for some reason, all of my sims start out with their thermometer red, then go do something like drink out of a punch bowl and it jumps down to blue! it even does this with custom content disabled! any ideas? thanks.

Disabling is not the same thing as removing - I never trust disabling but the game will not read files if they are removed...

I would tend to recommend testing by removing ALL your user files temporarily, to rule them out as a whole. Probably a downloaded file but it's good to start at the top and work your way down: http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=139718
