I should know this since I've been simming since sims 1, but I guess I'm not really into this aspect of the game. What is a machinima? What is a machinima engine? And is it just a sims 2 thing, or is it sims 2 and 3?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machinima Is this what you mean???

I need help!!
I have ''normal'' family... mom is married to dad, they have 3 kids... but everytime the parents kiss, flirt or do anything romantic, the kids will start crying??? and their relationship with the parents goes down to almost -100? WHY?? Its so annoying. This is not the only family in my game that is like this.

I must have done something wrong but I can't figure out what I did.
I want to be able to place furniture on the diagonal - so I used the boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true cheat. It didn't work. The weird thing is - it used to work just fine - so I must have done something. But what would disable a cheat?

Samantha, are you using the < > keys to rotate the objects or are you trying to rotate them with the hand? The latter turns the objects 90 degrees.
Mayo, the behavior you're describing is what children display when they see a "biological" parent getting romantic with an adult who isn't their biological parent. If your children are crying when their mother and father kiss, you may have a bug or conflicting custom content: Game Help:Game Problem.

Just wondering.. does my problem have anything to do with this mod i downloaded? http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=223528&c=1
please_dont_crash_my_game

Probably not - but remove it temporarily and test, because I can't think of anything that would explain that phenomenon.
EDIT: Make the new father / whatever parent into the biological father of the children using the InSIMenator's Family Tree or the Sim Blender. That should, hopefully, stop it.
Also, this is an old question, but:
1) What do people do about the community phone on community lots in themed/historic neighborhoods?
I personally use moveobjects on to stick the payphone in an enclosed room, like a walled-in phone booth or something.
Hey everyone, I know this definitely qualifies as a stupid question, but:
Moving sims between neighborhoods using the Family Bin is a well-acknowledged Very Bad Thing. It's safe, though, to move Sims within a neighborhood using the Family Bin (from one house to another across the street or something like that), right?
Seems dumb, but I don't want my neighborhood to turn into a BFBVFS over something this trivial. I assume this is the Family Bin's intended purpose, and it should therefore be safe, but I figured I'd double check.
mangaroo
28th Dec 2009, 7:14 PM
pdcmg, it's never safe to move a populated house into the bin. It is absolutely safe to move a family out of their lot, into the Sim bin, and then to another house in the same neighborhood or subhood (OFB/downtown).

I'm running out of space on my c drive and i was wondering, if i where to upload my sims to the official site, and delete my downloads, then download my family. Would i still see there custom skin tones and eyes?

Alright, that's what I meant. The point was to replace the house anyway - I wanted to build them a new house since I managed to do something dumb to the terrain tiles in their existing house that is hard to undo.
Thanks :)

In general, the Exchange is buggy and not a good idea to use, especially since everyone can download your stuff. You'll also lose pretty much everything except their appearance. Therefore it's a much better idea to use SimPE to export their appearance into BodyShop, package your Sims up from BodyShop, and put them back into your game that way. If their skintones are fully custom, you'll see them, but if they're default replacements, you'll see the default skintones.
If you're really hard-pressed for disk space, just delete SOME of the stuff out of your downloads directory, instead of deleting the whole thing - this is where having better organization pays off. Either that, or you may need to look for more hard disk space. More Awesome Than You has a tutorial (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,14301.0.html) on how to trim a couple megabytes out of your Sims installation, but I doubt that'll be too helpful.

Yep, using the , or . keys - which used to work just fine. That's what has me confused - it USED to work and just stopped.

'Kay, here's a question: I downloaded the nanny career, but I can't find it whenever I search the newspaper. I always loved the idea of sim nannies you made, but when you look for a job, random jobs come up, so I can't find the nanny career. Any help?

oscarzoa, I have the nanny career also. I haven't tried checking for the job in the newspaper. I think you will find different jobs using the computer. It's been a long long time since I used the paper to find my sims a job. I had one guy I moved into a very cheap little shack about a month ago. I was completely lost doing stuff without computers that it took me a while to figure out the jobs were in the newspaper. He already had a job, but I wanted him to quit to get a lower paying job. I was just testing how poor my sims could be without me getting bored. I was very very bored. I was only happy when he had company over or when he was working hard in the garden. But I had him try just about everything in that stupid newspaper when I wasn't having him greet every single person that walked by. Hehehehe.
There's also a Job Finder Tool that makes it very easy to find exactly the job you want. It's by christianlov, as is the computer, Easy Computer, I use which I like better than the default computer for studying, finding jobs, writing novels, chatting, etc. I only recently started using the Job Finder Tool and I like it a lot. It is a painting you put on the wall and can click on it for different job options. After using it for a couple of days, I went and put it in all my houses. Most of my sims already have jobs, but I don't always let them keep the job. Sometimes it is more fun when they get demoted or quit their jobs on a whim and have to get another one while losing their vacation days.
Actually, I just checked and don't see the nanny career in the computer or The Job Finder Tool. Maybe I forgot to install it. I'll download a couple more new careers today to test. Then I should have another newspaper, if I remember to keep my sim from composting it.

Frozen120: they came with Apartment Life. The creature with Bon Voyage was Bigfoot.
My question:
I'm way too nice to my sims, and virtually never let them die a non-old-age death. But I had a house full of kids and wanted to send them off with the Orphans Assistance Grant, and I already had a cowplant, so, one thing led to another, and...you get the picture.
Both parents were in platinum when they died (one permaplat, the other just well-maintained), but no platinum graves! Are platinum graves only for dying in platinum of old-age, or do I have some sort of glitch going on?
tlynnjpeg
29th Dec 2009, 12:08 AM
Well, sad for my cowplant fodder, but good to know it's not a glitch. Ha, funny how there are things in this game that I've never seen in over 4½ years (or at least not often enough that I can remember it the next time I see it). I think the only other deaths I've had weren't platinum anyway, so it never crossed my mind that they would only have gotten regular headstones anyway.

There is a way to prolong the age of the sims?
There are lots!
*Turn aging off (cheatbox - aging off)- all sims will not age.
*Use the Elixir of Life (Aspiration award) - add 3 days per swig. **Make sure your sims is Gold/Platinum**
*Use the cowplant (Career reward) - add 5 days per victim.
*Various mods (have a search) - add/remove days, set age ie Teen/Adult etc

You can still have a positive drink from it even if your sim is in greeen or red. And you can still have a bad drink even if your sims is in gold/platinum mood. :)
Whoops - didn't know that!
A question of my own.... Is it possible to choose your sim's Lifetime Want? I have a mod that lets any sim have any LTW, and also InSim, which lets me re-roll it, but I'd like to be able to choose for some of them - it seems everyone wants to be a Mad Scientist or have a load of pets in careers, rerolling gives a bit of variation, but not enough for my liking.
Oh, and I've never had be a Cult Leader (top of Paranormal track) - has anyone else ever had that as a LTW?

Oh, and I've never had be a Cult Leader (top of Paranormal track) - has anyone else ever had that as a LTW?
Yes, but I have this hack (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8793.0.html) from MATY installed. Without a hack, Sims don't role Uni careers as LTWs. (I've always wondered if they might roll them if you take the option to change aspirations in Junior year and/or use the LTW aspiration reward as a YA.)
Bellasaurus
29th Dec 2009, 1:15 PM
I always start my teens off with the romance aspiration and then change it in college - otherwise I forget to kiss/woohoo anyone :) So I'm guessing that doesn't make a difference. Thanks for the link!
EDIT: Yay! It totally works! Now my potential Cult Leader actually wants to be one :D (When I re-rolled it came up first time)

The SimBlender and the SimModder, that can be spawned with the boolprop cheat, let you go through the LTW. Unfortunately it's not possible to choose it from a pie menu, you have to switch to the next one until you find the one you are looking for.

I just recently purchased OFB: Best of Business and I went to get the patch for OFB but when I went to install it said I didn't have OFB installed and it's required for the patch.
I searched through the FAQ and found nothing about the "Best of Business" just that The Deluxe and Double Deluxe didn't need patches. Since this came with two stuff packs including the OFB expansion, does this mean I don't need a patch? Or am I just missing where to find the patch, because I only saw a patch for OFB, no patch for H&M or the Kitchen & Bath stuff packs where you get the patches.
Also, are H&M fashions and the piercings/jewelry supposed to show up in body shop? Because they don't in mine.
Sorry for all the silly questions, I'm fairly new to the world of expansions as I only just this year started purchasing them. (I also searched through the FAQ for this question as well.)
Any help would be appreciated! ^___^

I can't help with the best of business stuff but the H&M stuff should be showing in bodyshop.
And I have a random question! You know the 'marry a rich sim' wants. What qualifies as rich? Completely random, just wondering...

As for the rich sims, I did a search and it says they have to have 50,000 simoleans but you have to marry them without moving them in first or it doesn't fulfill the want.

LittleFallenAngel, if the piercings show up in game under a new jewelry section then they shouldn't show in bodyshop. If they show in accessories along with glasses then they should show in bodyshop.
I don't actually own H&M.
The new jewelry catagory was first added with Bon Vovage and none of those jewelry/piercings show in bodyshop.

I have two "run" shortcuts, one that runs the game windowed and in 800x600 and another that runs the game full-screen and in 1280x1024.
Basically, put this in for the path in the shortcut:
"*regular path to exe*" -r1280x1024
and then -f for fullscreen and -w for windowed. Replace "1280x1024" with whatever resolution you want.
Make it lead to the actual game EXE though, and not the Launcher. Mostly because the Launcher is pretty much pointless, but also because I'm not sure it works if you start your game through the Launcher.

There's a whole family in one of the EPs where the teenagers are taking care of the kids and there are no adults, so I'd say yes.

When an expansion pack is re-released as OFB and University have been, you don't need the patches because the patch has already been applied.

When my sims had problems with their computer it turned out to be due to the computer being a custom one rather than the maxis one. When I replaced it everything worked just fine - you might try that. I have the same hack and it doesn't seem to be a problem. But it looks like teens don't have the write novel option available at all.

I removed the Insim hack to see if that was the problem and I have no custom computers in the game. Still no "Write Novel" option on the computer. The only options I have available are these: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/sleepless_night_star/thesims2/59dfb200.jpg
The only other hacks I have in my game are the "Smarter Lights" and "Nicer Phone Messages". Both of which have never given me any trouble. I'm also not using any cheats (boolprop, etc.) while playing.

You may want to take this to the Game Help section LittleFallenAngel. There are detailed steps you can take to try to figure out the problem there. I don't believe it to be a problem with Insim. I have that mod and have never had such an issue. You may have another hack or custom content problem, which the Game Help FAQ can help you locate.

You're most welcome. I'm not sure about the sentrybot though, never had one living with my Sims, but now I'm curious to try and see what happens when a burglar comes. Technically, these robots are not really guards of Sims' property, like homes and what's inside those, as far as I understand.

I have only had a bot break down once, and that was a cleaning bot. I'm not sure if it makes a difference where the bot came from (Did you buy it, or have a sim make it.) but in some of my households, I have been so glad that I had the sentry. I've wanted to put one in every household, but I always forget, until something happens.
Some of my bots have been made, but I have a few sims that can make bots and I planned to have them give the sentry and cleaning bots as gifts to their friends. But it takes a while to make those bots so I will only have them given to best friends. Whenever I remember.
I wish I could get one or two sims to make house calls, like you can the gypsy or repairman. Then I would make that sim be the one to be a traveling salesperson, selling the bots they make. Or have one sell apples or eggplants if my sims are low on those things which can't be bought anywhere. I don't have any of my sims running a business because that seems like it would be too complicated when I'm already having so much fun and barely keeping up with doing stuff from other expansion packs.
Just the other day, I found a hack that keeps objects from breaking, so I installed it. I haven't had anything break down since I put it in, but it has only been a few real life days. I think I may have gotten it from insimenator.org. It hasn't been too many days ago, so I should remember, but I also went on a download spree for Paintings and going to so many sites makes my memory fuzzy on the details of each site and what I found/downloaded there.

Cheshirecat, you may try the Business Controller (BRY) by Pescado: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=3884.0
Running owned businesses is my favorite part of the game, I dislike home businesses though. If you can stand loading screens it could worth it.
In my current hood, I have a sim who builds bots and sales them to the inhabitants (playables and no playables). She's out of stock atm.
I'm not fond of servos so she's allowed to build only a few (I don't remember how many but I only have one active).
In my test hood, I had a repairwoman. When needed, she was teleported in with Inge's Teleporter Cat to repair broken things and was paid with Simwardrobe Checkbook.
In my wood, sims usually don't grow plants but they buy fresh produces by the farmer. He owns a community business.

It's actually the Natural Science career's final level that is a 24 hour period, the Cult Leader position is a two day a week job.

I haven't had a teenager in the same house as a baby before, so this is probably a very stupid question. Can the parents leave to go on a date and leave the baby in the care of the teenager? Or does another adult have to be in the house?
yes, you can leave a baby in the care of the teenager- you could even have the parents move out!

This might stretch the purpose of this thread a little...but it is a quick question that doesn't need its own thread and is somewhat TS2-related.
What is the real name of the tall blue plants seen here (http://thesims2.ea.com/images/about/sp9_screenshots/screenshot_15_big.jpg) around the fountain and in multiple colors behind the white picket fence? (The real life name, not whatever zany name it has in the M&G Stuff Pack.)

Looks to me like it could be either snapdragon or larkspur. As I don't have M&G Stuff Pack myself, I can't go and get a super close look. But that's what they appear to be. Hope that helps a bit!

So, if I have this right, the game will allow parents to abandon their teenagers and a baby. But, if a teenager moves out on their own, they become an adult?
I did have parents in my game that abandoned their kids once. One of my first families when I was clueless about the sims. I thought it was a glitch in the game. A long long time afterward, I had experience with other kids, so I returned and started playing the kids (Kiawyn and Kayinn Raven) and got them into Uni. They graduated.
The parents, the mother and an aunt, are still alive and well. I didn't kill them because I was the one frustrated with the kids and wouldn't play with any kids at all for a long time afterward. What do you mean, you don't want to do your homework?! You can't leave it all over the floor! And, as you can imagine, the kids didn't have many skills, but were very good at starting fires.
I have a couple different scenarios to work out with teenagers, so that is why I am asking. One is a teenager and baby. The other is a teenager I wanted to move out on his own, without becoming an adult yet. But it looks like I will have to move the adults out instead, if I'm reading correctly. I want the kid to live in a different type of house than the house he is currently living so I will go move the family first, then move the adults out.

By default unaltered gameplay Teens do not have the option to move out unless an adult or elder accompanies them.
The only regular way to get a teen out of the household is to send them to uni which forces them to age to Young Adult.
There are mods out there though that will allow teens to move out into other households without going to uni or becoming adults. Maybe you could try the WCIF forum.

I've noticed that some of my sims have something like a "power walk", when they walk like the game is at speed 2 even though it's only going in normal speed and all other sims walk normally. Is that feature part of some personalities or why some sims do it? I'm playing now a sim that isn't even active, she's got few lazy points, so it can't be about activity... or can it?

So I opened up a little coffee shop, placed that coffee maker thing where you work as bartista (dont remember the name of that object), a few chairs and a bathroom. I had my sim work as a bartista, but all the customers wont dare order any coffee. They spent the whole time socializing. So... does a coffee shop business even work? Or is something fishy about my shop? :[

I had to install a mod that kept my sims from abusing the barista. I had created a quite a few different comm. lots and they would not do hardly anything but drink espresso cup after cup after cup. I've actually installed quite a few hacks since the days when I would sit there frustrated that they weren't using the other stuff. Now they hardly ever go to the barista unless their energy drops really low and I get to see them exercise, play games and choose to do many other things. It makes the game much more interesting, especially when I take more than one sim to a comm. lot since I don't spend the entire time herding them like sheep away from the espresso bar. I can let them be free to cause their own mischief when I don't have a specific purpose for them to accomplish.
Quite a few of my sims don't have swimming pools or exercise machines, so I take them to one of the parks or other lots that have those amenities. But sometimes I'll take sims that have them just so they get away from their lot. It would drive me nuts to look away for a brief moment and find them already getting a drink from the barista. I get the impression sometimes that some sims are too in tune with the camera movements and make a break for something they shouldn't do the second the focus is off of them. On residential lots, it is almost always the noisy pinball machines or chatting online since I have hacks for the others and the espresso greediness taken care of.

I'm having problems when one of my sims dies. Once the Grim Reaper interaction is just about finsihed, the game seems to be paused, even with time running. I have to delete the grim reaper to get things moving, but then the exit/save options remain greyed out :(
With testingcheats on, I get a message something like 'Couldn't find stack object when required', then lots of 'value out of bounds' or 'value must point to a valid sim' or somesuch. I really need to make a note. It keeps repeating that error until I click 'delete'. Which leaves me with the same problem, unable to save or quit.
I tried moving the family out from the neighbourhood screen, after laboriously packing everything into sim's inventories. In the past, moving out and back in again has got rid of pauses and wierd bugs. But not this time. Even on a different lot, the problem seems to be moving with the family. It seems to be when any of them die, I get this error.
Its a much-played neighbourhood and I have over 500 entries in my characters folder. Could this be related to the problem? Only 100 or so are 'my' sims, the rest must be annoying random townies. It probably didn't help that I've made an additional downtown area.
:(
EDIT: some sims in my neighbourhood can still die OK.
Also, the problem family includes the blonde teenage maxis sim whose name I forget (the one with boots!), who I moved in with cheats, and she eventually aged up and had two kids with one of my normal sims. I wonder if some bad data was attached to her or something.
EDIT #2: I split the family apart, and the same thing is happening to both parts. Its not related to any specific lot. Obviously somethings going wrong with the Grim Reaper cleanup, but why with only certain sims?
I have the ObjectError log but I can't make much sense of it. There are lots of 'Token GUID's listed with some very very long numbers, some of them negative. It looks like trash data.

I noticed that when my sims make friends with Bigfoot, they get a want to ask him to move in. Has anyone done this and regretted it?
How about some of the other vacation locals, anyone asked them to move in? Do they go back home with you or stay at the vacation home? It must be possible to have them move in after the sims have returned to their neighborhoods, or else is the continued want to move in Bigfoot a glitch?

I haven't done this very often, but I think Bigfoot stays at his lot until your family rerurns home, then he's with them as a family member.
I'm not sure about the locals, because the only time one of my sims got married while on vacation, I've messed around with making the local selectable. The local was added like someone you asked to come with you on vacation and, when the sim returned home, the local came with him and was a family member then.

Oh boy! My sims never eat lobster at home. Once in a blue moon, they might get some at a restaurant when they go out. The last time I allowed any of my sims to cook lobster thermidor at home was for the headmaster's visit to get a kid into private school. I stopped trying to get the sim kids into private school a long time ago.
I'd hope that bigfoot had really impressive talents to warrant the luxury of lobster frequently. Um, actually, no I can't imagine any talents a sim could have that I'd allow that. My sims eat a lot of fish and drink a lot of juice and it's so inexpensive to feed them compared to my new sims move in and don't yet have a garden to harvest. And the cheaper refrigerators run out of food so quickly that it seems like I have to buy food after only a couple of days if they don't stock it with some fish and veggies.
The one good thing about group meals I recently discovered is that I can have my sims cook a bunch of group meals until the refrigerator is empty, and load the meals into their inventories. Since it is easier to "see" into the inventories without involving the sims "check food supplies", I won't be caught off-guard by an empty refrigerator at the worst possible timing. That is also what I'd do to prevent my sims from making lobster thermidor all the time since they can't cook when the refrigerator is empty. They don't even have a reason to be in the kitchen except to make juice, so I don't have to worry about fires all the time.
The down side is that you can't do the "influence sim to serve a meal" with an empty refrigerator. That one cost me too much, so I no longer try to fulfill that want because the sims kept choosing to cook lobster thermidor and I had a major fit the last time. Most of the time they burn it. I like my sims to afford good things, but they couldn't afford them if they frequently ate (and burned) expensive food. So they eat a lot of fish until someone rolls a want to eat something different. Thankfully, I've never had a sim roll a want to have lobster.
Now I definitely don't know if I want a lobster-craving bigfoot in my neighborhood. I did stuff with my other sim while one sim made friends with bigfoot because I didn't really like looking at him either. That's my thinking on the servo as well, so I was half thinking of pairing them and having no chance of babies. But I'm not having much luck finding info on bigfoot characteristics, so I'll look more throughly this weekend.

Hello, I was on another sims forum, a sub forum that focuses on Sim genetics, and alot of people there are saying not to use the plastic surgery feature if you intended for your sim to have kids, so does using that mess up the children's appearance of the person you intend to use it on?
I've got a decent looking sim, apart from a horrible crooked nose, i really want to fix his nose, but him and his soon to be wife i'm wanting them to have them have children. But if this is true, i'll have to leave his nose as it is!

If you're talking about Dr Vu's plastic surgery station (the Show Business career reward), then you need to know that the changes it makes are not genetic. Your Sim's offspring will be based on the unaltered facial structure (the crooked nose). It does not, however, do anything to mess up the offspring.

Thanks for that, menaceman.
Having all gold badges seems like a good feature for a sim, especially to help with gardening.
I was wondering if hygiene would be something bigfoot lacks. Do they never take baths/showers and go about stinky with green fumes? Fear bathing, or just avoid bathing unless told to bathe?
So far I haven't liked any of the extra creatures in TS2, except the plantsim, so I wanted to know more about bigfoot before bringing in my hood. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to put all my servos in one household. Only one has been activated. Probably a handful in inventory that my sims made while learning robotics. I haven't let my sims activate/make any more servos after I finally got to experience life with one and wasn't impressed. And mine would get upset and complain a lot about doing garden work because it always wanted to play pinball or chat online. My hood is supposed to be a rural community with a focus on agriculture, so every sim gardens - even the kids.

When a Bigfoot's hygene level gets low into the red they will not complain about it. They also wont bother to wash unless you tell them to so they do go around stinky, yes.

Why does bigfoot bring gifts from work? Are they things he steals?
If bigfoot is a hard worker and won't complain about gardening and fishing, I can take care of the hunger need I think. I try not to let my sims waste food, but what gets wasted more than anything else is the juices when I have a sim serve. It is more filling than the meals but I can't store the drinks as leftovers. Eventually they go poof and disappear if I don't have guests over that I can make drink them.
I would like to put bigfoot in a big lot with a servo so they can have the biggest garden and orchard in the hood. So far, I haven't had any other sims up to the task of being a full-time farmer.
Croutonian, did you use a hack or mod to make your bigfoot like washing? I'm hoping I can get this to work so I can make use of that big lot I have since I got rid of all the Capps. And it would be funny to make Hermia and Juliet move back home and live with bigfoot. They are the only Capps whose lives I spared, so far. But they still have to prove that they are worth keeping around because the Monty family is quite large in my game now. Obviously I like the Monty clan and don't want stupid old feuds ruining my hood. Only new feuds are allowed - for a while at least.

I have a quick question about SecuROM (I didn't see a specific thread about it after searching, so I decided to post here) and Free Time (which I haven't bought yet, but am considering getting). After doing some digging, I found out that they also included SecuRom on the Free Time EP (I had thought that it was just Bon Voyage, and that they had stopped after that due to all of the complaints) when it was first released back in 2007; what I want to know is, are they STILL putting SecuRom on all the CDs that they put out? In other words, if I went to the store and bought a RECENTLY-MANUFACTURED (as in, 2009 or later) copy of Free Time, would I still have to worry about SecuRom (I have heard mixed stories about whether or not Sims 3 has it, so I was wondering if maybe they had stopped automatically putting it on all newly-manufactured games)? I have heard that some of the claims about the program are blown out of proportion, but I still can't help but be worried about it.

like this:

I'm under the impression that they're always in the same directory, although I only have one EP (Nightlife) and two SPs (Celebration Stuff and Mansion and Garden, the latter of which I bought purely because it was the last update), so I don't know if such is true for all EPs and SPs.

It's kind of the opposite of the furious state. Where being furious makes it easier to do the mean interactions, it's much easier in the "blue state" to do the friendly interactions. But yes, it wears off after a time. I believe they stay in the relationship panel as acquaintances at least, even if you don't make any contact with them, but I usually take advantage of the friend offer when I get it (which is very rarely...my sims tend to be recluses) so I'm not sure if it reverts to a lower level or what happens when the blue wears off.

While the panel is blue the relationship score doesn't decay as quickly, then when the blue finishes the decay rate goes back to normal. Also, I think maybe you get higher relationship boosts from friendly actions - like the boost when it's summer (if you have seasons).

(she's pretty mad lol) it was still burning the next day but i moved my sims out, bulldozed that lot and made it again because i wanted to change it a little. i moved my sims back in, and within hours a tree on the street caught fire! a day later and its still burning away. so, what's with that?? lol.

It's a glitch. Don't worry though, the fire should eventually go out on it's own. The sims won't even notice it.

I had a similar glitch when my cooker caught fire, but I noticed that I could still use the build menu, so I picked it up and moved it outside. The air was still on fire, and so was the cooker.
I got my revenge though- I was a werewolf, so I savaged the fireman.
Going back to the 'hood and then going back to the house fixed the fire.

I sort of had a similar situation, but the fire did go out when the fireman came. Though it took two firemen. The fire spread by itself around the building.

I'm about to install few new Residential houses to my game and Clean Installer shows two weird files there, both in red, as if those are hacks - Portal Pedestrian and Portal Car Stop. I've installed an insane amount of lots in the past 4 years yet I never saw such things. I never install in my game any hacks or mods that come packaged with lots, now I wonder if I need those Portals for the lots to work :/

According to my research, those are the portals in which sims enter/exit the lot and you do need them, because there is no way to get them back if they're removed.

That's the only info I found on those portals too, only I don't understand why they were included with the rest of CC for these new lots when I installed a hundred of houses before and never portals were among the CC there. I guess I have no option but to install these portals and hope they won't bork my new 'hood, I put way too much time in it already :/

(you surpassed the number of posts required for a title change)
Also, back up your folder first! You should always do this whenever you are unsure. (I think the reason that the portals were included were because the person who built the house probably moved them elsewhere on the lot, so they aren't in the traditional spot)

I'm somehow hesitant now to install those lots with portals. I tried to install them with portals unchecked in Clean Installer and what do you know, the lots got stuck in Teleport folder! I might install just one house and see how it goes; thank you for reminding about a back-up, I will definitely do that, don't want to loose yet another custom 'hood.

I'm playing with the Curious brothers in Strangetown, straight from the beginning. I have a new default PT installed, but everytime Pascal has the baby that he is pregnant with when you enter the lot, the baby still looks like the original PT. I tested it on another sim, and they had a "normal" alien baby, with my new defaults. So I understand that the genetics for the baby were set long before the baby was born, but is there a way to make the original baby Pascal has take genetics from my new PT? I hate the original alien look. Thanks!

I'm going to ask this qu again, since clean installer has come up. I have clean installer, but i don't actually know how to use it. Can someone tell me? I know what its for, but i don't how to make it do stuff.
Also, if i put my computer's specs here, could you tell me if i can run sims2 and sims3? I don't want to lose sims2 just to explore sims3. Or is the general rule that most puters can't run both games? My puter runs sims2 and secondlife well. Does this help?
AND, I made a sim and thought i would give it the grilled cheese asp, but this wasn't an option. Is the grilled cheese asp a secondary asp?? There's a sim in one of the maxis NH's with the grilled cheese asp, so, whatup?
Can i move a sim (while in her house) from one shopping district to another in the same NH? Or is this just the same as moving a sim from one NH to another?
Off to take brain medicine now, to make brain go.

So I understand that the genetics for the baby were set long before the baby was born, but is there a way to make the original baby Pascal has take genetics from my new PT?
Yes, babies are given their genetic links at conception, which is still the original PT. If I am remembering correctly, new default PTs don't actually replace the previous sim, just redirect the abductions to the new version.
To reassign it, I know inSim has an option to reassign the "father's" ID. SimBlender may have this as well.

Grilled cheese is accessible as a secondary aspiration, but to get it to be the primary, you have to use the Re-Nu-Yu SensoOrb (or however it's spelled) to change aspiration (to anything), in something other than gold or platinum. That's the "failure". Or use a hacked object to allow you to reassign aspirations from a menu.

You install packaged houses and sims with Clean Installer, by clicking on the package. Before instaling a lot/sim, you will see all the CC included, very useful, if you wish to omit something. You can also browse your CC content in Downloads folder with Clean Installer, I use it to preview CC when I want to get rid of something or wish to remove the duplicates.
Also, if i put my computer's specs here, could you tell me if i can run sims2 and sims3? I don't want to lose sims2 just to explore sims3. Or is the general rule that most puters can't run both games? My puter runs sims2 and secondlife well. Does this help?
The requirements for both games are here - http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Requirements/MTS2_Recommendations and http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Requirements/MTS2_Recommendations#The_Sims_3_System_Requirements
Since you won't be running both games at the same time, if your PC meets the requirements, then I dont the the reason why to uninstall TS2 in order to play TS3
Can i move a sim (while in her house) from one shopping district to another in the same NH? Or is this just the same as moving a sim from one NH to another?
I dont think it's the same, yet I remember from somewhere it's not alright to move a house with living Sim to Lot Bin, but I can be mistaken here.

If a teen sim runs away, no police or social worker gets involved. I had teens brought back by police after unsuccesful sneak-out or running away - no one in the family got a policeman in their relationship list. And while I'm not 100% certain, a parent gets a social worker in his relationship list after being lectured (that's when a child gets taken away), but I honestly don't remember. What concerns the memories, I think it might be possible with SimPe.

Werewolf Servos are possible as I have done it in my game. All I noticed about them was their eye turns yellow and they get fangs. They can savage other Sims of course.

If you don't have the onlyvehiclesusegarage hack, (from maty, I believe) they will still enter through the garage doors when they find the other doors locked.
If you have a sentry bot, they will zap the cow mascots just for being on the property. It is good for a few laughs because the cow will be zapped quite a few times before leaving.

It is good you found the mod. I wish I had heard about it long before I did. It is so frustrating when sims can enter the house and do whatever they want as if they own the place.
I guessed it was from maty because I have a lot of my mods/hacks from there. There's another mod that stops sims from screaming about locked doors. Duh, the doors are locked to keep your stupid butt out! It's kind of creepy to me to see how many sims will go to the garage door expecting to waltz in. Every sim immediately goes to the garage when they find the front door locked. For the life of me, I can't figure out why maxis would exclude a way to lock the garage doors.
But now I want a mod to zap sims that stand at the garage door for too long just because their presence bothers me. Actually, there are a lot of times I just want to zap sims just for the heck of it. Zzzzzt! Now get outta my face!

You could use Merola's Mind Control mirror. Invite the Sims over to a house, take control of them, change their outerwear, stop controlling them and then send them home.
Probably good to use Inge's teleporter shrub to get Sims to the lot rather than inviting them.

I've only heard of one way from searching this site: Move a still living member of the household in with a friend into their house. When the "sims moving in with" dialogue comes up the dead sims names should be on the list. Move them in as well and then I *think* you either delete them or let them turn into ghosts on that lot.
I've never done it because on the lots I have the dead head bug with I also have the bad birth bug and can never play those houses.

You can't actually move in a teen or a child without this mod: click (http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=211714)
With this mod, you can have children ask children and older to move in, teens can ask anyone children and older to move in, etc.
You can lock members into certain parts of the house that have doors, all you need to do is have them go there, and then lock the door behind them. You use the option "lock for all sims," the problem with this is that other sims won't be able to go through that door either. There is also a mod at MATY that only allow certain people through certain doors, but I haven't really figured that one out yet. click (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7707.0.html)

You can move sims between the main neighborhood and the sub-hoods safely, as long as they don't take the house with them. You have to move them out of the house first and move the house separately if you want it.
You can get the stay-things shrub from simlogical to keep the furnishings, although it doesn't seem to work on cars or money trees. (Which probably means that any other career or aspiration rewards should probably be stored in inventory too.)
I've attached 2 Downtowns to one NH, but I've heard that one of the later EPs made it impossible to attach more than one of each kind. But my NH with 2 Downtowns still works for me. (Although I don't have AL) I don't know if there is a limit beyond the fact that each one generates more NPCs, and you don't need too many of those.

I'm so glad i don't have to make the same sims yet again. I keep changing my shopping hood, which means starting to remake the whole town, remaking the sims - its ridiculous. I've made one family a dozen times! I think if i had to make them again, they would have leapt out of the monitor and beaten me with their teenie tiny fists.
Re. Uni's, do you mean that one NH can only have one of the maxis Uni's? I used to add all three, like you can add all three of the maxis vacation spots. I haven't added any uni's to this NH though - because i keep changing everything and starting again none of my poor simmies have aged enough to get to uni!
I'm so bad to my Sims!

12th Feb 2010, 5:32 PM
The problem with having three universities is the secret societies. If your sim gets abducted, theres the possibility of the game crashing because three different societies will be attempting to collect your sim. Then, of course, you get doubles/triples of every university townie basically. Different names, same faces.
(Also, if you attach more than one shopping district..I would recommend clean templates to prevent the duplicate/triplicate townie problem there as well..I don't think you can use the template Bluewater Villiage after you add the original, so you won't have the problem of too many of the same playables)

Can sims fall in love/build relationships automatically? I know my sims on free will, will go out and chat and maybe depending on how well they get along may have good or bad interactions, but they never fall in love with one another. Or do any 'love' or 'flirty' interactions with eachother unless a forcefully marry or couple them manually. Is there a way that can automatically do those things?

You can use Autonomous Casual Romance, it's a mod by twojeffs. It enables autonomous woohoo, flirting, kissing, etc.
I can't find a link at the moment (but it's simbology...I think), just do a search for it and you'll find it no problem.

Can sims be created in a family even f they are unrelated?
mangaroo
16th Feb 2010, 2:52 PM
Katika, if you're asking if unrelated Sims can be created in CAS, the answer is yes, as long as the unrelated Sims are adults or elders. Their relationship can be set to "roommates." However, teens and younger have to be the child of at least one adult in CAS.

Can sims be created in a family even f they are unrelated?
Yep.
Now here's something I've learned if you don't want them all to have the same last name:
Create your first roommate. That'll be the owner of the house. Say, Mary Smith. Hers will be the Smith residence. Move her into her house.
Go to Create a Family and create Missy Jones. Move her into Mary's house. She'll be part of the "family," her Simoleons will combine with Mary's, and she'll still keep her last name.
*Note: You can't do this in Sims Life Stories. (That was my first Sims game.)
You can move Sims into occupied lots so long as you don't exceed the maximum number, I believe. I experimented by moving a Capp family in with a Monty family. They all kept their respective last names. The nice part is, they don't have to be friends for you to do this!

Probably answered somewhere on this vast thread, but has anyone here ever had a toddler that actually got a bottle from another sim? All I've ever seen in my game is the older sim bring the bottle over, complain about being blocked, then put the bottle on the floor for the toddler to crawl over and get. There's never anything actually physically in the way, and I've stopped the toddler so it isn't doing anything, but in all my years of playing, not one toddler has actually been handed a bottle.
The other thing that irritates me is sim kids and teens coming home and putting their homework on a 2-tile desk that has a computer on it, then being unable to take it off the desk to DO the homework. I don't always like the look of 1-tile desks, but it irritates me to have to go into buy mode and move the darn notebeook every time. It's something EAxis should have fixed already, since it's been a problem for as long as I can remember.

The best way to "fix" the homework problem is to put something on the other side of the desk, such as a lamp...or some sort of clutter. At least the kids won't place it somewhere that they can't actually access it again...

Okay. See, I got Sims 2 Double Deluxe, which comes with Nightlife (I don't have University).
I did a scenario based on the old Legend of Zelda cartoon--I created Zelda and her father, then moved Link into their lot. Link got Pleasure aspiration. It was fun. They eventually got married. That was after he flirted with her, kept getting turned down (just like in the cartoon!) and just kept at it.

Get the Stay-Things Shrub here: http://www.drealm.info/simlogical/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_MiscHacks.htm
Before moving the family out, put the shrub on the lot, click on it and choose "make things stay on moveout". You can kick the family out then, and the house will stay furnished.

You can change the Neighborhood view from night to day (or day to night) by clicking the toggle in the center of the panel (it has a sun and moon on it) or by using a keyboard command. (I think it's L, but I always use the toggle.) It's the same one that you use in buy/build mode to change the lighting.

If there's a toy in the way or the toddler is facing the wrong direction, the parent gets mad and sets it down. I've had the parent set it down, then go to dispose of it--to avoid this, I immediately assign them another task, then have the toddler get the bottle.
(Personally, I find it cuter to sit them in the high chair and let them eat from a bowl. Even cuter when you have boy/girl twins in their blue and pink high chairs, in matching blue and pink outfits!)

I have sims2, nightlife, pets and seasons. I installed them in that order orginally. Not sure what you mean by taking it away. Bookcases from certain expansions have more functions in them than just studying three subjects, writing in diaries, and reading 'books' (which appear to be fiction). Newer expansions let you read several kinds of fiction (Sci Fi, Drama, Mystery, etc.) and study new things that take longer (Fire Safety, Parenting, Couples Counseling, to name a few).
If you have a user-created bookcase that was made without those later expansions, it won't have those expanded options.

If I remember correctly, she's in the Garden Club if you're playing Seasons w/o empty templates. Are you using one of Inge's teleporters from Simlogical (http://www.drealm.info/simlogical/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_Teleporters.htm)? If so, there ought to be a kind of "dumping ground" household listed for all NPC Sims which would include Allyn Thomason. It would probably fall under the name of the Garden Club contact...which starts with a Z.
On the other hand, you're not actually supposed to impregnate non-playables. The game isn't coded to process that. So there could have been some borkage as a result.

This is an odd question and hopefully I wont get whacked with the hammer of justice for asking it. Really just a puzzlement and not really an issue. Engram
22nd Feb 2010, 5:31 AM
Furniture items, clothing, etc, that are offered as individual downloads come as .package files.
Sims and houses, because they are often packaged with specific clothing, hair, furniture, walls, floors, etc, are usually offered as Sims2Pack files. It's a way of putting together a bunch of .package files that is recognised by the game (and Clean Installer) for installing into the game. It is easier to press a button that says "package up this house/sim" and the game or Bodyshop just sticks all the necessary parts into a Sims2Pack file, than it would be to track down the sim .package file or the house file and then to riffle through one's downloads to track down every single item and recolour used in the house or on the sim and then throw it all into a single zip or rar. It's simply the way the game packages sims and houses but also it is a matter of convenience for the creator of the sim or house so they don't have to track down every single piece of CC used amongst what is often several gigabytes worth of CC in their Downloads folder.
cdanon
22nd Feb 2010, 2:41 PM
Thanks Engram for that explanation.
That makes perfect sense now. Cleaning up files and came across it and had never packaged a file myself had only used rar. I understand why now...with things like the mini-lots I guess there would be no other way.

LOL, I've never tried motherloding a house numerous times (most of my households are broke until their parents die), so couldn't give you an answer.
Leftovers... There must be a limit, because the fridge has a max capacity - except for bottles. Neverending supply of baby bottles... It's probably some sort of formula (fridge max capacity = 600, then at fridge at 500 filled would have room for up to 100 units worth of leftovers).

I don't think that the game "stores" leftovers in the fridge, for me it looks like they are connected to the lot. When I sell the fridge and buy a new one or move a family out and let other sims move in, the leftovers are still available.

As far as I am aware, which could be wrong, the max amount of cash is $999,999,999.
And I don't think there is a limit to left overs. I've had a full buffet table worth of servings in the fridge at once as leftovers.
