FR, we all know Castor's a Family sim in disguise. ;) That's interesting that he's a Pleasure sim though. All my sims with that asp break down as soon as they have kids because they aren't fulfilling any kiddie-related wants, and generally ignore their sproglets. For shame.

Pleasure/Knowledge to be precise. So technically not a family sim in there, but he still acts like one sometimes :P Heck, he rolls wants to go learn parenting skills and things like that (and frequently rolls wants for puppies and kittens, he's just a bit softie).
No about the only thing is that he doesn't like changing diapers, he rolls fears for those. But then, who does? :P

It looks like more a dresser to me than a closet. lol Does it make sense? I think it's just the same. Yea it's really cool and hilarious. The sounds they make when they do that always crack me up.

It's easier to win a community lot cookery competition rather than the one on the Secret Hobby Lot.
I entered the same dish in both, but I lost to the Hobby Leader at the Clubhouse. I stormed the Community Lot one, though!

I believe (though could be wrong) that the newspaper will always give you the base level job in the field, but the computer takes the skills into account and offers one lower than the sim is qualified for.

I realized how unrealistic the female bodies are in Sims.
I always kinda knew since they're all the same size and shape, lol. But today I went into CAS, and, on a whim, decided to look at the fat morphs on all my custom clothes. I was very pleasantly surprised. Many of them were identical to the normal shape only with a slightly larger waist and hips (making them more realistic), but some were very voluptuous, with large bust, waist, and hips, but still very nice. I then looked back at the normal meshes and they looked almost skeletal in comparison. I'm seriously tempted to make all my female sims fat from now on.
I have no idea if it's the same for the males, I plan on looking at them later today.
meggie272
31st Jan 2009, 11:33 AM
^^
Yes, when I started playing the Sims I made them all skinny etc. Then I was in CAS and I made one of my girls fat, expecting to see a genuinely overweight person...and I saw a lady with rounder breasts, more voluptious (sp?) waist and hips, and not really fat at all, just not skinny!
Hmmm. That is definitely shying away from reality, EA.

I like how different creators make their meshes differently- it makes for a lot more variety in body types. Just opened up sims, I wonder how the males will fare...

Check out Marvine's bodybuilder meshes.... Males fare very nicely with those.
Otherwise the women tend to get the best stuff.

-I discovered that adults can lecture teens when they wet themselves. I've seen them lecture babies (which is real wtfery), but never anyone older.
-The firetruck will still come to an apartment complex even if there isn't a fire alarm. Attentive neighbors?
-My sims all evacuated the burning apartment instead of dancing around it!! And no one knew fire safety!! There was like 7 sims on the spiral staircase, lol. Oh, and people from the floors below left the building as well. How... normal!!

Maxis programmers do not pay close attention to detail. Well I already knew that. I was having issues with the Goth house, so I decided to move the family to another lot. I didn't want to take the tombstones with me, so I moved them all to a cemetery I made on a community lot. As soon as I moved them, all these messages popped up with "Cornelia has died on another lot" etc. and Mortimer got a second memory of his parents dying, and just walked around weeping for about a day. You would think that moving remains to a cemetery would not be as bad as the person dying! But then having food dropped on you also results in a red memory, so who knows...

melethana - I learned that the hard way a few days ago, too! My poor sims that inhabit my nursing home are repeated traumatized.
Elders seem to have an open invitation to just wander onto my lots and start using the ballet bar or the chess board. My husband seems to think that it's Maxis way of simulating senility. (If that's the case, I think it's kind of mean.)

If you have Free Time, and a Sim with "Family" aspiration (and the ability to make Grandma's Comfort Soup), you can invite people over for a Grandma's Comfort Soup party. Serve a meal of the soup, and choose the "Call to Meal... Houseguests" and most, if not all, of them will sit down and be cured as soon as they eat some.
ETA: THere's not actually a "Grandma's Comfort Soup Party" option, just in case that was confusing. Just invite people over, or throw a party, whichever, in the normal way then serve the soup.

Imagine my guilt and amusement when I used it at the Subject household and by the end of the toddler stage (I used aging off for a while there), Circe had paid out nearly $2,000 in child support payments (Her and Nervous have twin girls and since the girls live with him, she had to pay.) LOL

I think there's game coding that makes Mary-Sue catch Daniel cheating...even if he isn't...
I recently started with a fresh install and am now playing all the Pleasantview familes rotationally. I wanted to keep the Pleasants all happy-like. As always happens when I play their first day, Mary-Sue gets fired so she comes home early. Kaylynn was, in fact, in the house. But she was in the upstairs bathroom while Daniel was watching TV, and all of a sudden I hear the >boing< noise of someone getting caught cheating. Mary-Sue had been home for probably half an hour by then. There was NOTHING that could have been construed as cheating, unless she somehow developed mind-reading powers.
So weird, but now I have a furious couple that I don't want to split up. Stupid Maxis coding...
Of course, I guess there are two ways I could avoid this: not let Kaylynn stay when she's finished cleaning and/or ignoring Mary-Sue's chance card. But I'm sure it'd >boing< anyway, somehow.

I thought I was crazy, but this has happened four times - so Mercury Newson (The oldest female Newson's kid in Belladonna) is in college and his kid sister calls him at a pretty late hour for a kid (usually between 10:30 and 11:30pm). And they end up talking for a pretty short period, and right when it ends his MOM shows up! It's like she's warning him or something because apparently their mum can come in without greeting and all she does is bug Mercury - hug, play, chat, congratulate, repeat, repeat, repeat until 3-4 am.
I thought it was a coincidence, but 4 times? They didn't happen all at once either, the first 3 were during freshman year, and then the fourth in Junior year, right after he declared a major.
Has this ever happened before to anyone else???

If you greet a random walkby you have never met and have no interest in, then immediately influence them to write your term paper, they will finish it before telling you that you have been a bad host and they are packing their bags and leaving early. That's not early. Leaving before the term paper was finished would have been early!

lg135, I think that happens because the game treats the phoning kid as though he is on the lot so the parent is sent to take them home. When they arrive there is no child to collect so they end up staying.

With Mary-Sue furious with both Daniel and Kaylynn (though making serious headway back to HappyLand with Daniel), the Pleasant house it...tense...right now.
I had Mary-Sue and Daniel pleasantly sleeping in bed...actually sleeping, nothing going on, when Kaylynn shows up for her daily cleaning. And suddenly the >boing< goes off and Kaylynn feels she's being cheated on. Stupid sims.
Anyway. I was getting tired of this, so I was going to have Mary-Sue fire Kaylynn, but I noticed a new option on the pie menu: Buy off for §50. When I chose it, Mary-Sue went over and gave Kaylynn the money and a message popped up from Kaylynn saying something like "Okay, okay, I'll leave you alone. For now." And she went away.
It was...odd.

I discovered yesterday you can have se....I mean you can woo hoo in the car :D and I had Night life for how long?>_>
I don't think it's an actual code in the game. When I played the Pleasant family for the first time (that is, 2007), I made Kaylynn stay, and being a beginner, I made Daniel flirt and kiss Kaylynn. Mary Sue came home and got mad at Daniel and slapped him repeatedly. So, I made Daniel kiss and make up with Mary Sue, but that caused Kaylynn to become angry and slap him too. :( So, I left the game unsaved. The second time I played the Pleasant family, I made a different choice: I dismissed Kaylynn the maid. She caused too much trouble, and she would be better off with Don Lothario, the other guy who loved her. From the start, I knew the family was in bad shape, so I made Daniel and Mary Sue have a third child and hopefully this child will have good relationships with EVERYONE. The third child did!
When window appeared saying what M-S should do at work?I clicked ignore, this way she stayed at work. Daniel and Kayleen Woohoo'd in peice she left. When M-S came home they woohoo'd as well. I was planing on 3rd child aswell to be honest >_> never got around about it.

I discovered sims that are just in your 'hold box' (you know on the main screen, waiting to get put in the game?) can appear in the game, even though they don't have a house yet.
I was playing one of my families, and the son, Edmund brought a friend home from school. I was hoping it was one of my gals from another family (I have eventual plans to get them together as adults). Nope, it was the daughter of a family I made just to mess around with the genetics...(the family was in the family box on the main neighborhood screen).

I have noticed my cowplant victims getting smarter since I installed AL. It's quite frustrating when the entire reason I've invited them over is for them to be eaten, and the darn thing just sniffs at them and then leaves them alone. The only way I can get it to work now is to cheat and make them selectable and actually TELL them to take the cake, and then leave them selectable while they do it. It doesn't seem to want to eat unselectable visitors anymore.

Cowplants won't eat a sim whose hygiene is too low. I put a hot tub out near the cowplant, so its victims will get themselves nice and clean for it. I don't know if that is the only factor.
I wonder if AL adjusted the cowplant to avoid eating unselectable sims to protect the roommates? I know if you put a gate in the SS lot all the SS members happily feed themselves to the cowplant.

If you take a pet to a community lot other strays are allowed to show up.
I found this yesterday after building a new park and getting a family to test it out. I got them to take their dog along and as soon as they arrived two stray cats appeared. I thought something was broken as I know the code was changed to stop strays on comm lots. By the time they left there were 3 cats and 4 dogs on the lot and everyone was interacting with them.
If I visit comm lots without pets though no strays turn up.

He will die eventually hopefully of old age. The cheat death is when your sim does something foolish like repairing a computer with one mechanical point or starving in front of the fridge. the Grim Reaper comes and a loved one can plead for their lives. No, it can glitch that way too. Way back when I just had the base game, and didn't use custom content at all I had two incidences. Once, the mother just kept giving birth. Singles after singles after singles. I had to forcefully shut the game down to make it stop. The other time I wound up with quadruplets when it spawned twins twice. Having lived through those convinced me never to download the triplets and quads hack (those of you with it: you people are nuts!).
So it's not supposed to (and it doesn't rule out a hack), but you never know what glitches will do to your game. :)

You can click on the UFO when it returns the abductee and it'll give you the option to "Welcome Home!" Which was nice since my sims are stupid and instead of using the second staircase when the first was full, that I built for just this purpose, they stood at the top whining and dropped the action from the queue. And I actually wanted her to go welcome her husband home (she'd just been abducted two nights earlier and had to congratulate him on joining the ranks...yay knowledge sims!).

That you cannot interact with your neighbor's toddlers. I have two ladies living next to each other, and I wanted them to be friends. And if you visit your friend's house and theres a baby, of course you go and cuddle it, but the lady had no interactions with the toddler. She only had the possibility to join when the toddler was dancing to the radio.

The secret hobby lots can become quite amusing, though. I discovered there were two Drama professors who were members at a music and dance lot. And a married couple with 3 lightning bolts for each other were also randomly there. I had my sim meditate in a corner and watch the ensuing drama with avid interest. The couple would make out, get slapped by the professors, argue with them, go make out again, and eventually started fighting them. And winning. It got really interesting when my sim influenced one of the professors to flirt with the guy's wife...
If they show up to kick the trash can or steal the paper, they are going to be in for a nasty surprise.

Today I discovered that a Sim kid can be fried to death!
Maybe it's old news to many of you, but I am still in terrible shock. An hour ago little Kojima was sitting on the couch studying cooking with his brother and his uncle sitting next to him. There was fire lit (it was snowing outside) and next moment the couch is on fire, the kids screaming terrified, the uncle and both parents trying to extinguish the fire but some sparkle seems to follow poor Kojima when he run away (as I directed him to do). To make it short, the little kid was literally fried. Fortunatelly, one of his parents was able to plead for his life and beat Grim Reaper. I couldn't believe it! :(

i found that out yesterday but didn't have time to post it...lol.....Well here is my weird thing of the day ......Well i had this couple....(It was Dina and Lucien) and they had just got married......Lucien being like his dad (Who including lucien had 22 kids....) loves kids and didn't mind Dina having four kids by a now dead mortimer.....So dina was like "I want to adopt a poor little child that needs a already crowded house" so i called and adopted.....Next day comes and My new little girl is here. Here name is Lucy. I was so excited to finally have a pretty child sim.....So i was like "Let's just see how i am doing with my family tree" I look at my family tree and guess what? Lucy aint related to Lucien....So i was like "WTF?!?!?!?!" I check out who the father is and it is Dina's first husband Micheal.......Can anyone tell me how this is? I have been playing dina on and off since i got the game. I aint mad just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them at all so I will know i aint alone in this abnormality

The same happens with brothers and sisters who love and care for each other. Once I had two teens and when the boy's girlfriend asked him to break up, his sister went mad, her relation with the girl dropped below zero right away and she started poking her. Before that, the two girl's relation was near 100.

This will tell everyone how much attention I don't pay...I discovered the grilled cheese aspiration yesterday....
All because my husband asked me a dumb question, "Have you ever completed a Sim game?" Took me a few minutes to sort out that he meant actually play a sim through a life cycle. He's convinced that all I do is mean things to them and kill them off. That question was followed by "Do you have a sim you haven't killed off yet?"
~ I spend more time building things than I do playing the game.
~ I like putting together music videos using the sims.
~ I like setting up weird things to happen where I can write tabloid like stories about it all.
Oh, and then there was that entire thing a couple years ago with me creating a sim of Myspace Tom Anderson just to kill him off, make a video of it, and post it to myspace. I made several of those and Tom started posting bulletins through it all stating that he wasn't dead. Strangely those bulletins stopped when my videos stopped. Coincidence?
Anyway, none of these things requires me to play a sim through a life cycle. So, I decided to finally take the Legacy Challenge and I discovered the grilled cheese aspiration.
My husband found the rules of the Legacy Challenged printed out on my desk, picked them up and said "This is good. All you needed for your game was a little direction since you didn't know what to do with your sims."
WTH??
There are so many things that can be done with the sims...he is so clueless.

I really should have taken a screen shot of this becaus it's never happened to me before and it was quite interesting. My sim was hanging out with a friend and when they said goodbye, the skill bar came up above my sims head and filled up really quick and a pop-up came up and said something along the lines of "gettting fit is easy when you've got athletic friends to hang with! Nerina (my sim) picked up a body skill point." I had NO IDEA that could even happen! Has that happened to anyone before? It's really cool.
