That the desperation result for a Pleasure sim is a very amusing dance with a lampshade on their head... I'm so amused by this antic I have done nothing to help this poor sim. Guess he's going to have to wait till the amusement is over.

In my opinion, the Pleasure and Grilled Cheese aspiration failures are the most amusing -- Pleasure as you've seen is dancing with a lampshade; Grilled Cheese is nomming on a piece of cardboard with an anthromorphic grilled cheese sandwich on it. The first time I ever saw it was in someone's legacy -- there was a wedding going on and all the Grilled Cheese sim could do was eat his 'sandwich' and look around to prevent people stealing it.

Grilled Cheese came as a hidden aspiration with Nightlife. You have to send a sim with green or lower -- red is best -- aspiration to that ReNuYu SensoOrb. They'll stick their head in, a bunch of red smoke'll appear, and they'll come out with an obsession with grilled cheese.

Most Family sims will roll that at some point in the endorphin rush right after a kid is born. Don't worry, it rolls away soon.
This is not a want for the fainthearted. If you ever decide to go for it, you should probably start with a born in-game sim and plan his or her entire adult life around it. Also, plan for the knock-on consequences - soon your neighborhood will increase vastly in size, you'll have a lot of households with the same name, and certain genetic features will haunt you for the rest of the neighborhood's life!

Yeah, that's a want I've never let a sim fulfill, and likely never will.
I had a Popularity sim roll this want recently, btw. (I think she's secondary family, though. *double-checking* Yes.) I told her, "You might as well roll somethin' else, 'cuz that ain't happ'nin'!".

I feel just the opposite. When a couple has more than 2-3 kids, it's hard to feel connected with all of them, and they become UNspecial to me. I also don't want one family or one family's genetics to dominate the 'hood.
@AmphyPrincess
I've always felt the poor Ottomas family is unfairly maligned. They ARE ugly, which is weird, because I think both Peter and Samantha look fine. Can't figure out why the kids turn out the way they do. But anyway, I love even my ugly sims. Ugly often translates to "interesting" and/or "endearing". :)
Peni Griffin
8th Oct 2011, 05:22 PM
I don't even find mine all that ugly; but that's a matter of taste. Theodora is growing up into a believeable Romance sim - attractive enough that attitude will carry her through and allow her to convince the guys that she's hotter than an objective eye would allow - and Ted, bless him, already has the look of the stodgy middle-aged Fortune sim he's going to become. Something about the default expression his features give him. It hides an artistic soul though - his LTW is to reach the top of the dance career and his OTH is Arts and Crafts.
Layers! Our sims have layers!

I LOVE the Ottomas family, ugliness and all. They are some of my favorite sims! I said I'd try not to let them have kids though, to keep those genes far away from the gene pool lol, but I gave in to them. David just had his first daughter and Sharla just had twins, and though they are obviously of Ottomas genes, they are not nearly as bad as I thought they would be; David's daughter (thankfully) inherited most of her mother's (Angela Pleasant) looks, and Sharla's twin girls are also cute in their own way. I think they will grow into their features, though!
I learned just how helpful smart milk is when there are toddlers in the house! I always knew it was a nice reward item, but I never bothered to make the counter space and time to make the milk everytime I wanted to have a learning session with my toddlers. Today I tried it with Sharla's twin girls and now they're both potty trained in 2 sittings! Wahoo!

I feel pretty good about breeding Ted Ottomas to Harriet Hawkins, because I can see, in the children produced in my Hawkins-Newson marriages, that my extreme cartoony features are easy to breed out. By marrying a couple of unpretty sims I should be guaranteed unpretty, individual children.
Although I have to say I'm very disappointed in the regularity of feature I got breeding craggy-faced Garrett Newson to a camel-faced CAS sim. But they're only one kid in and she's still a toddler; maybe the next one will be homelier, and the first one will grow out of her features.

Combine a Smart-Milked toddler with a trainer who's wearing a Thinking Cap, and potty training takes only one session, if bladder motive is very low, or if you have the fall skilling boost working for you. :)
You don't usually need more than one bottle of smart milk per toddler, by the way. The effect tends to get "stuck", and sometimes a second bottle will actually negate the effect of the first. This also means the boost doesn't go away when the toddler stops glowing, and that you can give them their one bottle of smart milk any time - not just before a training session.
Pescado's Lot Debugger/Batbox can be used to see a sim's IQ level. Useful for knowing if the smart milk is in effect. Normal sim intelligence is 100. Sims with the smart milk boost in effect will be at 300.

Does the IQ boost help the Sim through her whole life? Or just when toddler training?
It depends if it gets "stuck" or not. If it doesn't get stuck, the IQ boost lasts for however long your toddler stays glowing (and repeated smart milk will give the IQ boost again). If the smart milk effect does stick, then if circumstances allow it, sims can keep it for their entire life -- in my game sims get smart milk stick, and continue to have the increased IQ until they move out (which is, generally speaking, when they go to university) or are reset thanks to an error (but a mod in testing on MATY, from Seasons onwards under the hack directory (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7.0.html) prevents the IQ boost loss upon the sim resetting).

I think I've had the smart milk bug stick up through teen, but that's rare. It usually only lasts through to kid, if that, for me.
Also, the batbox can be used to give any sim a 300 IQ. It tends to be fragile (more like smart milk ought to work?), but it's there. I rarely use it, but it's nice to give adult CAS sims with no skills a boost toward catching up to their born-in-game peers.

Eldavis, I smiled when I read your siggie. After all these years, I still am absolutely in love with toddlers. I love to watch their little backsides wiggle when they crawl, and their little arms held out to their sides as they walk. I like to watch them play with their toys, and just puddle up inside whenever I come up on one whose just sitting there singing a nursery rhyme. I have a serious simmie maternal crush on their adorability. They are too cute, aren't they? When I switched to sims 3, I just couldn't believe the creators had gotten rid of all that adorableness.

I love having some cheap art (that deliciously tacky flamingo comes to mind) as a quick way to boost some fun.
You can also invite another sim to join in the viewing, and the two will sit there appraising it as if it were some fine work of art, instead of just a pink plastic flamingo. Always worth a laugh.

After many years of playing, I found out an awesome thing, well for me it IS awesome :D
If a part of household moves out, a new family they form take up the Last Name of a Sim who initiated the moving out process!
For example, how I often play: a family with an adult daughter, who falls in love with a townie. Townie moves in with them but after awhile the pair is ready to move out and start a family of their own. I would always make the daughter to look for a new place, dunno why, it's like as if the moved in fiancée has no rights to decide yet :D
So after she and fiancée move out, they form a new household using the left behind family's Last Name and I always thought that how it's supposed to be. After they get married at their own place, I'd go to SimPe to change the household's name to the husband's Last name. And this is how I played for years.
This time I made the guy Sim to look for a new place and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the new household automatically got his Last Name! Oh joy!

I was shocked to discover that the "go to jogging" interaction builds body skill!
My sim had a want to reach skill 9 in body, and it was almost done, I locked it in order to have it fulfilled right before her carpool comes to reach platinum mood. The wish got fulfilled while she was jogging out of having nothing better to do, though. Now I can see that such a big waste of energy and hygiene was not designed in vain...

That's nice, I forgot that you can ask sims to join! But I'd rather have sims not appreciate art objects autonomously or at least not laugh hysterically. Once I already wrote in another thread that sims on my community graveyard laugh at the dead, whose paintings are hung above their graves.:faceslap:They also laugh at the frescas in the temple of the local goddess, which is totally unacceptable for my story. And I shudder to imagine what would happen if I created a museum... unless it's a museum of comic art.

Um - no, Aegeropilon; jumping rope will improve fitness! It may not work as fast as yoga, swimming, ice skating, etc., but it does work; and it's more fun than yoga plus more convenient than going to a community lot for the others. Cooper Hawkins is married to a woman with fitness as a turn-on, and he got rid of his gut for her almost entirely by jumping rope.
He's in constant danger of losing it because her other turn-on is cooking skill and Cooper is nothing if not diligent about keeping his woman turned on; also, they fish a lot. And of course fitness decays, but body won't, so it's easy to have a fat sim with lots of body points, I find.

Really? I hadn't noticed that with the EPs that I have loaded. Are you sure you didn't download the fix from MATY?
Or maybe because sims like Buck and Verity are so SO low in fitness that it doesn't make any measurable difference?

Quite sure I've downloaded no fix. My athletes - Clovis, Sadie, and Greg - got fit in college on jumping rope alone (it took me forever to start doing the yoga) long before I was driven to find online resources by the disastrous Interrupted Date Glitch, which happened long after those three had graduated.
It's hard as the dickens to get and keep a truly fat sim fit - I wouldn't worry about it if I were you! I've found that sims I created overweight in CAS are nearly impossible to keep fit.

I noticed that rope jumping helps with raising fitness, too, it just happens very very slowly.
Come to think of it, I noticed that with different sims the speed of gaining fitness is visibly different. Some can gain it more or less quickly, although not comparably to normal exercising, others can jump to max out body skill and still lack a tiny bit to become fit. No idea what that depends on.

Highly Active sims gain Body skill faster.
Studying Physiology helps sims gain body skill faster also, but there's a glitch associated with studying physiology whereby sims gain ALL skills insanely fast, instead of just getting a modest gain on body skill alone. Pescado has a fix (eta: alfixes) for this, though, for those who prefer not to exploit that glitch.

Simkids seem to play favorites as far as which parent they hug when that parent returns from work. When the Beaker twins were kids, Surt always hugged Circe and Siggeir always hugged Loki. And Verity always hugged Lazlo when he returned from work, but rarely hugged Crystal when she returned from work. And the Curious twins didn't seem to really care either way when either Pascal or Bella returned from work; they were too busy being smarmy tech addicts. Aldous sometimes runs and hugs Stella when she comes home from work; I'll have to keep an eye on his twin siblings and see if they run for her when they become kids.

There's an oddity in the game coding which causes children to favor one parent over the other -- there's a fix by tunaisafish (http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=6965.msg140383#msg140383) on Simbology.

That's very interesting, I'd never guess that there are favorites! :)
Btw, an accidental discovery or rather a small abuse of the game:
It always bugged me that sims who phone over your sim invite them downtown. I was too impatient to wait till Downtown loads, and even PMed a few mod makers to ask if it was possible to make a mod that lets you choose non-downtown destination from the location menu in such cases. But I got no response.
The solution turned out to be accidental and easy. Just don't go to the taxi when it arrives, wait until the message "You'd better head to a community lot, you don't want to stand X up" pops up. Only after that go to a community lot, and you'll have a full menu available, not only downtown locations. That's very handy :)

Hmm, I've seen something different.
I don't know if its because I have the hugging hack (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/samples/ts2/index.php?dir=al%2Fhacks%2F look for hugginghack if you want it) but I found that when Puck and Hermia got home at the same time, it was in their daughter's queue to hug both. I canceled both hugs so she could finish her food.
She is best friends with both parents.
Peni Griffin
12th Oct 2011, 08:08 PM
I don't have a hugging hack, and I've seen that, too, when the parents get home at the same time. Generally it's a timing issue which one drops out, but if you have two kids they may split up the parents by mutual consent. The period when the Munny kids were kids and both parents came home at four was brief, but generally speaking, Frank, the half-alien, would be the one to hug Ernest and Mark, the normal birth, would hug Sage Ann. This made a lot of sense to me given the biological reality in that family.
If parents aren't getting home at the same time, and there's only one child, both parents are likely to get hugged in my families. John Amos Aerius used to meet his Pa at the mailbox to show him his good grades in the afternoon, and would also get up at 3 AM to run down and hug his Dad when he got home from a gig. This is the only kid in my neighborhood who woke up for the action, but probably that's because if I put a kid down for a nap after school he's exhausted and at best has a half-full energy bar by the time the parent gets home, while John Amos would be about ready to wake up and finish his homework anyway.

Pascel (JR) fell in love with a cheerleader Jade Rara and I thought I would go mad with the constant noncancelable cheer. So I gave/fed her to the cowplant called up the grim reaper and no more school cheer. Now it looks like Nervious (JR) has fallen for the new cheerleader. OH LORDY these twins are going to drive me nuts.
THANK YOU FOR THIS.
I wonder if it also works for other NPCs that retain their NPC-behavior once they become playables; namely, being able to enter a home uninvited. Brandi Broke married an npc and he's become the neighborhood creep. I cannot count the times I found him sitting on the computer looking up hobbies while the rest of the family were fast asleep.

That it isn't a good idea to hit delete when you get an error from CC in game and have no clue what it means. It was some sort of stack object message and I thought it was asking me to delete some sort of error log...instead I deleted Laurel, my toddler. Luckily I had saved prior to this and I just exited to t he neighborhood screen. Gonna go to a different household for a while. :faceslap:
Oh, and sims 2 fires are kind of lame. Everyone but Tybalt Capp was out of the house so I made him tired, sent him to start cooking a tv dinner and put him to bed. (I put the appliances in a bedroom and blocked the exits.) They don't last very long. I miss the blazing TS3 infernos. There was this one house that for some reason the floor would just catch on fire. There used to be a fire place but I went and deleted it after it set the living room on fire. I would watch to see how far it had spread when there was nothing to do back at my lot. :heyhey:
And, apparantly you can smash urns. Hermia Capp thought it would be lovely to smash her parent's urns into smithereens. SMH.

Sims tend to break urns if they are in aspiration failure (Did you move her dad's grave inside? at the beginning of the game, her mom's and grandma's urns are inside, and rest of the dead relatives are in the grave yard including her dad.)
Speaking of her mom's urn, does Cordelia's ghost act like a total B**ch in anyone else's game? I found out the hard way that Cordelia's ghost is majorly angry about dying in the fire.
She scared Tybalt and Hermia twice and Consort FIVE times all in one night. She also broke a lamp and a phone, in the same night. I now move her urn, Contessa's urn and the graves in the grave yard to a community lot grave yard so she doesn't wreck havoc on the living.

Consort is a perv. I once had him living with Tybalt and his wife Melissa Fugly. Yes, she looked like name. Anyway Tybalt and Melissa were honeymooning. It was pre Seasons so I had their bed set up on the big porch overlooking the rolling lawn. She had just slipped into a very honeymoonish nightie I got from Sexy Sims and the couple lay down to woohoo. Suddenly, I realized Consort was staring at them out of the window. And smiling. It was years ago and I still get grossed out every time I see him. Yuuuuck

Yes, eldavis, a tree fire happens by lightning strike. The sims panic about them just the same as usual, but normally the rain puts them right out because most trees don't have other flammable things right around them.
It might not have been a tree, either, now I think of it. It might have been one of the tall shrubs. However, I would assume that shrub and tree fires work the same way.
There is a glitch that causes trees to burn forever, catch fire again, burn invisibly even after you delete the tree, and possibly other annoying things; but there is a known fix for it. I've never had it, only read about it, so I don't know if that one spreads. I think it just tanks the environment score because garden club ladies can see it when nobody else can.

I'm literally laughing out loud at this. If I decide to play TS3 again some time (I probably will. I go through phases with games. I get bored, stop playing, come back, lather rinse and repeat.) I'm definitely making a Fugly family to put in Twinbrook.
Regarding the urns, I just assumed it was her parent's. I definitely play favorites with my sims, so Hermia really isn't getting much attention. I really want to kill off Consort. He won't leave poor Juliette alone... I think I'll just move Juliette out. I don't like the rest of the Capp family.
I revoke my statement about TS2 fires being lame. I left my game running while I went to use the bathroom. I come back and the kitchen is on fire. Of course, Juliette decided to drop dead in front of the phone so no one was able to reach the FD. (I moved Juliette and Hermia into the Monty house.) So Mercutio is at work when it started. He had just pleaded for Hermia's life with Grimmy and was successful, at least the first time. After he left, Juliette set the stove on fire and the ENTIRE kitchen caught on fire. So the Sims did their sim fire dance...and all died. Good day for Grim, bad day for the residents of the Monty ranch.

That - would be really cool. The only alien toddler I've had so far danced to the stereo all the time, but never floated.
I discovered that it can be a good thing to take an aspiration hit on a date! I had a teen go out with the boy she's been obsessing over since elementary school, running her with his wants closed to reflect the awkwardness of the first date. The first time she asked what he wanted, he said he wanted to be friends with the girl he just broke up with - a bad sign! Next time she asked, he wanted to eat out with her, so they did that; and then he wanted to sing a duet with her. Great; except she's very shy and had a fear of the karaoke machine! But his OTH is music and dance and he's been living it, so I decided, given the level of interest she had in him, that she would suck it up and sing with him. He took his aspiration gain, she took her hit (and was visibly uncomfortable; it was almost painful to watch), and the wants scrambled to flirt-kiss-backrub-makeout; so they did that for awhile and then, since the level wasn't quite at dream date and she wanted that, she asked what he wanted again. Photo booth picture - which was a -1,500 fear for her! But I like having photo booth pictures to put on walls and she was platinum, so she sucked it up again, got her dream date, did some more kissing etc. (some of it autonomous on his part!); and then I had her end the date as it was the wee hours of the morning. She complained about ending the date; and then after he left, autonomously got on the karaoke machine!
So I think she conquered that fear and she should be able to make money for the stuff she wants to buy, which her parents can't afford, by busking in the future.

Shy sim by any chance? The game coding pulls in the "shy dance" for toddlers, but as none exists it pulls the adult (?) one instead, leaving the toddlers floating in the air. I've had the holiday stuff pack and I've never used it beyond a few of the decorations, so I decided to have Christmas at the Cochran residence since it was winter. Gloria baked the cookies and before she could place the cookies on the counter I heard Santa upstairs, I was disappointed because I wanted to see how he entered (if he appeared or came down the chimmney-there are 3 fireplaces in the house). Anyway, perhaps because of how the tree was positioned, he left a gift "in the stairs" and proceeded downstairs to eat his cookies. Gloria and Bertrum went back to bed but Santa didn't leave. When Bertrum and Gloria woke up to get ready for work Santa was in the bathroom. I had to have Bertrum clean-up the cookie plate to get rid of Santa.

Any teen+ sim who's not too playful can meditate once they've got three logic skill points. Then, after about 50 cumulative hours of meditation, they gain the ability to teleport.
They don't normally spontaneously disappear while in meditation, though. Unless you clicked Teleport without realizing it, that was a glitch.

Not a glitch before a sim learns to teleport when they reach a certain level in meditation the can disappear and reappear while levitating sometimes moving from one side of the Zen Garden to reappear on the other side. This is not the first time I've seen this. However, some sims as is this one have hidden skills, they are already advanced in certain areas. What surprised me is that this is the first time that Bertrum has meditated ever. Hidden Skills do not require the same amount of time spent working on a particular skill. His wife Gloria has maxed her logic skill is on stage 1 of meditating all she can do right now is breathe and make the hand movements.

I wasn't playing when I learned this. I was poking around in SimPE, and found that dead sims get memories for important family events - growing up well, good grades, getting engaged - that happened after their deaths! Jon Smith Tricou even knows which of his descendants has been on academic probation!
It's kind of touching.
They also seem to retain the wants and fears they died with. The ghost of Spring Thyme, a teen who died in a fire last rotation, wants to go steady with Tommy Ottomas and fears his death. Too bad by the time he can resurrect her (which is his plan at the moment) they'll be in different age categories and they'll fall out of love.

I've had a looooot of experience with meditating sims (a handy skill during Apocalypse Challenges, which I've done a whole lot of), and have never had one spontaneously disappear. So I'm guessing this is something that happens specifically when they're meditating in the Zen Garden? I've never had a sim meditate in one. As I stated this is not a new occurance in my game, it was new for the sim in question. I can't say if it's something specific to the Zen Garden, however, it is the only place I've seen it happen. My sims often take vacations and I have a neighborhood Zen Garden. So perhaps this is an added benefit from Bon Voyage who knows, all I know is that I have a few sims who have this special skill. My sims who teleport learned to do so from the Ninja. Just when we think we've seen all Sims 2 has to offer there are still hidden surprises for us.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/Orilon/Bethjoke.jpg
I had sent Beth Monty (daughter of Antonio Monty and his second wife) on a date with Demetrius Summerdream (Titania and Oberon's son born in game). I meant to have Beth tell an inside joke to Demetrius, but Demetrius was standing next to an adult Desdemona Capp. Beth ended up telling a regular joke to Desdemona.
I'm just glad it was just a joke to Desdemona instead of something romantic to another guy.

I THINK I may have been seeing things, but it seemed like today, my sim refused to use her toilet!
I had built a new little cottage for my self-sim. Like all sims, when she moved into the gutted building, some of her first wants were the basic, "buy a toilet," "buy a fridge," and so on. So I decorated her house and then moved back into live mode. She immediately got the want bonus for the items.
However, a few minutes later I realized that I didn't have a smoke alarm, and only 50-something dollars to my name! So I went back, deleted her expensive toilet, and purchased a cheaper one in order to buy the alarm. When I went back into live mode, she of course got hit with the penalty for selling the item back so soon.
I later directed her to use her new toilet and she walked into the bathroom, and then waved her arms in refusal, dropping the toilet from her queue! It happened so quick, Im not sure if I saw things correctly! But once I redirected her to use the toilet, she did so without any complaint.
I'll try to recreate this another time and see if I was correct!

As I know, Bon Voyage Zen Garden always allows Sims to levitate and teleport (only) from one end to another. And I assume it doesn't contribute Meditation skill, because after doing that, I commanded my Sim to meditate as usual, and he couldn't teleport.

Nope, outside is considered to be one big room, although I imagine if one used carpet dividers outdoors, you could have individual rooms outside, just like inside.
Funny thing is when you're giving the Headmaster a tour and show him the "room" that is outside, he'll "see" (and score) the whole yard, even he's in the front and all the environment-raising items are in back, out of line-of-sight.

When Difficult Subject was a toddler, her favorite toy (besides her adoring father) was the toilet. She could make a horrendous mess in no time flat. That is why abortbedmaking (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/samples/ts2/index.php?dir=al%2Fhacks%2F look for abortbedmaking) is one of my favorite mods by Pescado.
From the Read Me File:
"Tired of Sims suddenly going into an obsessive-compulsive bed-making spree that
you can't stop even if you X it out well before they get to the bed because
they suddenly got this pointless urge from across the room? This hack makes
"Make Bed" abortable like everything else, so if you X it out before they
begin, the behavior will cease. No longer will your Sims waste an hour making
the bed and miss work. Who the hell actually does this, anyway? You're just
gonna sleep in it again."

OMG, Goz and Kitty Hawkins classic danced, even though they're elders!?!
I didn't tell them to - they've wanted to repeatedly since Goz aged, and I couldn't get the interaction. But I was letting them amuse themselves (i.e. spontaneously canoodle, which is always their fallback activity) while I dealt with the teens and newlyweds, and there they were. I assumed it was a slow dance at first, since the two dances are visually almost identical, but as my cursor passed over Kitty's thumbnail in the corner the words "classic dance" popped out at me.
This bit of discriminatory coding now makes even less sense to me than it did, but - hey, they did it, they liked it, I'm happy. Their daughter is less so, since they were dancing on the back porch and blocked her way to her boyfriend, but she'll survive.

I haven't played Mitch's household, so I couldn't remember if he or his roommate were the Family sim. Sim chemistry is really pretty easy to predict, when you know aspiration and zodiac compatibility. Aside from incompatible turn-ons/turn-offs your Delilah and Mitch have, they should be a good pair with Knowledge/Family, Cancer/Libra combos both going for them. (Libra likes Cancer; Cancer is neutral toward Libra.)
So, the fact that they have negative chemistry may have to do with relationship status. Some sims get off on the wrong foot (not sure how/why this happens) and start with negative chemistry, but when they get to know each other better, it goes up.
As for changing turn-ons/turn-offs, there are MUCH quicker, easier ways to do it than with SimPE. In-game, there's the Renu-U Senso Orb. The Lot Debugger or Sim Blender can also be used, and there's at least one buyable ReNuYu potion (http://parsimonious.org/furniture2/modded/k8-Panacea.shtml) available as well.

Edwin doesn't have to find a job, you know...If I want two sims to max their love, and something's off in their turn-ons and turn-offs, I change it, usually with the potion. All teens who grew up in game get one and only some of them need it, so there's usually someone who can give it to the affected sim as a gift; if not, the orb isn't that expensive.
The trick is to pick the turn-ons and turn-offs that will keep on giving through the years; or to be prepared to play the consequences of somebody losing a quality that their spouse finds attractive.

I'm considering changing that Turn on of hers. That was one of the Turn Ons she came with the first time I played Académie Le Tour, but since it looks like it may affect her chemistry with her husband, I'm trying to figure out one that won't.
I usually try to fill Sims LTWs and since Edwin's is being the top of the Entertainment career I am trying to find him a job in the Entertainment career.

I just realized that a turn-on for the unemployed won't necessarily negatively affect chemistry if Edwin gets a job. It just won't have a positive effect on chemistry either. It would be a problem if she had a turn-off for employed sims, but since that's not what we're looking at...
So, you may not actually need to change anything, unless that one turn-on is tipping the balance in favor of current chemistry, and that's not likely unless they're only barely compatible as it is, with regard to aspirations and zodiac signs.
On the other hand, if they're at two bolts now, changing the TOs/TOs of each to match the other in all cases will probably put them at three bolts. :)

Edwin finally found a job in the Entertainment career, and they are still at two bolts. I'm going to leave it as is unless something comes up down the road.
I may be weird, but if I have three bolt couples I change their turn ons/turn offs so they change to two bolts. Three bolt couples drive me up the wall.
I just learned how getting to the to of the Entertainment Career is a little against Edwin's personality. He needed Charisma points for his job, but when I told him to "Practice Speech" in the mirror to get the Charisma points, he walked up the stairs slumped like I told him to face a firing squad. Ugh.

I have two identical sims in every way except one has black alien eyes one has brown human eyes, one has Circe's tan skin, the other is as pale. Other then that they both have faces closer to the look of their dads, Circe's eye brows, and they both have alien noses. AH an obvious lesson in how Sims genetics work because these two defently demistrate how things can be inherited.

Yeah I discovered each sim is differnt when it comes to food poisening and babies. I have had some females with iron stomachs who could eat bad food, and/or be pregnant and never throw up. Other times I can also get sims that are like vomit factory's.

Totally agree. Like hair color. They get old, it gets gray. So I try to pick traits like great cook, creative...basically skill-based. Someone who finds red hair attractive will probably find their spouse not quite so attractive once they age to elder.

Sims can use "read to sleep" on teens, and you don't have to be a relative or even have a particularly good relationship to do it. I have an asylum property and one of the patients is a teenage girl. Every single time she goes to sleep, this one creepy old guy hustles over to read her to sleep. It's really disturbing.

I could tell by looking at the House of Fallen Trees that certain elements would drive me crazy and were also driving up the cost of the house to no good purpose. So when it appeared that Tricou descendent Lora Wolosenko was going to be able to fulfill her dream of buying back the old family estate after she got married, I went in and shallowed the heck out of that basement, grunged up the walls and floors, and reconfigured some of the rooms to deal with obvious problems. The family (Lora, her husband, two of her half-siblings, a former roommate, and a gestating bastard, in the family tradition) moved in with only about a hundred dollars to spare plus the stuff in their inventories. Only played it one day so far, and spent most of it fighting off the case of flu one of the half-siblings picked up. Nobody's been to the basement, (where I left the coffins; they seem required) and nobody's seen a ghost yet. But I have hopes. I think one of the half-siblings will try to set up a home beauty salon in that big front room, just because I haven't played with the OFB stuff at all yet.
One thing I learned by reading up ahead of time is, that it will always be too dim in that house, however many lights I invest in.

I never was able to get very deep in the basement to see the coffins so I didn't know they were there until the person posted about it. It looks like it would be a pain in the rear to play, so I don't think it's a loss to not have the money to buy it.

Coffins seem to "advertise" strongly, which can really be a hassle. There are mods to keep non-vampires from using them autonomously. (I don't remember if I actually have one myself, and it's been awhile since I had a vampire.)
Just so you know, coffins are over-rated for vamps anyway. Having vampires meditate during the day tends to be safer, because vampires may leave their coffins for various reasons, but there's not much that will knock one out of meditation.

I learned that when a stray gets stuck and tries to leave the lot and cannot, it takes its frustration out on whoever's at home. Case in point -- Alia somehow got herself stuck on the side of the fence that completely blocks off the back of the lot (Wanted the family to live in front of a "makeshift forest" if you will), and when all her motives went down and she tried to leave and couldn't, she kept getting the Declining Relationship sign over her head. I made her selectable and it seems every time she tried to leave and failed the more she grew to hate all the sims that were at home -- the mother and father were at -100/-100 and the kids that had just came home were at -25/-13!

I made all the pre-made Uni students at Sim State drop out without graduating. Only one I let graduate was Jane Stacks. Most of the boys moved into a lot together. The girls got their own lot. I use the pre-made sims as employees for my businesses.
Today, I decided to check out what the boys would be up to, so I played them a while after I finished with a little remodeling of their house. I don't care that much about these sims because they just annoy me and most are very lazy slobs. So I decided to just watch them after they ate supper with 6 townies on their lot visiting.
Most of the guys kept busy after supper cleaning up the dishes of their guests.
Jared Starchild decided it was a good time to eat out of the rubbish bin. Because I hate sloppy sims, the sims I create usually have at least 4 neat points. In Uni, I didn't know just how much a slob Jared was - I was too busy planning on staggering the dropouts. The sims that weren't in class had to go fishing or work the garden, so I really micromanaged them.
Letting the full household of boys do whatever they wanted for a change, I found it amusing to see Jared eating out of the trash ALL night. He got started when he was cleaning supper dishes and didn't stop until 4 in the morning. I had no idea sims would eat of the trash for so long! Honestly, he wasn't hungry since they had just finished eating and his hunger bar was maxed. I wonder if he will be sick after eating trash tomorrow morning. It would be interesting if he got sick and infected the entire house.
Then they could all die. Giving me some pre-made amusement.
I can hope.
Several times I crossed off the "eat from trash" action from Jared's queue but New actions I gave him were cancelled and replaced with the eat from trash option. When all the other guys were in bed I queued a bunch of actions for Jared and he finally stopped digging in the trash. By that time, nearly all his needs were in the red. Except hunger, of course. I sent him to the restroom to clean up for bed, fully expecting him to pass out before making it to bed.

Good work. I have a vampire clan living there, consisting of 3 vampires, 1 former vampire, one vampire sympathiser and now 2 non-vampire children. That basement is cool and atmospheric and it takes some mouse or keyboard fu to be able to swoop in and zoom to make that area playable.
If a vampire is walking up the stairs it takes about a game hour to get to the main floor. Flying is faster, but there is only that one long stairway, and even then, the vampires sometimes complain about the path being blocked. And if there is a toddler in the house, they sometimes hang out at the top of the stairwell, wanting to reach mummy vamp downstairs, confusing the pathfinding even more.
I got to try messing with the layout like you have. IMO, easier gameplay is the most important aspect of house design.
The detached garage in the back is also a bit of an issue. I think it might be better to remove it and replace with a short driveway for the vampire's trusty beater. This would make it faster to get to the car and stop confusing the paperboy and other visitors who act as if the garage is the front door
Other notes: Lots of ghosts in the backyard, though they have never come into the house. As for lighting, it is a dark house by default and so I use minimal lighting ... I think it adds to creepiness. Most rooms lack electricity. And unlike other houses, the stereo is usually off... the usual ambient sound is footsteps. And bat squeaks. Followed up by a Bleh or two. Good times!

Regarding gardens, in the beginning, my sims' gardens were too big. These days, I don't go over 12 plots, and often keep it to just six. Unless you're growing food to sell to other sims, 6-12 plots is more than enough to keep a family in fresh food and juice.
Fruit trees are the hardest food plants to keep healthy. They need to be watched closely, and the quicker they're tended to when they need it, the better they do. I wouldn't recommend having more than three (one of each type, or whatever combo meets your sims' needs) in the beginning. Once there's a sim with a gold gardening badge who can Talk to them, more will be easier to handle.
Also, as Peni said, if a family's garden is going to be of any significant size, it's a good idea to have a family member with lots of time on his/her hands who can make the garden their priority. :)

According to the gameplay guide here on the site (a useful resource with which we should all be familiar), the probability for twins is between 5% and 10% per birth; higher if a parent is a twin; and of course higher yet if the parent has the Superfertility aspiration benefit. If the mother eats cheesecake (OFB) during the pregnancy, it's a guarantee. I'm not sure whether the uncertainty in the exact amount of the chance is the result of that bit of code being inaccessible, so that it's necessary to reverse engineer the probability from the number of multiple births across a large number of games; of whether there's an additional level of randomness built into the random number generator determining the matter - which would be an odd thing for the people who gave us Firstborn System to do, but the ways of programmers are mysterious, especially if they have supervisors breathing down their necks, are dealing with office politics, or work in isolation from other coders on related projects. (I have no idea what it was like to work on the Sims2 development team, but I've worked in plenty of offices, and all those contingencies are likely to the point of certainty.)
It would also surprise me a great deal if there were no chance of mixed-sex sets of twins in Sims3, but I was shocked to find out they had no storytelling tool, so you can't go by me.
http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Pregnancy
Pedantry Alert.
BTW, without a mod ALL sims pregnancies are fraternal, since the term only means that they came from two eggs separately inseminated, rather than from a single egg that split after insemination, which is how identical twins happen. Meaning that regardless of gender, all non-identical twins are fraternal, and no sims twins are identical due to the same mechanism that makes so many sims of different ages clones of each other.

Actually, all Sims 2 twins are fraternal. Even in the extremely rare cases where they look exactly the same, it's completely coincidental, because physical characteristics (as well as gender and personality) are generated separately for each child.
I don't know what the default chances are, and to hear people talk, it the incidence of natural twins seems to vary widely from game to game. In my game, they're not super common, but I wouldn't call them rare either. I could be wildly off, but I'd venture to estimate maybe one birth out of... 10-12 are natural twins.
Are you aware of the cheesecake phenomenon? If a pregnant sim eats cheesecake at any point during her (or his ) pregnancy, twins will be the result. We call these "cheesecake twins".

There is also what's known as a "pregnancy token" -- an invisible memory linked to a sim which increases the chance of natural twins (it's called "Pregnancy - Token Modifier" if you look in a sim's memories in SimPE). It's an easy way to see if a sim of yours will give you a higher chance of natural twins; I only started to look when one of my sims got hit by risky woohoo three times and had twins two out of those three (yup, she had the pregnancy token).
Edit:
no sims twins are identical due to the same mechanism that makes so many sims of different ages clones of each other.
Theoretically you can get identical twins -- all it requires is for the two sims to get the same genetic roll without being a result of first-born syndrome; and I know I've had my share of twins (or more) who were almost identical save for one facial feature -- but I've never seen anyone having completely identical (facial structure, hair/eye colour and same sex) twins (or more).

Even if the Family sim just gave birth and doesn't have a want for a baby, she'll try for baby the next time ACR kicks in and get pregnant right away. I should have turned on birth control but too late now.
I haven't played Pleasantview for awhile so I forgot how much of a Family Sim Cassandra Goth is. She just gave birth to her daughter with Darren Dreamer, and shortly after ACR kicked in and she tried for baby and got pregnant even though she doesn't have a baby want in her panel. (Usually family sims have the baby want) *Sigh*

I've found that the want only shows up after the baby has aged into a toddler. It's torture raising toddlers and infants at the same time.

I know. That's what I'm dealing with at the Dreamer house right now. Anna became a toddler and then Cassandra gave birth to their son several hours after she aged so I'm dealing with a toddler and an infant and its driving me up the wall. I wish that I would have had room for Dirk to stay and help but I moved him to college because the Dreamer house isn't big enough.
Edit. Never mind had a big glitch when Lilith Pleasant moved into a dorm and had to put in an old back up. I like her but I don't want two of her. (She somehow got cloned when she moved into the dorm. )

I discovered that my sims haven't gotten a cold in such a long time, that I'm actually pleased with my household of 4 all sick with cold! I am amused at watching them all sneeze :D!

I was playing the Dreamer house to get Cassandra and Darren married again since I had to put in that back up, and discovered that lightning can set outside support beams on fire.
I've seen tree and telescope fires before, but I've never seen a support column on fire before.

A fun fact: hygiene is tanked by reading Sci-Fi
It must be a simulation of that situation when you think you're sitting at home and reading Sci-Fi, when in fact you've been snatched by aliens and are actually subjected to some really messy testing.
Now I'm hoping someone kind will tell me that my stinking Sims can be saved form the evil aliens, because they really don't exist, and it's all my fault: a conflict of some CC, a really nasty hair recolor that somehow messed my game, anything.

I'm confused. Do you want to get the alien option back, or would you like me to call a town hall meeting with your sims and let them in on the no-alien secret. If the former, you are just going to need to remove cc until you discover the conflict.

I think Simscia wants to know if the hygiene loss is directly related to reading Sci-fi or if its related to CC conflicting.
I only have my Sims study skills, not read Sci-fi or any other genre. They lose hygiene but not at any big rate. To find out if its CC you're going to need to remove CC and see if the hygiene improves or not.

Sci-Fi novels tanking hygiene is perfectly normal -- the other novels do similar things, from what I recall (or at least Romance increases social; never seen it but I would imagine a cooking book would reduce the hunger motive [how can looking at delicious food not make you hungry).

It does. I had a Sim read a cookbook (not study Cooking) when their Hunger motive was fully green...when he was done, it was halfway down.

What I get from your post is basically the Sim "pees" themselves in fear and the hygiene goes down like when they literally pee themselves when they get scared by a ghost.
I'm glad I don't have my Sims read stuff then.

I found that Young Adults cannot be in the community lots if the Final Exam in their 8th semester is due in about 3 hours.
If they're at home, the option to walk to..., calling transportation, and even clicking nearby lot are disabled. If the Sims are already in community lot, the game would inform several hours before the exam begins that Sims should hurry up to go home and prepare for the test. If 3 hours only remains, the game will forcibly send Sim back home, with the option to Save the game or not before they're forced home.

Cats will watch Sims dance. Sometimes if a Sim is dancing, a nearby dog will Jump Around. The cat's probably wondering what's up with these silly Sims, the dog wants in on the action!

They don't have to pee themselves for hygiene to go down. They get into a cold sweat from reading the scary parts.
I'm still trying to get a sim's literature enthusiasm high enough to read while walking. All the other enthusiam gestures kick in much earlier!
Yesterday I was watching two sims have a conversation about jewelry, and the sim who was wearing some turned her head and gestured to show the other her earrings! Cool!

 That IS cool! I've got to start putting earrings on my sims more often! (I wonder if male sims do that? :giggler: )
Another I haven't seen yet is the big wave that friends (BFFs?) will give each other from a distance.

What on earth are they reading? H.P. Lovecraft?

It does happen with BFFs. I've had a lot of Sims become BFFs but didn't see the wave very often.
