View Full Version : Who's your favourite housebuilder?

Now, because I can't build for nothing, I download all the houses and community lots for my custom neighbourhood. I have just one favourite builder and use their lots exclusively - The faboulous Plasticbox over at ModtheSims2.
http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=178282
The lots are mainly compact with a few large ones, always gorgeous and nicely playable and appropriately landscaped. You can choose between Urban and Suburban lots and this creator has made a neighbourhood that is fabulous!

I have so much love for this creator. So I wondered, who do you have much love for?

oh wow! when i saw this thread title, the first builder i thought of was Plasticbox! i have the coolest downtown because of his cool creations and how they fit together.
I also love trntstr4 over at the OTHER sim site. his Maple Lane series is just great among a lot of other unique lots.
for mansions and such, i like Skye at SterlingDT site along with the creators there.

Well of course plasticbox -- I love how simple and playable his lots are, and I love the mini-lots like the kiosk and the bus stop. Great for filling up those tiny little spaces between houses.
I also really like simsconnection (http://www.simsconnection.com)'s lots, the best ones are pay but there are some really great ones in the free area too. Erm... I like CokeBuilder (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=671691)'s and Jonesi (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=95035)'s lots, and Spongeeh (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=279781) doesn't have many uploads but I really like what she's done so far.
I'll probably be back to add to this post, there are so many builders I love. ^^

Plasticbox, plasticbox, plasticbox.
Also, plasticbox, and plasticbox.
(And jhd1189 <3)
And also, of course, let us not forget... plasticbox
(Seriously though, they're the only lots I download. They're amazing. I love all the details and the realism and the fact that they remodel so pretty if I wanna go with a different style, and they're all totally playable and usually not too huge, and often have basements, which I still can't manage to build myself evar.)

tut! Hysterical.... you dont know how to do basements? my favourite builder is...hmm..me! All other builders dont seem to cut the mustard for me and well no offence to plasticbox but i find his lots.... boring!

Ive come to learn that I hate hate HATE basements. So I dont download any lots with basements. Ever. Anymore. And I dont like furnished lots either. Im very picky on how I decorate, so I tend to stick to unfurnished houses when downloading.
But to answer the question... My favorite house builder would have to be Nengi65 formerly at MTS2, now at Sims Crossing (http://www.simscrossing.net/). She has remained my inspiration for years and years.

oh boolpropped... why do you hate basements? Is it cause they flood in veronaville?

I also hate basements. I hate that the camera angle doesn't go down as far as usual, but it doesn't stop me from downloading a house just because it has one. I'll just fill it in.
My favorite builder would have to be plasticbox because the houses are cheap, user-friendly, ready to play, and very editable. And, of course, boolPropped's houses. I download them as fast as possible once they're up :).

I love plasticbox, he uses very few eps, so it works even for me. I only have base game and ofb, but I can download almost all of his houses (nightlife items just don't show up).
I only delete the basement because I never furnish them and hate them.

Woohoo! Go Jonesi! :P
Hehe, I love her work! Especially when i'm feeling kind of too lazy to build a house.
Plasticbox's stuff is good, but it's abit too simple for me as well.

Before I build lots, I always downloaded Plasticbox's homes. They were a perfect size for my PC. (Which was horrible before I got a new one) They were very playable and yet 'stylish'. Now I really don't download houses, I just make them. Hehe. :)

I must say MistyBlue...this is her website (http://www.vjdevelopment.com/), ModernCreation1 (http://thesims2.ea.com/mysimpage/pod.php?user_id=2450728) @TS2 exchange, of course, the lovable Nengi (http://www.simscrossing.net/)...lol, and haksenhauser (http://haksenhausen.pimp-my-sims.com/) has some good, cute nice sized lots.
I like variety and lots that have a good floorplan. I don't like big and bulky lots mainly because my laptop cannot play them well and plus it lags horribly ;).

I also like lots from plasticbox. I don't like basements either, but his lots are realistic and nice.
Further I prefer lots from seren (http://modthesims2.com/member.php?u=727130) and Larsson1970 (http://modthesims2.com/member.php?u=114056) and other creators of the whole sims2 world. ;)

I like Corvidophile's latest houses best for playability (is that a word?). I like Nengi's and eedgan's houses but I always have to move things around go get things the way I like.

I love jhd1189 (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=93409). Sometimes, I just love furnished lots because I get sick of my own style. These lots take my game to new places, which makes it much more fun.

I don't have a favorite - but I am enjoying plasticboxes city houses - because they are small and playable and that's exactly what I'm looking for. Most small houses are quite broing, but he makes them very well. There are tons of good creators out there, but some of the houses, specially most of the medivel castless are very nice and pretty but 90% of them are huge buildings on huge lots. My computer would faint from exhaustion if I'd even suggest putting them in my game.
musiquefille_SC
4th Nov 2007, 10:05 PM
I know what you mean ani_. I think the best creators are the ones who take into account playability as well as aesthetics and uniqueness. Plasticbox is great at that, but so are many others. When I build, though mine aren't masterpieces or anything, I always measure my building skills in those three ways: how playable is this, does it need all the extra things i put in/or huge lot or could it be just as good if it were smaller? Is it interesting to look at, has it been done too many times before? I love using popular builders to find ways I can improve myself, so I only really download lots when they look like they have something very different that I can learn from.

Wolfsim68 (http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/booty/tsr/wolfsim68/)! The Isle of Thyme is about 70% WolfSim. Charming, playable, cottagey. Totally gives Thyme it's quaint feel. Plus, her interlocking community lots are so cool!
Take a gander:

I'm also a big fan of Wolfsim68 (Shaz) at TSR. Her hoods and houses are so lovely and all Maxis Content.
I adore Plastic Box. :) I've found his/her lots a little difficult to play with out a camera mod though. It's those basements. I loathe basements.

I prefer plasticbox (like many others, lol) and anything from VJ Development. I love their houses, love that MistyBlue's houses come fully furnished. I hate to have to spend time furnishing a house before I can play the sims I put in it. I mainly got for playability. I hate having to scroll back and forth across the screen just to get to the bathroom or the bedroom or whatever, and I hate having to go up three floors, then scroll to the far left just to send a sim to bed. Smaller lots fit my playstyle better. I love Misty's houses because they have the downtown feel I love. Being a city girl all my life, I love that city feeling. Misty and Plasticbox help my sims get that city feeling, too!

Plasticbox (anyone getting tired of hearing her name?!) I like the size/simplicity and lack of CC. I hate when you see a nice house ... and nice long list of CC that you have to donwload for any of it to work. I tend to make a lot of my own houses to because i'm so fussy.
Anybody know another artist similiarish to plasticbox i could try?

I adore Plasticbox's neighborhoods. They are just neat as a pin and adorable to boot. Some of their larger houses make fabulous legacy homes. I do loathe basements due to large families getting stuck on the stairs and missing their work/schools.

I love Nazariopilar's houses. They have the modern look I love. Also Seren, Jonesi and Nengi65. Their houses have interesting "nooks and crannies" that I like. My own houses always turn out very boxy and square, but without the sleek sophisticated vibe...:(
Oh, yeah, and Christine 11778 - I love her custom content and the "girliness" of her houses.
And, DarkestBlue, do you have a link to MistyBlue's houses? I'd like to look at them.

Plasticbox (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=178282). (We may need a thread entitled "Who besides Plasticbox is your favorite housebuilder?") I use Middleground, Baskerville, and the complete Backdoor Lane series (<- installed on Loverat's Dinky Downtown (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=118669) terrain).
Wolfsim68 (http://www.thesimsresource.com/artists/Wolfsim68/). The community lots come together into a beautiful upscale shopping district. Lovely, functional, no cc. I haven't found the perfect neighborhood terrain for them yet, but that's mostly because I refuse to give up dimsim78's Newhaven Seaside Village (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=233819) terrain.
Very honorable mentions:
* Pimp My Sims (http://www.pimp-my-sims.com/) <-- My first downloaded lots, introduced me to the pleasures of playing non-Maxis houses.
* loco-plus (http://loco-plus.xrea.jp/) <-- I dropped a dozen mortgage shrubs onto S-Type23 to make it affordable as a University rental because it was too small for my normal style of play. The lighting effects between the pool and the walls/floors were magical. Sadly, the shrubs could not be trimmed.

But I lack imagination so I'll be posting pics of it here to get feedback :P

Aside from the obvious (Plasticbox, Jonesi, Nengi...), I am officially in love with the 99 Forum Paks (http://n99forumpaks.djssims.com/) site. Oh my god, they have some of the best city lots I've ever seen! I adore the Rags-to-Riches theme, and they have some excellent lots (like the police station!) in their Hood Project. And the best part is, a lot of their lots have minimal custom content!

Hey everyone! Simsane is waving hi! I don't really know where to post this question, but this thread seemed like the best place to ask. A friend of mine and I were talking about Featured Lots and the lots that get some kind of award. I mean on MTS2. Does anyone know who chooses or what criteria must be met to become a Featured Lot or even one of the lesser titles? I know that none of mine will ever be featured or get any of the other types of titles, but I was still curious how one does go about getting any of the titles? Is it the number of downloads within a specific time period? The number of thanks? Just curious.

Downloads on MTS2 are featured at the discretion of the MTS2 mods. Read more about it in the creator guidelines (http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Featured_Content_Criteria) for that site.

I once made an entire neighbourhood with stuff by Plasticbox and in the neighbourhood screen it looked fantastic, just like a real urban neighbourhood would. However, it made my game run soooooo slowly it was virtually unplayable. I was gutted as it looked so brilliant.

I think the basement hate is funny. To get rid of a basement in a downloaded house, all you have to do is delete the internal walls and flatten the terrain. You don't even really have to replace the foundation.
But my favorite is plasticbox, for small, playable layouts and creative starters.

I mainly use Larrson 1970's lots for my residential homes. I usually rebuild them on a smaller lot (2x2- 2 bedroom starter or 2x3- 3/4 bedroom houses), as I prefer smaller, more realistic lots. I have recently downloaded some of his beach lots, but have not yet installed them to see if I need to rebuild them to better suit my style. I usually tear down the interior walls of the houses, and redesign. My fave thing about these lots is the fact bthat they are unfurnished. Although it can take several hours to properly decorate and furnish a house, my lots all reflect the individuality of the sim/family living there. Downloading unfurnished lots saves a lot of time.
I do like Plasticbox's houses, although they don't match the Larrson1970 ones, so I rarely use them. I did download the Baskerville neighborhood, and loved it.
