View Full Version : November Creator Challenge

tiggerypum
28th Oct 2007, 01:53 AM
This month, as you'll have noticed, there hasn't been a poll for the next theme. There will be one next month.

This month, however, the theme is, by popular demand:
Fairytale!

Everything magical and mysterious, faeries, dragons, witchcraft - whatever you can think of! I know you might have Halloween on your mind right now, but don't get too caught up in the dark and the evil - remember there are good guys too ;)

Do NOT submit random haunted/creepy stuff for this challenge. Whatever you create, give everyone a bit of background about the inspiration/tale it is from. Legends from all over the world are welcome.

As always, make sure your entry is up to the Creator Requirements (http://forums.modthesims2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=338), and have a look at the newly tidied up rules (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=239934), there are some important changes there.

And, of course, make sure to vote in the poll for the Exceptional Awards of the Hollywood challenge, here (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=253560)!

Get your entries in before NOV 28th!

Happy Halloween and good luck!

I don't see any reason why creators couldn't work together, as with normal uploads. (I may be corrected though :P )

The citation from rules:
"You may only enter ONE picture set, and should be a beginning creator."

I am not the beginning creator. But I make only recolors.
I cannot participate? I have correctly understood?

Sorry my English not so good. I do not use it in a daily life.

This by far will be may favorite creator challenge ever:D

whiterider
28th Oct 2007, 10:53 PM
SvJW, what that means is that if you are creating recolours of paintings, you may only upload one set. Last theme was Old Hollywood, so a lot of people uploaded zillions of movie poster sets, which is what this is about. You can upload as many other recolours as you like, although remember that quality is far more important than quantity.

lol... Of course, being ambitious, but lacking in time, I'm looking at the mad King Ludwig's famous fairytale castle... "Neuschwanstein castle" ... Not enough time to do it justice for this contest's deadline, so I'll pass on the castle. Hopefully, someone who has lots of time will make that one for the contest. :0)

Sorry but I dont know what upload type I have to take when I want to upload a lot. Its neither a maxis or custom mesh recolour nor a new mesh :help: .

tiggerypum
29th Oct 2007, 04:35 PM
jon, for lots just say 'maxis recolor'. The upload wizard had to be general for the category because it accepts all sorts of things.

And Porky, that is beautiful, although I'd think it would need to be scaled back a bit to be playable in game. And of course, would require the story to be shared ;)

I'll poke around with a 'little' version and see how far I get. I don't have much time to play right now... It requires CC for the towers and walls and spires. unless of course,, midsimmer's night's dream has some useful stuff... I'll have to look at my 'turret' collection and see what kinds of recolors I'll need to do.. ;0)

I haven't built a Bavarian palazzo yet.

Good luck, porkypine! I actually tackled Neuschwanstein once and ended up with a lovely castle that I labled as "inspired by" since it was extremely scaled back. lol.

Exactly what kind of fantasy worlds are we talking about here? Old Euro Grimm Brothers stories? Tolkien and CS Lewis? Roald Dahl? there are so many tangents here.

If someone decides to build Willy Wonka factory, please do so! I've been wanting to see Candyland style furnishings and wall and floor sets (for kids rooms) for a long time.
Do it myself if i had the cash to get the software.

We've seen enough Hogwarts stuff already.

If I could mod I'd totally make a hacked object mirror that when walked through/used would teleporter your sims to a different place. Of course it would have to be a secret lot like what is used in Bon Voyage. And I can't mod.

Absolutely do take the time to visit:

http://www.msichicago.org/exhibit/fairy_castle/Fc_home.htm

The many times I was lucky enough to visit this magnificently enchanted castle as I child, I was enthralled.

Although it is very hard for the photos to do it true justice, by looking through all of the rooms, you may be inspired and get many lovely ideas.

I have a question about the judging process, are previous winners of the exceptional trophy still going to be judged like all the rest, or will they be penalized since they already won? I'd love to see my name on the short list again, but if thats not possible, I don't really want to get myself chin deep in a project if it can't achieve that. (No, winning isn't everything to me, but my creating time is limited and I've got other projects I keep pushing aside). From the other side of the fence it doesn't seem fair to let the same people keep winning, so I'd like to know what the judge's viewpoint of this is. Perhaps a happy medium of recognition but the entry not actually being votable, maybe? I don't know.

Well.... I'm geting ready to pack my fairytale castle lot... man! Lots of CC... Got to
find and credit all the creators... lol.. It may take me till Nov 28 to them all listed. lol

Hey Tig, I'll upload the lot as one entry and then I can come back and enter the outfits seperately? I don't know if I'll have time to finish those. New mesh.

cnj - Don't panic, your object is in the mod queue. Patience. :)

Ya, was wondering. It's not because of the mod queue, but rather because I've been working on my system and tweaking it out a bit for my business, so I was kind of worried that it was showing me it was in the queue, but actually never got through. LOL

Sorry, I'm a techie by trade. Those things keep my thoughts brewing at times. Much thanks for the reassurance Echo :)

HELP!! I am having lots of problems removing the hitchhiker CC from my lot. When I try to remove it, all the cc is gone, including the stuff I want in the lot.

I've reinstalled Sims2Pack clean installer to no avail.

Would someone be willing to assist me in cleaning up this lot? I can give you a Sims2pack clean installer screen shot of the what is to be cleaned out. However, I can not save it with the excess stuff removed, it all disappears and reverts to the original cloned item. I can upload the packed lot to my personal webspace and give you the link.

This lot requires BonVoyage, Seasons and Pets. It's a huge lot with a castle and secret escape passages, 2 village houses, gardens, a village bath house, and mass gardens and ponds. I had lots of fun making it.

Thanks, :0) If that is not possible just let me know and I'll arm wrestle with it again.

I may need to remove the furnishings to get the lot size down and just post the links for the furniture recolors and such. Maybe I'll do that. I'll need to keep the build items though. We'll see. if not, I'll just give you the pics. ! :0)

Hey there porkypine, boy do I feel your pain. I spent the last two days wrestling with hitchhikers for my lot as well. My guess is that it's not Sims2pack CleanInstaller but something else that went wrong with the cc after BV.

Here is what I did to get my lot cleaned up:
* Empty the download folder of everything (saving the original download folder to your desktop)
* Install the lot, hitchhickers & all to populate the download folder
* Use Sims2pack CleanInstaller to move the hitchhikers out of the download folder (or just delete them if you can tell which files they are)
* After the download folder is all cleaned up you can package the lot

Note that there are also problems where all of the required cc doesn't necessarily attach in the lot package. You will have to check out the lot and if anything is missing include it with your uploads as a separate file. Again you can verify this by using the clean download folder.

Good luck, I will be cheering for you.

sigh..... :| Ok. I'll arm wrestle with it when I get some time. I was thinking I'd have to do that anyway but wanted to avoid all that work. :wtf: Good thing I'm working in Numenor's Utility rather than the full game. Less stuff to wade through.

thanks!

I had to partition my lot into three parts to meet the upload size requirements. Oddly enough, Sims2pack CleanInstaller worked when I had to reduce the package size, thank goodness, though it didn't work in other situations when I was trying to remove the hitchhikers. I wish I could tell you the conditions under which it will work & when it will fail but I couldn't find a pattern. I just kept trying until some combination finally clicked. Keep us posted on your progress.

hmmm.... moan, groan, complain... AAACCKKK

Well, I've found out one thing. I can't use Sims2pack clean installer to install my lot. - It won't install in either Numeors base game BV set OR, the full game...

I CAN, however, use the Maxis installer, which puts it in my normal game. Well, I'll jettison the download folder contents, and work on it from the full game... fh$23h430hnfknf$#@^%@#^%$. Clean out the hitchhiker's manuallym, test and repack... SHEESH! all for a contest! I think I'll go back to making meshes instead of lots.
