Okay, for those things that seem obvious, or are really weird and random... ask here!

I've got one myself...

... what... the hell... are those?! I've seen them several times in creature phase, always around a nest. I can't interact with them and they just sit there blobbing and sort of steaming. There was a completely different creature at this nest when I was far away and then these... pod things appeared.

I have a question. xP
Is Spore just a DVD-rom or is it CD as well? All I have been able to find information at is saying it's a DVD-rom.

The official site lists only DVD. Probably only DVD versions. It is a pretty big install...

I think those pods are what new species of creatures are before they hatch. Kind of like eggs. I had some and when I went back a while later there was creatures there but its just a guess really.

I've got a really dumb question.
If I didn't like Black & White, will I not like this game? I'm starting to worry those two games might be alike and I wasn't into B&W at all....

I happen to walk by them when one was hatching, they are a new creature.

Cecilia, I've played both Black & White and Spore now, and I can tell you that they are completely different. There is no "teaching your creature" like you get in B&W - you control everything about it. It's a heck of a lot more fun, too.

Cecilia - You also don't have that horrible little angel and devil things or anyone trying to sing stupid songs at you. The sort of... cute factor is still there to a degree, but it's MUCH better than Black & White. I really didn't like B&W at all.

roxxy - That's just... weird. Most of the eggs look like... eggs (except those pods apparently). And I can't interact with those pods at all, but I can normally smash eggs.

Yep Figgi. Spore really isn't *that* graphically intense. :)

You'll want to just make sure your hardware is supported, of course, but you shouldn't have any problem. Spore runs WAY better for me on all high settings and high resolution than TS2 with all EPs/SPs does.

Cecilia, thanks for asking that question about Black and While. And HP and Delpy, thanks for answering it.

I *loved* the idea behind Black and White, and the concept had massive potential. But it just. . .failed. Hard. And they got me twice, too. I thought they'd fix it with the sequel.

That was one of my worries of this game -- that it would end up like that. I'm glad to hear that people that weren't impressed with B&W still liked this game.

Now. . . if only I hadn't pre-ordered through Amazon.com. . . I tell ya, I'll NEVER order a game through them again.

Can I ask for extension on the 'will I be able to run it?' question?

System Requirements Lab tells me that I'll fail miserably if I try to run Spore, but right now I'm running The Sims 2 Base Game, six expansion packs, and two stuff packs with little to no hiccups in the game play, which is an accomplishment for my meagerly equipped laptop, considering I play with every graphic option set on high. I'll be super depressed if after this wait for Spore I won't be able to play it, so I hope somebody out there can give me good news.

Thank you!

Sims 2=/= spore. If you can play sims 2 without burning out your graphics chip, congratch, but that has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you'll be able to play spore without burning out your graphics chip, or if the machine is even able to handle it. The system requirements are posted above, run dxdiag. If what you have is the same as the requirements, congratulations, you can run spore. If it is not, then you have a lovely lappy for the sims 2.

But I repeat: The sims 2=/= Spore.

Ok, really really stupid question... but I have to ask, can't figure it out. I must have the dumb today.

How do I get them to play music at other tribes? I've been able to give them maracas, and then a pop up tells me I have to have the chief conduct the players, or something? (I play in norwegian, so I might not translate correctly) But however I order them around and select the other chief the impress-bar doesn't change.

kattenijin
7th Sep 2008, 08:32 AM
You need to select your chieftan along with the musicians, he needs to "conduct" the music. As the music plays, you will see thought bubbles form over the rival tribes heads. The instrument in the bubbles should play a solo. To play the solo, click on it in the social tray. If you don't have the insturment they want to hear, you won't get as high a score. It's usually best to have all three types. If you are playing an agressive war-like game, don't bother with the music buildings. If you are playing a more diplomatic/social game it's best to try for all three.

BTW: The order in which buildings become available depends on the way you play the game (Agressive/Social?Mix) AND the type of creature you are playing (Carnivore/Omnivore/Herbivore).

Ok, thanks for the quick reply :) It's mostly what I've been doing, except I can't click the maracas icon in the social tray... I haven't got the other instruments yet, because I haven't been able to make an ally. I guess I just have to keep trying :)

Sorta..
There are multiple planets to develop on. There are always 6 empty planets to start with, even if you have 6 planets with critters on them.

You would both share the galaxy.

The other option is if you both have different usernames to log into the computer with it should separate your "spore" folder in my documents from theirs. This would have both of you have a galaxy to yourself.

In the creature stage, what appeared to be the shadow of a UFO flew by my creature and freaked the hell out of all the other creatures in the area. So I had my creature take cover under some trees, and eventually everyone calmed down. What would've happened had I not run away from the spaceship? Nothing? Would it've gotten abducted (and does that count as a death?) or maybe crushed under the spaceship? (I found what appeared to be the wreckage of the thing later.)

I can answer the questions of the four following posts.

@ Robo-KAI:
The Ship can and will aduct animals and spores, chances of your being picked depend on the amount of creatures around you I think(never actually had it happen but I've seen it happen to other creatures, namely a foe I was about to fight. Darn you Grox!)

@ FablesOfEuphoria
The Metors will at first only stun and cause your creature to stagger around, if hit enough times they will die. How long this takes depends on your health.

@ mieley:
At the south end of your tribes village sits a special area, this is where the food and totems are placed. Click here with a creature to feed it. To fish they need a fishing hunt unless their aren't meat eaters.

Help?

Make sure that when you're clicking on a creature that you want to hunt that the "combat stance" is selected (pg. 32 of game booklet). You should then have the option to attack that creature. And if you want to fish, you should be able to click the water where the fish are jumping and fish. Also, keep you eye out for unhatched eggs in other creatures' nests. You can take them for food, and it usually bumps forward your progress bar.

I've got a question, how does one resize the main body beyond making it longer or shorter? I mean I want to make it fatter or lumpy or something like that, you know? I don't like having to cycle through the randomly generated bodies in hopes of finding the one that suits me.

Click on the torso and then mouseover the individual spine segments and use the mousewheel. That should adjust the fatness/skinnyness of the flesh around that spine bit.

The mousewheel will also make attached parts (like hands, feet, mouths, eyes, or decorative bits) larger or smaller if you use it when moused over those parts.

Siren Song can stun Carnivores in blissful rapture (especially useful for the Herbivore being hunted) and gives you enough time to get away, it also is pleasing to some creatures and can impress.

The showers and fireworks is impressive to potential allies and always helps to butter the bread a bit when they think you are not worth a look!

Eh? Really? I tried to use these special abilities to impress, thinking that was the point, but it did zip all.

ETA: Is there a way to stop the game from thinking I have too many parts on my creature or buildings or vehicles? In a game all about customiztion and making something exactly how you want it to look, I think I'll decide when there are "too many parts".

I use them when I can't befriend creatures because my social skills are lower than theirs. After using the siren song or storm they're much more receptive and you usually win the mimic me/play instruments battle.

Oh yeah you can just do a search on Google: http://www.sporeillustrated.com/page/Spore+Cheats?t=anon & http://www.cheatcc.com/pc/sporecheatscodes.html here for example.....though I think if you go over the amount of "parts" that you can use the creature will not evolve/reproduce.....hmmmmm haven't tested it so I don't really know.

The only effective thing the cheat does is remove your ability to share the creature through the online pollinating/sporepedia. You can still share it via sending the .png to your friend.

It may not even effect Sporepedia except labeling it as having used the cheat to keep it from pollinating. One does not want to start side by side with a critter that can wipe you from the map so to speak. This all becomes moot at Space Phase, so I say go for it.

So one of my cities in the Civilization stage is being attacked by an Epic creature. This epic one hits my tanks and two hits my turrets. I have no idea what else to do.

Edit:
Ugh, so annoyed at this game right now. While the Epic was attacking I gained the ability to make planes, so I made one to test it's power against the Epic. It also was two hit but did good damage before it was destroyed, so I decided to just put out like, 5 at once and see how well they did... that was until the Epic stood next to my main building in my main city in a spot that was impossible for me to click...

I'm playing the game on Easy! A nearly unbeatable creature should not attack my main city when I have absolutely no way to defend myself. On top of that, at the very least, I should be able to click it!

Spore is relatively low-demand compared to TS2. Runs a lot better for me than TS2 with all EPs. But if you buy a game where you don't meet/exceed the specs, you can't expect it to work. You can hope it works - you can even be reasonably sure it probably will work, but there's no guarantees.

Spore's also painfully crippled by its lack of EPs. More so than Sims 1 or Sims 2 base game ever were. I haven't played it in weeks and I should just uninstall it to free up the space. Spore's requirements will undoubtedly increase with EPs. Whether or not you want to get those EPs is up to you - I won't be buying them because I feel like I got completely ripped off with the base game which plays like it was made for 10 year olds. But be aware that if you DO get Spore and you want it to be fun for more than a day or so, you'll need to get those EPs when they come out, and those will require more computing power.

I'm in the Space stage now, and I've done the mission with the broken space ship and went to the other galaxy to the spaceship's home planet and now I have to come home to complete the mission. The problem is that even though the communication thing keeps blinking and making noises, nothing happens when I click on it, so I can't advance in the game. Is it a glitch or am I missing something really obvious?

Hoping to give this thread CPR, I has a question.

Do the Grox auto-target the weakest ship in your fleet? I always take a ship from the most powerful empires I can get in contact with, and it seems like the least strongest one is always targeted and killed in a few seconds, which damages my relationship with that empire. I mean, I know they'd die first if the grox targeted everyone equally, but they target ONLY the weak ships.
Am I delusional or does this have any validity?

... what... the hell... are those?!

You've probably already established this by now, but I thought I might just put my input in after the guy saying they were "hiding creatures"...

Apparently (not fact, I have just established this over various sources) they are the "eggs" of the "next generation" of creatures. Apparently sometimes Spore feels the need to make a higher health creature after your brain expands. It doesn't always happen, but it's usually when your brain expands while a new nest is forming and you've just gotten a brain-up.

I found that very interesting, and thought I might mention it, as they are such enigmatic little sacs.

i love spore, and my favorite thing to do is terraform and paint planets, plus give the colonies the right buildings to make the planets thematic. I have a lot of wildlife sanctuaries, each with a kind of different fantastical type of zoo theme (a greek mythology creature planet, for example). when you create a wildlife sanctuary, you shoot the "sanctuary" enabling building onto the planet. I would love if that building were customizeable like the city hall, house, entertainment, or factory buildings.

IDEA: I would love it more if there could be a tool (perhaps in an EP) that could shoot down random decor objects onto planets like ruins or temples or graves or other random features.

that's not a request. i haven't seen that many spore mods out at all. that's just food for thought because sometimes I hate to wonder exactly where this game is going at all.

@Rikachu Usually if you give your tribe members an even amount of musical items, things go smoother. Also try doing the fireworks ability, or giving them a gift before you serenade them, if you manage to succeed with a temporarly boost (say from yellow to blue) when you successfully serenade them you gain two permenant levels. So you can go from yellow to (blue? is that the max?) in one move.

@Pare They usually go after whats closest to them, and when charging head on, in my experience, they tend to favor your right wingman.

@blackivy If I understand your problem correctly, you just need to follow the "beacon" till it's under you.
