Okay, last few pics of the Ashfords' new house. (First two parts here (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1049634&postcount=471) and here (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1050162&postcount=478).)
Master Bedroom (Came out looking more like a teen's room, but oh well... Let's just say the wife is very youthful.)

Beautiful rooms, everyone!
paigeyt, that painting really draws me in. It's beautiful.
Purplepaws, are you kidding me?! Is that a floor vent I see?! Where have I been? LOL! They've got everything for our Sims these days! Wow! I love that office and the bathroom floor tile, really looks nice in there.
Seren, that livingroom and diningroom flows beautifully together. Those diningroom chairs are lovely in there! I like the sofa alot too.

Thanks, Greeneyedsims! That is, indeed, a floor vent. (Found here (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=217595) in case you were wondering.) Whenever I decorate a house, I always go back through and add a heating vent and a light switch to each room. It adds a surprising amount of realism!

*Laughs menacingly* No, I thought about that afterwards, but it was the next-to-last room I had to decorate, and at that point I just wanted to get it done. So I just tell myself it's waterproof and bolted to the wall.

Actually I am glad you asked this as I always used to find decorating rooms daunting. How I figured it out was choose a couch (if I am doing a living room) and then work out from there. It's a good tip I think because you can kind of base your colour scheme around it. I always like to build small too, small houses small rooms to challenge myself.
Oh and thank you everyone and you Spudjuice for your kind words on Simon's new digs. He is enjoying the space I built for him.

Ooh, I see :) I'm a small lot person too, though it looks like you managed to get your rooms even tinier than mine! Hm... I like the green colour for the Open Sesame door but I've never actually used it, perhaps I'll try decorating around that somehow.

Mona, one of my sims, grew up into a child and I realised that I didn't have a room for her - not only that, but there was barely any room for a room!
So this is probably the smallest room I've ever built/decorated; it's more like a walk-in closet. I like how it turned out, though!:

That's exactly what I do. The couch is the centerpiece of the living room, and the living room is the heart of the home, so it only makes sense to start with the couch and build from there. Never fails for me!

Here's my humble contribution: A bedroom

I apologize for the crappy pictures but this is a seriously tiny bedroom and it was s hard to maneuver to get decent pics X_X
This is my Legacy founder Quinn and her husband Toby's bedroom. I went with a much smaller house than usual for my Legacy families and it's so much easier to play, no running across 10 miles of house to get out the door for work  It's very... bright. Yes. Quinn likes bright. The books are Toby's, he's a knowledge sim and a teacher so they have books *everywhere*

i have to ask since i love how the 'fully' decorated rooms look, do you guys acctually play any of these houses? don't you have sims throwing temper tantrums every 5 seconds? i decorate but end up not playing most of them because i'm terrified of a 3 hour long battle with sims poor pathfinding :P

I don't know if my rooms are 'fully' decorated, but yes, I play all of my houses, I don't even decorate houses I'm not planning on playing. I like the challenge of making a pretty house that's also playable, so I try to keep the game-play in mind while decorating. ;)

The only house I've decorated that wasn't for play is the one I'm creating for the Maxis Design Contest. Otherwise mine are decorated *for* play :) I hate having sims yelling about blocked paths and whatnot so I work carefully and design so that they always have multiple open paths. Quinn and Toby's house is incredibly playable, all the clutter is out of the way, there are multiple entrances to most rooms (i.e. the closet is shared between two rooms, the bath is shared as well, so the bedroom has two entrances in addition to the regular door), kitchen appliances are away from doors or other obstacles that would get two sims in a crash, etc. For example, in the bathroom below, the clutter is confined to the shelves over the toilet and one item on the floor so despite its small size there are no pathfinding issues :)

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h250/brilliantcat/DLbathroom1-1.jpg
This is Quinn and Toby's bath (for now, she's preggo and it's a shared bath between the two bedrooms). It's a calming green that transitions nicely into the printed wallpaper in the bedroom (the other bedroom is similarly wallpapered with bright shades and big patterns). I'm working on polishing up the living room/kitchen so expect pics of those next :)

thanks for the imput Brill..i love that bathroom, the green is so vibrant but not loud (if that makes sense) yeah i think my problem is i make small houses so cluttering it up usually ends up with a one-tile path in and out of rooms...multiple paths..i'll have to remember that for future reference :)

Not sure if mine qualifies as "fully" decorated as I don't use as much clutter as some of the people on here, but I definitely play my houses. In fact, the only reason I put so much effort into the design is so that I can have a nice homey atmosphere when playing. By now, I have a fairly good grasp of what will block a path and what won't, so I just make sure to keep it within reason. Usually after decorating a house, I'll find one or two little annoyances during gameplay (curtains block access to the bathtub, tv can only be turned off an on from the bed), but it just takes a few minutes to fix them. And from then on, it's usually pretty smooth.

i don't use clutter at all... it just doesn't make sense to me... I do use boolProp snapObjectsToGrid alot though... i don't like lots of doors because i play from above and it drives me nuts for some reason when theres more than one door to a room. the only time that there is more than one door to a room is bathroom in one bathroom houses. :D

sawcarn, I love your Maxis living room, especially the fireplace wall. Good luck tomorrow *scared*
Bettebob, your nursery is so pretty and delicate, the new teen stuff seems more suited to kids imo, at least the "princess" stuff. I need to pick that up, the stuff looks so nice!
Keely, Quinn loves Max's room :D The combination of the vivid blue and the pattern looks really good.
coldfloral, I'm glad you're not competing  That living room is gorgeous!
BP, your rooms are lovely as always. I like the last shot of the bedroom, the colors go very well together.
So Quinn had a daughter today :D Which means the room I was using for her home business got renovated into the baby's room. They named her Skye and both mommy and daddy are over the moon about becoming parents :)

Hi all,
I never posted in this thread before, but I was proud of this and wanted to show off. I was messing around the other day and decided to play with building on a diagonal, and here are the results. As you can also see, I'm a clutter junkie :D
p.s. It's play tested, and everything works. Groovy.

I didn't have a chance to work on it since I was making over Nina and Dina for the Maxis Makeover competition but I finally got the screenshots of Skye's room when she was a child. Of course she's been a teen for over a day now *headdesk*
Overhead (it is a teeeeeny room), I just love that rug

I've started playing Sims a lot again and I've been re-doing a neighbourhood, starting with, of course, the decorating!
Here's one house I've been working on:

Sorry, zizismommy, I've fixed it now. :)
Thanks Chinchillagirl, I'm not quite up to my usual amount of CC, so far I've been using mostly "sets" of stuff, but as I get more and more stuff updated for BV and Seasons, I'll add it back slowly :)
