View Full Version : Having issues with recoloring...

I hope this is the right place for this question, if not, sorry.

I've read the tutorial here (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=102356), and followed the steps exactly.
I did a test run with one of the default game chairs, and it worked.
So I moved on to what I wanted to recolor, a custom object from SimSlice.

Yes, I read their TOS and saw this...
"If you wish to recolor our objects, we may be interested in hosting them here at Simslice, but not on other sites. Click on our Submissions page for details -- if you are interested, we'd love to hear from ya. :)"
...So, I can recolor their stuff, I just can't put it anywhere except SimSlice, which I respect.

I got the "New Military Hummer" from Wintermuteai1 (here - last row, right (http://www.simslice.com/thesims2/guests/wintermuteai1-pg7.htm)) and then got the "Stealth Black HMV" (here - second row, middle (http://www.simslice.com/thesims2/ts2objects-pg10.htm)) and the "Military High Mobility Vehicles!" (here - top row, middle (http://www.simslice.com/thesims2/ts2objects-pg11.htm)). I wasn't reading at the time and thought the last two were drivable, a mistake there. Wintermuteai1's hummer IS drivable, but the color is HORRID and I wanted to change it to black, for my own personal use, since I want my Sim-self to have a Black Humvee like I do.

So, I thought... "Maybe I can Export the textures from the other two, import them into Wintermuteai1's, save with 'nhi_' added to the start and it should work."

WRONG! ><

I looked at the file names of Wintermuteai1's hummer, and here is the filename of the texture I had to Export in order to change to Black...

I wasn't sure about that filename since the filename for the other trucks started with "simslice," so I checked the Sedan in game, and sure enough, home boy has the wrong file names, the recolor I did for his hummer was being put into / onto the game's default Sedan. ><

Now, before I ask for help with this, please note that this is my FIRST attempt(well second if you count the test chair recolor, lol) at recoloring.

Okay... Question time! LOL

How do I go about correcting this? How can I get the Black texture from the NON-Drivable Stealth Black HMV(or one of the other textures from the Military High Mobility Vehicles!) to appear in the DRIVABLE Hummer's color thing in game?

Please help me figure this out,
Thanks in advance,
NHI

Since the Hummer is a pay file, I can't take a look at it, but my guess is that the creator did not update the MMATs for the new GUID. I don't think it's a problem with the texture file name, but the MMAT and the GUID. If it is so, you can take the car's new GUID number from the Object Data and copy it to replace the value of objectGUID in the MMAT file in the mesh package (and commit and save). You have to repeat the same for the recolor package's MMAT, or create a whole new recolor with the fixed mesh package. However, anyone using your recolor would then have to get the fixed mesh package, too, otherwise it wouldn't work. So, the best option would be to have the creator fix the mesh file and then recolor it and offer for others for downloading.
