Ok so story goes like this.
I bought a new computer meant for gaming, downside it has windows vista.
I bought the sims 2, installed it and it worked fine. Maybe played it for an hour or two.
Tried downloading some things and putting them into the downloads folder then started up the game and when i clicked on create a sim it would go to the mirror room and then crash. Also the body shop would crash too.
So got rid of all downloads, restarted the game and all that showed of the characters were their faces. (poop)
So re installed the game. Seemed to be fine made another family then saved and quit game. Next time i started it up i tried to move the family into a house it crashed. So i restart the game and now all thats showing of the family are just the faces and when i try to get into the lot, it crashes on me.
I went to the sims 2 website and did the whole customize icon thingy and that didnt work at all.
Anyone know what it is that I am doing wrong?

Sounds like a graphics card issue to me. Can you post your computer specs (Graphics card, most important) please.

This is a quote from Ea support.
Will this game work in Windows Vista?
Answer
This game was created before Windows Vista was released. Unfortunately Electronic Arts cannot guarantee compatibility with Windows Vista for all games.
If you are having problems running a game and you think it is related to compatibility with Windows Vista, you can try to get the game to work by running it in Compatibility Mode.
1.
Right-click the game's desktop shortcut icon and choose 'Properties'.
2.
In the Properties Panel, click the 'Compatibility' tab.
3.
Place a check in the 'Compatibility Mode' checkbox.
4.
Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) in the mode box.
5.
Click 'Apply' to save your changes.
If you did not opt to have a desktop icon installed:
1.
Find the game icon listed in your Games directory.
2.
Right-click on the game and click on 'Customize'. This will bring up the Customize menu.
3.
Select 'Play'.
4.
Select ' Edit'.
5.
This will bring up the Properties screen. Click the 'Compatibility' tab.
6.
Check 'Run in Compatibility Mode' and then choose Windows XP (or whatever operating system the game was designed for).
7.
Press 'Apply' then press 'OK'. You will be back at the customize menu.
8.
Close the customize screen.
9.
Now the game is configured to run in Compatibility Mode.
Please note that this will only make the game run in Compatibility Mode if you click on the shortcut that you set Compatibility Mode for. All other shortcut icons (such as in your Start menu) will have to have these changes made as well.
If the game continues to fail, you may need to edit the run features of the game to override User Account Control features in Windows Vista.
Note: You will be altering OS security and Parental Controls when performing the steps below. Please be aware that if you follow these steps, you will need to contact Microsoft for further support.
Windows Vista User Account Control Step by Step Guide
Pay special attention to:
“Scenario 2: Mark an application to always run elevated” and “Scenario 3: Configure User Account Control”

E.A. is where i first went to when i had the problem. I did the compatibilty stuff and i still got the same results. All I can say is this, that when I uninstall the game after its being weird, it runs fine, and i can play it for hours. But when i save and quit then the next day boot it up, it goes all weird. Like the people are there, but all i can see are their faces. Or if that doesnt happen when i go to enter the lot it crashes.

http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Game_Problem Try running through this FAQ. It might not be your downloads, it could be a problem with your game files or other user files.
