Quick question, how can I rename an apartment without moving anyone out...I made an old folks home and finally aged all the other renters but then realized I named it Old Home Name Placeholder...

there should be an icon that looks like a house with a pen next to it when you click the house to enter family. Click it and change the name

Thank you, chowgilly and longdaysend!

I hope this is allowed, I don't know anywhere else to ask..
does anyone know any good guides to build roofs like this?

Thank you. English is not my first language, so I don't know what to search for.

evilbarbie, please ask questions about building in the Build forum (http://www.modthesims2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 ) over on MTS2. If a tutorial for similar roofs doesn't already exist there, there are experienced and talented builders who might be able to help.

Thanks, HP, for the explanation of skin tone inheritence. I kind of figured that the game wouldn't be that scientifically accurate. :) And really, probably the blending is more realistic, though in real life a white person and a black person won't have a purely-white or purely-black child. So it would have been nice if, in the game, those extremes had been removed from the possible outcomes. But I guess we can't have everything! :)

If a Sim has the "Eat 200 Grilled Cheese" LTW, does she (Una!) have to eat the entire grilled cheese to count, or can she just have a bite of 200 sammiches? :D

EDIT: And what's the easiest way to put leftovers from the fridge into a display case? Those extra sammiches are piling up! :)

Thanks!

I know the answer to this one! (I think)
If your Sim has the want to 'Eat Grilled Cheese Sandwich' it gets fulfilled as soon as they bite it so if you cancel the eating before the sandwich is finished and get them to eat it again it counts as a second sandwich as it will still fulfill the 'Eat Grilled Cheese Sandwich' want if it has rerolled.
Thats how it seems to work in my game. I've never done that for long enough to get to a count of 200 though to be sure.

I can't find the answer to this question anywhere, and hopefully you guys have it. I still have the old pre-release version of Body Shop installed on my computer - can I uninstall it safely (that is, without affecting any of my files, or current base game or EP installations)?

KyleTheArtist
23rd Feb 2009, 07:06 PM
for grilled cheese part. You can simply make her eat 12 today(its 2 servings) the 12 tommorow and etc. it will round up to 200 eventually :D

Menaceman44
23rd Feb 2009, 07:20 PM
anhellica, I HAD to uninstall my pre-game bodyshop as it was corrupting my in-game CAS.
I can't see why it should damage your game installation since it stands on its own but whatever you do I would back up your files first.

Here's another grilled-cheese related stupid question. It's an aspiration that I tried once, but I just got bored filling the same wants over and over again, so I ended up killing off the Sim. So my question is, if I stick with it and "tough it out," once a Sim reaches the grilled-cheese LTW, do they revert to a "normal" aspiration/LTW or do they stay all-grilled-cheese-all-the-time? I mean, does this happen without using the orb thingy or a cheat/hacked object? Or is it once grilled cheese, always grilled cheese?

Another stupid question: Is there an easy way to put things into personal inventory? Like some one-click hack? It's a pain to click to your personal inventory, then drag-and-drop an item in there. Ideally, I'd like to stick all of Una's grilled cheese sammiches from the fridge into her personal inventory, then into a display case.

As for the grilled cheese LTW, AFAIK, there's only the one "Eat 200 grilled cheese sandwiches". It's actually *very* easy to be in a platinum mood with the Grilled Cheese Aspiration, and serving grilled cheese sandwiches all day works *very* well with a ticket-machine lot with a poker table. Una, in fact, reached a rank 10 business doing nothing but serving grilled cheese.

I also have a permanently invisible bed on my lot. Only solution I know is to vacate the lot then re-enter it. I'd like to know a better solution as well!

Thanks, M44 and Kyle! (:

chowgilly - don't you love pets? I once thought that I had seriously broken the computer, and frantically called my mom to come and help me. It turns out that if there is a kitten sitting on the escape key, your computer will act weird.
Also, I second Pux-80's question about getting the Maxis houses with no people in them. I saw a tutorial on how to extract the tutorial houses, so there should be a way to do that with 'hood houses, right?

Ok, this just happened. I've just started up my computer from hibernation about a half hour ago, the sims was already running (I hate to do that but I had to go to work) ... I hadn't even un-minimized it yet, I was working (am working) online.

All the sudden (I have Vista ... Vista users, you've probably seen similar messages for other programs) ... out of the blue, a box pops up, "The Sims 2 Ep 5 has stopped responding ... looking for a solution" or something, then it gives me one option ... Close program. I tried to un-minimize the program, but sure enough, it wasn't responding. So I had to close program ...

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anybody have *any* clue what could have caused it? Cuz I've certainly never had it happen before ... :P :D

Quite weird!

(PS, and no, this isn't a tech support problem, because it's never happened before and I don't expect it to happen again ... :D :D)

Hibernation is not a friendly state for running software. It probably just crashed. And regardless of whether it has happened before or will happen again, something going wrong still qualifies as tech support.

HRPuffNStuffAddict - Astrological sign is linked to personality and compatability is more about the two sims' compatability of their aspirations, and their turn-ons/turn-offs than personality. Really, any two sims can get along just fine, but, say, a romance sim and a family sim don't tend to work well in a relationship due to conflicting desires.

HRPuffNStuffAddict
25th Feb 2009, 07:46 PM
HP, I think I got it. So a family sim that wants to raise, I dunno, 20 kids wouldn't want a romance sim for a spouse since the romance sim would be focused on wanting 20 lovers.

And a sim who's lazy, doesn't mean it couldn't succeed in the athlete career, correct?

I think I'm going to go look for a aspiration randomizer just to through some chaos in the game

HRPuffnStuff - The pre-destined hobbies seem to be completely random. I have had 2 sims with the same sign, personality, aspiration, turn-ons, interests, everything! One had games and the other film & literature.
I use the pre-destined hobby adjuster to adjust my sims. http://simwardrobe.com/
it is under Sims2 / objects / other objects. It should be near the bottom of the page and looks like a small purple vase.

I can confirm that interests have nothing to do with predestined hobbies. Before Free Time I had a sim who -hated- sports. If you turned on the tv to the sports channel while he was in the room he would change the channel or turn it off immediately. If you tried to discuss sports with him he stuck his fingers in his ears. If you continued, he would argue. He eventually got to attacking one poor townie who loved discussing sports with him or turning on the sports channel.

Then I got Free Time. The townie was over. Suddenly there was a huge dust cloud from a fight between my sim and the townie, along with the dialog "I'm glad I tried that Sports activity!..."

Funny; I always thought boxing and wrestling had rules.... :D

cow_lover_9, if you mean cabinets that hang on a wall over the kitchen counters then the answer is none. They have never been introduced with any EP or SP.

If you would like some though there is a fantastic collection over at MTS which I would go and get you the link for but can't as the site is refusing to load at the moment. A search should bring them up.

ctrl+ printscreen (yes that is a button on your keyboard) with take a very large screen shot, and put it on your clipboard. You can then paste it into a graphics program, like Photoshop. You can also google for "free screenshot capture program"
The smash button with get rid of eveything on that sqaure. If you smash a wall, any paintings or lamps on it will also go away. Smash a table with flowers on it, they both get removed. No more of the "cannot delete items with objects on top" or whatever the exact text is.

How do you have a marriage with good memories for both parties without the wedding arch? Specifically, I'm in the full-of-awesomeness megahood (all EP's) with the Goths, and getting Bella and Mortimer married. They're married in the relationship bar, but not their memories. You cannot use the wedding arch to marry them, but the Propose > Marriage interaction resulted in a bad memory for Bella. Thanks!

Bella is a Romance sim and that is why she got the bad memory. That can't be helped. You could try asking in the WCIF section if there is a green marriage memory for all hack out there.

Google Gadwin Print Screen or FRAPS or Irfanview. I use Gadwin. You don't have to run Photoshop if you use one of those three programs. You just hit the required key combo (print screen or Ctrl + F10 or whatever). I prefer Gadwin because sometimes I like to capture the mouseover text like a sim's name, but that gets taken away when you press Ctrl (ctrl + F10 is used by Fraps, you can't just use the print screen button, I'm pretty sure it requires that you use either the ctrl or alt key as well).

I use FRAPS and currently my activation button is the 'insert' key (mainly because I keep on hitting/wanting to hit 'print screen' instead, and 'insert' is right below it). When I initially started up FRAPS the default button was F10; no ctrl button needed.

If a Sim who already has married children changes their aspiration and acquires the "Marry off 6 Children" LTW, does the married child count towards this aspiration? Coral Oldie begins with the "Marry off 6 Children" LTW, and I shoved Herb into the Re-Nu-Yu Orb and he acquired this LTW as well. Both are parents of one of the Pleasants.

@Kyle: A good way to meet SS members (in their blazers) is to live in a dorm. AFAIK, each dorm will have two of them!

I have another question
I reunited Brandi and Darren in my game. Here is the question: when their kids are all grown up, and Brandi and Darren marry, will Dustin's surname change?

Also if couple divorces does the girl get her maiden name back or she stay by her husband name?

momijichan8893
27th Feb 2009, 04:11 AM
The only way a sim's last name will change in the game, without cheating, is if they get married. A divorced female sim will keep her married name.

KyleTheArtist
27th Feb 2009, 04:39 AM
Dustin does not live with Brandi anymore since he is grown up. Will his and his wifes surname change to Dreamer?...

tree4me
27th Feb 2009, 05:21 AM
If you are talking about Dustin and his wife, then no. It is only Brandi's name that changes, unless you direct Brandi to get married. In which case, Darren becomes Darren Broke. If Brandi has a child after they get married, then that child will take on the Dreamer name. Beau, Dustin and the other dude (if he has already been born) will stay the same either way.

Does the social worker take children for not going to school? If so how many days off from school can a child have?
I can't remember and I have a mod in my game that means if a family goes on holiday for five days then they'll be off their lot for five days and subsequently the kids will miss school (no teens and the adult have vacation days.).

I'm sure this would be considered a silly, stupid question so I believe I am putting this in the correct place.

I haven't been playing FreeTime all that long (maybe a few months) and when I am trying to create sims I hate having to wade through all the stupid default heads in the game. Who wants a sim with an aqualung on their head? Or a sim walking around in what looks to be a bunny suit?

Can I delete these things? They are extremely useless to me and I only want content (default or custom) that I know I am going to use.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ghost sdoj
27th Feb 2009, 02:55 PM
AFAIK you need to keep the Maxis stuff intact, which is why I stopped going through the default heads at all and just started going straight to the edit mode.

I imagine somebody has probably made hiders for the silly heads like the hiders you can find for the silly clothes.

Kyle: Secret society members don't always wear their llama-patch uniforms. If you are in a dorm, invite a guest over and watch whose room they go into. All guests seem to eventually gravitate toward the secret society member's room. That seems to be more foolproof than watching for the suits.

Yes, the social worker takes children for missing school, because missing school causes grades to drop. When the grades for one kid get too low, all of them get taken.

Let me tell you I have been playing this game for over 4 years and I only just found out that you can adjust something in your options so you can see inside the house and the sims are still sitting on chairs, have their couches, whatever.

Whenever I tried to take photos with the roofs on and so on the only thing visible were the sims in their poses...

So, duh to me...these things happen to us all!!

HCAC - Press the 'tab' key, and then navigate throughout your house using the arrow keys for direction, the 'Q' and 'E' key for up and down, and your mouse for the angle of the camera. Also, if you are in build or buy mode, you can press the 'R' key to remove the grid, then press 'TAB'.

MY question:
I should know the answer, but I don't.... How do you edit sims skin and eyes in game? I know how to edit hair and such, of course, but, I need to change eyes, skin, and such.
Thanks.

is there another fix for alien eyes other than creaturefixes from MATY? I recently removed it because it conflicted with shaklin's vamp hack; then back in game, twins with alien eyes (but regular sim skins) grew up to children and lost their alien eye appearance.
if not, then if i make contacts of the eye, will it function correctly (for example, a couple of the photobooth poses have the eyes going cross-eyed or sideways...)?

melethana

PaintedRain - I had some aliens that were born with alien eyes, but a some age (toddler or child) they suddenly had normal eyes. That really bugged me, so I gave them these contacts http://modthesims2.com/download.php?t=215418
Since the eyes have no irises, the cross-eyed photobooth poses should look like the alien was looking straight ahead.

I don't think there's a hack to change the eyes and skin "in game." You can change the facial structure with the plastic surgery career reward. Can't remember if you can also change the eyes and skin with that. But you can change those with SimPE using the sim surgery tool.

Okay, first: BACK UP THE NEIGHBOURHOODS YOU WANT TO KEEP AS IS!

Second: Delete your neighbourhoods folder.

Third: Start up your game. It will take a while to start back up. It is recreating your neighbourhoods.

Fourth (optional): If you backed up any of your other neighbourhoods, replace the ones that you just made by starting up your game.

The downside of this? You lose all your stories, including the preset ones. :( That can't be helped, unless you want to reset your entire game. In that case, you need to back up whatever you want to keep (downloads!), and delete your Sims 2 folder. It will be as if you reinstalled your game, only it is faster. ;)

The easiest way is to simply go to your Sims 2 folder, then Neighborhoods and delete the folder N002. You don't need to delete all folders, you don't need to copy and replace and all that like the tutorial says. You can just delete the particular neighborhood that you want to start fresh from. It will take a few minutes to load as it will need to create magic, weather, or whatever packs you have.

I'm glad this forum is for stupid questions, cause this probably fits just fine. But how do you know which neighborhood folder is for which neighborhood? I think I have some custom neighborhoods, which I suspect are the folders named "G001" or "N014", but which ones are they? And if I eliminate a custom neighborhood do I then re-download and install it?

rosesforme17
28th Feb 2009, 04:21 PM
You could check the pictures within that neighborhood's folder. If it's a custom hood you can probably tell by the different characters. But for the pre-made Maxis hoods they are:

E001=Belladonna Cove
F001=Desiderata Valley
G001=Riverblossom Hills
N001=Pleasantview
N002=Strangetown
N003=Veronaville

I think any custom hoods would be N004 or whatever.

J'Adore Bakery is already owned by the Jacket (spelling is off) family - an adult male and his elderly mother in Bluewater Village. To play the lot as a business you would need to play as that family. You can get your own playables hired but cannot control them directly while they are there.
When you play an employees lot they will leave for work and return like with a regular job.

This will probably fall into the category of "too much information" but I think it's important to keep the following in mind when it comes to hood numbering and identifying.

Those ^^^ hood numbers are true for a game that has expansions below Pets and that has not had any hoods deleted and new hoods created. Those hood numbers and names are true for a fresh iteration of the hoods, but not necessarily true if you want to generate fresh Maxis hoods and then restore your pre-played custom hoods in a post Pets game.

Since Pets, the way hoods are numbered has changed. To illustrate:

If you delete N001 and then create a custom hood right afterward, the new hood will be numbered N004. BUT - if you delete N001 and then exit to desktop and then fire up the game again and make a new custom hood, the hood will be numbered N001. Since Pets, hoods in a new gaming session take the next available hood number.

This is important to keep in mind when restoring custom hoods after generating fresh Maxis hoods. You may need to use a mass renaming program on your custom hood so that it can sit alongside the Maxis hoods. It is not enough to just rename the folder, you need to rename every single file inside the folder as well.

Anebrd, if you are using a default replacement for the alien skintone and substitute in a new default replacement, everyone who has the alien skin will now display the new default replacement skin. Default replacements only work as long as you have them in your Downloads folder and you cannot use two default replacements for the same item at the same time.

But I'm hoping there is a quick way aside from boolprop, since it didn't work, to create new ones. I think I'll go take a closer look at some townie generators. Correct. You can either get the owner to use the Hire Employee interaction on a phone and hope the Sim you want shows up in the list OR you could invite the Sim you want to be employed over (if they know each other) and then use the Hire option when you get the owner to click on the guest.
I hope that makes sense.

odettem, having the special events camera turned on doesn't make little movies for you. If you want to record them you still have to press the V key just as it starts and again when it finishes. The video then gets saved into My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Movies.

Either find the file in there and delete it or just start up Bodyshop, go to create new Sim and then go to the face paint tab. Select the one you want to get rid of and the delete option should show up.

Making a post in another section reminded of something I've been meaning to ask here, so here I am. :)

Is there any way to recategorize CC objects I've downloaded so that they show in a more logical (to me!) section of the buy mode catalog? Like for instance, I have a number of different shelves and curious cabinets and hutches and such, most with slots that you can stick clutter in/on. They show up all over the catalog, I guess depending on what what they were cloned from, originally. So, I often forget that I have them, I'm afraid, and I hardly use them when, really, I'd like to use them. :)

So, is there a way to move items from wherever they are, which usually seems to be somewhere in the deco section, and into a more logical section like, say, shelves or even bookcases? I suspect SimPE could do this, but before I go poking blindly around in that thing (the thought of which kind of scares me), does anyone know for sure that it can do this and/or if there are any tutes out there to walk me through the process? I did a quick search once, but didn't find anything, maybe because I wasn't wording my search well.

Or, if SimPE can't do it, is there any other way? Any advice would be most appreciated...

EDIT: Wait, never mind. Looks like Paladin has something that will do it. How the heck I missed that before, I'll never know. :) Anyway, leaving this up in case someone has the same question. :)

I've been playing this game forever but have yet to figure out HOW to get an alien baby.. any help ?

iCad
3rd Mar 2009, 10:46 PM
You need to get a male Sim abducted by aliens. This happens by having the Sim look through a telescope. The chances of it happening by chance are very small, though. So, there are hacked telescopes that increase the chances of or guarantee abduction. Also, for Knowledge Sims, an aspiration point benefit is the ability to "Summon Aliens" with a telescope, which I think I read somewhere increases the chances of abduction to like 60%. I decided to try it out and I had to summon aliens three times before they finally decided to show up. :)

ETA, because I forgot: Unless you have a hack that allows both genders to get alien pregnant, only male Sims will get pregnant. Females can be abducted, but they won't come back preggo.

Thank you iCad, I'm gunna try it out with a knowledge sim very soon.. does it help if your logic skills are all the way? (: I don't like to cheat very much anymore.. I like the challenge. But I want little aliem babies :P .. yes I said aliem. (:

iCad
4th Mar 2009, 02:54 AM
No, I don't think the logic points matter, particularly not if you're using the "Summon Aliens" thing. But your knowledge sim has to have the aspiration benefits in the "Knowledge" column full before that option will show when you click on the telescope. That's the only way I've had an abduction so far. I've never had a "natural" one in over a year of frequent playing, and I've had lots of guys out with their telescopes for lots of nights. :)

I've heard it said that if you have them use the telescope (and don't use "Summon Aliens") and abduction doesn't happen after a few minutes, then you should cancel the action and restart and repeat as often as possible. I don't know if that really helps, though.

Engram
4th Mar 2009, 08:10 AM
I've heard it said that you shouldn't stop and start the stargazing option because the odds of being abducted increase with time spent stargazing so exiting out of the action resets the odds and sends the sim back to the beginning, trying to build up the odds.

I have no idea which is correct.

And having said that, my only natural abduction that was not caused by me or by Summon Aliens was in the first couple of minutes of the sim stargazing. Neither Kent Capp nor I knew what hit him! LOL

You won't get the "Summon Aliens" option unless you have Free Time. For those without Free Time (which actually broke the method I'm about to describe) the easiest way to get abducted is to turn on debug mode, shift click on a telescope and select DEBUG Get Abducted. Instant abduction without having to download anything like an increased odds telescope.

Ghost sdoj
4th Mar 2009, 05:53 PM
You do need to be using the expensive telescope to be abducted, and the natural odds are small.

There is one other way to get abducted. Go to StrangeTown and play the Curious brothers. One is pregnant by aliens, and one is set up to get abducted if you take the hint and let him go play with his telescope. And the last one is so thrilled by it that he rolls a want to see it happen again!

Menaceman44
4th Mar 2009, 07:43 PM
If you are using the 'Summon Aliens' option then it doesn't matter which telescope you use. I've used it with success twice.
You can tell EA were lazy though because they just used the same animation from the large telescope which means when the Sim clings onto the telescope they aren't actually holding anything.

Very stupid question, but how do you move people out of an apartment? I clicked on the phone and the sim in question but saw nothing.

And here is the answer to the roof question I think

individualRoofSlopeAngle [15-75]

Similar to the roofSlopeAngle cheat from Nightlife, this cheat allows you to change individual pieces of roof, separate from the other roof parts. To use, first build the roof. Then enter the cheat. Acceptable values are 15-75 (degrees). While the roof tool is still selected, hold down CTRL and ALT and click on the the section of roof that you want to change. The roof will change angles.

This cheat was broken when Pets shipped - you could change the angle but it would not save with the lot. You must download and install the Pets Patch for it to save properly

Anebrd, I would assume its the same way you move a Sim out of a regular lot; with a newspaper. I have done it myself but not recently so my memory may be off. As I remember though you just get a fresh newspaper and select 'Find Own Place'.
Otherwise you could just use the 'Move Family Out' tool in neighbourhood view.

savemykissesx

Anebrd, Not only can you find that option in the newspaper, but also on the computer, too.. and I'm thinking if you want to move the whole family you might have to go back to the neighborhood and use the "Move family" option and select which one.

Unfortunately, this is hard coded into the game and cannot be changed. Your CC has to be in My Documents. However My Documents is not required to be located on your C: drive.

The first solution that comes to mind is to use Tweak UI, included into the free Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx) (there are vesions for other versions of Windows too, make sure you get the right one from their site). simlove - there is a cheat if if have any EP Nightlife or newer that you can enter from the neighborhood view. I never used it, but it seems that it would make a whole 'hood be grass

terrainType [Desert/Temperate/Dirt/Concrete]

Change the neighborhood's terrain type. You will have to exit the neighborhood (by entering another one) and return to it before your changes will be visible. Only seems to work for the whole neighborhood when changing to desert. Entering any other type reverts to grass except for lots themselves, but not the neighborhood terrain.

FYI, I only have NL and FT installed. And yes they're patched (so much for the FT patch shortening that time...if it did, I can't begin to imagine how long it used to take).

Barring that, is there at least a way to see how far they are within each badge? So at least I can guesstimate how much longer it'll be. Sunburns disappear after a few days on their own. MATY's Lot Debugger has an option to fix tans and burns if you think she's had a burn for too long.

Is there a way to speed up the FreeTime badge-getting? And I'm not asking for a way to automatically give the badge to them. They still need to earn it, but holy freakin' cow it takes forever! So just a way to make it not quite so unattainable.

The only thing I've heard of is Monique's computer...but for some reason it's never worked in my game (so I'm not even sure if it's really what I'm hoping for). I can't even find it in SimPE to check out-of-game.

Tlynn - Earning badges (ie., in fishing, gardening, flower arranging, toymaking, etc) goes more quickly in Autumn, just like all learning. Also, if you were to install Bon Voyage, there's an option you can choose after a successful vacation which REALLY speeds up all learning processes. So, sending a sim on vacation on the first day of Autumn, then having them come back with that vacation reward selected and starting them immediately on skill-building is super fast. I think wearing the lightbulb hat helps a bit as well. I've gotten sims to bronze flower arranging with just 4 daisy bouquets using this combination.

And alas, I can think of no way to tell, without cheats, how far along in the process the sim is. The bronze badge is easiest to get - without the "speedy" combination I mentioned earlier, it takes my sims 9 daisy bouquets to get to bronze, about 16 mixed flower bouquets to get to silver, and about 25 rose bouquets to get to gold. I would say that's equivalent in other talent areas as well.

Good luck!

When you have two sims who are engaged, direct them to the phone and click on Throw Party. There should be the option for a Wedding Party. Then, once you've chosen this, you can pick your guests and they'll come straight away to see a wedding!

Also.... How do you build a working garage? The house my simies moved into had a garage + driveway already, but when they pull into the drive it doesn't park the car in the garage. When I put a sim in the car, there's no option to pull into the garage, and when I click on the garage door, I get the yellow 'this object is not useable' or whatever box.

When the car isn't being used, go into buy mode and place it inside the garage on the piece of driveway that's inside, as opposed to the driveway outside the garage. The garage door opens and closes automatically, and doesn't do anything if clicked on it.

Well, the only other EP I own, that isn't currently installed, is Uni, and I have no intention of buying any others until I win the lottery (or you know, get a better paying job). So a couple of those options are unfortunately not gonna happen. I NEVER remember aspiration awards (and hence am always bewildered by toddlers and children having maxed a skill or three in stories). I'll try the thinking cap thing. Hopefully that'll have some effect.

Thanks.

Well, supposedly, having high bars in certain skills will make the badge-earning faster. Since you only have FT only the 1st two is applicable for you, but I thought I'd add in the rest:

Sewing - Creativity
Pottery - Creativity
Fishing - Mechanical
Gardening - Charisma
Toy-making - Mechanical
Flower-arranging - Creativity (plus points if with high Playfulness)
Robot-making - Mechanical
Cosmetology - Cleaning (plus points for if neat)
Cash register - Logic (plus points if serious)
Restocking - Body (plus points if active)
Sales - Charisma (plus points if outgoing)

I don't know if this would qualify as a random question but here goes anyway.
Okay, so i recently tried the tutorial for a cleaned up custom neighborhood at MATY and no matter what i did my new neighborhood still had the character files. My questions now are:
a) What would happen If I went into the neighborhood files and deleted all the character files? Would it be the same as the deleteallcharacters cheat and basically mess up my neighborhood anyway?
b) I have facial sculpture default replacements and was wondering if just creating a new neighborhood that isn't cleaned up would make the new townies have the defaults?

Thanks so much in advance!

Laughy: not sure on the first one, but there is a whole lot more to be cleaned up than just removing character files when creating a new hood, so I would say that you should do that with extreme caution.

As for the second, if you do not have a clean Pleasantview template, just creating a new hood will generate the "usual suspects" as those are the townies that are used for each and every new hood. The best thing to do would be for you to put in a clean Pleasantview template, make your hood, then restore the original template if that is what you want to keep. The empty and clean templates are created specifically for this purpose - to get rid of the Maxis townies. I'm not sure exactly how they are created but I'm fairly certain it's not by just deleting the character files.

Sometimes it won't show up, though. I've got a Sim(Freshman) that's engaged to another Sim(Graduated), but it won't let me have the Freshman drop out.

What would happen if he were to graduate, and she stayed there? Would the engagement be off (Different ages, neighborhood, etc.) or would it stay until they get married?

Also, if you're an adult, and invite a young adult over from college, can you propose>Move In?

rosesforme17
9th Mar 2009, 04:35 PM
Anebrd, you could always have the sim flunk out of college. If their grade is low enough for the semester, they will be put on probation. If they still get a bad grade while on probation, they will get kicked out. I've never heard of a "drop out" option on the phone. I'll have to check that out later.

ceegamus, I think you can propose marriage/move in to a non-playable YA and they will move in. But it won't work for a playable sim. And engagements would not be dropped when one YA graduates and the other remains in college. The engagement would continue until you decide to marry them or break them up.

The Freshman Sim in question did move into the dorm with me, just after graduation. She's actually the Cheerleader that likes to come around sometimes. They got engaged on a date in the park (under the moonlight as leaves fell around them, how romantic).

I want them to get married with a wedding and everything, but he doesn't have enough time to plan the wedding, get a group together, propose and do the wedding before he has to go home...

I was afraid that if they didn't get married and he aged to adult while she was still a YA, it would break or the game would flip out. I can plan a scene, and I have a very beautiful wedding playing in my head.

Can you do a wedding on the beach?

EDIT: Lizzy - If you don't have EP Content, you'll prolly get a message to the effect of "Content has expansion data not installed" and it won't work. Try using the clean installer.

I wish I had gotten pictures of the engagement. They were together in the park, about 10:30 at night in Autumn. He took her in his arms, they kissed tenderly, and leaves began to fall. He gets down on one knee, pulls out the ring and pops the question.

He won't be able to marry her until he becomes an adult anyway. It will not hurt the game for him to marry her while she is a YA (she'll age to adult, (with college degree) and move in).

Tylinn: If you want to check badges in SimPe they are in the sim's memory. (Which is a filtered version of the Neighborhood Memory file.) Use the Sim browser, then open the memories under "More". I think if you use the "add badges and tokens" option you can see your progress from there as well. I used to have a hack which let you see the progress you have made on badges in game, but I forgot what it was. It might have been Carrigon's badge cheat.

I see that when people do legacies, they choose an heir and only play with them, but I am trying to get to generation 10 (I'm at 4) and I play with every sim born into the family. I couldn't find anything about this in the private school thing at the Sims 2 wiki, so it's okay if i ask here, right?

I have a large family of about 7, a grandparent, two parents and four kids. The one parent is a Fortune sim who won't stop rolling wants to get them enrolled into private school (all his want boxes are filled with it i swear) but whenever i click on the phone the option to invite the headmaster doesn't come up. There's a file called "userStartup.cheat" in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config folder - back it up first - then change extension to .txt so you can edit it - just add this line to the file "boolProp force12HrTime true" - change back file extension to .cheat -- and voila! If you have never used InTeen and don't know what to expect, you should backup your neighborhood first, as InTeen is a big mod (they call it a small EP at times) and not everyone like it. Please take the time to read the included documentation, you will find that you can configure some of the behavior to your liking.

When you download a Sims2pack, you don't actually install it until you double click the icon. You will then get a message asking if you want to install the custom content. Say yes and it will install itself. If you have done those and it still doesn't show in game, make sure you have the custom content enabled in the game options (which can be found in game).

I have ACR and I didn't think this worked with teens. But just now one of my teens went to "Relax" on the bed as if to start ACR Woo-Hoo with another teen sim. He didn't follow and the interaction was cancelled. I do not have InTeen. Is this normal for ACR?

If you install a new ep, will your family still remains?
If they don't, how can I save them? o__o

They shouldn't be as sims 2 packs, they should be .packages. Sim 2 Packs IIRC are just for full siims and lots. Where are you downloading from?

I am downloading from The Sims 2 Resource. They are default replacement eyes.

There's a file called "userStartup.cheat" in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config folder - back it up first - then change extension to .txt so you can edit it - just add this line to the file "boolProp force12HrTime true" - change back file extension to .cheat -- and voila! You are never on military time again!

Disclaimer: I personally like the military time since I use pescado's alarm clock.

Thanks so much! Hope it works

Yup; teens can woohoo (but not get pregnant) with ACR; there's a setting under 'options' on the ACR Adjuster which allows you to disable teen woohoo, as well as teen-adult romantic interactions.

Make sure to back up your Sims 2 folder before installing to make sure that nothing bad happens to your family

Just go to My Documents/ EA Games / The Sims 2 - and back up that folder to a safe place

ok guys, I found some default replacement eyes that are .package files. Do I place the file into my Sims 2 downloads folder now? Is that how it is installed? If not, how do I install the .package folder?

Thanks,
Candice

Candice, you just put them into your Downloads folder. If you have only the base game, they go loose into the folder, if you have expansion packs, you can put them into a sub-folder so they are easy to find if you ever want to use different default eyes in the future and need to remove them.

Sometimes I think I have ADD and I want to try the boring challenge. However I have a character in a contest. I have her package up safe and sound. My question is if I am going from haveing EVERYTHING to having just the base game, do I need to do something special to make her playable in this new sim world? Should I just wait?

Engram, Thanks so much! I will have to try this and see how it goes. Again, thanks for the advice!

Another question for anyone......when downloading default replacement eyes, do I put the file into the Sims 2 Downloads folder or another one?

Thanks everyone for helping me in my quest for better gameplay and pictures! :grouphug:

Default eyes go into the downloads folder. :D I can't think of any mod that wouldn't go into the downloads folder.

I always organise my defaults in the main downloads and then sub folder everything else. But I suppose you could subfolder everything if you have expansions that let you subfolder.

My question is.. why does vacation trout... sparkle?

Thanks! I'll check this out later. Teen/adult relationships, yay! :3

ETA: Calico, trout sparkles because it's fresh food. Fish and I think veg sparkle and they fill up your sims more than normal food from the fridge! ;)

Okay I'm working on my neighborhood but I think I'll start over after reading about the problems with downloading lots that are occupied.

What I want to do now is create my sims in Bodyshop using every face template, and then once that is done just download single sims.

But at the rate I'm going, there is going to be a lot of sims in my hood. I'm trying to change that so before I get carried away with creating sims, how many sims can one hood hold? Like I said, because of the way that I'm creating these families there's a possibility I'll have close to or a little over 2800 sims in the base hood only (I don't want to add any sub-hoods)

I have no idea what the maximum number of sims is, but if it helps, I'm playing HP's uber megahood - that means all the maxis made hoods put together. So far, my hood hasn't exploded yet (and hopefully won't).

Cool beans! I'll just keep playing and adding more families until I notice a lag in the hood then I'll stop. Now another question is, has anyone changed a hood template to another without any problems since it isn't safe to move sims from one hood to another?

While in the neighborhood, activate the cheat (I can't think of it right now but if you type in the word help in the cheat window, it will be listed) then click on the area you want to raise or lower. You use the [ ] buttons to raise or lower, I think. It will tell you in the cheat description if you type help in the cheat window.

The reputation meter has to be maxed out to fulfill the want. If you're already maxed out then you won't be able to fulfill it unless you do some bad things probably to lower it a little and then max it out again. Check to see if you've already reached the max in your memories.

And HRPuffNStuffAddict, I would think that your computer's own capabilities would determine how many sims your hood can handle. I know I have at least a 1600 population in one hood and it is still going strong.

Okay, I have a silly question that I just gotta ask for my peace of mind.

I am going through all the Sims pics on these forums because they are gorgeous and inspiring. A lot of those pics (for example, pretty much all the screens in the Female Sims forum) are large, bright and very sharp in terms of detail and colour. My camera settings are pretty much at the highest they'll go but my screens still don't look like that. Are these ingame screenshots or have they been enhanced in any way? Larger texture files? Photoshop?

rosesforme17

They use the "Print screen" to take the shots rather than the in game camera. And some of the images are enhanced and altered with a program like Photoshop.

Picture quality depends on a lot things, I should think. Like, the quality of one's graphics card, for instance.

But as far as pictures are concerned, you definitely don't want to use the in-game camera. It takes crappy pictures. You can use the PrintScreen key on your keyboard. This puts a "snapshot" of your desktop into your computer's "clipboard" memory, and then you can paste that image into a graphics editor (i.e. Photoshop, GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, or any other photo editing software you have on your comp. Most digital cameras and scanners come with such software). You can only do one image at a time this way, though, because every time you use the Print Screen key, it will overwrite whatever is already stored on the "clipboard."

So, a better way is to use screen capturing software that will save desktop snapshots to a place on your hard drive that you select when you hit a "hot key" you select on your keyboard. Then you can go back and edit them at your leisure. There is lots of such software available if you go to Download.com and search for it. Just be careful to find a free one rather than one that will stop working after 30 days if you don't pay for it. The one I use is called Screen Hunter, I think. I'm not on that comp to know for sure. :)

Here's a link to the screen capturing software I use: Click me! (http://download.cnet.com/ScreenHunter-Free/3000-2192_4-10063246.html?tag=mncol)

Hopefully that'll work. :) (If not, search for ScreenHunter Free at download.com. ) I like it because it's simple and easy-to-use. And free. :) I'm sure there are others out there that are equally good (or even better) and also free, but this one works well for me. It defaults to using the F6 key to take a pic.

I'm not sure if this'll help you or not, but your question reminded me of a situation I was in just last week. I've been playing Strangetown a lot lately, but got sick of the neighborhood layout. So I added a new neighborhood as a Shopping District of Strangetown, and moved all the lots and families over to it.

Since a Shopping District is not a completely new 'hood, but a 'sub-hood', it's ok to move the families. At least, that's what I could gather from reading old forums and other websites and such. But you MUST move the families separate from the houses, not together in the lot bin.

It was a bit time consuming moving everyone out, moving the houses, and then moving everyone back in and refurnishing. And you have to have OFB to do Shopping Districts, (or maybe NL and do the new neighborhood as a Downtown, I'm not sure if that works though.) But now all I have to do to play my Strangetown families in their new neighborhood layout, is click to play a Shopping District instead of just going straight to the main hood. ^_^

Can I run the LotAdjuster and Sims at the same time or will that cause problems? I won't try adjusting a lot in use--I think that might mess things up. But is it safe to run the game and the LotAdjuster?

lizzylovebird, that question is answered in the comments thread for the LotAdjuster (http://linna.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=282409&c=1) (check the sixth comment). Please ask any further questions about the LotAdjuster in the download thread: individual creators support their own work, and Mootilda has been very responsive in the comments.

I have 2 questions.
1st, my husband is going to reinstall his computer and I have my sims tory going on in there. How do I back it up to my laptop?Do I simply transfer Pleasantview folder to laptop and replace it?
2nd. When do Sims comfort each other?

You can copy the files to a disc or flash drive and then paste them into the Sims 2 folder on the new computer.

I lost Strangetown! I've been playing it for awhile now, but hadn't downloaded "Bluewater Village" (I only have OFB) and so I decided "why not?" but then it quit out of the Sims, and I had to delete some things, so it could run, which included some downloads from thesims2.ea.com, and some other random things, only on my desktop, but when I opened the Sims again, Strangetown was gone! I didn't check my custom content in the other neighbourhoods, but...is there any way i can bring this back? I loved my stories in Strangetown!
