View Full Version : What did you discover today while playing the sims?

I noticed that Dustin Broke and Angela Pleasant are really boring sims to play with... But if you add some things to their lifes, they might become more interesting. I was just about to kill them off, but wanted to give them one more chance, so after they adopted 2 really cute toddler-girls and 2 cats I was quite enjoying them. :) They just needed a little more life around them. In my game I won't let them have biological kids because... well... Broke brothers really aren't good genetic material.

Well, I didn't discover this today, I did discover it the other day while playing ts2 though. I just recently bought the holiday stuff packs, and I noticed there is a new party you can have that is a New Year's Bash. It's a lot of fun, the sims celebrate aparently by banging pots with wooden spoons. Then when it is a few hours from midnight, Father Time comes and he has a big hourglass, and he also bangs a pot with a wooden spoon. Then at the stroke of midnight he turns into a baby, and dances around and the baby stays for about an hour two after midnight, then he slowly vanishes. It's a lot of fun!

I just discovered that sims can lecture also other than familymembers! In my legacy, the butler broke the dishwasher and granny started to lecture him :D

The butler broke the dishwasher? That's funny about granny lecturing him though. Still, I don't know why I'm surprised, the nanny broke a family's bathtub in my game. She ignored the baby the whole time the rest of the family was gone, had a bath, then when they returned in the car, she got out of the bath and went over to the baby. By the time the parents got upstairs she was cuddling the baby like nothing had ever happened. Unfortunately for her, the bath was broken and there was water all over the floor!

Ok, so this is more Mod the Sims involved but I discovered this on the site today. I did a search in Sims 2 for goth today and the strangest thing happened.

That for some reason I like to play with big families who live in small houses. :D I really avoid all big houses, like the Beaker-house in strangetown. I'm playing there now, going through all the families and I just had to move Beakers into a smaller house. Now it's more interesting. Also I discovered that it was a huge mistake to let Loki and Circe have biological kids! They had twin-boys and both got their fathers nose and the other looks just like him... Circe wants even more kids, so for now on all their kids will be adopted. And I have to use surgery for the two unfortunate boys. Loki got himself a facelift some time age, and after failing with it 2 times he now looks good. So with him I discovered, how much fun is to see surgery failing :D

I discovered last night that if you click the adoption option on the phone, you get a kid... there is no 'oops I accidentally clicked that' option lol... or is there?
After I did that, I wondered why you can't pick your child when you adopt one like with the pets. It would be nice if you could see their skills, aspiration, wants, zodiac sign, etc before you adopt them and pick the child you want. I don't like that it just gives you some random kid.

No aspirations yes, but even toddlers have wants. Although, if you want to know all that stuff, why not just get your sim pregnant? Even if they're single men you can do it with the odd mod or two.

I was making my sim having an outing with his two friends. They went to a family restaurant on downtown. Then I saw two of them taking the seats at the sides so there was no way the third one could take the other seat, I was like: "wonderful! Now how can the last one take a seat?" And that's when I saw my sim literally jumping across the table. I was left speechless. Usually sims aren't that resourceful, I mean they can get stuck just because a cat sleeps in the wrong spot.
Another funny thing happened on another restaurant. My sim just ordered a lobster thermidor, she was pretty hungry, so finally the waiter arrives and the plate is placed in front of my hungry sim. Then before my sim could start digging it, a random townie approached from behind and nonchalantly ninjaed the plate!!!
It was so hilarious I laughed for a good five minutes.

So I was playing a house the other day - did you know that dancing to music can INCREASE the Social need - even if the Sim is dancing alone?
The Sim in question lived alone and had no visitors at the time. I was blown away.

I don't know if this is has been posted yet, or even if it's true. But I've noticed it in my game last night. My Sims seem to learn new dance moves, or get better at dancing, as their creativity goes up.
I have a pair of really outgoing Sims who both have music and dance as favorite hobbies, so they are always dancing. Last night one of them pulled a new move, his creativity is one point higher than the other one's, I'm going to see if Ronda learns the move when she gains that point.
This is the move he did:

The Cleanbot, hydrobot and Sentrybot sometimes are very helpful until they start to break. I like the sentrybot when it shocked the ex-boyfriend tried to kick the trash can and steal newspaper. But when they broke,
The sentrybot shot everyone and chased them out of the house. Cleanbot left trash everywhere on the floor. Hydrobot spit water all over. :D

That when there is a fire in the house and a toddler is anywhere near it someone in the household will run and grab him and run away with out being directed to do it.
That happened in the Broke family. Brandi caused a kitchen fire. Her third son Cameron, just a toddler at the time, was sitting on the floor just outside the kitchen... everyone was freaking out except for the older son who quickly scooped up Cameron and ran with him in his arms to get him away from the fire. It was so unexpected especially since I forgot that Cameron was even near the kitchen since a couch was blocking him.

That playing with "ugly family" is incredibly funny! And that kids can fell in love with their step-parents! In the Broke family Brandi's daughter is a teen (she was born after Beau) and she played with Brandi's husband at dinner by throwing food at him. They both fell in love! Strange sims... I removed their crush and love with sim blender, but they still have memory from that.

Well I discovered that yesterday but, if you have a lot with just servos and pets, powering down all servos at once will make the game think there are no sim on the lot and the pets will be taken away as not having an owner.
I assume that if servos adopt and are all to be powered down at once will have the social worker show up as well. Quite silly if you ask me considering the servos are still conscious as we can see thought bubbles from time to time.

I discovered something everybody probably already knew. The two stray dogs that come with Pets are having puppies. I didn't know that and tried to have them make puppies, but since the female dog was already pregnant, that option wasn't available. So, I was really frustrated until the female gave birth to puppies and I thought: "Oh, that's why!". So now I can continue with my sim's LTW of raising 20 puppies

Lately, when I had my trees on fire by lightning, the rain stopped. Therefore the fire wasn't put out. I almost lost my sims...

I saw that Michelle Gibson had 3 attraction bolts for Jace Raja, so I wanted to get them together. Unfortunately, they didn't have many relationship points to call and invite him over. So I kept looking for him at the community lots for Michelle. Finally, a little while ago, he was at the same lot. I rushed Michele over to chat with him and their relationship just soared on its own, with no further prompting from me. I think it was a good thing he had 3 attraction bolts for her just as well. I've never been able to join two people with 3 bolts so it was neat to discover how they clicked and played for several hours like kids.
I might have missed the chance if I didn't have the Mind Control Mirror from simchaotics. I was controlling my new romance sim, Strongand Handsome, and letting him meet all the usual players. So now I'm anxious to go play Michelle's lot and have Jace move in.
I still have to decide whether to have Michelle and Jace marry. Michelle has been a lot of fun with most of my sims in the short time I've been playing her. But, it would be my first wedding in my game as I usually have them get together without marrying. All the parties I've thrown for my sims have been total disasters, so I wouldn't want the same thing to happen to a marriage - it would be too much like how everything went wrong at my own real life wedding. Hahaha.
Well, I gotta go play so I can see how things are going to turn out for Michelle and Jace. Who knows, maybe I'll discover how to throw a perfect wedding.

Unfortunately, they didn't have many relationship points to call and invite him over.
Glad to see it worked out in the end. But for future reference, if a sim doesn't want to come over, you can still have your sim call them to chat and eventually, if you bug them enough, the relationship will be high enough that they'll want to come over.
This is really useful when my sims meet someone once and I'm too lazy to go to a community lot and try to meet new people they can interact with there. Make friends without leaving your home! :Pint:

I discovered a really really hot day. I had saved and then let my sims run wild while I went to the bathroom and washed my face and stuff, and when I came back the kids had been out of school for an hour and the social worker was taking them away. I forgot to get the "plead with social worker benefit", so I went back to my save spot to get it and wondered if I could recreate the situation.
Turns out the kids in that hour while on the playground, the kids' temperature shot straight up and one suffered a heatstroke. One of my sim families had guests over the last time I played them, which was a while ago. They had their play room on the second floor, while the two bedrooms are on the third floor. One of the guests, Carla Cho, was still in the hot tub when I was waking the sims up.
I sent the first sim downstairs to the first floor to drink water as she was burning up. When she got to the first floor, I noticed the environment immediately went totally red. Well, one of the guests must have used the bathroom near the kitchen on their way out and caused the toilet to break. I was happy to see one of the new bots my sim made cleaning up and instructed the second sim to repair the toilet.
But then I wondered why the room score plummeted from the bathroom It didn't make sense. I zoomed in for a closer look and saw trash all over the floor in the hallways, living room, kitchen and where the bots are stationed in the garage. I had no idea where the trash came from. So, when the first sim was done drinking her water, I queued a few of the trash piles.
That's when I saw the clean bot spewing more trash on the floor. Apparently, there was too much water, so the bot would spit out water as trash, then go back to cleaning and kept repeating this. I never knew that.
My first sim was nice and calm, cleaned up the trash with enthusiasm. The second sim stopped every couple seconds to cry. Then she would drop the pile of trash on the floor right in front of the compost bin. I got tired of her dropping the queue several times to cry so I finally had her turn off the bot and sent her outside to practice chess. The first sim had to clean up all the trash alone and never waved, stomped her feet nor cried when the other sim was in her way. I never knew one sim could be so utterly calm with a totally red environment score.
Now I get to go back to the game and see if the bot can be turned on and used again.

That's what happens when a cleanbot breaks down. It will spew trash out instead of sucking it up.
Hydrobots spew water everywhere, sentrybots electricute residents of the lot and munchiebots bring back dirty, empty plates instead of food.
You'll need to tell a Sim to repair it before you turn it back on again. Leaving it turned off is no good as they can reactivate themselves when they are broken.

Thanks for the warning about the bots. I thought only the servos had malfunctions. I didn't realize I had to watch out for the other bots, which I've been trying to place in every household.
I only have one servo and she is pretty annoying with "do chores" negating my queue constantly. A few times, I watched to see what chores she was going to do and they usually were stuff like pinball, or play a computer game or dancing. Very few times was she actually doing something that resembled chores. I tried to make her malfunction once by telling her to get in the hot tub. I didn't think she would do it, but she did. A few sparks flew, but a few moments after she got out, she was back to normal. And yet she is frequently playing water balloon fights in the rain, of her own choice.
I just went to have my sim repair the cleanbot and there isn't an option to repair when I click on it. only "turn on" comes up. I will take the chance that it is still able to perform its duties and keep an eye on it. My sims in this household are very neat, so I don't often get to see their cleanbot in action. But I have sentrybots in quite a few of my households. I wish they'd catch the people knocking over the trashcan. Usually an enemy of one of my sims, but sometimes just a sim passing by in a bad mood. I spend too much time watching the passerbys while my sims are at work or doing something where I can still watch the sidewalk.

For the first time since I've been putting sentrybots in my houses, I discovered what happens when the bot decides a sim has asked for too much in their safe passage by the house. I had the camera zoomed out from the corner of my lot so I could see the entire sidewalk while my sims were gardening. And still see my sims moving around the garden working.
I saw Brenda Okuma walking down the sidewalk coming toward me. I was just about to get one of my sims to greet her as she is one of my newer townie playables. But, I thought I saw something flash just behind Brenda, so I zoomed over to have a look, thinking it might be someone else I'd rather have my sims greet. I came face-to-face with the bot too quickly and had to back up. It hovered for a second, then decided that all was well and turned to go back inside. I guess they have good peripheral vision because it was then that Brenda Okuma stopped in front of our newspaper. It was like in stealth mode as it came up behind Brenda, but she turned around and stood for several seconds looking at the bot without taking it's defense of the property seriously.
The bot zapped her for several seconds and I laughed rather gleefully for nearly an hour after that. My heart was racing wondering if she would make it after getting zapped as she just had a baby and I didn't want another father/son household. Well, she scuttled off with a very frightened look and I think the relief of knowing she was okay let me laugh hard for so long. Of course, now I feel a little guilty for my merriment at her expense but I am looking forward to seeing the next visitor pass by. I really hope it is Consort Capp or that one guy that keeps making my female sims cry and I can never remember his name until I see him.
Now I want a hacked object I can use to zap sims when I want. Oh the fun.

I discovered that if a sim isn't very nice and gets cheated on, they don't cry. (Or maybe it's if they're very serious).
One of my sims got cheated on by her fiance and she's shown almost no emotion about it. It almost seems like she's giving her fiance the silent treatment. I love it! They're just awkwardly puttering around the apartment, barely speaking. The fiance also has to sleep on the couch now, which I think is adorable and so true to life.

Once when playing a family, I had the father at maxed creativity, and every once in a while he would do the picture pose. He did it every time he was about to pick up one of the toddlers too.
The funny thing is the mother, even though she didn't have any creativity, used the exact same pose just before picking up a toddler (although sometimes she would sigh instead).
I found out that cheerleaders are pretty nice. I was playing one of the binned families and messing around with cheats, and doing different things (like make the husband cheat on his wife with a cheerleader, grow the child into a teen and turn her into a vampire, etc) and when the wife attacked the husband out of jealousy, the child was crying. The cheerleader went right to the child and started cheering her up instantly, then went to the husband then the wife, doing the same thing.
Also, I found out that sims don't like naked people. I made the cheerleader naked, and had her apologize to the husband. He normally tried flirting with her, but he ended up becoming furious with her instead. xD
I also found out that cheerleaders are pretty good at fighting, every time the wife attacked the cheerleader, the cheerleader ended up winning.

That sims will do the oddest things at the strangest times. (Ok, so I guess we already knew that.....)
One of my inmates played air guitar with a slice of pizza. Never seen that before!
Also - bad dreams! I had a sim wake up in the middle of the night, sit up in bed and look around whilst breathing really heavily. Then he lay back down, sighed in relief (at there being no monsters maybe?) and went back to sleep.

I've had sims that have had nightmares as well. I finally figured out that, in my game, it was due to the fact that their needs were really low. Once I was able to have them raise their needs the bad dreams stopped.

I've only ever had inmates from my asylum challenge do it.... I guess that'll be a low needs issue. Some of them just refuse to look after themselves, it's so funny! They just stand there shouting that they're hungry or stinky or whatever, and then go off and watch telly instead of eating or showering. Smart.

I learned last night that witches can go to a magic lot depending on if they are a good witch or a bad witch they can choose where they want to go. And at the lot they find the head either good witch or bad witch, and you can buy things from her, and ask her advice and everything. I only went to the good witch palace because I only had a good witch at the time, I'm just getting into playing witches, before I was so confused about reagents and how to use them, but now I think I know how.

I noticed that in OFB, there are different colours in those paperbags that sims carry in the store. Brown is the first, then it changes to blue bag with 2 §-signs when sim buys more than 500§ worth of stuff and finally golden bag with §§§ :D haven't played this much with shops before.

I was very surprised with learning that if a ghost on its very first night out sees its bed intact, it stops appearing during the nights at all. At least this is how it worked in that Riverblossom Hills family with two old ladies, the Vejlo, or whatever is the household's name. Usually I do a big house makeover once the elders die, or move the Sims out and into a new house, never keeping the passed away Sims' beds. This time I simply forgot about it.
I also learned that Julian Cooke has the highest [tripple bolts] chemistry with many female Sims in Riverblossom Hills and two bolts chemestry with the rest. What's so special about him?

I learned a new scenario that one of the cheats works well for.
In my Handsome family, Sebastian had just aged from toddler to child. On the second day of school, he was sent off to the school bus as the bus pulled up. It isn't a long walk from the house to the bus so I felt confident that the kid would get on the bus. I had five other sims in the house that would not be going to school/work that day. One was taking a nap, so I thought the day could be spent having mom and dad bond with the new toddler, Sabrina without Sebastian feeling jealous. The live-in maid could tend to the money trees, garden, make smart milk, empty the potty and garden.
We were having a great morning and it was about time to stop for a lunch break when I looked up and saw a message that Sebastian had missed school and his grades would drop consequently. I looked around and didn't see Sebastian and distinctly remembered seeing him heading for the school bus. I thought it was a glitch in the game and went to wake the other adult, who was napping, to prepare the lunch meal. I clicked on her picture which showed that she was no longer napping and was out front playing darts. I was really shocked and furious when I saw Sebastian playing darts with her. His needs weren't drained, but they were very low.
Barbara Young is a family sim I added to this family and she really liked Sebastian a lot. Each time mom would play with him, family kiss, or whatever, Barbara acted jealous and would immediately start writing in her diary. Thought bubbles with mom's picture with a big red "X" over it appeared repeatedly. She rarely did anything autonomously except play or hold Sebastian since the first day he was born. I thought it was great having another adult that was so attentive. She proved that theory Wrong.
Well, the next day was Friday, so I knew there wasn't time to bring Sebastian's grades up from a D+ without the social-worker taking him and his sister away over the weekend. And I couldn't exit without saving because I had saved a couple times that morning during the time Sebastian was supposed to be at school. So, I went looking for a hack to change the day to Monday. I had seen one somewhere, but forgot where. I could also move the family to a new house as most moves are on Monday. I didn't want to move the family just yet. Although they needed a bigger house, I wanted to stick with the goal of a set amount saved for them to move and the money wasn't quite there.
At the sim wiki, I found an entry to change the hour of the day. Hmm. That should work. So, I used "sethour 6" to change the time and go back to 6 a.m. At 8 a.m. I didn't have to worry about Barbara interfering with the kid getting to school because I also found a hack that let me turn off free will for individuals in the household. She couldn't do anything without me specifically commanding her to. Sebastian went to school and later in the day, I will set the clock back one more time, after he has done his homework, just to make sure the social worker stays away for the entire weekend.
And Barbara, she will be moving out. I am going to build a very special house for her that is very tiny and has no fun objects, except those that give her skill points. Then I will take away all her skill points and make her start over.

I have always hated the idea, that UNI students can't have pets (cats and dogs) at Uni lots, but now I discovered that it IS possible :) I have a male sim in residential lot at UNI and he wanted to have a pet ever since he was little. So because he can't buy a pet from pet shop or adopt by phone, I used teleporter (Inge's) to summon a stray to his house, made it selectable, checked personality and training, and chose a nice dog for him. Then I moved the dog in with teleporter. So apparently sims CAN have dogs or cats at uni, you just have to summon a stray and move it in. :) I also discovered some time ago that if you sell a puppy to a townie, it becomes a stray. So that way there can also be puppies in stray-bin and students can "adopt" them :) Haven't seen yet, if the dog comes autonomously with the student who graduates and returns to main hood... but I guess atleast with teleporter it can get back to it's owner :)
EDIT: I tested it, police came to take the dog away after my sim moved to main hood, but his dog was still in stray bin and I brought it back with teleporter. :)

I learned that one of my little old ladies must have a secret admirer because someone keeps leaving bottles of wine/champagne at their doorstep.
It has been a while since I played this lot and I don't remember what happened the last time I played them. I know I was looking for a new roomie for them as they are very old and didn't want something to happen to all their goodies since they have no heirs.
Now I can't wait to solve the mystery of the secret admirer. I put the bottles in their inventory. Considered having them drink one, but then I also don't remember if they have recently made enemies, so what if it is poisoned.
When my sims have gone out and had a good time on a date, they get gifts with a note. It is odd that there hasn't been a note left with these bottles. I've been trying all day to remember what happened the last time - I can remember all the other families, but not this one because these two old ladies move about so slow I get bored with them. So I made a new CAS roomie for them to make it more interesting while I investigate the secret admirer.

I learnt that time flies when you're in C.A.S. It's just so fun creating simmies and assigning them retarded clothes etc :D C.A.S is also double the fun when you have expansion packs :) Lots of options....more time wasted....
I learnt that Body Shop is the best place to start if you really want to tweak a sim you make. More options and no crazy cheesy smiling going on like it does in C.A.S!
I learnt that it is much easier to get inspiration to create a house if you base it on a real/previous house, and then just decorate it however you want. Everyone probably already knows this but I'm just sayin'.
I learnt that it is easy to go overboard with the home decorations when creating a basic house that is affordable enough for your sims to actually move into :\
I learnt that Maxis did a superb job of creating all the in-game sims. Oh yeah, SUPERB! They're all stunning, Maxis, STUNNING. (The first thing on my list is to go into to every single maxis-made house and redo everything they spent all their hard-work on. The looks, the clothes, even the decor just ain't cutting it)

Today, I watched my sims go to class in Uni. These are the last few hours of their senior semester. So, I turned my attention to a visitor on the lot as they always remain if my sims hadn't told them to leave. In this case, I had completely lost track of time and didn't realize it was class time until my sims were flying out the door. Par for the course that the sims can't expect me to make sure they attend their classes because they know I'm not dependable. Hehehe
Anyhow, the guest was on the computer when I leaned closer to my monitor because it looked like the guest had two plum bobs. And the guest seemed to be looking up at the ceiling from the desk. Then I heard the whiny voice my sims make when they want my attention - usually something stupid like making the walls disappear. And then I saw a thought bubble under the extra plum bob to accompany the whine. Whoa, my sim is invisible. I gave my sim different commands to see their plum bob move around the room. But, since I couldn't click on my sim at all, I was going to allow her to skip this one class.
I tried exit to the hood, exit the game and other things. They all failed to make my sim appear. The solution turned out to be to turn on the cheats with boolprop testingcheatsenabled true. I got some error about my sim and used the reset button and all has been fine since. I don't often activate that cheat, but I guess I should with all the custom content I have and mega hacks and mods. Glad I didn't have to waste time looking through forums for a fix and was able to send my sim to class only 15 minutes late.
Now I'm hoping I will remember this solution I learned if this happens again because I was going to try more drastic things like moving my sims out of the lot and deleting the lot. But as this was the Greek House I created, I obviously didn't want to do that.

EDIT; turns out there was a whole load of vermin outside, that's why everyone kept getting sick, my bad ahaha.

I've learnt how incredibly contagious the flu is. 3 Sims were standing outside, and within seconds they passed it on to one another.
EDIT; turns out there was a whole load of vermin outside, that's why everyone kept getting sick, my bad ahaha.
The flu is very contagious in the game. One of my sims came home with the flu in a household with three sims. I already had the sim making her own supper, so I let her eat, then had another sim clean up while she went straight to bed. The sim cleaning up was sick before done washing the plate but I didn't make her go right to bed. Instead, I made her clean the kitchen and all the bathrooms. Then she could go to bed. The third sim was in the garden and I put a new sink and shower outside so she could get clean before coming in the house. She never got sick.
The other two woke up in the middle of the night and they weren't sick any more. So whenever the game tells me that one of my sims has the flu, I send them right to bed and make other sims in the house wash their hands several times and and scrub the house. The flu hasn't spread in any of my households since. Thankfully.
Sol Lewis, just before she died, knocked over the trash by the mailbox of one of my sims. She was doing this all over the hood and I was fed up with it. So, instead of having a sim cleaning the trash, I went to Sol's house and made sure she would never bother another sim again. I completely forgot about the trash knocked over as I didn't play that family again.
By the time I discovered the trash can, I had just packed all their belongings to move to a new house and saw them stomping bugs where I hadn't packed the front yard. I was in a panic that the social worker would come take the kid and that my sims would all get sick and die because they wouldn't stay away from the bugs and I didn't know if any of the bugs would be carried over to their new house. I took a sink out of their inventory and had them wash up at the front door as soon as they stopped stomping bugs. Then I waited several game hours to move them out, having them play in the front yard so I could see if any bugs would reappear or if my sims would get sick. They never got sick and have been in their new house for several sim days.
So I learned that with the flu or with bugs, make all sims in the household wash their hands several times.

I almost forgot this one since I have played so many houses the last couple of days.
I was conducting an experiment on my sims at a community lot when one rolled a want to toss a coin in the fountain. I don't like tossing coins in the fountain because sometimes bad things happened even when my sims were gold or platinum.
The fountain gave a message "If you scratch it will never go away." which I thought was very cryptic. Then my sim started scratching and I remembered the fountain's message. I couldn't get her to stop scratching long enough to get her home, and I didn't know if I had anything to cure whatever was causing the itch. So, I decided to try to keep her occupied. That wasn't easy, so I had her get in the nearby pool. At first, she kept climbing out to scratch, but I got better at canceling those actions and telling her to swim to the other end of the pool, away from the ladders. This is one reason I am glad I only put one ladder for each pool.
It wasn't long before it appeared she wasn't scratching any more, but I still made her swim back and forth in the small pool a few more times, just in case.
In hindsight, I could probably get her to do yoga or meditate the next time. But I figured it was much harder to scratch and stay afloat at the same time than it would be to scratch and meditate. I may have to get rid of those fountains I have in several lots because I like the look of them. I should have learned my lesson when the fountain sent a swarm of bees after my sim.

Maranatah, it's people like you that make me hate Americans because we CANNOT SPEAK OTHER LANGUAGES, unless we go so far out of our way to learn. Geh.
Not quite sure what you are meaning by that, english isn't my own language.
I learned that boring sims may turn fun to play with after make-overs, and in this case defaulf skin replacements :) And that it's hard to come up with something exciting for my legacy (I'm writing a blog about it). I need ideas!
I discovered that I was somehow able to read all 206 pages of this thread...

I think he means you can speak a second language (english) and most americans can't unless they were born around the other language. It's kind of hard to explain but he was just pointing out one avenue of American. ...inferiority (the drive to learn others' languages), I guess.
Well, not exactly but that's the closest I could explain.

Yeah, we do. It's just that most kids don't really apply it- some do and go on to study abroad but a lot just don't even try to really become fluent. It's hard to explain.

Continuing with the woohoo theme, I've discovered (in the past) that you can get lots of points in college by woohooing your professors. I had a romance sim once who never did his term paper or any academic work other than skill-building and got a 4.0 every term just by sleeping with his teacher. :lovestruc  :Pint:

My sims have had so many different jobs that I don't pay much attention when they go off to work. Today, I had Berry Glass, Rosi Glass and Lindsay Leong in the swimming pool before work because two of them had it as a want.
Lindsay got home from work at 2 a.m. and decided she wanted to toss a coin in the fountain and stargaze. So, I moved the telescope close to the fountain on the top of the hill and I sent her to the fountain to toss her coin and got the message, "You will need more than an ocean of calamine lotion." Drats! Another bad one from that stupid fountain even though my sim was platinum. Thankfully, they had a swimming pool but it took a while for her to stop scratching long enough to get down from the hill and into the pool. Then she wanted to get a drink from the bar. Then she wanted to scratch. Then she wanted a drink from the bar. But I just kept making her swim at the end of the pool with no ladder until the scratching stopped. Geez, I just went through this with another sim yesterday. Different message, but same pain in the tush.
Lindsay hasn't been wanting to scratch or drink for a while when it is time for Berry to head to work. She is now an Ecological Guru. I did a doubletake when I saw her switch out of her bikini and into, what, another bikini? What job lets you go to work dressed like that? I zoomed in for a closer look and saw that her bikini was just leaves covering her female parts. Oh no! She really did have one too many drinks from that new bar last night. She was tossing them down like water before I made her go do something else. Hehehe.
Then I began to wonder what carpool an ecological guru would have, so I followed her out front but didn't see a car, a bicycle, skateboard, or anything. Carpool is really late. Maybe it won't come because of a glitch in the game. But no, I definitely got the message it would be here in an hour and it is half past the hour. When she walked to the sidewalk, I thought, oh, she is going to walk to work. Show is over. But then she lifted one arm and zoomed up into the sky like Superman. Hehehe.
That gave me a good laugh before I had to return to see if Lindsay had drowned from exhaustion after being in the water all that time. Still alive. I really have to pay more attention when my sims leave for work.

After my sims acted addicted to the new bar in their home - the first few hours, no less, I put it in the corner, turned it around, and put a chess table and chairs in front of it while the sims were out of the house. I couldn't delete the bar with one drink remaining and there was no option to have a sim clean up.
After work, one of my sims invited Bianca Monty over. They chatted for a while out front, and since the night was still early, they could play poker upstairs. I followed closely to calm the sims down when they realized the access to the bar was blocked. Because you know that sims just can't overcome any obstacle whatsoever. But instead of waving their arms at me, Bianca squeezed between the wall and chair and stretched for that one drink. And got it. She didn't even pause to consider her approach. Geez was I mad.
No doubt in my mind now that there is a lot of code that brings out the worse behavior and values in sims. I've only bought two bars for home use the entire time I've played the sims. Even sim teenagers will have "Buy a bar" in their wants when they have just moved into a new house. The other sims I bought the bar for, never touched it once. They were fortune sims and had "buy" wants so much that they never got around to it. Although they are a bit obsessed with some of their adult toys. Just like some sims will only play pinball for fun, with so many wants fulfilled, they just keep doing the same things over and over unless directed to something else they had asked for but never touch. All of my families now have stuff in their inventories that I only let them play with once in a while because it gives me a migraine to hear pinball machines at all hours of the day and night or seeing them totally ignore their kids to play pool, myshuno, mahjong or poker.
But at least I could get rid of the bar after that one drink was no longer a temptation for my sims. But I have a feeling that Bianca will want a bar the next time I play that house. I have a lot of "No autonomous ..." mods in my game because sims really weren't made smart enough. I can't really blame the sims, but they really annoy me at times.
So I discovered that playing the sims makes me go through download binges. I'm off to find some more mods to get rid of some more annoying sim behaviors.

Today I discovered what a terrific daddy/babysitter Mortimer Goth is. I'm playing the cleaned up Uber-Mega Hood from MATY. He and Bella finally divorced and she moved out, but not before she got pregnant. After the baby was born, she invited Mortimer over (with whom she is still really good friends with) and asked him to watch the baby while she went to work. He was amazing! So much better than the nanny or butler! He was very attentive. Even after mom got home, he continued caring for the baby. Giving him a bath in the sink, which is just way to cute to watch! (I'm...weird, so bear with me.)
Last night, I made a detailed Excel spreadsheet on all the careers (well, the Base, Uni, and Freetime ones...don't have Seasons) and made some interesting discoveries.
I calculated how many hours are spent each day and week at each job, and how much is earned hourly and weekly in addition to the daily total given to us.
I discovered that some of these promotions aren't really all that great, monetarily. Looked at hourly, there are several that actually come with pay CUTS! There are also a few jobs that are 45 hours/week, though very few are even 40 a week. A handful work 9 hour days. The slacker career, really is! It has the lowest average number of hours a day, and reaching the top puts sims out with very few skills at all.

29th Dec 2009, 09:21 PM
Yeah, I figured in my head that some jobs weren't all that great and that the promotions don't always mean more pay. That's one of the main reasons I have encouraged many of my sims to write novels. They control their hours and can make good money with very little time spent working away from the family. And take vacations whenever they want. I mostly get them regular jobs to satisfy lifetime wants. It really bugs me when they reach the top of one career and the next ltw is for a huge cut in pay.
That Education Minister is one I really don't like at all. My sims spend too much time at the job when they reach the top. And most of my sims are collecting career rewards they never use. It would make sense to have the sims roll wants to use their career rewards, but mine never do. At least not that I can remember. For some of my sims, I had to create a separate room for their stuff when I had multiple family members all doing different careers with rewards that take up a lot of space.
Maybe I should have all my sims send them to one family. Then that family can open a business selling all the unused rewards to townies. Just like I did with the headstones so I wouldn't have graves and ghosts all over the neighborhood. Now only one lot has to deal with the dead - as it should be.

I finally took my sims on a Bon Voyage vacation. I've had a few vacations booked, one was for Sol Glass and Laerah Tada. But Sol died, so that didn't happen. I guess if Laerah had booked the vacation, she would have gone. By herself I suppose. I have no idea if the game would ask if she wanted to take another person or not.
I had Jo and Kaelynn Tree go to Three Lakes. The first day I was really bored and wanted to cut the trip short. But the second day I remembered there were clues and mementos to look for. The one thing that stumped me was not knowing how to order room service. They bought a vacation home but I wanted to see what the other vacation options were, so I had them stay at a hotel. They were starving when they arrived because I assumed that it would be a simple thing to get some food. Fortunately, I had them spend some of their vacation time making some meals and packing them in their inventories. So they were able to eat and not lose money checking out of the hotel because I couldn't figure out how to get them some food. Hehehe.
I have been playing with the different methods of killing sims. I decided to make use of the cowplant I put in the Pushing Up Daisies Cemetery. I think the cowplant thought Jess, the newspaper boy was quite tasty. But he only sniffed Tiffany Zarubin. I sent her in the pen to take the cake nearly a dozen times, but she kept walking out without any battle wounds at all. Very disappointing. She must have some immunity. Almost everyone else that walked by, I had them feed the cowplant. I just think it is funny to watch.
Matthew Smith, the Garden Club guy came by. Of course, I didn't want him eaten by the cowplant, so I had Tracy and Warren, make friends with him. Also had to make sure that several kids kept walking instead of standing near the cowplant's pen. I have it near the mailbox. I made Matthew selectable and saw that he had a want to see Sol's ghost. I got so excited because she comes out every night, waving her arms because she wants to be near her family. The closer it got to dark, the more anxious I was that Matthew would still be there. But nightfall came and went and Sol never appeared. That was so not fair. Why every night except when someone _wants_ to see her. I don't think her family even wants to see her, much less have her living with them and haunting them.
I put the cemetery at the very edge of the neighborhood and am surprised how many people walk by it. Tracy is easily scared by the ghosts so I should probably move her out of there first. She's even to the point where she won't go to certain areas of the lot. She just stops and acts like she is arguing with someone - even in the daytime. But she will teleport all over the lot, so I don't know what the problem is. Warren is stoic and not bothered at all. I would be tempted to leave him there by himself but they are so cute together. I love how he will autonomously leap into her arms several times a day.
Saw a lot of new stuff in my game but discovered that they came with a bunch of questions I don't have answers for, yet.

Meggie, that's so sweet! :)
Anyway, recently I was decorating my neighborhood and building new houses. You know these wide and low decorative buildings that you can add in the neighborhood? I was on a lot and zoomed in on one and discovered that they actually reflect a cityscape.

Now I know this isn't exactly a picture thread, but I'm going to use pictures to illustrate my points.
I discovered that the dogs behave quite realistically when it comes to their chew toys and beds.
I have a sim-house with two German shepherd dogs, Cabal and Kaia, and even though there's a chew toy in another room, one constantly wants to use the chew toy the other is using. Here Cabal is staring at Kaia, but it sometimes happens the other way around.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/backlash98/Sims2/snapshot_b8318bd2_9847fd9e.jpg
Also, one night after coming home from work, Cabal fell asleep in the Kaia's pet bed and she went to that bed to go to sleep, only to find him sleeping in it. She stood there and stared at him. I thought it was funny.
Another time (with another family) at the dog park, I saw a stray Australian shepherd named Jake start using a chew toy, then an elderly stray mastiff (Spike) walked up as if he wanted to use the chew toy (even though there's another chew toy visible in the picture). Then my sim's dog, Chester (a smooth fox terrier), walked over to Jake and barked at him.

Finally, some dogs, even if they're finicky and fully encouraged to be clean, just do not like taking baths:

Genetics are maintained in CAS through multiple generations! I made a set of grandparents to create two adult brothers. The grandfather had dark blue eyes and the grandmother had brown. I create the brothers via the pacifier and both end up with dark blue eyes. The grandparents were summarily deleted as they had served their purpose. I make one of the brothers a wife (with green eyes). Then I made the kids. Two have the dominant dark blue, that I anticipated all of them would have, but the third has BROWN!
I guess I always figured that all CAS sims automatically had their genes homogenized. And it carries out of CAS, because now they're out in the neighbourhood and the men are carrying the brown eye gene according to SimPE (and the kids all have the recessive green, though that's less surprising to me, moreso, I think, because both their parents actually exist).

I discovered this a while back myself -- as most of the time I play all the households in a neighbourhood, by the time I get to grandchildren of the ditched CAS sims I can often forget what genes I gave them. I had one occasion where I had two sims, one with black/blond and the other with brown/black hair genes, and had their black-haired son marry a red-haired woman in order to get sme recessive genes back in to the 'hood -- imagine my surprise when they had two blonde-haired girls! It did take me a while to remember that their grandfather had a blond gene.

I discovered that I no longer like my favorite hood, RiverBlossom Hills. When I got NL, BV and OFB all at once, I stopped playing RH a short time later because I didn't want that hood to be too big while I was learning all the stuff in the new expansions.
After a while, I just started having too much fun in Veronaville to return to RH. But today I went back and immediately disliked a lot of stuff. I made bad houses - that is where I learned, more like struggled, to make houses and most of the houses are on foundations and I don't like houses on foundation any longer. I worked so hard on my environment scores but see that in all the houses I went in, the environment scores were really bad I guess the new expansions caused that. And every sim I visited had rolled wants to go on a vacation.
So I'm tempted to nuke the whole hood and start over. But I did visit my favorite sim there, Marla Biggs. I didn't know about Simblender when I was playing her. It made me so sad that she became an elder because I didn't think to give her elixir of life until it was too late. I didn't want to say goodbye in that horrible house, so I moved her to a new house I am still working on fixing up for her. Then I aged her back to an adult with simblender. It made me feel a little better.
If I nuked the hood, I would try to keep her somehow. Probably not possible even though I wouldn't be moving her to a different hood, just nuking the stuff in the hood she is in. So I will fix up her house and say g'bye when I delete the hood. It's consoling to know that I would do a LOT of things differently the second time around in that hood.

There's a cheat code...

You can use that to buy a driveway to put the car in, but since the game has no idea how to handle a car in a dorm once it's there you should probably put it in inventory and delete the driveway again.

But then, honestly, it had to have been an actual year later, I had this one Sim girl wanting to adopt repedtedly, bothering the crap out of me, so I did, and whaddya know? It was Zak! I have a family with a toy making home business. One weekend I had their kid invite his friend and her brothers and sisters (all from one playable family). The kids went straight into buying toys (I was a bit annoyed by that but the family can afford a few fire trucks).

Hmmm. Really? I have all the colleges associated with Veronaville in my game and all my students that go to Uni get in the ss.
However, I've only been playing Le Tour because when I peeked at the others, I thought they were awful. Le Tour wasn't perfect, but I guessed it would take less time to modify to something pleasing than the other two campuses. I haven't sent a sim there to confirm this opinion, but I never removed the associations just in case I wanted to go in to do a campus makeover like I have done with Le Tour. But, if it will mess up my game, I guess I can just get rid of them without sentiment or angst. I'd much rather have my sims get into the ss as it adds an additional element and allows another reason to make up more rules for my sim victims, I mean sim students.

Yeah, I found that one out too, it is a really sad scream.
One thing I discovered recently was that when parent sims fight in the same room as their child. The child will run out of the room crying and one of the parents will go to comfort them, and this is all autonomously. The only thing I made the sims do was argue with each other, I forgot the kid was in the room skill-building, she ran up the stairs to her bedroom and her father followed (while the mom was just angry), the father went and hugged her and his interaction said "comfort".

I discovered that I should never play with cheats when I don't remember the real codes. I created a sim in CAS and I wanted him to be taller, so I thought about using the 'stretchskeleton' cheat. The problem is that I didn't remember that I needed to put a value near the cheat code to set the height. So, I randomly put 'stretchskeleton off' and my Sim seemed to disappear. Not knowing what I really did, I saved him anyway and went back to the family preview. And there my Sim was, a chest laying on the floor with broken legs and arms, all of them still moving, with a crazy smile on his face, looking straight at ME. It was freaking scary.

I think some of my sims need psychiatric help because they can be very weird when left to do their own thing. Michelle Gibson, one of the townies I'm playing, really makes me uneasy at times. Sol Glass was obviously crazy, but Michelle is sneaky crazy. At night, when it is dark, I have seen her going for walks around the neighborhood when I'm playing another family. She walks differently when she's night roaming. And the burglar could have some fierce competition if Michelle decided to be a burglar. She sneaks around and steals newspapers. Most sims just steal the paper and nothing more. Michelle has this lunatic ritual with cackling and dancing before she takes the paper. And then, instead of leaving while the going is good, she hangs out giggling and laughing and drawing attention to herself.
A.J. Leong likes to sit on a sofa or chair and make faces for absolutely no reason. Last night, I watched him for quite a while. He reminds me of Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter movie. In that scene where Ron tells Malfoy to "Eat slugs!" but the spell backfires because of his broken wand. Ron's face would contort and his mouth would twist all up as he spewed the slugs out. That's what A.J. does, but there are no slugs coming out, of course. If there were slugs, I'd probably be in Mexico or Canada trying to get further away.
Then there is Hermia Cap, who I've been playing a lot lately. Something about her just doesn't sit well with me. Its kind of like she is evil and when I play her, I keep expecting her to take off her mask or reveal her masterful plan to ... well, do something that would not be good. I get a similar feeling from Juliet Capp and wonder when I will know her hidden agenda. And I have to wonder if it is my hyperactive imagination working up a new story idea, or if I should just kill every last one of the Capps. Just like I had planned.
I demolished the lot where the Capps live, because I killed Consort and Tybalt. But the game won't let me build on that spot. I also can't move another lot to that spot. Yes, I did try the decor mode and made sure none of those boxes or trees and stuff were in the way. I move houses and lots a lot. But now I have this prime spot to build on that is so huge that I want to fill it with a house or new comm lot, but can't. Those Capps are a sneaky bunch I tell you.

I discovered that there are still a lot of things I haven't done in my game that I have wanted to happen or do. I finally found the perfect family to be my low -aspiration family. That's where I just meet their basic needs but try to avoid meeting their daily aspirations unless they are worth 1000 aspiration points or more. But, I can't maintain their aspiration at platinum, if it gets there. I have to wait until it goes all the way back to the first level of the green before satisfying another daily want. This is a lot of fun with a family of sims. It isn't much fun when I have done it for a single sim.
I haven't had one of my pregnant females die from aspiration failure yet. I want one to die from it, especially one of the townies I'm playing. I don't want to lose my custom sims. But, I don't know how to make a pregnant sim go into aspiration failure at the right moment, so the baby is okay.
I think I want a tent family after reading another poster that has their families living in tents. But I may have to do that in another hood. Or a sub hood maybe. Hmmm.
There were other things. I need to keep a list of stuff I still want to do before I kick the sim bucket and stop playing the sims. I keep coming up with new stuff to do so I forget about the old stuff I want to do. Now I have to go look up whether it is safe to move sims to a subhood, without using something like Sim PE - it isn't available for Mac users. I got a few sims I'd like to start my tent hood with. - my rich sims that are about to age to elders and already reached their ltw. Hahahaha. Hehehehe. This will be so much fun.

Moving a sim into a sub-hood that is attached to the same neighborhood is safe. It's similar to sending a teen to college and back. The problem comes from sending a sim into a completely different neighborhood bringing shadow copies of all the sims they have ever met because the game doesn't scrub the memory well enough. Since the sims really are still available in the neighborhood, there is no harm done.

According to Brandi Broke's memories Beau Broke was born AFTER Skip died. Yet the sim blender tells me that Brandi's unborn baby is Skip's. So the Broke family's memories must be pretty messed up.
Brandi/Beau/Unborn Baby(Which i named Kyle)- In my head, Skip and Brandi had trouble conceiving, so they had IVF, they spent all their money on the hope of being parents, (which in my head is the reason they're poor). So the unborn baby in my head can be Skips if she had her eggs harvested if that makes sense.
