View Full Version : MTS3...kinda. Sims 3... and more! (Artists, see inside!)

Hi All,
The Sims 3
As you probably already know, the release of The Sims 3 is right around the corner! With the release date quickly approaching, we wanted to share some important info about the future of MTS2.
MTS2 is not disappearing!
Fear not - we're not shutting down or closing the site or anything like that! The same downloads, tutorials, and game help will continue to be available. We will still accept Sims 2 submissions, and discussion on TS2 will still happen over at the community site. We have no plans to discontinue any site features or functions related to The Sims 2 - now, or in the future.
We will be expanding for TS3!
We've long said "We're not doing an MTS3" and that's still true - it's not going to be called MTS3! Instead, MTS2 and the associated sites (Sims2Community, Sims2Wiki, and SexySims2) will all be joining the new MTS Network of sites which will cover TS2 and TS3 (and beyond?)!
You will not have to register a new name or anything like that - the existing sites are just changing to allow for Sims 3 stuff too!
ModtheSims2 is now Mod The Sims aka modthesims.info aka MTSi. Sims2Community is now Sims Community aka sims-community.com. Sims2Wiki is now Sims Wiki. SexySims2 is now Sims Adult. Domain name changes are planned for many of the sites - existing links will all still work, and will just redirect so you don't need to change any links you have now.
New logo design contest!
Along with the changes to the new site names, we would like to give the sites a facelift in the form of shiny new logos! And seeing as it's been fun in the past to see what the incredible talent in the community can come up with, we would like to do it as a contest!
Logos should be done as a set - as the MTS sites function as a network rather than completely separately, we'd like them to have a cohesive theme. They don't have to be the same colours or design, just coordinating in some way. Traditionally, we've used blue for MTS2, green for S2C, grey for Sims2Wiki, and pink for SXS2 - but if you have a better idea, go for it!
Logos/Banners Needed:
Mod The Sims Logo: Full size should be no less than 500x500 but it should look good at 60x60 too. Large and small should be identical, just different sizes.
Sims Community Banners: 2 different versions needed: 940x130 banner and 297x50 banner. The two versions do not need to be identical but should coordinate.
Sims Wiki Logo - 150x150 pixels. Should either work well with the existing wiki pages in style/colour, or be a transparent .gif that will work on a white background.
Sims Adult Logo - Must be square, 400x400 pixels.
Extra Credit:
The following are not absolutely necessary, but matching ones in the same theme would be useful:
Matching 16x16 icons for all four sites.
Tabs for navigating to the different sites (see the top of the page for examples of the ones we use now) - 135x36, white, with no bottom border.
88x31 link buttons for all four sites.
Restrictions:
We would like you to be creative and come up with something really cool, within the following guidelines. We hope this will not be too restrictive, but we would like any logos/banners to be truly original artwork:
No use of the actual game fonts. Please choose another font which can be freely used - please check the license on the font if you're not sure.
No use of sims or other in-game graphics in the logos/banners.
No use of plumbobs in the logos/banners.
No use of any graphics from the game itself (such as thought bubble icons, career icons, etc.) in the logos/banners.
If your designs are chosen:
Your designs will be used on the MTS Network as our logo for a period of at least one year - probably longer!
You can use a larger avatar size.
You get a larger PM inbox.
Your choice of a one-time custom title change.
Your choice of a free tee CafePress shirt, mug, or mousepad with your MTS design on it - you'll get the first one ever!
How to submit:
1. Create your graphics. Make sure you create your graphics at a higher resolution than needed so they can be sized down to fit the sizes needed. Build your graphics at at least 2000 pixels on the long side, so they can be used for CafePress items!
2. Upload your graphics to an online host. Photobucket, Flickr, etc. will work, or you can upload to modyourpanties.com without registering.
3. Create a new post on this thread, and use the img tag to put your images in your post.
4. Make sure to keep a copy of your layer-separated Photoshop, Paint Shop, GIMP, etc. documents - we will need your original layer-separated documents if your designs are chosen!
Thanks for reading!
Regards
Delphy

Whew, that's a relief! Thanks for taking this on, I know it'll be yet more work. We'll see if TS2 submissions / downloads drop off or not, time will tell. I'm hoping some folks will still play and download. ;)

This sounds really cool, I guess the restrictions are quiet restrictive but they actually prevent all desgins to be a plumbub, so they're reasonable :)
How much time do we have to make our entry?

20th Jan 2009, 11:37 PM
Taniia, it's actually more of a legal thing since the reason that Cafepress removed all the MTS2 stuff was that EA Legal complained about some of the things in the logo that where from the game. So by not having anything from the game they can't get it removed... hopefully. :)
I'm going to provisionally say that you have 1 month from the date of this thread (so, until the 20th February 2009).

Okay, so this is going to be different. I know I won't be getting the Sims 3 any time soon though, as I have just started Sims 2!
I know this may sound like an idiotic question, but when will these changes take place? Would that be about a month from now, like when the banners and such are being chosen?

Yay... this might be something I actually can do well on! I'm not that good at designing sims 2 stuff, but, I'm very artistic when it comes to this kinda stuff.... designing, drawing, etc.
Oh, I have a fast question, reguarding the sizes of the logo.
It states to make them at least 2000 px on the long side, so, am I understanding this correcly: You'd change
500X500 [for mod the sims] into 2500X500 or would you keep it square and go 2500X2500?

I am reliefed that the site goes on and Sims2 are not pushed aside for Sims3. There are people like me who are not able to run Sims3 on their Computers yet and as any poor little student not able to get one that matches Sims3 standards.
So I think I will stay with my Sims2 for sometime longer and hope that there will be still downloads and chats in the community available.
So thank you!!

Make it square - in other words, 2000x2000, or 2500x2500, for the actual logo part, but obviously the banners would be seperate.
For example, the logo on the top left is square, but the actual banner including the text is rectangular.
Hope this clarifies things.
Really? I'm glad I got my mouse mat when I had the chance then! *pets MTS2 mouse mat*
Yup - those previous items are now rare and limited in number since only a few hundred of each where actually sold!
This is excellent news I've been forlornly wondering where I would go when this site closed down!
I never actually said it was closing down though ;)
Will there be a section for the sims 1 perhaps?
Most likely not. We'll have enough to do to make up FAQs and tutorials and so on on the Sims 3 - there is already enough info out there about the Sims 1 that we don't need to go back.
What a wonderful idea! Keep everything nice and together. Thank you, Delphy! I've wondered how this site will fare on February 16th, but this far exceeds even my hopes! :D
On a pseudo-unrelated note, when does the contest end?
According to the release dates here the Sims 3 isn't going to be out till March.
The contest ends on February 20th. :)

I have only uploaded the base images, the extras I am working on now. I am also planning on changing the Sims Adult, I am unhappy with it.

First of all, thank you for the great news. A sims community without MTS is not much of a sims community in my opinion. This is the most reliable source for information on how to create CC for The Sims 2 and now to continue this tradition into The Sims 3 is a major point of why I'm getting slightly tempted to buy the game.
However I'm just wondering (and please forgive me if this is a stupid question or asked in the wrong place) I've heard rumours that although one can costumize the textures in The Sims 3 there's currently no way of making new meshes or anything else for that matter (of coarse without the aid of the genious SimPE there would never have been one for this in The Sims 2 either) so do you know of any plans for making this a possibility? Sorry for asking this here, but just hoped you would know something about it since MTS is the site that have always seemed most up to date on these things.
Again thank you so much to the staff and everyone here for keeping the site alive!
(at Xacimo: I think the Sims Adult banner looks very nice indeed!)

Inge, I guess if it was you offering Sims 1 content then sure... :)
Ophelia,
However I'm just wondering (and please forgive me if this is a stupid question or asked in the wrong place) I've heard rumours that although one can costumize the textures in The Sims 3 there's currently no way of making new meshes or anything else for that matter (of coarse without the aid of the genious SimPE there would never have been one for this in The Sims 2 either) so do you know of any plans for making this a possibility? Sorry for asking this here, but just hoped you would know something about it since MTS is the site that have always seemed most up to date on these things.
You have to remember that neither the Sims 1 nor the Sims 2 came with any kind of mesh editor (or, indeed, any tool except Body Shop) at first. This is most likely to be the case with the Sims 3, in which case we'll just have to make our own (again).
Murphy93, sorry but that plumbob looks like it's taken straight from the Sims 3. Please see the first post for restrictions.
comcal, etc.
There are good starts but I'd like to clarify some things about what I want.
The current MTS2 site has 2 logos:
http://static.modthesims2.com/images/MTS2_Banner1.jpg
http://static.modthesims2.com/images/MTS2_Banner2.jpg
The first image was used on the cafepress mugs, but in this format:
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/4914_090121113624MTS2_Logo1_small.jpg
The second also had a square format too:
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/4915_090121113702MTS2_Logo2_Small.jpg
So what I'd like is for the "Logo" pare to be mostly graphical with perhaps the text overlaid on the bottom. The banners should be the logo + the name to the right.
Additionally, all MTS logos and/or banners should have the text "Create it. Share it. Play it." on them somewhere.
Regards
Delphy

21st Jan 2009, 5:00 PM
Well, since my banner-making abilities are currently being used elsewhere (and I'm not good enough to do two at once), I'll refrain from submitting a banner. :) I'm glad to hear that mts2 stuff will not change (or at least not much). I undoubtedly will not be getting Sims3 at all (first of all, because my comp probably can't even run it; second of all, because of the $$$ needed to get it). If I even did get it, I'd get it used, for a lot less $$$. And I would need to pay $$$ to get a better comp, which I'm not really interested in doing.
Regardless, what sort of plans for the Sims3 do you guys have? Considering how different it is from Sims2, that will make custom content much harder to produce, right?

http://mavrev.com/dev/design/concepts/modthesimsnetwork/modthesims_button.png
I have icon, tab, and button designs for the other 3 sites complete as well which can be found at http://mavrev.com/dev/design/concepts/modthesimsnetwork/.
Please, critique all you want - I'm open to suggestions or changes on these if anyone really thinks they're a good fit for the site. All the colors are changeable, I used the background color of the title bar (#6699cc) for the blue, and then chose corresponding red/pink, green, and grey shades. The icons are fairly uninspired I'll admit, but I couldn't think of any real good representations. The font used in all of these is Reznor Broken (http://www.dafont.com/reznor-broken.font) from dafont.com. The font is under public domain (at least as far as I know) because the author is unknown. All the images are alpha-transparent png's so if you're still using IE6 you'll see a grey block. I have layered, vector files of all of the logos, and their derivatives which I will provide if chosen.
Thanks for reading, and hope some of you like it.

This comes as a complete (but welcome) surprise, Delphy.
I’ve been busy moving all of my downloaded C.C. to one place in preparation of the “shutting down of the servers”, and the much-dreaded sporadic deletion of content. So, if my game crashes, at least I can still come back here and find the necessities.
As for the expansion concerning TS3, I find this to be quite wonderful news! Due to the rumors of SecuROM, DRM, and in-game ads, I am not certain if I shall buy TS3. However, if things start to look brighter, and if the creator tools that are said to be in the game really exist and function, than perhaps I will finally be able to create and contribute to the community!
I look forward to the expansion and will watch its progress with much interest. :)

Wow, this is indeed good news. I'm guessing it will be a lot easier to "just" add the Sims 3 content to the already existing sites, though I can imagine that's still a lot of work. It will be much appreciated by all planning to play Sims 3.
Thank you for such a great site!

I'm not sure if I will buy TS3, I really like TS2 because I have made alot of custom content for it, and if I have to remove it like we did when I had TS1 then I probably won't buy it. I will wait until a few months have passed to see what other simmers have to say about TS3.
I'm very happy to know modthesims2 will not close down. Yay, yay, yay. I love this site!!!!!!

As good as I think it is you are dedicating yourselves to make a Sims 3 website, I think you are just going to do what you did to Sims 2. The Sims 3 doesn't need any more stuff in it.

Keep in mind when TS2 came out it was believed that you couldn't create custom content for that either. It will probably be something people are going to have to mess around with for a bit before anything gets figured out.
I sure hope that isn't the case though because I think only being able to edit textures would gt boring quite fast.

When I heard about sims 3 I was superexcited.. playing sims 2 for only a short while and already beeing able to upgrade. however, sims 2 for a large part keeps exciting because of new custom content once in a while, the hacks etc. without them my perfect lil world wouldn't be so perfect, and many things i'd like wouldn't be possible. still.. i'm very curious to see it!
i wonder if sims 3 skins etc use the same template, it would be great if sims 2 skins can be converted to sims 3. i have some beautiful skins i wouldn't like to miss.

I too, would like to inquire about a possible TS1 section.
I first "discovered" the Sims when Unleashed was announced. I finally bought a copy one year later. I did not know that fan sites existed until Nightlife’s début....same with the ability to use cheats. I missed all the fun! And as I still have TS1 on my laptop and play it whenever I get the chance, I would simply love to have a TS1 section!

CormorantEnt + everybody else,
Here's a tip: don't put the text in the middle! I really don't like that look at all. It needs to be a logo and stand out on it's own - kind of like the 4 square + plumbob / ring of plumbobs idea.
Note that you could use a diamond instead of a plumbob. :) Just don't rip stuff from the game.

Vampire_of_Death, nothing that looks like a Sims plumbob. You could use a diamond with less vertical slices though.

I have to add my two cents in for a Sims 1 section as well. There are still some of us here and its really made me sad that so much of the How To of the game seems to be lost in the flow of time. I started poking my nose into modding shortly before getting Makin' Magic. I made a lot of walls and floors (now lost), one couch and a dress that could only be called a wasp-waist with a lot of horrible recolors. There is a lot of the time even now that Sims 2 seems overwhelming, and just wanting to get back to the simple games. (I still love SimTown and SimTower) There have been times that I have wanted to get back into Sim 1 modding if for no other reason than just the challenge but there is hardly anywhere to find those of similar mind.
Thank you Delphy and the Mod crew, from the bottom of my big heart, for giving us Simmers and Modders a home to gather in and feel welcome. I still remember the day I found MTS2 when I had been looking for the old Mod the Sims and I was blown away by how friendly the people were and how willing to share their knowledge and creativity. Even now, every day I still feel the same. There has never been a site that I have visited so regularly for anywhere near the length of time that I've been on Mod (other than my email). Thank you for giving so generously, you have truly enriched my life in more ways than I can imagine.
I am very pleased to know that Mod is going to be here for Sims 3. At the moment I'm not planning on getting it, mostly because I'm hardly anywhere near being done with Sims 2! I will look forward to seeing what the creators will come up with under the new game, knowing that Mod's high standards will continue. I remember that custom content for Sims 1 could really be hit or miss, and one reason why I cherish Mod so much because I don't have to worry about it.
Perhaps with luck we could celebrate a 10th anniversary together!

I have to say I like yours best from all the options that were posted recently, anhellica!
I'd say that we should not have such a shiny and glossy logo, it wouldn't really fit the sites' style. Did you ever notice that most of the very successful and popular pages as e.g. Google, Youtube or tripadvisor have very simple and plain logos and designs. In my opinion the more shiny and sleek a site is presented the less professional and creative is the idea behind it...
Just my opinion :D .
P.S.: I never found out how to make such glossy stuff. Even though I don't like it everywhere I'm interested with what programs you can make such effects.
I'd be glad about some tips!
sweetswami77
23rd Jan 2009, 6:07 PM
Jon, you can find 3D filters like that for PS, or you can make your own by stacking gradient layers and changing their transparency style and opacity. It takes some practice (and it doesn't always work the way you'd hope it would), but it's a good skill to have. (Comes in handy a lot more than you'd think.)
I agree with you on the logos. Especially scalable logos. Too much gloss can muddy up the design at smaller sizes. I've got some ideas, but I'll probably have to wait until next week to start on them.

Have you all heard:
Parsimonious and others who attended the Creator Week at EA have revealed that The Sims 3 is set to lack the capacity to import custom textures and meshes!!!!!!! It won't be built into the game.
So unless EA changes this in a later EP we will be stuck with the objects and clothes that EA gives us, and just the ability to recolour them using EAs supplied textures/patterns.lol, it may be more challenging, but them smart peoples like Dalfee will beat it into submission - after all, when TS2 came out, we could import custom meshes, textures, hacks etc. but we couldn't make them. All we had the tools to make were Bodyshop recolours and walls/floors.
We(they) did the rest our(them)selves. EAxis have always pulled the silly regarding custom content, in comparison to other companies.
Delphy
23rd Jan 2009, 6:46 PM
TickleOnTheTum: Yes, I've heard. And? :) We didn't have the ability to import custom meshes into the Sims 2 either and objects couldn't be done either.
So, I don't see that anything is really that different from the Sims 2 in this regard.
jon119 is correct about the logo - I dont want anything too fancy or glossy. Something simple is good. :)

Hello,
finally! I love modthesims without the 2 and wondered for years what the 2 would be good for when it comes to 3! Bye bye "2" :-).
I really love modthesims... it's the place I got to know downloads, it's the place where I learned recolouring, it's the place where I am going to learn meshing!
@delphy
one thing... did I get it right in your first post: you shortend modthesims to MTSi?
This doesn't sound right to me... cause i am used to mts... and as far as I read wcifinds... its almost mts already... why not stick to it... this site is just too important to be shortend with 4 letters!
I am looking really forward for the upcoming changes. And uhm... tsr showed how to now do it.
But I know here are the real gamelovers and I am convinced you'll make it much better :-). But be warned... I expect high quality, because... I am used to it here :-).
A big thank you to everyone making mts such a comftable, knowledge and quality sharing place. Go ahead!

TickleOnTheTum - They haven't said that, and if you read Kate's full report she actually indicates that they have said the opposite. They're not giving us the tools to do it but they believe we'll figure it out eventually, just as we did for TS2. It will just take some time and effort, but if the game's worth modding to that level, someone will figure out how.

This is good news; I'm really looking forward to TS3, and I'm very glad that this site will be expanding for it. I've been here for a while now (I'm a total leech, sorry. ;[), and I'd hate to see it slowly die out.
Is there systems requirements released yet or not?
im hoping my pc should handle it
Ive resantly upgraded the power supply and the graffics card to a GeForce 9600GT

Thanks for that, i wouldn't like MTS2 to die out aswell
I just noticed it said this At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content does that mean they will make some downloadable CC or we can make it, or is it like houses?
i just happened to notice it there.

I would imagine it's the same as the message you get when you install TS2 "The Sims 2 blahblah will install an extra X amount of space on Drive C:\ (or whichever), would you like to continue?" or however it's worded. I guess Maxis/EA might throw some of their own CC, but I'm sure it's as it has been - user created CC.
@Kweeky: Those look really well done, I like them, personally. For the adult one, is it against the rules to use the Woohoo icon in place of the heart?; or is that too comical? D:

YES!!! I love you guys!
I know there are rumors that say custom content won't be in TS3, but I also know that there are very smart people out there who know their way around stuff like that, and therefore, will bring us lots of awesome new downloads for this new branch of Sims!
I just hope they share tutorials with us because I'm hoping to stay on top of things and learn how to make stuff by myself this time around.
P.S. I'm going to go ahead and put in an early request for Mermaid tails, Centuar bodies, and Fairy wings. lol

Kweeky, I like those :) It might be better to shrink or remove the backgrounds, though, bearing in mind the size they'll be, and the fact that they'll have to form one end of a banner as well.

The heart illustration (as with all the illustrations in the logos) were done by me. Either way, if you want to avoid using the heart, I could do a different illustration.
All marks/copy will work at smaller sizes (and ofc in duotone, b/w and greyscale) I can provide these if necessary as well as 20x20 favicons etc... ;)
Just wanted to get a feel/feedback on the logos before making any other paraphernalia. :P

Okay, I'm working on some logos but I have a big quick question.
The restrictions state that we cannot use actual Sims in the logos. My question is, can I use a Sim in the Sexy Sims logo, like the way it is now? I was planning on making revamped and more simplistic versions of the current logos. The Sexy Sims logo was going to be like a more inviting, intimate scene.
:) Do you understand what I mean?

I love those design Kweeky!! :D They could work really well as favicons if you extracted the main image from each one, so the little people, the heart, pencil etc and had just that as the favicon, that would be awesome!

kweeky, I like the style. :) I'd like to ask that you:
- Add "Create it. Share it. Play it" to the ModTheSims logo
- Lighten the background colours somewhat (none of the sites have backgrounds that dark)
- Do up banner / small versions
I really do like the way you are going and I would like to see you continue with adding the rest of the images we need to see how they look. I like the "part of the mod the sims network" although this text should only go on the large 2000x2000 version (if you could fit it on the banner version that'd be great)
Also, keep the heart graphic - I like it.
Enigma_X, MTS does not allow requests and we will not allow them for the Sims 3 either. :)

I don't think you can use the plumbob image. Something about maxis getting on mts's case. I like the gears idea though. :) It doesn't look like it'd shrink too well because the text is too thin, though. I think you might go with a stronger, bolder font with a darker color. Make the create/share/play part larger as well, i think.
Edit: wow. I wonder what just happened a few posts back. reminds me of a few threads i've started.

I think best logos are clean, simple and minimal.
For mts, i begin thinking at a symbol, because I don't like gears symbol..it's too much "work in progress" and too much "operative stuff" (sorry for my english)
Gears seems to say "we are technical worker", BUT what I want it to say is "we are creative" or "here you can find creative ideas"
So, I thought at at the symbol of "creation" and "idea" par excellence, that is the bulb, the light.
My proposal:
http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/Black0rchid/Black0rchid_logomts_2.jpg
Below, my work in progress:
http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/Black0rchid/Black0rchid_logomts.jpg
(i don't know why image here in the forum is blurred, look at the image in photobucket)
http://s598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/Black0rchid/?action=view¤t=Black0rchid_logomts.jpg
Bulb is perfect also because we can use it as plumbob is used in game.
Bulb over a head, and over everything can mean that this thing is about mts.
users with bulb over head, are mts user, and so on.
And this symbol can be used as an icon everywhere.
Here in mts we have a bulb over head instead of a plumbob :)
I post my work in progress and my preference above, so you can see different positions. I can also change the font and colours, but first it was important to explain the concept.
Concept summary:
- symbol of "idea" and "creativity"
- unique symbol near text(clean and minimal) (like as TS, that has the plumbob symbol, unique, near text)
- symbol that can be used like plumbob, but with more meanings (creativity, ideas, new, mind, etc)

The theme is rebirth/new dawn/what have you. I kept in mind that the site already had a mild color scheme, so I used a mild color scheme for the logos. Rather than use complex or overbearing graphics, I decided to coordinate the sites each using a single letter. This method not only allows users to quickly identify a site just by the letter in the favicon or the logo (or color), but text is also infinitely scalable to any resolution without loss of quality. The parentheses are used as a guide - focusing the user's view on the letter used as the primary mark for each site. This would allow users to quickly learn which letter coordinates to what site.

I like the idea of kweeky for the heart for Sims Adult, but I think that also a red lamp can be very explicative, maybe similar to a "stop" sign..
but for a rational implementation, symbols near text must be all different or must be the same (with different color). In first case, bulb+modthesims, heart+simsadults, people+simscommunity, pen or something else + sims wiki.
In second case, blue bulb+ modthesims, redbulb+simsadults, green bulb+sims wiki, etc.
I prefer first case. Below I tried the first case all in blue, but it doesn't convince me. If you want, I try with different colours & symbols for each channels.

I really like the use of the bulb (as opposed to the gears) for the mark for MTS. As you say, gears are a little bit too "WIP". ;)
I do prefer your designs where you have used seperate illustrations for each site (the illustrations for community & adult are fantastic!) so I'd suggest going that route; builds a stronger identity for each site.
All in all awesome work!

i'm longing to the integration of Sims 3 on MTS, because, there can have many possibilities like normal map, and hight poly meshes. that's more interesting for me, because I find too difficult to work in low poly count...
I thought, we have to own a new mascot for the site, it's the best way to be highlighted inside the community of simmers...

In the U.S. areas where promiscuous individuals and/or sex workers can be found are sometimes referred to as "red light districts" so that also works well with your concept, although Delphy wants you to do different symbols. I really like your approach!

I know some members will get the Sims 3, it is a whole new ball game than sims 2 it is not a expansion pack but separate. From all that I have read about the Sims 3 you will lose control over your whole neighborhood Like when you are in one sims household they may be young or adult while you are there, but if you go to another household that last sims household you just left may be Elders when you go back and other words they will continue to age . Unlike Sims2 you as the player will lose a certain amount of control of your sims in Sims 3. Me, myself and I do not think I would want that. But each to it own I guess, lol Hope you all will have plenty of RAMS on your Pc. Delphy and the Staff thanks for keeping us on top here with the many changes, and for keeping the site upgraded :) "Black Orchird" you have my vote I really like your presentation Simple, clean and cute. :turtle:

Love looking at all the logo ideas :) I'm very taken with the mascot, I have to say, but they're all great!
Simonut, you don't have to worry about losing control; there's an option to turn off universal aging.

BlackOrchird, I really like your designs - but I think I prefer having different images to the left rather than just different colour bulbs - but I do love the idea of the bulb instead of a plumbob! Can you do a version of the MTS logo with the "Create it, share it, play it" in a slightly less bold font?
http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/Black0rchid/Black0rchid_logomts_7.jpg
I do prefer the payoff in bolder, because logo itself is "fat", and none of outlines are thin. All black outlines are about 2-3 px thick: text can't be thinner, if we want a graphic "balance". But it's partly subjective.

Hi guys! I'm just loving all these logos. So many great artists in the community!!
I thought I'd try my hand. I did a couple mock-ups tonight, and, Delphy, I was hoping to get some feedback on them before I go any further. (I did them by hand in Illustrator and Photoshop, so they took quite a bit of time. I'd hate to do the whole set and find out you don't like them.) ;)
I chose to use the wooden man model for a couple reasons. One, because there's one in the game, and I thought it would tie in nicely without infringing on EAxis proprietary rights. (Seriously, those things are everywhere, so they'd have a hard time claiming that anyhow.) And second, because they are widely used by artists during the process of creation, and since creation is what MTS is all about, I thought it was a natural fit.
The textures and images are all mine, so there's no copyright in danger of being violated. The font is called "Nilland", and it is free for public use. Any and all elements can be scaled, changed or deleted, and I can (and plan to) do more poses like those from the game. Suggestions from everyone are welcome!

I plan on continuing this motif with the rest of the sites' logos, so let me know if there's anything you'd like me to change, add, or scrap.
Thanks, Delphy!!

BlackOrchid, Hrm, okay yeah you are right - the less bold "Create" text doesn't work well with the other parts of the logo. Thanks for obliging me on this one though :)
Love the hamster! :)
sweetswami77, nice images, but for for me the text at the bottom blends in too well with the blue background, so it's a little hard to read. I prefer the one with multiple smaller diamonds though.
Here's a challenge for everybody (just a thought I had in my head):
Take the mascot idea, and combine it with either gears or the lightbulb. Have the mascot sitting on/leaning against/resting on the gear/bulb and see how that turns out?

for the name of the mascot, I have few ideas, perhaps Modsy :| , but I think it's the job of the community too

Not sure about that, from what I have read the aging off and on will not apply to Sim3. All the cheats you use in Sims2 will become useless in Sim3 from what I have read So I do not know if this is so or not I only read this, that EA have did a whole new files thingee on Sims 3. Take the mascot idea, and combine it with either gears or the lightbulb. Have the mascot sitting on/leaning against/resting on the gear/bulb and see how that turns out?
personally I disagree.
A logo must be simple and neat for recognizability. Combining two elements or more than one symbols, we run the risk to create something complex for who views it, something that eyes detect in a difficult way, unless we stylize them a lot.
Considering that mts logo has IMAGE+TEXT+PAYOFF, we have already 3 elements: I wouldn't make a complex image that mess up the readability.
IMAGE
gears, bulb, mascot:
I've already expressed my opinion about gears.. they are too "wip" and old. Gears recall old concepts. who works like me in design or web design certainly remembers the enormous use of that symbol everywhere, to mean "coding", "work in progress", etc, in old websites. It's a symbol I consider overworked. Also mascot is used everywhere (msn, etc) but I like blendy mascots (good work blendy!), they are a cute idea, but they are layouts, not a logo yet. So for mts logo we can use mascot+text+payoff, if preference is mascot, but pay attention at this:
a web-community logo is, for the 80% of cases, visualized in a small or very small dimension, like the banner here at the top. Sometimes is visualized in micro-banners that reproduce only the symbol + microtext.
Constrain blendy's layouts in a such of small sizes could spoil their beauty, for the way they are built (3d style). For a logo that has a priority use in web, it's better begin creating in small and after pass to high res. Working with small size guarantee a good return on web: not all images created big can be reduced well (sometimes they become less recognizable, try to reduce the Mona Lisa at 40x40px :) )
TEXT
Text should be not binded by background, and preferably external to symbol (but this is subjective)
But it would be better that logo could stay on various background, for future uses, or for different banner uses
CONSIDERATIONS:
In my opinion, best results can be reached with:
bulb+text+payoff
mascot+text+payoff. (with mascot created in small)
If the wish is to create a mascot+bulb, symbols must have same style (or both in 3d as blendy's or both in vector as mine, or pixelart/glossy/whatever) and very stylized
Personally, I told above, I don't like both symbol, so, take freely my idea and bulb for experiment with new design.
Bulb is an idea that can have potentially varied uses ("replacing" the plumbob), for this reason it convinced me. As plumbob recall TheSims wherever you put it, as the particular "stress" recall "nike" wherever you put it, as this particular blue bulb could recall mts wherever you put it.
The symbol itself could live alone, or over something also different from modthesims text.
@kweeky: yes, illustrator and photoshop :)
P.S. sorry if my way of speaking seems raw, but it's difficult for me writing well this concepts in english. Here in italy my job colleagues told me that when I speak english i am brutal :D

I absolutely LOVE Black0rchid's designs, but I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents:

I realize they're not quite as "shiny" as some of the others, but I believe they are very graphic (in a good way). <3

I have to agree with BlackOrchid. I tried fitting the mascot and bulb/gears together in some images last night, but they all look virtually unrecognizable at 60x60. Delphy, since you seem partial to BlackOrchid's lightbulb idea (which IS brilliant--no pun intended), I tried a simple version of my own in Illustrator. It looks good at 60x60, too, but I have a question--do you want the type included in the 60x60 icon?

Personally, no disrespect to anyone else, I believe that blendy has the best idea. It's clean, pleasing to the eye, creative, and has, more than any others, the possibility of flexibility. Despite all this, everything else just wasn't working. So, since no one else did it, I did it myself. Included are new fonts, tag lines (minus ModtheSims), banners, icons, etc. So I present, by I'mSimalicious!:Blendy Homage 1. I hope you enjoy it. (Just a few notes : Because I tried to bring MST to modern times, I used modern fonts. The font being used is Redhead Goddess and can be found at http://www.1001freefonts.com/redheadgoddess.php. As you can see, our mascots have a little pet, companion if you will. While still nameless, its species is diamond, NOT plumbob ;) . I had origionally tried to make some diamonds for a logo but it then I saw the competition  . So when I started to edit blendy's work, I decided to bring in the diamond I created. Everything is saved as layered PSD's, with no rasterized text. Again, everything, other than the mascots, are created by me!

Oh wow, so much changes. I was wondering why sims2community changed to sims-community. Thought the domain was somehow expired/bought from another person hah, turns out it redirects.
Cheers to the sims 3 hopefully lots of people will create sims 2 stuff as I don't see myself upgrading my computer to reach sims 3's standards.
