Whew!

Date Posted: 2nd Jul 2010 at 3:08 AM

I just uploaded two new sets. It feels good to have those out of my hair.

Now... on to the next project!

You know when you stare at a project for so long...

... that you can't even tell if it looks good anymore? That's the problem I'm having right now. I'm not entirely happy with it, but I'll probably like it even less if I keep fiddling with it.

More boys' clothes! Yay!

If I can ever straighten out their arms. Well, not straighten, exactly.

Age conversions are a pain in the... shoulder. Teens and children don't have the same number of vertices/faces on the arms. Of course not... that would make things way too easy! So now I'm left to deal with this sort of mess:

I've tried adjusting the bones. Doesn't do much. I wish I could just cut out the arms altogether and replace them with full child arms... but I tried that, too, and I get all these extra faces on my UV map of unknown origin. (Right now, I've got teen shoulders with child arms stuck on.)

Here's the goal:

They look okay from the front (well, except for the fact that Body Shop is crunching all my textures). They look okay from the back, too... mostly. It's just the silly armpit that looks like skin origami.

Stupid UV maps...

I'm trying to get these tank tops to look decent, but the UV map is tripping me up. I'm getting rather frustrated:

It looks okay from a distance, but the shoulders just don't want to line up. And when I get them looking nice and aligned in MilkShape, the in-game animations go and make it look like crap.

I hope nobody's done those long shorts for little boys yet. I thought they'd look cute on the younger ones. Haven't made the fat morph yet, though. I hate fat morphs. They tend to explode on me... especially with separates.

Oh, and what the heck is going on with that line on the green-shorts kid's leg? Gah... Looks like I need to adjust the UV map there, too.

Qipao!

At least, I think that's what these dresses are called. One of my friends wore something similar to our grad/prom (although hers was longer). I think it's a really cool style, and is perfect for everyday and formal wear. Check it out:

The textures were a pain. I think I still need to adjust the UV map; there's a bit of bleeding at the shoulders (but I don't know if I'm going to be able to get it much better... the animation seems to make the texture stretch). Anyway, I'm glad I finally got to finish this project. I couldn't have done it without CatOfEvilGenius and her handy-dandy UV map flipper thingy. It is beyond me why EAxis feels the need to do silly things like mirror the front (but not the back) of a UV map... thus making it next to impossible to combine that piece into a new mesh. But now we can flip those UV maps to our hearts' content! Yay, Cat! :lovestruc

Long break? No kidding...

Date Posted: 16th May 2010 at 11:54 PM

Now that I'm creating some stuff again, I'm realizing how long I went without doing so. Almost two months?! I've got some more ideas now... but I haven't gotten around to making much yet. And my old computer slows me down even more (it can't keep up with my mouse clicks!).

Anyway, there's something new coming. Click here for a sneak peek.

Bones, bones, bones...

... and the silly toddlers who slouch and make a mess of my otherwise functional meshes! Argh. Maybe the fourth time's the charm (it better be... it takes so long to fire up this silly game!).

EDIT:

Nope. Fourth time wasn't the charm. *headdesk*

Sticky mess...

Am I the only one who can't read past the first page of posts if the thread is a "sticky"?

Toddler posture stinks!

Seriously. Stand up straight! Those little ones are going to end up with hunchbacks...

It's a pain when you're trying to make meshes and the MilkShape posture has little to do with the in-game posture.

I hate my computer.

If it's not taking 5 seconds per click in Photoshop, it's balking at my attempts to get into the chat room here on MTS. I keep getting this pop-up window that says "Please wait while your stored Java applets are updated for Java SE 6." It's now popping up even when I'm not trying to get into the chat room.

EDIT: It appears that I've been infested with Trojans. It looks like at least one rode in with the Java applet for the chat; at least, that's the way it looks from the scan log.

I hate having to fix software messes. I'd much rather be playing with my Sims.
