral stairs and the bed in the wall.

Gone for good? Maybe

Date Posted: 19th Aug 2008 at 5:45 AM

Well I started a new lot series. I really liked this one too. The theme was something a little different from my urban stuff. I made 3 preliminary lots and they may be gone for good. All the work was done, pics, description and everything. I have this stupid habit of uploading in groups. I just like to keep them together, assuming they all get approved of course.
But guess what?
Without any warning one day, my computer had a major critical event and I dont know if its alive. Theres no video so I dont know whats going on with it. HP says I need to replace the system board. Well, that may wipe out my hard drive and everything I had saved. All my other uploads were on it too so they may be gone. Even my work files and sketches are gone.

I have an old backup but it wont save the new stuff. OH WELL
Oh and right now Im just using a laptop. The other thing has all the graphics and bells and whistles.

So if the lots are gone, I have to decide if I want to attempt to recreate. It seems like so much work right now that I cant even think about it.

I should have saved on a cd, I know....too late now

The Community

The Sims community, and particularly the MTS2 community is incredible. They are the nicest group of people. It amazes me how they will take the time to leave such nice messages or just say thanks. The people here are so ready to help or give a suggestion. I just want to say how much I appreciate it. It's what makes me want to keep creating stuff! Hopefully, I can make things that will be liked. Thanks everyone. And thanks to the moderators and admins too :D

Picked Upload

Date Posted: 22nd Jul 2008 at 3:40 AM

This is so strange. One of my Soho Starter lots is a picked upload. I don't remember the lot having a star next to it. It was uploaded sometime in April.
Could I have never noticed that it was picked? Is it possible to get it as a picked upload months later. Well, either way, I appreciate the little star very very much.

Can't decide what to do

Date Posted: 19th Jul 2008 at 11:23 PM

Well, I doubt very much if I will attempt another sim in the "other" category. Theyre supposedly not unique enough. To me they look like real people warts and all and not big aliens with dish plate eyes.

So probably I am sticking with lots for MTS2. I want to do something in a series. I personally just enjoy them and they make me feel complete. I think the community likes things in sets also. Im leaning towards no cc, base game with maybe one or two starters included in the series. It takes more time to furnish but I may do partial furnishings. If I have an unfurnished or furnished version for a lot, the downloads are split. So, theres not a definate trend. Alot of people don't want cc. No one doesnt dl a lot simply because it lacks cc. Unless its just dreary and ugly. I do alot of cheats to get different looks with maxis stuff. Its fun and challenging. Granted, there are some that will not dl a lot because it has move object, boolprop cheats, etc.

I will decide on a theme first. I dont do cute very well. Big mansion types are a drain on most peoples computers. I know Im probably just talking to myself here
But if anyone happens to read this, suggestions are always welcome

Challenges

Date Posted: 19th Jul 2008 at 12:29 AM

If I wasn't such a coward I would submit something. Actually its because I would probably be over my head. Small fish in a big pond of talent.

I kinda miss my Sims families. I may check in on them. I havent since last October or so.

There's a new expansion coming out, Apartments. I may kill off alot of my older sims to make room for a whole new neighborhood of urban dwellings.
I heard that they may write some code in the software that limits the installations. That would deter me. I noticed that MTS2 has made some inprovements to the uploading area. Great news. It was such a hassle at times.

What really drives me crazy is the cc requirements. Some of the items I have are really old and the original creator is long gone and I cant link back to them. I know I just have to omit it from the lot. But sometimes it's SOOO perfect that it makes me cry to leave it out ;p MTS2 should allow for that somehow. Maybe put some disclaimer after the original creators name. Like ((Gone but not forgotten)) lol
