I believe this could go here. I'm looking to create an object that turns on to show a MATD animation. Well I'm creating a sprinkler, but I don't want to clone off of the Open For Business one. I have the mesh made, and I can do the texture animation, but where I'm stuck is how someone would turn the thing on or off. Should I clone off of a candle light or something that has the texture animation already? Or should I start from scratch? Or does anyone have any suggestions what I should clone off of? Well the main thing is the switch.
I hope this made sense.

From the sounds of it, you want an object that changes material in response to an interaction.
If you ask nicely, you might be able to clone someone else's object that already has this property. I'd check out this one for starters:

If that's not practical and you don't want to have to touch BHAVs, you could probably clone something like a light (one with a different "on" texture to its "off" texture). It would also have all the regular light behaviours as well though, not sure if that's likely to be a problem.
Alternatively, you can try creating one from a statue, but that'd take a bit of editing. There are some instructions on "Change Material" here:
