View Full Version : What did you discover today while playing the sims?

I've never head of coaches being this way, but I've never had my sims try to interact with a coach either, so who knows?
Anyway, it's specifically Drama profs who act this way. Hard-coded to be in love with everyone they meet. More nefarious than cow mascots that way!

What Darby said, Fivey. Drama professors not only teach drama, they create it. One time I had a married Sim couple who'd had the drama class, and when one of the professors was at their daughter's birthday party, they BOTH got a memory for "Caught Cheating by [insert drama prof's name here]."
You should see them at hobby lots. I sit back and laugh at them.

Drama Professors are glitched (always falling in love and having the lost best friend symbol over their heads) and there are a couple of mods to stop it:
Pescado has a mod to fix the glitchy drama professor: (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/samples/ts2/index.php?dir=al%2F go the link for your latest ep, click on hacks, then click on dramafix.zip)
and Cyjon has a mod to stop professors from visiting: http://drupal.cyjon.net/node/135

The glitches they're prone to are the "lost best friend" and "met self" memories, which is what dramafix fixes, but Drama profs falling in love with everyone is intentional - not a glitch.
Their antics are easy to avoid, though, by simply not having a sim greet them.

Today I discovered just how mean I can be to my sims. I really did not want Samantha Ottomas to have those twins - I know how ugly they grow up. I aged her up to elder, counted to three, then aged her back down to adult. Then I gave her a new, non-pregnant dress, which looked nice on her. It all did no good. She continued to waddle onto community lots, pushing her belly in front of her.
The babies, Mark and Matthew, were born, but I gave no instructions about them. Samantha dropped them on the floor, and went off to work. Grandma Dora was busy giving first David and then Sharla their neatness lessons. Peter stood all day looking down at the screaming babies, making no effort to clean or feed them. David went off to college. When Samantha returned from work, she took Peter off to the hot-tub for a spot of woohoo. By now the warnings about starving babies were coming thick and fast. Samantha got out of the hot-tub, looked at the desperate babies on the floor, and headed for bed. She got as far as the landing before a plague of flies arrived from her outraged goddess.
The surviving Ottomas wept bitterly. Peter kept trying to go to bed, but I cancelled the action each time, determined that he should do something for his baby sons. He spent hours exclaiming over their stink, but never thought of cleaning them. At length he passed out, and woke only to die of starvation.
At last Dora took over the care of the babies, but she herself has only a day to live. She invited in Faith Goodie's husband, to take over. When the time came to quit, my hand trembled over the button. To save, or not to save, that was the question. Hey, they had it coming. Save!

None of my sims were ever IN drama, though. Bernard (the pajama guy in the video) is an economics major, his fiancee is an Art major, his brother majored in Psych, and his brother's wife was a Literature Major. No Drama major.
Also, the professor never showed any signs of jealousy. Might be because of ACR, but I don't know. Anyway, I threw the poor guy a bone and let him boink Jimmy Phoenix (who rolled as gay in ACR and was getting kind of lonely).

If it makes you feel any better, I purposely set Samantha on fire and killed her. Of course, Peter got remarried to Brandi Broke, but I still killed his wife and unborn babies.

Aspiration points for family sims - I used the aspiration points to increase fertility on one of my challenge couples. I didnt even know it was an option and because I am doing the test of time challenge I never go into the rewards and such because we cant use them anyway. Did I just use it on the wife lol nope I tapped out both husband and wife. She was pregnant at the time and of course delivered twins ! They are just starting out as adults so this could be a very long and very large family :faceslap:

LOL I tend to agree with this (I usually find cow mascots to be more amusing than annoying as well), but I can't say I have much experience with the Drama profs. Few of my YAs are ever drama majors.

@musicologist: do you have a hack that keeps them from swarming babies? 'cause mine queue up in line almost to feed the damn things as long as their awake. I have to uber god-hand my families with infants (which is nearly all my families right now as I'm playing the ToT challenge and making babies all the time is required right now) to keep them away from the kids. They are seeming to ignore my "stay away from the baby" mods. perhaps I need to go get pescado's baby mod, even if it is too strict for my taste. maybe it'll actually work. ~VP

No, I have no hack. That is why I was so furious with Samantha and Peter - they just would not see to their babies. Dora would have seen to them immediately, but I wouldn't let her. Parents should love their children, and the Ottomas did not. They had it coming.

AND
If you have five points on "Active" if a parent Sims encourages "Activity", that Sim that was encouraged will be able to "Run Here"
As for example:
Tegan could only: "Go Here" and "Skip Here" once her mother taught Activity, she was able to select "Run Here"

My head was too bad to do what I was supposed to do this afternoon, so guess what I did instead?
When I last left Alma Mater House, way too dang long ago, Jovita Casa had gotten engaged to George Hawkins and moved in, but I had other stuff going on and they have now slept next to eachother, as virgins, for two sim nights and more than a month of my time. Obviously, this situation could not be tolerated long - George is a gentleman but he's also human, and Jovita is smart enough to figure out that she needs to give him the sign to proceed before something explodes, and not in the good way. So we're finally getting on with it, and the staging (due to her character arc and the whole dance of conflicting cultural expectations about who's supposed to make which moves) requires that she give him the go-ahead with a couple of romantic interactions, after which he can initiate the date.
Now, we've all seen the fist-pumping "Yes!" that sims do when you tell them to do something that is in-line with their highest characteristic; but how many of you have seen a sim clap her hands at being told to do something that she logically wants to do very much indeed but which is in opposition to her personality points? Because that's what Jovita did when I told her to give George a good Squeeze - clapped her hands and looked straight at me with her little face all lit up!
Ain't love grand?

You can delete a single unwanted object recolour from buy mode using the swatch 'design' tool. Place the object and use the swatch on it, click on the recolour and delete. Won't work if the recolor is currently in use on the lot. No more sorting through the download folder. (The delete button isn't enabled for maxis items)
Also if you make a recolor of the phone or game console and the handsets don't change (which they won't) you can do it manually with the design tool. It doesn't revert on reload. The tutorial on this site suggests cloning the object but if you don't mind doing it this way there won't be an extra item in the catalogue. You can't colour the phone handset while it is hung up though. You can while they are holding it, talking on it or it's on the floor.
I discovered this the other day but it is handy to know.

I've learned that it's immensely fun to smite those busybody coaches who barge in on non-fit students. Had one try to make a couple of the Tricou students work out, though I cancelled it out of their queues both times. First time, I thought he was going to leave, so as he was on his way out, I used the batbox to zap him. He foolishly went back inside, but before he could get in, I zapped him the second time, and when he finished lecturing my student, he peed himself! LOL! That oughtaa teach that bozo to barge in on our fun!
I also learned that on community lots when a head evil witch does the corruptus locus spell and makes it rain, keep your sims out of the water! It started thundering outside as my sim was soaking in a hot spring, and I thought nothing of it until he got struck by lightning. I maxed the motives just in case they got low enough to kill him, because I don't know whether or not the game allows sims to be killed on public lots, and I don't wanna know. Sent him home soon after, and his face cleared up as he left, possibly due to the good witch casting her beutificus locus spell.

Lol me too. I also like getting photos from the photo booth and swapping with a best friend. Eventually they become best friends with just about everyone. This way if you forgot which best friend is the real true first and everlasting BFF, because you play with like 300 sims, they have a photo conveniently on the wall to reminisce with. Everyone can have their own best friend bonded eternally through passport sized photos.

It's semantics. Even though all sims that are not playable are "NPCs", by definition, people generally use NPC to refer specifically to those who have particular roles to play - maid, Grand Vampire, slob, Diva, Evil Witch, repairman, cheerleader, etc.. All those are considered to be service sims.
Everyone else is a townie, downtownie, dormie, etc. No doubt, Amanda falls into this latter category.

That a dream date can drive a Romance sim to act against their aspiration. Romance sims Fortran Curious and Mickey Dosser rolled the wants to get engaged to each other (and both rolling both the fears of engagement and rejection of engagement at the same time).
I'm used to Romance sims rolling engagement/marriage wants during bad dates -- Ripp Grunt rolled the want to marry Chloe Curious during a disasterous date with alien Skuld Astrid, and Chloe's rolled a few marriage/engagement wants during dates as well (just not to Ripp) -- but I've never seen a successful date provoke such wants. I'm rather tempted to make them go through with it .

I think Ripp might make a good Romance/family sim - he might be really good with children, and he's such a sweetheart. Plus, he's so easy to romance, because of his niceness and playfulness, so it can be tempting to get a lot of teen girls to use him to get their first kiss after he falls in love with them. Ripp is an adult in my game now, with a child-aged daughter named Layla. He's such a big kid (and so is Layla's mom Chloe) that he's more of a big brother to Layla than a traditional parent, but Layla adores him and they all have a lot of fun together. And if it wasn't for the housecleaner that Chloe hired, the dirty dishes that they all leave would never get cleared up (if there was the option for it, I'm convinced that they'd all point to themselves and go "Not it!" when it came time to clean up  ). Ripp practically raised his younger brother Buck, so I already knew that he was good with kids even before his daughter was born (and Chloe's no slouch herself: she fostered Uncanny -- who later grew up to marry Ripp's brother Tank -- until she could be reunited with her former stepmother Crystal and half-sister Ruby).

I didn't so much discover this, as put the connections together as I was waking up (from seriously dystopian dreams; obviously my brain was running to sims for relief) this morning, and it's probably wrong.
Of the couples targeted by cow mascots in my game, the only ones that weren't triple-bolters were also the only ones in which the "cheated on" sim appropriately placed blame on the cow mascot and didn't direct a lot of drama toward the partner.
The triple-bolter thing might be an artifact of my game and my tendency to choose rather than roll turn-ons. It wouldn't surprise me to find that they went after the couples with the highest chemistries in any given group of sims. But the forgiving double-bolters implies that the higher the chemistry, the harder the hit to the relationship.
I'll probably think of exceptions after I'm more thoroughly awake.

NPC high witches can be EXTREMELY annoying on player-owned business lots. Every time a high witch appears, she'll cast her signature spell and then summon kitty-kitty, then if a cauldron is on the premises, she'll do that 'stir' interaction you see her doing all the time at her home lot. If it's an opposite alignment, however, she'll run for the bathroom, and then leave.
You can also get service NPCs like the head witches to buy stuff - you just have to show it to them or they will go about their witchy business of hogging your cauldrons and either bringing sunshine or bad weather.
And yet, I still like having them appear as often as they do, because there are at least two of them in each alignment, and I think the second one, who doesn't appear at the witch-lot, might be next in line. I would like to see a few warlocks appear though. Wonder if their personalities will be identical to those of the head good witches(wish they weren't so sloppy though - it's so pointless because I can see their genetic personalities, and those are far more balanced).

If someone builds a snowman on a lot, you can see it in the neighborhood view. Even though it was summer in the neighborhood view and the entire lot of the guys Greek house appeared green, I could still see the little snowman that one of the guys built in the corner of the lot. For some reason they like to build them in that corner right after they return from class. I'm just glad none of them have frozen to death yet. lol
Peni Griffin
29th Apr 2012, 04:45 PM
Mine like to stop in that corner to kick the flamingo somebody left there as a date reward for Castor Nova long, long ago. If two of them come back at the same time they'll both kick the flamingo and then start interacting with each other. It's a bonding experience for them.
rogue_55
29th Apr 2012, 05:11 PM
lol Castor is still there in my game. He has one more semester before he graduates. I think he's the one who built the snowman. I never use the flamingos. I don't know why. No dates have ever left one for any of my sims either. Maybe I'll put one on one of my lots to see if any of my sims will kick it. That sounds amusing.
Peni Griffin
29th Apr 2012, 06:13 PM
Normally I'd remove a flamingo because they're just tacky, but Castor's record was such that I always viewed this particular date reward, for a lukewarm date, as indicating that the lady in question was onto him, so I left it. By now it's a Tradition. Pledging Urele-Oresha-Cham in my neighborhood should be called "signing up to kick the flamingo" or something.
I think what happens is that, any time people come to the lot with a low fun score, they're likely to get attracted to whatever's close to the portal that advertises for fun. This lot is so huge that nothing except the flamingo is remotely close. (The puzzle is why Sage Ann left it there, rather than by the mailbox with the other date rewards. Maybe I moved it.) Your people probably stop there to build a snowman for a similar reason. On other lots with empty space near the portal, sims are constantly stopping to play their handheld games and MP3 players.

I just discovered that sims... or at least Popularity sims, can roll wants to be friends with five different service sims! Found that out after fulfilling Marcus' want to have thirty best friends at once. It was hard, but running a business while using thrones of light helped a lot. Plus, the first set of twins are now teens. And I'm using kitten killer for this hood, though not in a hood with un-modified Strangetown or Veronaville sims due to DNA wonkiness XD

That sounds like a good reason to keep the flamingo, peni. I think you're right about sims wanting to have fun right after they get back from class. Class must be so boring that they don't want to take the time to walk across the entire lot to get to a fun object. At one time I had a basketball net outside on that lot in front of the house, so Ashley Pitts and Joshua Ruben would always go straight to it after class. Ashley cracks me up. I will never forget the first time I made him practice his speech in the mirror, because it was so funny. While I was giving the other guys things to do, I heard Ashley yelling. At first I forgot that I sent him to the mirror, so I thought he was yelling at another sim or something. When I saw that he was making angry faces and yelling at the mirror I started laughing. So, if my guess is correct, sims with very low nice points yell at the mirror when they practice speech.

NOOGIES ARE FUN! Besides at least one of them likes it. Just ask my Sim, Ashton. She liked giving her sister a Noogie, because she had the little green Plus signs over her head. But then again Ashley didn't like it, she had negatives o.O
I discovered that the maid Kaylynn, is too...Well, what is the word I am looking for, open? Would Open be a good word for someone that likes to be in love with a bagillion people, because they give her attention? I think Open is a good word :P
Which comes to a question: Kaylynn is SUPA SHY, so why is she in love with like Don, Daniel, and more than likely a lot of others? Is it because she is too shy to say no back off? Or is it because she just likes attention? Or is it because...I have not a clue, but for some reason this has been bothering me -.-"

It's bothered me too. (And she's a Family sim! What's the deal, EAxis?) My own head-canon is that she's got very bad self-esteem, and being with a (superficially) charming guy like Don makes her feel special. With Daniel-I've said this a couple other places- is that they fell in love on accident. He confided in her about his marriage troubles and other things, and Kaylynn ended up feeling sorry for him. Neither one of them were smart enough to realize that a married man spending all his time with another woman would be risky. :faceslap:

I must be one of the few who feels a tad bit of sympathy for Daniel. Don't know why. Probably because I hate Mary-Sue. She's a bitch to everyone in my game. She was antagonistic to her daughter Angela's baby daddy after he moved in (he did nothing wrong either), and I had to move them out as adults because she attacked him. Daniel? Well, I moved him out due to marital issues. Mary-Sue invited him over to divorce him. Right after she greeted him, he literally BOLTED off into the house, picked up his granddaughter in her crib (Angela was a teen mommy), and cuddled the little baby.

I feel for Daniel and I think the entire Pleasant family backstory is a lot more complicated than it seems. I think Mary-Sue just continued to put her career above her family and her marriage and, to put it bluntly, people have needs. Not just the obvious ones but affection and hand holding and friendly conversation with the people you live with. I think the twins also act out because of the neglect from their parents. Angela became the All-American perfect daughter and Lilith rebelled, but they both just wanted attention. I always repair their relationship because it seems like in that house, they would need each other as allies.
Today I learned that Skip Broke is resurrectable with the genie lamp! I had NO IDEA! I thought he was a goner, since he had no tombstone! I'm torn between bringing him back, though, because Brandi has an adorable budding romance with Armand DeBateau, and she so deserves to have some money for once...

I felt kinda sorry for him, which is why I grilled the guy instead of having the scenario play out as EAxis planned.
Also, I just found out that if you put a bandatron on a community lot that you own, then any witches who come onto the lot have to pay to stay - they don't do the whole beutificus/corruptus locus spells, and the wicked witches can't make hazardous weather or vermin... possibly as long as you ask them to join in fun activities, etc.

I wouldn't do it unless you've got a cleaned up neighbourhood, like the ones by meetmetotheriver. Lots of original dead characters have no character data. Don't know if Skip's one of them, but I know I wouldn't risk it.

That's an actual snapshot of the speech bubble from the game. I've seen what looked to be a blank turn-on/turn-off bubble before, but this was the first time I was zoomed in enough to see that there was text inside the bubble. I haven't tried moving in any of the townies that have that turn-on, though.
I'm not sure if the turn-on/turn-off refers to the tattooed clothing or to tattoos that could be applied, or both (probably to both -- it would explain all of that tattooed clothing :) ). While digging through the object files, I saw a lower back tattoo that wasn't applied to any clothing, suggesting that it was something a sim could get applied somehow. (I also found references to a belly-button ring accessory that was removed from the final release.)

I know I have a blank turn-on/turn-off bubble if the turn-on/off in question is skill-related--like athletic, great cook, etc. If it's something like hair color, glasses, or make-up, then I actually get the picture in the bubble.

I brought that up at the Simbology site. It's been going on for a LONG time, and I reinstalled everything recently (so no, this is not a "My game is busted!" post).
Now on *that* note, I found out that studying Logic from the Education bookcase increases not only Science enthusiasm, but Games (it seems to be a toss-up as to what hobby, one time it'll be Science, another time they study it, it'll be Games).
And Sims that have a high enthusiasm in a hobby will roll wants to earn the skill point related to it--Arts and Crafts and Music and Dance, they'll want to keep getting Creativity skill points. Nature Sims want Cleaning skill points. And this is all aspirations. At least this is what I've observed.

That's because garbage-people are very secretive, so they either come when a) your camera is not directed towards the street and b) when your sims are sleeping, c) when your sims are not on the lot and/or d) a+b.
That would make sense (to me).

Also, I just discovered that teens can't be the DJ while working on a business lot, at least not a family-owned business lot. Weird. I keep trying but it just drops out of their queues the moment I try to make them do it. Also, if you ask a service sim to join in a game of cards or pool... that sim will just keep playing and won't do anything else unless you make that sim selectable and cancel the command out of his/her queue.

I don't know whether it was the saving, or the computer crash, reinstallation, and consequent neighborhood reset, but the Stacks' vacation went like this:
Pop-up: "It looks like no one in your household can lead this vacation. A full refund will be made immediately."
Shuttle shows up anyway, everyone gets on. Arrive at chosen destination at Three Lakes. Can't check in. Can book a tour. Can't End Vacation.
Quit without saving.
Go to neighborhood view; no occupied signs over any of the lots.
Return to main hood.
Enter Stacks house. Family returns, without vacation benefits, with vacation wants.

Okay, to add to my last post, WAY back. Its best to "Appreciate" a sibling or a Sim that is at least decent with your Sim on a Community Lot. Here is why:
When Appreciating over hugging, you will build up, well, for some reason street cred pops up in my head. But your reputation will go up faster, a lot faster actually. And greeting people is always beneficial. The fun part is figuring out which Sim likes which greeting o.O
ALSO, I learned once you've learned a new greeting, and you meet someone that also knows the greeting, you will bow as you walk by. Seriously, my Sims only bow right now. But when others know it, they gesture it repeatedly. I am like:

But yeah, its pretty amazing going on trips. I think that Ashley and Ashton may propose on a trip to whoever they decide to marry. :giggler:
Very awesome and helpful! I always like to keep my sims reputations up, and had learned about reputation fairly early on - early on enough to not want to do anything to piss off townies. I've had sims go on outings and do things like playing and stuff, and they got a fairly good reputation out of it. Makes me not want to leave them as homebodies so much anymore. And my Marcus Coles has a great street cred right now, since he has all the reputation perks thanks to having three high-level businesses.
And right now, his first kid, Willard, can make servos. Marcus also has two employees with gold robot badges, and one with a bronze badge. Running businesses is fun!
Also, I found out that the Benemoodus Populus spell is LOADS better than the rally forth perk... though Rally Forth is fun to watch, and the one doing it gets applause from bystanders XD.
Another thing I found out is that if you don't have someone mind the store, and you decide to leave, the store automatically closes and all employees and customers go home. Pretty nifty!

I found out that when the unsavoury charlaten is on a community lot, you can use the public phone to 'report foul behaviour'! I think that's so cute. Also, that at least one townie is quite okay with jumping into a public spa nekkid, which is also cute.

Oh, teens get grossed out at most things as part of being too cool for school. It makes them feel secure though.
Oddly, as much canoodling as my parents of big families do, I don't see kids pretending to be disgusted at parental affection too awfully much. I don't know whether I'm not looking, or they build up a resistance to it.
Rereading my post this morning while fully awake, I realized I wasn't as clear as I might have been. I saved and closed after calling in the vacation last time I played the Stacks, there was a neighborhood reset when my computer crashed, and I believe that's what caused the vacation to be messed up. Y'all probably figured that out, but it's best to be precise.
The Headmaster scenario is disrupted by saving before the Headmaster comes, so saving too soon might have had an effect on the vacation even without the neighborhood reset. The issue is unresolved, and easily avoided by not calling for the vacation till you're ready to play them at least as far as the vacation destination. Once there (and checked into the hotel, if they're going to a hotel and not a vacation home), you can save and quit safely, because I've done that.

I'm fairly certain that I've booked vacations several days in advance and saved in the middle, but my memory isn't the best, so it's entirely possible I'm wrong. XD

2nd May 2012, 02:16 PM
Since they give you the option of booking several days in advance, it seems probable that the coding is prepared for the contingency of your saving and quitting before the shuttle arrives. The neighborhood reset is the most likely culprit, and the unwise move is probably saving and closing after the shuttle has been dispatched.

I haven't seen that, but I have seen Teen Sims get grossed out at their parents "making out" or showing any other kind of affection when the teen is in the same room as the parents. They also have a slight relationship drop with the parents.
What I've recently seen and can't really figure out is why when an older sibling is a teen and the parents have a new baby, the baby and the teen have a negative relationship.
Titania gave birth to a baby shortly before Puck went to college, and Puck and Demetrius still to this day have a negative relationship.

All my kids start at -10 toward the baby. It's up to me and the parents to socialize away the sibling rivalry.
It's a realistic family dynamic and can have repercussions. My Hawkins twins were rivals right up to the moment of the youngest kid's birth, at which point they closed ranks and became allies. Guadalupe Newson's nose got out of joint when her baby brother was born at the same time that she was transitioning to child - talk about stealing the spotlight! - and suddenly this two-points shy little girl was spontaneously fulfilling her own fears in order get attention.

The big one was "sing karaoke" when her daddy took her down to the Convenient Stores to buy her a birthday dress. She walked onto the lot, rolled the fear - a 500-pointer IIRC - marched straight over to the karaoke machine, and sang on it before I realized what she was doing. She also showed off to a complete stranger on that little jaunt. Generally she goes out of her way to do things that the shy kids would rather not do.
Her parents and I are addressing this by encouraging her to talk to the baby, inviting her to family gatherings, and introducing her to the children of her parents' friends. If she keeps going like this she'll wind up with Popularity as a teen.

They're encouraging her to be outgoing? Well, if that don't work, try and get her to make friends with a pack leader - that'll give her a real personality makeover XD
Just make sure you get Cyjon's werewolf personality mod, so it doesn't make her completely grouchy and messy, if you're into werewolves.
I also had a sim who was very shy sing karaoke, and I didn't know that shy sims would roll that fear. She is a very good singer though, and now she's permaplat. She's Vidcund's first kid, and takes after her daddy when it comes to shyness.

I don't intend to change her personality; just give her lots of attention and some good friends, so it won't be worth her while to be jealous of the baby.

With the male voices... one sounds like he's got a stuffy nose, or is incredibly snooty, while the other is more serious-sounding. Let's put it this way... I like Pascal Curious' voice better than Nervous Subject's, though sometimes I think Nervous does have an appropriate voice.

I wonder if it's possible to put in custom voices, like ones with different accents and stuff. like there could be ones for Portuguese and British, and many other languages and dialects. And the voices don't bother me much either, 'cause in the original Sims there was only one voice for each gender - those two actors eventually contributed their talents to the second game. The original female voice actor now voices premade characters like Cassandra Goth and Dina Caliente, while the original male voice actor now voices characters like Don Lothario and Nervous Subject. Part of me does wish Darren Dreamer had the Daniel Pleasant voice, but eh... it's not too bad. It'd just be awesome if a buncha fans could get together and make some custom voice-tracks for the sims and add some variety.

-------
what I learned today is that building a custom testing town (it is what it sounds like) from scratch is a lot of work (and it looks like it is so easy)
and it does not automaticly mean you have everything in place when you put stuff there before it is saved and exited the normal way
a system memory failure made that clear, 'page-file to low' crashed my new testing town (never happened to me before)
after the restart my town was reduced to the basic road map again (I hope the stuff is still there now)
while placed stuff in my already working towns just stays there even if the game stops after placement
(I do have occasional conflict-crashes when other programs run in stealth mode (and I forget they are still turned on))

Peni was right about scrambling wants by going to a community lot... especially one your sim just bought. See, I turned a fortune sim, who used to be a townie, into a witch shortly after adding her to a household with another townie teen and my two werewolf playables. The other townie doesn't have issues with being a warlock so far, but despite not having the fear of turning into a witch, this other student rolled a want to be cured. I wasn't about to fulfill it, but instead fulfilled her want to buy a community lot. She was very much able to thanks to the scholarship money and a treasure chest that one of my playables was given. She opened up a nice, simple grocery store and started rolling more wants relating to her business. It seems that she has accepted being a witch, though who knows? She even rolled a want to cast a spell, and she doesn't even have knowledge as a secondary aspiration. One of her employees is Trent Traveler, and he's getting pretty good at the register. She might switch the employees around so she can promote one to manager and just 'check in' with her businesses once a day. Right now I'm having her visit the good witch's headquarters and raise her alignment. She's done a lot of skilling, using benemoodus simae on all her employees, but I want her to learn a better spell: benemodus populus, and make a throne of light so she won't need to use the energizer.
Might try that with Claire Ursine and see if I can get her out of her little rented campus hovel more often, or at least get her to sell the fish she caught.

He cooks his own food, he cleaned the shower after he used it, and when Minnie was busy painting, he picked up the phone when it was ringing! Roommates can be exceedingly useful, plain usless, or varying degrees in between. My first major attempt at having a roommate was useless: he had a job but didn't really do anything around the apartment, and my sim had to forcefully get rent from him (and on one or two occasions, pay the roommate's section of rent to the landlady). Aside from that one, they've all been decent -- cook when they're hungry, entertain themselves, the only issue is the bed-stealing (I do have enough beds, but they seem to gravitate towards the better beds if available) if I'm not quick enough to get my sims in to theirs.

Roommates actually age. I've seen elder roommates age (and die--so be sure to be good friends with them to get your chunk of change), and I think I recall seeing an adult roomie age.

I just discovered something while experimenting my game with allmenus cheat.
3 of the household members are back in the garden, far away from the cop car (See the plumbbob back there). A made-selectable townie is standing right next to the cop car, while the police and burglar are fighting inside. Oh, don't mind the Gypsy Matchmaker. Genie delivery is given at random, but I have no idea why she'd deliver it at that time!
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z464/Nikel23/The%20Sims%202%20Bloopers/Picture5a.jpg
Now, the burglar has been arrested and held in the car. The police notifies my Sims far at the back and reward them some money. Since the one standing near the car is not part of the household, she didn't reward him instead.
AFTER the police has given the reward, any Sim can click the car and choose "Open Rear Door", before the police gets in and drive away.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z464/Nikel23/The%20Sims%202%20Bloopers/Picture8.jpg
I make the townie open it for the burglar. The burglar runs away with some decent relationship bonus.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z464/Nikel23/The%20Sims%202%20Bloopers/Picture9.jpg
When the police is back to the car, she realizes it and lectures the Sim who lets the burglar escape. She walks in angry gesture.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z464/Nikel23/The%20Sims%202%20Bloopers/Picture9a.jpg
;tldr, Sims can release free a burglar who's been caught by the police inside the cop car!

Probably because you tried to click it before the police rewarded you? Or maybe he already left?
And who in the world would let a burglar escape anyway... :s That wouldn't be me.

Who would let a burglar escape? Well, I think Jane Holt (1 nice point, LTW to be Criminal Mastermind) would be quite willing to let them go -- they might be one of her henchpeople and if she's going to take over the world, she needs all her underlings available and not locked up in prison :giggler:
---
If I order a sim to make some food in a townie's apartment and they choose to walk back to their own apartment to eat it, the food will go translucent. Julianne still ate it fine, it was just a bit unusual to see a see-through plate of spaghetti.

I've had no problems with bed-stealing, since my adult sims generally don't sleep due to being able to recharge on a throne. I have noticed that the roommates age, but do elders who die of old age always get the bad death? I think that's kinda... wrong. Either way, if I do get an elder roommate, I hope I'll have the genie lamp as well so I can have him or her move in, wish for piece of mind, then wish for youth. I've noticed that fulfilled wants only bring the aspiration level to the midline - never to gold or platinum. WTF EAxis?

I really liked the stereo upgrade in The Sims 3 that piped sound from a stereo to the rest of the house, and I just found out a few minutes ago that in The Sims 2, the speaker from the buy catalog will do the same thing on residential lots. It seems that this game will continue to surprise me!

Probably that inability to get to gold or platinum with roommates has to do with stored aspiration points. If you pay attention to decay rates on your playable sims that don't have magical boosters (which I know are a minority in your game, but you can easily demonstrate this by making a new CAS sim or playing a few test rounds in another neighborhood), you'll see that sims who have been getting wants filled quite a bit will get to gold and platinum faster, and stay at gold and platinum longer, than sims who've had a lot of fears filled or who don't get their wants filled very often. This is because the total number of points is what defines the aspiration state; if you grant the points faster than they decay, it takes less and less effort to get to the top.
Roommates, as non-playables who are on stage a lot, start with low aspiration points and tend not to build them up very rapidly unless you specifically target them with your playables - by dating them, taking them along on outings, and so on - so they start in a bit of an aspiration hole compared to the pampered playable living with them. It's much harder to take them from their starting point to the gold or platinum level than it is to do so with your playable sim, especially born-in-game ones, who have probably been accumulating points a little faster than they've been decaying for quite some time.
The answer to bed stealing is to make all beds equal, don't you think? You can't expect roommates to automatically take the inferior bed. All sims gravitate toward the highest advertising item in the vicinity.

I've tried to fulfill the roommates' wants by normal way and ctrl+click the want, but even if the wants are fulfilled, the aspiration never goes up than the middle line. It can get lower than that and get red, but it can't go up higher than that. I don't remember if I have gone on a date with a roommate before, but I don't think that'd work...

I discovered that an aggressive large pet can terrify a womrat.
Estebanico Casa bought a collie, Chiquita, for his kids. Being a grouchy jackass himself, of course he chose an aggressive dog. She hasn't so far barked or growled at people, but has had to be scolded a number of times for threatening Tosha Casa's womrat Trivar. The poor thing squeaks, runs frantically around his little habitat, scrabbles at the walls, and trembles violently. It probably wishes she'd left it at the sorority.
Chiquita also keeps peeing on the floor, but since the floor doesn't squeak I've hardly ever noticed it in time to scold her for it. I may have to shut her in the yard for awhile. I hadn't intended to, since that'll mean building a fence (it may not make any difference to the sims, but I tend to model good pet-owning practices anyway) and I wanted her inside to be readily available for toddler cuddles; also winter just started; but I don't want her yardbroken, either.

The message of all of this is that townies (such as room mates) have such a dull, repetitive lifestyle, due to a lack of guidance, that they have no real interest in the world. They will never be truly happy unless given inspiration to.
Even if they are autonomously woohooing another townie, all they feel is cold apathy and sorrow.
That's why Cow mascots are so aggressive. They're tired of their life, and take out their anger by destroying the relationships of those around them. They wear the costume to hide their misery. Llama Mascots and Cheerleaders are similar. Instead of anger, they attempt to relieve it through positive means. They're hiding a meaningless existence behind that cheery grin, and they know it.

You mean that a non-playable, like a roomie that is considered a 'pet', is able to go platinum on a date or something? I'm confused, because I have fulfilled some wants that a roommate had that would ordinarily fill up the meter, but it didn't even show up in green. Maybe there's something wrong. *shrug*

Phoenix McClellan, who is now a playable, started as a roommate. Mary Munny got his cherry while he was in a roommate state and believe me, you don't finish a date with Mary below platinum. Phoenix was not an exception to this rule.
I think your roommates are just in a deeper aspiration hole than your playables have ever brought him out of at a time when you could see it. As long as I'm having fun on a date and my sims have the energy to keep refreshing the clock, it doesn't end; so somebody who dates a powerhouse like Mary in the morning and then calls her back after her afternoon nap on a day when she doesn't have a concert can get a lot of high-point wants, um, under his belt in one session.
The aspiration pools decay and accumulate while a sim is in the background, but Phoenix during his roommate phase never came home with anybody and didn't show up on community lots much, so when I got back to the household he roomed in I was able to see his aspiration level before it decayed. Which it did more rapidly than a playable's would have, presumably because my playables tend to have a lot of aspiration points in the bank at any given time. Remember roommates are basically asylum inmates. They have no training, and only ever accidentally fulfill their own wants. This naturally makes them difficult to get into the upper aspiration levels, or to stay there very long. Sims who get played are being trained when you direct them and are more likely both to roll wants that have been fulfilled several times and to autonomously do things that they've done before, So when they appear as non-playables in the background, actively played sims are both more likely to do things that you've frequently directed them to do (dance, flirt, play chess, sing karaoke) and to roll wants to do them (assuming that you directed them to do those things in response to their wants) than are roommates, whose wants and actions are more truly random.
It's even possible that your particular playstyle, with the rampant magic use and punking of nonplayables, has artificially depressed the aspirations of your roommates to the point that a single want is unlikely to cheer them up much and they'd need a steady influx of high-point wants, like from a dating sequence, to rise above it. If you can't even get them green, that must mean they're running in the red; and even when I ignored him Phoenix was never red. Lora was actively nice to him because I wanted him to be an asset rather than a liability, and unhappy roommates don't clean up after themselves, fix things, or pay their rent on time.

I've only had one roommate, and she never rolled a fear of becoming magical. But I did fulfill quite a few wants, though I didn't see much of a change. This was when my neighbourhood was new. I will have to try it again though.
Thing is, I even did the controlpets cheat, so I could control her actions. I've even noticed this on townies like Talin Deppiesse, when I controlled him for an extended amount of time - he didn't seem to get any noticable aspiration points in his meter even when he had been under my control artificially while he was visiting the Caliente sisters. I guess townie aspirations just read differently *shrug* but I will try dating a roomie to see what happens.

This may sound insignificant, but today I discovered that Don Lothario knew the Caliente sisters since they were teenagers! I never really paid much attention to the specific order of their memories, and I always just took Maxis's comment about the sisters "being new in town" at face value. I assumed that they moved into Pleasantview and Don took it upon himself to greet the new attractive neighbors, but no! They grew up together!
This makes me happy! I already have my own entire head-canon where I think that Don, Nina and Dina are like a sort of dysfunctional family in their own screwed up way, and so this just validates it for me just a tiny bit more.

If you're standing in front of a mirror when aspiration points are rewarded, they appear backwards in the mirror!
Also, when you have a fire at one end of the house, and there's a hula jam going on at the other end, the party guests don't all panic and rush in to impede the firemen. Which is good, because the party was drawing to a close and if it'd tanked at that point there'd've been no rescuing it.

One time, my sim Faith started a kitchen fire. Her boyfriend, Teiji, was too busy helping her son with his homework to notice, so that's good. Kids don't generally like fires. Looks like as long as a sim is distracted, and the distance is far enough, they don't notice.
Faith, Casper, and Teiji were renting an on-campus Bonny Bungalow during that event, by the way. The boys were in that smaller room.

EAxis wouldn't know consistent and logical if it bit them in the butt.
I found this out last night. If a non-playable college student becomes engaged to an adult playable that never went to college, they "drop out" of college when they grow up and move in.
I used TwoJeff's Find-a-Mate Crystal Ball to find a wife for Lazlo Curious and he had the best chemistry with a non-playable college student. The date went very well and they both rolled the want to get engaged. He proposed she accepted, and then I had him ask her to move in so she would become an adult so he could marry her. She grows up and has a red drop out symbol on her young adult symbol.
I found out later it was because he never went to college.

Well, you knew that by looking at his wants panel and because he was created prior to University. You should have used the batbox to make him a graduate; now you'll just have to use it on both of them.
Where is it written that Bella's brother spent his entire life in Pleasantview? If he took a job in Strangetown for awhile, met Dina there, and moved her and her sister back with him to Pleasantview when he retired, both "new in town" and "brother's widow" would be true.

Since in the past all the non-playable college students that I had move in to become adults always graduated, I thought it would be the same this time so I was confused when she was considered to have dropped out.

I assumed something like this. I had figured that Michael had met Dina elsewhere and then she moved back to his hometown after he retired/before he died. But even aside from that, obviously she wasn't from out of town if she knew Don as a teen--unless Don, too, lived elsewhere and then moved back to Pleasantview sometime before Bella was abducted.
That said, EA still doesn't know continuity if it punched them in the nose. Even though I assumed my way around this particular snafu, there's still a ton of inconsistencies in the game.

The size of beach lots can be adjusted somewhat using the LotAdjuster. However, you must be careful not to remove too much of the buildable area, or to shrink from the rear (which removes the water, then the beach).
If I remember correctly, mutantbunny at MATY posted some alternate sizes, if you don't want to use the LA.
sushigal007

One of the really annoying things about beach lots is that the game is completely unable to resolve any discrepancies between the lot and neighborhood terrains. I don't suppose that mutantbunny explained which terrains they will work with?
If you shrink the lots in place using the LotAdjuster, there should be no discrepancy between the two terrains. So, that might be a better option for you.

Smart Milk + Thinking Cap + low bladder = one-shot potty training. Even faster if when the fall skilling boost is in effect.
Actually, I'm less inclined to use Smart Milk than I used to be. Extremely useful in the Apocalypse Challenge; not nearly as important for non-challenge play. And I'm tired of my sims achieving permaplat during teenhood, so toddler skills are lower priority than they used to be.

Whoa wait! Seriously? Cassandra isn't? I always thought she looked like Bella. I always saw that. o.o MAYBE Mortimer had an affair with Kaylynn. Yeah, you before she was even born and stuff. Because like...Cassandra was born in Sims 1. But you never know, what we may be seeing is like some sort of younger sister of Kaylynn, and she...Like looks like her older sister, and shizz. AND BAYUM. Kaylynn's daughter is Cassandra and not Bella's. Maybe that is why she got "abducted" because she found out the truth. That Mortimer had a one time fling with Kaylynn and she gave birth to Cassandra. And there ya have it, why Cassandra looks like she has Kaylynn's face.
But honestly, I never knew that, I need to play the Goth house, and see her o.O Because I know when you have the clean template of Pleasantview from "meetme3therive", Bella Goth looks hella different. o.o I was like:

For example, in a recent version of Veronaville Goneril and Albany Capp had a born in game daughter (ACR oops), and Paige looked nothing like Miranda or Desdemona when she grew up. (I was able to get her to college before I had to reset the hood)

I recreate the parents in CAS (after exporting them with SimPE), create the children with Make a Child, extract them in SimPE, then give the premade children a genetic makeover in SimPE. When I did Cassandra Goth, she actually didn't look *too* far off. Alexander's looks improved, though.

Successfully recreated this without the allmenus cheat. Ee! The option only came once though - I selected it through the townie then switched to the members of the household. I then went back to the townie and the option was no longer available (game paused, btw).

That said, potty training is something I still prefer toddlers accomplish fairly quickly so I can send them to the potty on their own, if everyone else is busy.
I tend to not use Smart Milk in my Fleurada hood. Things become way too easy for me, and then I get bored with the toddlers.
However, I admit if I used it for Bernard's twins, Marie probably wouldn't of had that miscarriage...

Hmm, that's odd... It should have been still available even if you change to other Sims, not only townies. Oh, and I didn't use allmenus cheat. I found the interaction with allmenus cheat, but I found the method without the cheat.

How do you give makeovers in SimPE? This would be something I'd be really interested in doing! I'd love to have Alexander look more like his parents, or for Brandi's baby to have a mix of Skip in there.
Also, on potty training: I have a mod that makes children wet the bed if they were never potty trained (complete with negative memories), so potty training is something I do pretty quick if only to ensure that I don't forget it, and my sim children won't have to deal with it.

Using the Sims Surgery in SimPE, export the parents.
Going into CAS, choose the parents, then just use Make a Child so the child has their genetics.
Go back into SimPE and use Sims Surgery to replace the child's old looks with the new look. Might want to use Theo's deleter tool to get rid of your duplicates while you're at it.

I would like to respectfully disagree in terms of Alex Goth. Since I've been going through and recreating the ancestors from scratch, I've gotten a pretty good look at everybody. Alex is a genetic throwback: he shares features of both Victor and Simon, and as a child resembles Gunther. He does get better-looking when he becomes an adult, and with the right hair looks really good.

I found out that sims can set themselves on fire while making crepes suzette!
It was terrifying and inconvenient that I discovered this right after Vince and Rachel came home from their wedding. I was just excited they could make this dessert at home because it was never an option for me before. Then I see Vince making the dessert pouring some liquid on it. At first I was like, "Cool," Then I saw him light a match and drop the plate and it wasn't cool anymore. Poor Rachel became a widow after being married maybe 3 hours!

Crepe Suzette-Fire death is the 2nd leading cause of death in my hood, with old age being #1. Seriously, whenever I'm surfing the net while letting sims run, they decide they're pro enough to cook Crepes for the first time. :faceslap:

Baked Alaska has the same exact problem associated with it. They're both dishes that require booze and fire.
Crepe Suzette is orange zested crepes with orange liquor poured on top and set aflame.

Baked Alaska is meringue, ice cream, and sponge cake with a splash of rum. Then it is flambeed.

Today my sim was busy when his bf (who is married) showed up with his wife. He did not greet them. He was using the telescope. The bf kissed his wife and my sim slapped him silly! It was rather annoying - since I was having him summon the aliens. His bf just drops by all the time without being invited or greeted :faceslap:
Also, I find beach lots annoying because of the slope down the the beach :(
Why are the nannies so incompetent ? The nanny is trying to feed the toddlers who have almost full hunger but low hygene and energy ! >.> Can nannies bathe toddlers ?

Do you have ACR? It can prevent incidents like that by altering the jealousy level of a person. I don't know much about the trespassing aspect. I had a sim who's brother and sister would break in all the time to play on the damn guitar. He'd wake up in the morning and find his sister jamming out. :faceslap:
From what I know, nannies have glitched AI. I have a really glitched nanny in my neighborhood. She comes at Midnight and leaves at 11am, even on a tracked schedule (even if said schedule is 9am-3pm!). I blame her for one of my sim's miscarriages. No nanny, maybe you SHOULDN'T leave the pregnant woman alone with two demanding, outgoing toddlers!

Just start flattening at the water's edge and continue over the road. The resulting beach lot will have no slope between the road and the water's edge.

Not sure if this happens to a lot of people. But I discovered for some reason my game glitched out when Ryuu passed away, so I had to shut the game down manually. But it was only glitched twice, but that was when I was going into Ryuu's daughter's house. Plus, I made Hitomi move into his old place to get his Urn because I didn't move it, and she brought it back to her house with her sister and her sister's wife -.-"
Is it normal? o.O Or was my game like...going muy weirdo? I hope that I do not have to restart my game, because that would suck.

I discovered a moment ago that Sims can be anti-animals too T_T One of my playables rolled a want to see a Ghost of *NPC-Penguin... I got used to their wants to see the Ghosts of burglars or Sim enemies, but this is too much. Sure, the Penguin LOVES to pee on the sidewalks next to my Sims houses, it's a rare morning there isn't a puddle of its pee, but to wish to see the fat bird dead because of that?

I had a Penguin pee in a house, after one of my sims tried to be nice and pet it. I mean, Emil didn't mind cleaning it up (he was a super neat alien hybrid), but it was still insulting.

I found out an interesting tidbit today, while playing a family in a odd shaped castle: Sims do not like diagonal walls or rooms with diagonal walls.
It kept bugging me that one area (with diagonal walls) would drop the room score for the sim in it, causing them to be unhappy with the surroundings. Could not figure out what was causing the environment drop, despite filling it with all kinds of pretty objects-no happiness.
I rebuilt the room (actually 2 floors) to be squared walls and they were very pleased by the change. Room score zoomed up to maximum immediately.
Not only that, but they don't even go through doors on diagonals. Only with squared walls, flush.
So they like boxes, too!

FranH, my sims go through doors on diagonal walls.
What I learned... Nannies have Iron stomachs, one in my house just ate a bowl of spoiled, half eaten cereal.

I've always heard the opposite, that diagonal walls increase environment score. Doors work on diagonal wall pieces in my game as well. That might be a function that came with an EP, though. Not sure. Do you have the full game?
Anyway, what type of floor did you have in the room with the low environment score? Bamboo, perhaps? That bamboo floor that came with one of the later (I think) EPs is known to be glitched that way.
FranH
10th May 2012, 02:31 AM
I had a floor that raised the score, and windows that didn't affect it. I have all the EP's. The room had enough 'nice stuff' to be actually better than it was, and only after I rebuilt it did it actually make them happier.
It was a custom stone floor that every house has and all the other families really like that floor. Decorating was not the problem-just the angle of the walls.
The doors were made for diagonal use and simmies refused/could not go through them. As soon as I straightened them out, they were fine.

In neighborhood view, get the cheat box, type in "modifyneighborhoodterrain on." Click and drag the mouse over what you want flattened. The [ key raises terrain level, ] lowers it (or is that the opposite) while the | key levels it.

Y'all are so young..Of course it's a coin slot. The only place you ever found a Magic Fingers bed was in a motel, where they had a coin slot (only it was usually in the head of the bed) that automatically activated and turned it off after a certain period.
And not just sleazy motels, either. I know this because I'm an Air Force brat and every time we were transferred we made the trip by car, so - wide experience of mid-range motels. Mostly Best Western - I think they had a special rate for servicemen.
ETA: Wow, you can get a couple from single to triple bolts over time without juggling with their turn-ons. My favorite couple Ernest and Sage Ann triple bolt now! When they first fell in love, he had flags for her turn-ons (logic and glasses) but she had none for his (cologne and jewelry). That was only enough for one bolt. But their relationship was really high, and once I put some earrings on her they quickly climbed to double, where they've sat for most of their adult lives, acting like triple bolters. Today I open the lot and their chemistry reflects their behavior at last.
They both had wants to woohoo in bed when I opened the lot, so of course I obliged them, though they're both permaplat so it doesn't matter whether I fill their wants or not.

I discovered that a Sim can change their sexual orientation all of a sudden and for no particular reason! My Sim graduated from college, where she had dated one of the guys living in the house with her. When she moved into her own place and got the phone call inviting her Downtown, she developed two bolts for the woman who invited her on the outing -- whom she didn't even know. She still has a pink heart for her old college boyfriend, but no lightning bolts any more.
