“Fair enough" the doctor replied, after taking a whiff of some unlabelled bottle, his eyes briefly somewhat shiney. "I presume also that I have not heard of any gunshot wounds in the locale”.

Calista nodded, pleased that she didn't even have to ask him. There had been an understanding between her and the good doctor for a while now, but it still felt nice hearing him say those particular words.

“Would you like something for the pain?" the doctor continued. "I have the usual morphine tinctures or perhaps some strong alcohol to take away the edge? I will need you to stay very still. I cannot do with wriggling whilst I conduct my practice.”

Calista wrinkled her nose slightly, not at all keen on the idea of being subdued. She needed her mind sharp, and knew she'd be able to take the pain. But she saw the look in the doctor's eyes, and knew better than to argue. After all, he was the one who knew exactly what he needed to be able to do a good job.

"No morphine", she said firmly, a stern look in her eyes.
She was used to the effects of alcohol. She knew what it would do to her, and how to handle herself while intoxicated. But she knew little of what the morphine would do to her. So out of two evils, she chose the one she was familiar with.

(((ooc: veldagia: Sorry it's rushed, I'm in a terrible hurry. Feel free to GM her a bit if you need. Why, to move things along you can have her doze off from the alcohol, so that she wakes up a couple of hours later. You don't even have to write the waking up part, I can do that when I get back later tonight.
Just figure it's time to try and get organized for the peace party thing. :) )))

"No morphine", Calista said firmly, a stern look in her eyes.

Dr Josh nodded “OK. As long as you can take it neat. Take a few good swallows. It burns a little but believe me does a good job. You won’t be unconscious, but the world may sway a little around you and it’ll wear off in an hour or so on a good constitution. “ He recited his usual instructions, sure she was familiar with them by now.

He waited whilst she drunk from the offered bottle. Then reached for a similar one and tipped it onto a cloth. “This will sting” He warned as he wiped away the blood around the wound his touch firm but careful not to press to hard. It was a clean shot, not very deep and thankfully for her the bullet appeared to still be in one piece. “Take another swig of the bottle and hold this against the wound. I will be back in a couple of minutes.”

With that he left the room heading through into the main part of the surgery. “Jeanne. I have a little business to take care of, can you please prepare the two to leave. Collect their final bill and take a coin for yourself. Call it a little bonus.” That will ensure she collects every penny.

“Thank you Dr. Will you be taking breakfast as usual?” she asked tactfully not enquiring of his business. She valued her job at the surgery and sought to avoid anything which brought about his brutal attitude.

“Not today. I think I will head into town if I get peckish I can visit the bakery. Could you just layout a suit for me to change into once I am finished.” His voice was stern. The gruffness from being awoken taking its time to wear off on his mood.

He headed back into the backroom and carefully observed Calista for a couple of moments. The alcohol appeared to be having the desired effect. He picked up thin metal tongs and approached her removing her hand from over the wound. Carefully he lined up the edges around the bullet, prising into the flesh. Once he was sure he had a solid grip he pulled gently easing the bullet out of her arm. Wiping again he cleared up the blood that slowly gushed, a warm red spring upon her fair skin.

Selecting a fine silver needle and strong thread he stitched the flesh methodically together. Musing over the location of the shooter relative to the angle of the bullet as he worked. He had seen many similar incidents in his time. His stitches were small and neat, like the finest embroidery upon the skin. Taking pride in his work, an artist of the flesh. She would have the smallest scar if it healed well detectable only to the observant eye. Another small distinguishing line of marks as unique to him as the freckles upon a lover’s body. He could identify any corpse that rolled up out of the blue by his own handiwork. A trait that had been called upon once or twice since he had lived in Tumbleweed.

“All done.” He said more to himself than to his patient as he wiped the blood from his hands. Taking ink and paper he scribbled a sum and his initials quickly aware that she would probably burn the receipt as soon as it was paid. “I have a busy day so please excuse me. Rest here for as long as you need and come back once healed for the stitches removing. Leave payment on the table before you leave or I will come visit and collect.”

Leaving the note next to Calista he headed upstairs to change into his suit

A couple of hours later, Calista awoke in the doctor's back room. As she hadn't eaten anything since early the day before, the alcohol had really done a number on her. Her head was throbbing worse than her arm was, and her legs felt wobbly as she stood, slowly and carefully. Even after hours of sleep she was still feeling a bit groggy. But after a few deep breaths, she felt her mind becoming clearer once again. Taking another couple of moments to try and pull herself together, she finally felt steady enough to leave the clinic, but not without taking a look at the note the doctor had left.
As expected, the sum he asked for was quite hefty. He truely was an opportunist, milking people for money just because they didn't have any options.
Grumbling to herself, Calista pulled the money from her boot and placed it on the table, just like he'd asked her to.
But on her way over to the door she hesitated, and looked back at the money. From the looks of the stitched up wound, he'd done a very good job. It wouldn't leave much of an ugly scar. And he was very reasonable when it came to keeping quiet about her visits. She probably should show him that she appreciated it.

Seconds later she left the clinic the same way she came. On the table lay the requested amount of dollars, and a little bonus. When it came to the good doctor, there was no need to be cheap. It would only come back to bite her in the backside.

Which reminded her; the sheriff. She had some money for him as well. But passing by the jail, she saw that he wasn't in. Oh well, it would have to wait. She was not about to go searching for him just to give him money. He'd done such an excellent job of finding her when he wanted to point out how long it had been since he last saw the fruits of her labour. Let him do it again.
And the ammo from the firearms shop could wait as well.
What she needed the most right now, was some food. And a clean shirt. Walking around town with a bloody one just wasn't a good idea if she wanted to keep her injury a secret.

Managing to sneak up to her own place without being seen, she soon exited again, now wearing another shirt. It was far from new, but at least it was clean.
Now, finally; food.
It was the one thought in her head as she started down Wagon Wheel Road, towards Ellie's general store.

You crazy good guys. lol

The characters list (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=937261&postcount=7) has been updated to reflect the changes involving the Good gang. You will most likely have to refresh your screen to see the changes.

The map has been updated. Cristen will be, uhm, "taken care of" via RP by another player, and Jonathan will soon own a forge across from the bakery. (For those of you, who like me had to ask, a forge is a blacksmith.)

The changes are shown on the map, but still need to happen via RP. What can I say? Pretend the map maker is psychic!

Ugly Gang - You have nine more hours to send me your list of peace parties, then I'll post the clue and we'll get round one started!

I just sent you a PM Nukeya. I love the idea of someone collapsing in the middle of Main Street. But if you're really going to do that, you might want to wait till a peace team returns from Tall Grass Prairie. lol Otherwise, you may be laying there an awful long time. Billy left the saloon and the liqour sat heavy on his stomach in the afternoon heat. He suddenly wished he was in his bed and could forget about the horse, the indian and the developing headache. He was ready to start heading that way when Calista had caught his eye. He hadn't seen her all day, and wondered if Poppy had knocked on her door. Billy walked up to her as she approached the General Store and called out for her, "Miss Calista?" When she turned around he tipped his hat and straightened yesterdays shirt. Charlene(his sister) usually did his laundry for him and he always had clean clothes, but he still hadn't had a chance to put some on, with the Poppy interruption and all.

"Do you by chance know anything of the commotion this morning?" He watched her give him an odd look telling him 'no'. "Poppy hasnt' been knocking on your door about the dead horse?" Billy sighed as the answer was no. He proceeded to tell her about, not only his rough morning with Poppy but the visitor they recieved stealing undergarments off of people's lines and the idea of going to talk to the villiages. If they were responsible for killing Poppy's horse over buffalo, then they needed to find peace between them and the villiages fast.

A couple of feet away from reaching the general store, Calista heard someone call out to her. A dark, male voice. The sheriff.
Inwardly, Calista sighed. That man had the worst possible timing. She was tired and hungry, and not sure the effects of the alcohol had completely worn off just yet. She didn't need him to see her like this. She needed to appear strong and healthy to him, she told herself, although knowing but stubbornly denying that there was another reason as well.

She turned around to face him, forcing a smile, and caught him straightening his shirt. It was a simple, normal thing for a man to do, but Calista wondered. Maybe...
No. She was reading too much into such silly things.

"Do you by chance know anything of the commotion this morning?" he asked.

For a moment she thought he meant the family she'd robbed during the wee hours of the morning, but the expression on his face and the tone in his voice told her he was talking about something else. Confused she shook her head.
"Poppy hasnt' been knocking on your door about the dead horse?" he asked.

Again Calista shook her head, looking even more puzzled. The sheriff then went on to explain what had happened in town during the hours she'd been asleep in the doctor's office, and with each thing, Calista's eyes widened.
"My...", she finally said, not really knowing what else to say.
But after thinking for a few moments, she nodded. There weren't enough good men (or women) in town to be able to defend it, should the indians attack.

"If they are indeed angry about the buffalo, shouldn't we give some of it back?" she said, trying to keep her thoughts lucid. "We don't really need all of it, do we? Not more than they do, at least."

Was it a dumb suggestion? She wasn't sure.
'Great', she thought. 'Dirty, drunk AND dumb. Just terrific.'

Billy shook his head, "It's a possiblity, but i think they feel like we wasted the meat. They are funny about the 'balance'," Billy evened his hands infront of his face before unevening them, as if he needed a physical example. "of nature, so to speak."

Billy felt his empty stomach cramp slightly and held his hand over it. He wondered if Charlene had fixed dinner yet. "So maybe taking some meat to them would be a good idea, since most of it is already ready to be stored and stuff. But I was wondering if you'd be willing to head one of the parties when we get ready to go out to the villiages. You have a good head on your shoulders, and you know, what's best for Tumbleweed and all." Billy wanted to smack himself, did he just sound nervous? He looked at Calista and she seemed tired, hunting must have taken alot out of her as well, but she was still a beautiful, strong lady, though maybe a beautiful, strong lady that needed a nap. Nap... That sounds so good...

"Sheriff?" He realized he'd slightly zoned out thinking about food and a nap as Calista snapped him back to reality. They'd stepped into the General store now, so the sun wasn't beating down on them. Ellie was behind the counter and he tipped his hat as he listened to Calista.

((Billy's a bit disoriented at the moment, he wants some food and a nap! XD))

Time for the first round

Regarding RP, you might have to act like a VCR/DVD and fast forward a bit. It is now the next morning, and peace teams need to begin heading out to tall Grass Prairie. The list of peace teams is as follows (leaders, please let me know if I messed any of them up.):

For the Good:
1.Johnathan and Katherine
2.Elliot and Michaela
3.Tom and Julia

For the Bad:
1.Aspen and Lolita
2.Calista and Ellie
3.Billy and Poppy

For the Ugly:
1.Dr. Josh and Roxy
2.Halse and Pepper
3.Jack and Loretta

Each team has three days to PM me their territory choice. I will post who succeeded and who did not as soon as I get all nine territory choices. (So rounds could move quicker.) A reminder, only one team can be in a territory at a time. You are allowed to change your territory choice as long as that round is still open. Any questions, feel free to PM me.
Last, but not least, here is your clue:

After leaving Emily-Rose in the care of a neighbour, Katherine started making her way down the street to the forge. She fiddled with the tie on her bonnet that was perfectly matched to her calico dress. "I'm glad I'm going with Jonathan" she thought, smiling to herself "It feels much safer than going with another woman, I'll have someone to protect me".

She reached her destination and knocked on the door.

Elliot tapped his finger against his chin as he stared into space. In just a few hours he would be heading out to meet the infamous indians. This time he had to be prepared, he couldn't just rely on luck like with his hunting trip. No this was much more serious...much more dangerous, he held his and Michaela's life in his hands. He would take the wagon...and lots of food of course, who knows how long they would be out there! He looked around his room at his meager belongings, he would need items to trade. He could recall from his studies that Indians tended to be rather interested in even the simplest items from the white man. This would give him a chance to prove those scholars right or wrong. Elliot smiled as he began to pen his journal of exploration in his head....A vivid image of Indians in full war paint galloping over a ridge down on him and Michaela, screaming their war cries, popped into his head. Elliot shuddered, a gun. They definently needed a gun. Elliot stood. He couldn't go ask Katherine for hers, she was leaving in the morning on her own expedition. No, it seemed as though it was time for him to invest in his own. Elliot pulled a wad of cash from a container in his cupboard. He shoved it all into his back pocket, hoping it would be enough. He hurried out into the warm evening air, hoping the firearms shop had not yet closed.
Elliot knocked loudly on the door, "Hello? Are you still open?"

After they had finished their meal, someone said there there was an abandoned house in the town, which could use a bit of work but was ready for a new inhabitant. Jonathan decided to go and have a look.
It didn't seem to have been empty for a really long time and he wouldn't need long to make it look nice again. Also, it had a small stable which was perfect because this way he could open a forge.

Jonathan thanked Katherine, who had accompanied him so far, and wished her a good night.

The man went to bed soon, they had agreed on visiting some Native villages the next day and thus they'd have to get up early.

On the next morning, he was in his backyard, trying to find out where he'd get fresh water when he heard a knock at the front door.
He didn't have a shirt on but thought it impolite to not open the door so ran to see who it was.
"Katherine! You're a bit early ... Please come in, I just have to get dressed quickly." he said to her, feeling a bit unpleasant. "I'll be ready in a minute."

"O..okay" she said, quickly looking down at her shoes and turning a rather embarassing shade of red. She walked in and sat down, glancing around the building. The previous owner hadn't left it in that bad of a state of disrepair, so she figured it wouldn't be long before Jonathan had it fixed up and had the forge up and running.

Katherine heard him come back into the room and looked up, seeing that he had gotten dressed. "I'm sorry I was so early Jonathan" she said, looking vaguely embarassed "I just wanted to get an early start since we've got quite a journey ahead of us".

"Me?" Calista said, surprised at the suggestion that she lead a peace party.
She herself did of course know that she had a good head on her shoulders and that she'd be more than able to pull it off. She just didn't know sheriff Starks shared that opinion. But it pleased her to hear it. Better not make him change his mind by seeming bewildered and unstable.
Therefore, she nodded firmly once.
"Alright", she said as they both stepped into the general store. "I'll head a party, provided that I don't get stuck with whores or nutcases with a thirst for blood. I have nothing against them, but this is serious business, and I have better things to worry about than a livid loon on an opium trip gone wrong, or Lolita managing to get herself abducted by some hormone crazed native boy."

She paused to greet Ellie with a smile, and then looked at the sheriff. Seeing him stare off into nothingness, she realized he hadn't heard a word.

"Sheriff?" she said and gave him a nudge to bring him back to the real world.
He blinked, and turned his gaze onto her, and with a soft sigh Calista repeated what she'd just said, more or less, and ended with:
"I'd prefer someone stable, someone who knows what they're doing."

She glanced at Ellie, and then gestured towards her.

"Someone like Ellie here", she said, turning fully to the young store owner. "You've heard our discussion. What do you say?"

Bored, bored, noone had come yet today. I sat myself down on a chair and occupied myself by thinking over the whole incident with the native boy. Apparently now we were supposed to try and make peace with the indian tribes, as it seems they are all pretty ticked at us at the moment.
Voices outside the shop broke me out of my daze, I heard Calista listening to Billy explain the same situation I had just been mulling over. I wondered why it was that Calista didnt know..
I was listing out the reasons in my head when they entered the shop, still talking. I nodded to Billy as he tipped his hat to me, and then seemed to go on listening to Calista.
"I'll head a party, provided that I don't get stuck with whores or nutcases with a thirst for blood. Calista didnt even seem to notice that Billy didnt seem to be listening. I was just wondering if I should tell her this, when Calista sighed, apparently realizing her words were falling on deaf ears. She started over, repeating the same thing again.
"I'd prefer someone stable, someone who knows what they're doing.", she said, glancing my way and gesturing toward me, "Someone like Ellie here". She turned to me. "You've heard our discussion. What do you say?"
I blinked, slightly surprised. But I nodded, "Ok....sounds good."

After having bought some bread, canned beans and beef jerky from Ellie, Calista had had her first meal in what seemed like days, and then gone straight to bed, making sure she got a real good night's sleep. God knows she needed it!

“ I may be out of town for a while. There are a few prescriptions made up in my desk, please administer them as usual. Any emergencies refer them to the next town if it’s something you cannot handle yourself.” Dr Josh instructed Jeanne

“Yes Dr, thank you.” Jeanne said. “I have prepared a bag for your horse as requested. I hope you have a good journey.”

With a silent nod he stepped out of the door marching over to the inn. When Roxy was no-where to be seen he stepped behind the bar. “Hey Roxy,” he called, “are you ready yet? We need to head out to find some natives.” His voice was confident and assertive.

He wasn’t worried about a few natives. He held some respect for them even. One of his most used drugs came from the recipe of an ancient medicine man who had reluctantly shared a little of his knowledge with the Dr in gratitude after he saved his daughters life. A small thing at the time she had caught her foot in one of the hunters traps. Coming across her in the wilderness he had acted quickly and without thought to the morality of it all, realising her leg and restricting the blood flow. She still walked with a limp but had her life. It had paid off well for him, as he hoped it would. Ensuring his safety with one of the tribes, a prize worth much more than a few handfuls of coins.

Billy left the general store behind to head to His sisters house to eat. Charlene was short and slim, like their mother, and acted nothing like him, for what he could tell. She was nice, generous, happy, and got along with everyone. Billy was nice when he wanted something or was drunk, other than that, it was usally just pretend. But he wasnt' stupid, he retained all the mannerisms his father taught him growing up and the ones his mother taught him as well. After dinner with Charlene and Beaufred and pretending to listen to Beaufred's ideas about the jail, he took a bath Charlene insisted he needed and finally made his way home and to his bed.

The next morning he woke up to the sun shining through his window as usual. He scratched his head, his blonde hair feel into his eyes and he swept it out of his face before scratching at the dry spittle on his face. He flung the thin blanket off of himself and grabbed a clean pair of pants before deciding to shave.

It wasnt' long before he was off to Poppy's. He hoped she'd calmed down some and would consider the trip to visit the villages. He wouldn't be able to ask her along if he thought she'd do something unnessecary, but if she wanted to make sure this didn't happen again, she'd attend peacefully. Besides, he wasn't going to make the trip out by himself, that was suicide and wanted someone that could handle a gun.

He reached the door and grimaced, here's hoping...

Sorry I've been gone for so long. I'm a bit confused as to what is going on right now. Could someone catch me up?

Howdy!

Well, to put it short... We've now started this challenge (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=950479&postcount=483) and we're currently in Round 1 (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=953316&postcount=530). Your gang leader has already PMed me this round's territory choice for the team you are on because both of you have been away. Feel free to contact her regarding that.

As for RP, you're supposed to be out in Tall Grass Prairie searching for Indian Villages to make peace with. I think that's about it.

Oh, and a friendly reminder for Peace teams 2 & 3 of the Ugly gang... You have about 13hours left to PM your territory choices. Remember, if someone else has already chosen that territory, you'll have to choose a different one.

((Because i forgot it was morning, i had to go back to my last posts and change it a bit, he's now been feed, cleaned, reenergized and freshly clothed.))

"Morning, Starks. I see you haven’t changed a bit since yesterday.” Poppy had opened the door and was now staring at Billy.

"Nice of you to notice, I see you havent' either..." Billy scratched his freshly shaven jawline before explaining the situation, hoping she'd comply. If she needed a horse, Beaufred had a few, though he was sure somewhere like Poppy Mills had more than one horse. He'd been polite and even smiled then waited in dead silence for his answer.

Poppy stared at Starks with an amused, self-satisfied smile for what seemed longer than necessary. “Butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth, would it, Billy Starks. Despite that, you’re on. The sooner we deal with restless, touchy natives, the better. I want them all sitting quiet and content in their f***ing teepees. Come on in, make yourself comfortable in the parlor. I’ll be with you right quick.”

Poppy started across the foyer toward the hall. “Oh. And I have a new horse. You’ll like him. He’s a biter.”

((Um...i'm not sure if my team sent in a vote where we're going to be going yet?))

Michaela was afraid of what the Indians might do to them. Elliot and her had gotten lucky on the hunting trip, and she hoped that they would get lucky again. She didn't want her fait to lay in the hands of an Indian destroying their belongings. Michaela knew that they were going to need her gun again, but not to kill animals, instead Indians.

In her heart she feared that they might not make it back, but in her head she knew that they could pull through and survive all of this. Michaela pulled out the gun and set it ontop of her bed. She knew that she was going to need some more bullets so she walked towards town to pick some up.

Michaela ran into Elliot at the shop where she was going to buy her bullets. They both gave eachother looks of fear, yet Elliots face comforted Michaela and she no longer felt upset about the whole matter.

“Oh. And I have a new horse. You’ll like him. He’s a biter.”

Billy walked in and rolled his eyes, taking a seat. Beaufred was getting the supplies and the boy ready while he talked to Poppy. Billy was glad she was being reasonable about it. He sat there bored out of his mind, having taken off his hat playing with the rim of it as he waited. however he was enjoying the comfortable chair. The opium business must pay alot better than getting his cut off of robberies and such, ofcourse most of his money went into savings, He was almost ready to buy up some land. When she finally appeared again, he stood up in hopes that she might be ready. Wow, when she's quite, she's rather pretty...

When Poppy returned to Starks, she couldn’t squelch a chuckle. He looked like he’d just seen her for the first time. “All set, Starks. Stella and a couple of the goons are out front waiting for us with the new Phosphor. Supplies are packed and ready. You ready?”

Billy stepped out back into the dry heat and saw Beaufred walking towards Him and Poppy with the boy and two horses. He glanced over to Poppy as she was mounting her horse and waiting when Beaufred reached them. He nodded to Poppy smiling and handed Lady's reins to Billy. "Everything's all ready Billy, and don't you worry! Tumbleweed will be in good hands with me! I'll do all your patrols and watch out for any trouble making drifters!"

"Yeah, okay, Beaufred, you do that." Billy mounted Lady and then waited as Beaufred helped the boy up on to the other horse and gave those reins to Billy as well. Both Horses were loaded down with meat and other supplies. Hopefully, they wouldn't have to use the guns that were hidden along in the supplies. The boy smiled and waved at Beaufred as they started off towards the end of town.

"Let's go..." He told Poppy

Well, round one was supposed to end today, but with ten minutes till the dead line, I'm still missing two territories from the Ugly gang.

I'm extending this round one more day. If I don't receive appropriate territory choices within 24 hours, then I'm afraid I'll have to give those teams an automatic miss. So, anyone from the Ugly Gang that feels so lead, feel free to PM me territory choices for team 2 (Aberle/Halse) and team 3 (Jack & Loretta).

Aspen was ready for this little native adventure. It couldn't be too different from the hunting trip right? She chuckled at the thought. In her opinion, the red skin had nothing to do with Poppy's horse's murder, if it could even be considered a murder. The only thing she wanted was to get them out of here, and to keep them out. Earlier in the, it seemed so long ago, was all of that horse drama. She recalled questioning Billy's leadership skills, but my god who wouldn't? The man was letting savages and horse killers run around.

Lolita was out of town. She had left a note on her neatly made bed this morning; the paper now crunched in a tight fist. Aspen uncrumpled it and read it over, exaiming her lousy handwritting through the unruly creases. It said,

"Dear Aspen,

I'm out to get some supplies, sorry you'll be down a woman. I'm sure you can get Michaela to come and work if you must. Well, I should be back 'round noon, so I can get a good night rest for the journey tomorrow. Thanks for being so understanding!

Lolita."

Aspen wasn't sure whether to be angry she had left without telling her, or amused. After that sleazy incident in front of Halse, she wasn't sure what to think of her. He looked disgusted. She frowned. My god, you can be a whore, but at least act a little bit more classy. Aspen found herself once again questioning her hospitality toward her. These days her head was always throbbing, and her mouth dry. Nights were full of restless tossing. Maybe today she would visit Dr. Josh.

[[ Stylequeen- I hope I didn't god-mod you too bad, but Aspen was getting bored in the saloon ]]

“Hold it a minute, Starks. I’ll be right back.” Poppy dismounted and approached Stella. “Instead of Tong and Ling, send Sun and Tiantian to station 1. Tong and Ling to station 2. Tian and Ting can man station 3. That should make it easier for you. Keep the wispies happy, Stella. I’ll see you when I see you.”

Poppy returned to Phosphor, mounted, and smiled at Starks. “Alrighty then, William, let’s go get ‘em.”

Calming the Natives – Round 1
There was a wide range of emotions as the teams headed out into Tumbleweed Valley. Some scared, some bold, but all wanted to return home sooner rather than later. For four teams, their wish was granted.

Congratulations to the following teams! You have found a restless Indian tribe, and successfully came to a peace agreement.

For the Good:
Julia & Tom
For the Bad:
Sheriff Billy and Poppy
For the Ugly:
Aberle/Halse & Pepper
Jack & Loretta

Halse exited shortly after hearing about the native. He already had some idea on what was going to happen, or rather, what needed to be done. All around him, the dry winds carried the voices of the rugged men of the town, and they spoke in elated voices at the prospect of calming down the natives. Whoever got back first would surely be honored. A great exasperation overcame him. Halse had the negotiating skills to the ratio that Aberle had combat skills. Why did it seem that these events kept falling on horribly off dates?

Halse lingered in the street, his hands dug into his pockets as he thought for a moment. He would need to travel with someone, but who? Not Jack, he never got along well with Jack. Dr. Josh could very well be a good choice, and he seemed to be a levelheaded man, however, he was probably already making plans of his own. His heart sunk into his stomach. The best choice, it would seem, was to go with…his eyes trailed to the bakery and settled there for a moment. The least acceptant of his existence in the entire group. Lovely.

His shoulders heaved as he exhaled, and he made his way to the bakery, pushing aside the doors with a loud clatter.

“Aberle?” Pepper questioned, and Halse could see her leaning over the counter. “I don’t have anything made at the moment, you’ll just have t-”
Halse frowned and lingered momentarily in the doorway, “It’s me, Pepper.” He could see Pepper’s cheerful air pop and deflate at his rather informal introduction.

“What do you want?” she questioned, and placed her hands on her hips, stepped out from behind the counter. “You’re going to mess around and scare off my customers.”

Halse sighed, and crossed his arms, “I need your help.” At this Pepper herself crossed her arms. Her eyes narrowed with suspicion and her head cocked to the right as she eyed him with mistrust.

“You need [i]my help? What for?”

Halse, again, exhaled noisily, “Have you not heard about the natives? Everyone in town is talking about how they’re going to go out and find them, calm them, and the first ones to arrive back will be honored. It’s common knowledge to know that we’ll be going out there to help. I-”

“You are wanting to go?” she inquired incredulously. “Why, they’d rain down on our town the moment you opened your mouth!” Pepper seemed to have a new resolve, and she darted around the counter and began to grope about. Halse grimaced as a few rather sharp objects clattered by his feet. She was back in mere seconds, with a sack filled with belongings tossed over her shoulder and a pie in hand. “If you insist on going, you’re going to need someone that is kind and considerate, and knows how to work her way into the hearts of others,” she sighed merrily, and Halse’s nostrils flared as he rolled his eyes.

“You’re going to bribe them with a pie?” he questioned, looking disdainful.

Pepper frowned, “Of course. Sweets are the way to anyone’s heart,” she placed her hand over her heart for an added effect. “Regardless of race or gender. Sweets are something everyone can appreciate! Now, let’s go!” she cried, and proceeded to grab Halse around the wrist and drag him off.

*

When Halse and Pepper had finally arrived at an Indian village, he was rather taken aback by the success they had. Pepper's pie, had, in fact, proven to be quite good leverage despite Halse's doubts. He himself had even gotten along well with the natives quite well, and had somehow managed to present himself in a calm and thoughtful manner. They weren't at all violent like he'd thought they might turn out to be.

[Edit: Weee! :D I actually picked something right. Good luck WooHoo and Veldagia.]

Billy returned home bareing a lighter horse and was more than happy to be home. Poppy had said her goodbyes and rode home as he sat on Lady riding around doing a light check before he made it home to put lady in her stall and himself in his bed. He was slightly disappointed to see that Calista, Ellie, Aspen, and Lolita had not returned but pushed it from his mind as he headed home. It was alot faster than he'd expected and was just happy that the villiage was more than willing to Negotiate and look for peaceful endings.

He asked Beaufred to take the rest of the day's checks as he made his way to his bed. Beaufred chuckled and made some joke that normally would have made Billy want to shoot him, but tonight, he was content on just simply ignoring him. Which honestly would have been what he would have done anyway, since Charlene liked her husband to breath.

[[ EH! I'm so confused. So, the people who didn't choose correctly choose again? But we don't know which ones are taken? :? ]]

Shenanigans_SC
23rd Jul 2007, 5:45 AM
Pandaness: To answer your question the short way... Yes, the people who did not choose correctly the first time around need to choose again. And partially yes, you don't know which ones are taken, however you should know the three that your gang had last round, so you know those three are off limits.

Lets see if I can clarify things for ya. All in all, it sort of reminds me of the game Battleship.

Think of it in physical terms. You have a large field, and in that field are nine Indian villages. Yet, it's uncharted land so to say, you don't know where those villages are. With three teams from three Gangs, Tumbleweed Valley on a whole has nine "peace teams". So each team needs to find one village to do their part in making peace with the Indians.

The villages are hidden in Tall Grass Prairie, so you don't know where they are. However, they are always in the same place, as they do not move. So, once a team has found one village, and made peace with those natives living there, they have done their part, and return home to Tumbleweed Valley. But if you did not find a village, then you have not accomplished your goal yet and must remain in the prairie until you've done your part, ie calmed one village worth of natives.

You won't know where the other Gangs' teams have gone, true, but you should be communicating with the other teams in your own gang so you don't go someplace they've already been. I PMed the three Gang leaders a review of where their teams went in round one. So, in round two, you should be trying different places than what was tried the first round.

Something to keep in mind for round two that differs from round one. In round one, all Indian Villages were angry with our characters. Now, four of those villages have been greeted by a peace team, and are not angry anymore. So if a team comes across a village that has already been visited, that will not count for that team. There's nine villages total, so each team needs to find a different village. We don't want any of the indians mad at us still.

I hope that helps. I'm not sure what else to say unless there's a specific question. If you can figure out the clue correctly, you'd have a pretty good idea as to where all the villages are. Now the trick is to hit the ones that have not been visited already.

I hope this helps and I didn't actually make it worse! :)

Poppy arrived home to Stella’s happy welcome. She asked Stella about how she and the Poppy Mill had fared during the owner’s absence and upon learning that everything was fine turned over Phosphor and the dregs of the trip’s supplies to her friend’s good care.

Glad to finally be in her bedroom, Poppy pulled off her boots and clothing and sprawled naked on one of her divans with a glass of vodka. The “successful” peace mission had been tedious what with dealing with the taciturn natives and trying to be jolly with Starks. He reminded her of stories she had heard about her father when he was a young man. A chip on his shoulder a mile wide. Petty and mean. From that picture her mind wandered to her final encounter with Pedro Sven Hubert Chestnut. She had come upon Pedro in the barn doing the dirty with her favorite mare and had grabbed a pitchfork, burying it first in her parent’s buttocks and then over and over into his face. She had been surprised that she felt only fury, and not fear or regret or guilt. Miss Peony, as everyone had called her back then, simply replaced the pitchfork where she had found it and sauntered coolly to the house to tell her mother about an accident in the barn.

Even tonight, years later, Poppy felt no guilt, no fear, no regret. About anything. She wasn’t sure whether that made her cursed or blessed, but she was damned satisfied with herself. She felt only fury at the unknown sh*t who had killed Phosphor. She mentally readied her pitchfork.

((OOC: Is it ok if I godmode Tom a bit? Julieth hasn't been on for a while, so I thought I'd just take over for this challenge))

Julia prepared for the journey waiting ahead for her. She was prepared for what she was about to do. Hearing about the natives frightened her a bit, seeing as she didn't really know how it all started, but it would be okay. She was used to calming people down, she did it all the time with children when they got upset, or became impatient, all you had to do was be calm and patient and the rest will follow.

Walking down the street, she headed over to the post office, where Tom was. She hoped he wouldn't mind that she was taking over a bit, she was just so prepared. "Tom," she asked. "You there?" She turned to see him come out of the doorway, looking ready as ever.

"All set, ready to go?" he replied. She nodded in return, giving a smile as she walked out the door with Tom following close behind.

When the two came back, Julia was extremely happy with how they did. They had great success with calming them down, although it was not as easy as calming down children. She thanked Tom for his help, for he also contributed, and continued back to her house, where she took an apple in her hand and looked out the window, wondering what the next day would bring.

After fourteen hours of sleep, Poppy was feeling good. Good enough to have lunch in the formal dining room. Stella had served it beautifully, placing a large bowl of fresh magnolias near the artfully arranged food. Poppy smiled at the table and settled comfortably into the large upholstered chair at her place.

She began with the compote filled with fruit and liquor. Poppy usually ate dessert first, an old custom engendered in her family by her grandmother, Touraloura Langtry. It was spiced just right and put a glow in Poppy’s cheeks. She followed the fruit with a piece of home-baked sesame roll covered in newly churned butter. Wonderful. Next she sampled some of Stella’s bay crab cakes and crispy calamari…they were worthy of Delmonico’s. A bubbly slice of salmon quichelike pie then settled nicely in her tummy. A contented sigh escaped her lips.

She took a glass of Irish Charlie with her to the bay windows, enjoying her yard through the French lace curtains. When she had finished her drink, she moved to her office and scanned the paperwork on her desk. Then she eased the leather chair back and relaxed with her feet supported by the desktop…. How to find and slaughter the a****** who had killed Phosphor…. Perhaps she’d confide in Tiantian. He’d been useful in such endeavors in the past.

Having been unsucessful in their last attempt, Katherine and Jonathan decided to set out again the next day. She was just finishing getting ready when she heard a knock on the door. She had taken Emily-Rose over to the neighbour's house again, so she didn't have to worry about her.

As they rode through the plains Dr Josh did his best to be entertaining. Roxy made him slightly uncomfortable, he always felt he had to be at his most charming around her. He knew that was all in his own head. If he could only dismiss what she might think. But she was a woman he could admire. Usually from afar for risk of letting slip something that would get him shot.

He was starting to ache from the riding, the muscles in his legs and back beginning to protest. They had travelled miles through the plains without a sight of a native let alone a village. The sun was high in the sky, a great golden orb beating down with scorching heat upon his back. A thin bead of sweat dripped from his brow and he wiped his hand roughly across his face. Squinting his eyes to try and see any signs of life around. This was hopeless.

Pulling his horse to a stop he turned to Roxy. “Perhaps we should pause here in the shade for a while. Let the sun go down a little and replenish before continuing.”

Without waiting for a reply he dismounted from his horse removing a thick brown leather sack before letting the stallion roam freely to browse upon the scatterings of grass. He lay out a patchwork sheet upon the ground and settled himself upon it. Thankful for the coolness offered in the shade of the tree. He began tearing big strips off the bread and gulped down some water. The natives must be around here somewhere. Hiding and watching their every movement. He ran his hand down to his boot, adjusting the strap which held the long sharp knife in place. A surgeon’s tool, but he was never unarmed. He was relying on Roxy bringing some feminine diplomacy when they found a village. He would be the backup if that failed.

Calming the Natives – End of Round 2
The day wore on, the sun relentlessly shining down upon the Prairie. Three more teams would find an Indian village today, but only two of them would return home successful.

For the Good:
Michaela and Elliot found an Indian village and were successful in coming to terms of peace with its leaders. However Katherine and Jonathan continued to roam around the prairie, lost as could be.

For the Bad:
Calista and Ellie found an Indian village. However, they were soon disappointed to find that Halse and Pepper had already been there earlier. This team will have to continue their search for a village to make peace with. Meanwhile Aspen and Lolita continued to roam around the prairie, lost as could be.

For the Ugly:
Dr. Josh and Roxy found an Indian village and were successful in coming to terms of peace with its leaders.

=====

Congratulations Ugly Gang… as the first to find three villages, you are the winners of this challenge. However, you may not choose a building just yet. To give something for the Good and the Bad to work for, whoever returns to town second will be safe from having a building taken. That’s right, the Ugly’s building choice will be limited to the buildings of the gang that comes home last.

Here’s an overview of how the two remaining gangs have done. I will send a recap of territory choices to each Gang leader that they can then pass on to their teams.

The Good:
1. Katherine & Johnathan – still in the prairie
2. Michaela & Elliot – now returning home
3. Julia & Tom – already home

The Bad:
1. Aspen & Lolita – still in the prairie
2. Calista & Ellie – still in the prairie
3. Sheriff Billy & Poppy – already home

Katherine & Johnathan, Aspen & Lolita, and Calista & Ellie, you have three days from this post to PM me your next territory choice for round 3.

Tiantian left Poppy’s office with detailed instructions regarding the mystery of Phosphor’s death. Nothing and no one in town would be overlooked, and all misdeeds uncovered would be dealt with appropriately.

Satisfied, Poppy unlocked and opened one of the “closet” doors in her sanctuary. Although Tumbleweed had no public telegraph facilities, the second closet, almost as big as her largest bathroom, contained the latest electronic communicator. She had two messages to send east. The first was to Bartholomew Roberts IV, direct descendent of the infamous Black Bart. Poppy transmitted one word to him: “Yes.” The next message was sent to Emilie Charlotte Le Breton. It read “BR informed. Remit package two.”

Poppy stretched, locked the closet and the office, and went to her bath where she immersed herself in a tub filled with lukewarm water and scents. She soaked until she was fully relaxed. Then she donned her new peach silk dress and strolled along Main Street, her only destination being whomever, if anyone, she happened to meet.

Shenanigans - This could take forever, seeing as there are only 3 villages left, 3 teams, and 18 territories (minus those each team already know are hits or misses). Is there a chance that we might speed things up a little, by you letting us know not only if the territory has been claimed in this round, but if there is an already calmed village there? But if there's a village that hasn't been calmed yet, or if it's an empty territory, you still say nothing?
Know what I mean?

Not trying to tell you how to run this contest, I'm just bummed having Calista out on the prairie with a rather inactive companion, because I can't RP. *lol*
So it's just a suggestion. :)

Atropa - I understand what you're saying. These rounds are lasting far longer than I had hoped they would. Just because I give three days doesn't mean peace teams have to take that whole time. If everyone could get a choice in quicker, the round would go quicker. I just need the two territory choices from the two Bad teams for this round then we can move on. If the challenge doesn't end with this round, then I'll think of something that would be fair to help speed things up.

((Whoo high five to Elliot and Michaela!))

Michaela was happy that they came to peace with the indians. She hoped that her other friends made it home before them, so she wouldn't have to do any worrying. It was great all the time she was spending with Elliot, usually they would only see eachother once ever two weeks, and that was if they actually passed eachother on the way to the store. He was such a great guy and even though it seems as if he knows nothing about his territory deep down inside he really does. Michaela shook her head to knock the thoughts out, she was starting to sound like one of those damn dramatic plays.

When she arrived home she invited Elliot over for some supper. She didn't feel like spending another evening alone in her old rickety house. That night she decided to cook up some of the game they had killed with some cornbread. There was only a little bit of milk to drink, since her cow was getting old and wasn't producing milk like she used to.

Elliot quickly accepted Michaela's offer of dinner. Anything to postpone another attempt at cooking! As always, her food was delicious. Elliot sighed as he leaned back in his chair. Now that his belly was full, the exhaustion of the trip was starting to set in. He knew he should be getting back to his house soon. It was getting late, not to much longer before it would be considered improper for him to be here at all. He would just rest a second, his mind drifting back over there visit with the wild Indians white people had so much fear of. They didn't seem very savage in his opinion. Sure they did not have the common modern technology, but that was to be expected. He did not see their culture as heathen, just different. And who said the whites were the only one with the good culture? He had studied enough history to know all humans could be considered savages. Elliot wondered if the tribe would be willing to let him return, perhaps for a longer time. He could learn so much more if only he had a chance to live amoung them... His mind drifted as he planned out the book he would write of his time spent with the natives.

((I am leaving town for 2 weeks tuesday night. I am hoping to be able to bring my laptop with me, just incase the place I am staying has wireless. I don't know how often I'll be able to get online,if at all, so if there are anymore choices just pick for me.))

The next day was usual for Billy, and especially boring since some of them weren't even there. The Saloon and the General Store was closed. A little before dinner, He made his way to the bakery. He figured he'd bring dessert to Charlene's tonight. Mostly because he was tired of eatting her corn pudding. He was walking that way down main st when he saw Poppy. He smiled at her and tipped his hat, "You look lovely tonight, any occasion?"

((I'm at a standstill, lol, so sorry for the short RP... I've got an Idea, but i'll have to work around the rough area's and send it to Shennaingans to make sure it will work out... ))

He smiled at her and tipped his hat, "You look lovely tonight, any occasion?"

“Hello, Mr. Bill,” Poppy cooed. “No special occasion. Perhaps a little bit of a high owing to our successful trip. You were wonderful with the natives. That got us back here that much more quickly. I don’t like to travel. I like being other places, but trips in and of themselves I find deadly boring. And speaking of boring, what do you think of the developments at the Inn? I mean, about the problems Roxana and Jack are said to be having. I’ve always thought an establishment of co-owners was a bad concept. Much too difficult to work expediently regardless of the goodwill. And when the co-owners think highly of each other in nonbusiness terms…I mean amorously…it’s well-nigh impossible. But then perhaps the seriousness of the problems that have been circulating has been overstated. I hope so. And you?”

((Sorry for not RPing so long, I was veeeery busy :anime: ))

Jonathan was sitting on the back of his horse, Stellan. Behind him followed Katherine, who looked tired.
Stopping Stellan at a small river, Jonathan said "Let's rest for a moment. The horses need water and we should discuss where to ride next."

The two of them had been on their way for a few days now, but still they hadn't managed to find the Natives they were searching for. The man knew that this was very important to Katherine and he felt sorry for not being a greater help.

Jonathan took a piece of paper out of his pocket and unfolded it. Showing the map to the woman, he said "Here, I think this might be a good place to find some of them. We should be able to reach that today, must be 3 hours or so from here. What do you think?"
Waiting for an answer, he thought "Hopefully she'll make it this long. She looks like she would prefer to ride home again instead ... But how can I know what she wants?" In the few day they knew each other, they hadn't spoken to much about personal things, he didn't even know where her husband was, as he thought it would be impolite to ask ...

The last three peace teams from Tumbleweed Valley found themselves among Natives as the day would soon come to an end.

For The Bad: Aspen & Lolita were able to use their feminine “charm” to bring about a peace agreement with the leaders of the tribe they had found. Unfortunately for Calista and Ellie, the village they had found in the prairie had been already visited by Dr. Josh and Roxy.

For the Good: Katherine & Jonathan were successfully able to befriend the Natives at the Tribe they had found.

Congrats Good, you’re second place, so your buildings are safe for this round. But ultimate congrats to The Ugly gang! You have three days from this post to discuss among yourselves and PM me the building currently owned by The Bad that you want to add to your territory. (You can find the map in this post (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=937261&postcount=7) if you'd like.

I thought I’d take the time to try to explain the clue for anyone who wanted it. The die was not representing a number of any sort, instead the dots on the die were the pattern of the villages. The die was purposefully put upside down in an effort to encourage the thought of the numbers 5 & 1 not actually being the clue. Here’s a side by side of the villages and the die. The pictures will probably explain better than I can.

*edit*: Oops... I forgot to say, Calista and Ellie, feel free to return home now too. One angry Indian village isn't going to cause much commotion since the other eight are peaceful now.

Back in town Dr Josh tied up his horse in a free area of the stables. After hearing about the unfortunate incident with Poppy’s horse he didn’t want his stallion leaving out in the open. He needed a reliable way to get to emergencies fast so the stallion was one of his most treasured possessions. He glanced around as he stripped the horse down but it appeared Calista had not yet returned. He wondered briefly how she was, if the arm was holding out on her OK? He left a note and some change in an envelope under the saddle where he hoped she’d look. It should cover the keep of the horse for a few weeks. She’d know it was his.

He strolled down the street feeling pleased with himself. The natives had seemed a friendly bunch. Having vaguely heard of his name they were never under any real danger, still it was good to be back on familiar territory. He glanced towards the surgery wondering if he should check up on things. No, he decided, Jeanne would send a search party out for him if he was desperately needed. Besides he deserved a night off after his early wakening the other day.

With that he sauntered into the salon and propping himself against the bar ordered a large jar of ale.

(OCC Atropa hope its OK dumping the horse on Calista

When Calista returned to town that evening, she was in a foul mood. She was tired, dirty, and her arm was hurting. And on top of that she'd been bouncing around on her horse on the prarie for the past few days, and didn't have a thing to show for it. What a waste of time! She could've spent it doing other, better and more productive things. She still needed money, seeing as how what she had now would be used to buy off sheriff Starks, and get more ammo and some new guns from Aberle. She didn't exactly need new guns, but they would make her feel better. Sort of like a consolation for being talked into leading a peace party that ended up doing no good, no good at all.
She was mad at herself for failing, and she was mad at the natives they'd been searching for, for being so impossible to find, and she was mad at the two native villages they had found, simply because they'd been so friendly and humble in explaining that they had already made peace with the citizens of Tumbleweed Valley.
And who was it that had talked her into all this? Starks!
Boy, was she mad at him, too!
Although deep down she knew his intentions had been good. For once. But that did little to calm her right now. She needed to be angry, and get it all out of her system.

Coming to a halt outside of the stables, she dismounted, still fuming and muttering to herself, hissing all kinds of bad words through her clenched teeth.
Once inside she discovered a new horse in a booth that had been empty when she'd left, and upon taking a closer look she soon realized it must be Dr Cooper's horse. A few moments later her suspicions were confirmed when she found the note and the money he'd left. And judging by the amount, it seemed he'd like to keep the animal there for a while.
Calista nodded to herself, and slid the money into one of her pockets. He'd taken good care of her. Now she'd take good care of him in return. Well, his horse anyway. She'd see to it that it was well looked after, with the best fodder and at least one good grooming a day.

After having put her own horse in it's booth, she left, carefully locking the stable behind her.
But she didn't feel like going upstairs and go to bed. She was still mad, so she probably wouldn't be able to fall asleep anyway.
Instead she started walking down the street, with no particular goal in mind. She was hoping the cool evening air would work it's magic and soothe her temper.

Stupid Indians.
The door to the General Store closed with a snap, sending some papers flying everywhere. Cursing under my breath, I disregarded the new mess and made my way to the living quarters above the store.
All of the peace teams made peace with a tribe of indians. All of them, except me and Calista, who also seemed to be fuming. I wasted my time, ran around the prairie like a lost cow for days and for what?
Nothing.
Being unbeleivably dirty, my first task was to wash up. After doing so, I stood in the store thinking over what I felt like doing. There was no way I was going to go through the trouble I did and not treat myself to some sort of treat to cancel out whatever was annoying me.
I crossed my arms, tapping my foot. The saloon sounded fun, or maybe the bakery, I felt in the mood for apple pie.
However, the bakery was further down the road, where as the saloon was just across the street.
In the time it took for me to decide, I could have walked to the bakery and back twenty times, which wouldnt have been all that hard seeing as it really isnt that far away. But...the saloon was closer.
I made up my mind. Customers could wait. There was no way I was going to help make somebodys life better until Ive worked on mine first.
Regardless, as I locked up the shop before making my way to the saloon, I left a note telling anybody where I would be if they really needed me that badly.
Upon entering, I sat down at the bar and told the girl behind what I wanted, not paying attention to whether it was Aspen or Lolita I was talking to.

(( Well bads, we'll get em next time. WE BETTER! *huff huff* ))

Aspen's feet ached from the Indian calming. She wasn't even sure what to call it. It was so stupid, she had to go to every damn Indian and sweet talk her way to peace, even if they couldn't understand her. Next time, whatever she had to do out of town, she would not wear heeled shoes.

Dragging her feet through the dirt, then the steps, and finally the wood, she noticed someone was in the Saloon already. She doubted it was Lolita, but she bellowed up the stairs calling her name anyway. No answer. She looked around, and spotted Ellie seated at the bar. She looked seriously pissed. Perhaps she needed a drink. She waltzed around the counter and faced her. "Hey there, heard your trip didn't work out too well." Aspen noted playfully. Ellie glared back. "Well, let's not talk about that... You want a drink? If not, I think I'm closing up for the day. I have to go see the doctor. So take your pick."

Billy nodded, listening to Poppy and smiled. "I've not really thought about it. Everyone talks, but you should know better than anyone to not believe anything you hear, and half of what you see." Poppy nodded and they sat there a bit longer making small talk. About business and Tumbleweed and even a few about those Ting and Tong people of hers. They didn't seem to come outside of Poppy Mills much, and when they did, they never spoke. He was curious to know if they even spoke english.

He started to realize that people were coming back into town. Ellie didn't even acknowledge them as she went straight into the general store and slammed the front door. "What's happened now?" He interrupted Poppy in mid sentence, "Excuse me, i think i should go find out what the fuss is about, Enjoy your evening." He was headed to the Store when he spotted Calista. Her hair was falling a bit from under her hat and out of the braid she seemed to have it in, framing her face. She saw him and gave him an odd look. Billy sighed and wondered if he should even ask. All of a sudden, he had an urge for a drink.

He saw Aspen and Lolita coming in and figured it was about time to see how everyone faired. Looks like he'd get that Drink after all, but first...

"Ms. Calista, and how did you fair?"

-----------------------Atropa wrote for Calista-----------------------
"Ms. Calista, and how did you fair?"

Calista had seen him approach, and thus had had a chance to brace herself. Blowing up at the sheriff infront of an audience was not how she wished her evening to end.
But at hearing his words, all such restraint was lost.

"How did we fair?!" she exploded. "We didn't! It was a damn waste of time!"

Had she had just one ounce less instinct of self-preservation, she would've probably slapped him right then and there, but luckily she managed to suppress that urge. Instead she clenched her jaws shut for a few moments. After all, she didn't want to spend this, of all nights, in jail.

"I've been running around the prairie in the blazing sun for days, just because you thought you had a bright idea", she continued in a lower voice, but still alarmingly testy. "I had better things to do, you know. Like taking care of my business. And yours, in the long-run, if you get my drift?"

Realizing she was getting herself worked up once again, she paused, and took a deep breath to try and calm down. Once she felt she was back in control of her temper, she continued yet again;

"Seeing as how it was you that sent us out there in the first place, don't expect to see any money from me any time soon, because how can I possibly make my business pay off when I'm off running your errands? I know I have Emmett to look after the stable when I'm not there, but that man is one bullet short of a full round. He doesn't know good business, he only knows how to do what he's told."

Annoyed, she brushed a few strands of hair away from her face to glare at him, and without thinking crossed her arms. Immediately she was punished, the pain shooting through her injured arm and causing her to flinch.

-----------------------foolinthemoon for Billy-----------------------

Billy narrowed his eyes on Calista as her temper flared. He cliched his teeth down hard. The last thing he needed to do was to cause a scene, especially one about illegal happenings that he just happened to be involved in. "Are you done yet? You of all people should know when to keep your mouth shut about things. I'll give you one week to get that money to me. Do not keep pushing my limits." He spotted Ellie walking towards the Saloon now and followed. He REALLY wanted that drink now. He figured that Ellie would be mad about the same thing, or something resembling so he walked passed her and up to Aspen. "How 'bout something real strong... and make it a double."

It had been a handful of days since the last of Tumbleweed residents had return from Tall Grass Prairie. A sort of lull had come to rest over the town. There wasn’t much of anything going on and many members of Tumbleweed Valley had begun to get restless.

Sheriff Billy sat in the jail with his feet up on his desk. There was a single fly that apparently made it his sole purpose in life to annoy the Sheriff to no end. As Sheriff Starks used the rolled up newspaper to take another swat at the pest the front door was thrown open, an out of breath Beaufred came stumbling in. “Did you lose your horse again?” the Sheriff teased his bumbling deputy.
Beufred leaned against the wall, holding his side in an effort to catch his breath. “The pass… through Big Horn Mountains… there’s carriages… coming this way…”
“Well then,” the Sheriff said as he flung the newspaper onto his desk, grabbing his hat as he stood up. “I suppose I oughta go out an greet them properly.”

Billy untied Lady from out front and quickly headed towards the mountains. It wasn’t long before he saw the party that had gotten Beufred all worked up. They had stopped on the side of the road; it looked as if the lead carriage had broken an axle. A young lad lay under the carriage assumingly trying to figure out the situation, a rather distinguished gentleman stood outside, kicking rocks and yelling obscenities. The Sheriff smiled, the sight was rather amusing after all. As he got closer he could see that this man was obviously rich. He was wearing the finest clothes Billy had seen in a long time. The Sheriff immediately thought of how he could help the man, out of his money that is.

The Sheriff dismounted when he came close to the carriage. “Why now, looks like you may be having a bit of trouble there.” The man took a hanker chief out of his pocket; as he wiped his brow with his left hand, he reached out with his right to shake Billy’s hand. “A man of the law, I sure am glad to see you. I’m Welman, Welman Fargo.” As soon as the man’s name had left his lips, a light bulb went off over Billy’s head. This was a rather well known, rich business man. A rich business man who was known to be loose with his business, if you catch my drift.

The Sheriff introduced himself and wasted no time sizing up the opportunity that had been laid at his feet. Meanwhile the wealthy business man went on and on about where he was heading too when the stupid carriage broke, and how good help was so hard to find now a days, not to mention he sure could use a good drink. That’s when Billy knew he had to seize the opportunity. “Why don’t I escort you to town, and introduce you to all the right folks.” the Sheriff said with a wink.

Sheriff Billy escorted the entourage into town, explaining where Calista’s livery stables were, and the Poppy Mill of course. “While my boys get to the Forge to take care of that busted carriage of mine, why don’t you let me buy you a drink Sheriff? It’s the least I could do.” The Sheriff was never one to turn down a free drink.

Inside the Saloon, Aspen was tiding up behind the bar when she saw Sheriff Starks walk in with a well dressed man following behind him. Quickly recognizing fresh meat, she adjusted her cleavage before they sat at the bar. “Why, hello there,” she said with a smile, “what can I get you two fine gentlemen?” Mr. Fargo leaned in towards Aspen, “Well now pretty lady, I think I’d like to have the house specialty.”

After several drinks, Mr. Fargo decided he had liked it there and wanted to stay for a spell. He’d be sure to visit Tumbleweed Inn later to get a room. “So what ya’ll do around here for fun?” he asked. “I’m afraid I can’t tell you,” Aspen teased him, motioning towards Sheriff Starks, “in the presence of the law that is.”

“How about cards… ya’ll play cards? I don’t mean them low stakes baby cards that those guys are playing over there,” he said pointing at two drunks slobbering over cards at a table, “I mean for big bucks.” “Well I can’t say we have.” Aspen answered him. “I’m afraid I just don’t have the money to host a thing like that.” “Well, hell! I’ve got the money! Whadda say Sheriff? Will you let this pretty little lady have a little fun?” Sheriff Starks wasn’t about to tell the man no. The longer Fargo was around town, the longer the Sheriff would have to make his way into his back pocket. And so it was decided. Tumbleweed Valley would have a poker tournament. With a large cash prize for the winner.

=====

For this challenge you need to put on your best poker face! We will be using the Flash Poker (http://forums.sims2community.com/arcade.php?do=play&gameid=77) in the arcade area of these forums. Everyone is encouraged to give it their best, and if you achieve a high score make sure to submit it. At the end of six days, whoever has the highest score wins this round's challenge for their gang and wins the prize money, but more importantly wins enough influence to add a building to their gang’s territory. Currently redwing, who is our Poppy, holds the title of Poker champion. So ya’ll have your work cut out for you!

A few notes regarding RP. Mr. Welman Fargo (Wells Fargo for short hardy har har) is a rich business man that you are all encouraged to use, abuse, godmod whatever. He's loose with his money and price is no problem when it comes to having a good time. Just treat him nice till he leaves town then you can rob him blind. If your character is not the gambling type, then feel free to preoccupy them with something else. But I encourage everyone to RP a poker tournament taking place in the Saloon this week, ultimately ending six days from now. If there are any questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks foolin for entrusting me with your character. And Pandaness... I hope I didn't take Aspen too far out of her character.

Now, may the gambling commence!

Dr Josh examined the child. The poor boy was streaming everywhere, obviously only a cold but still the mother had insisted on brining the contagious creature into his surgery. There was nothing he could do, but still he checked him over, absentmindly looking for any rashes or signs of a high fever. Whilst he worked he ignored the mother’s chatter. The usual town gossip sprouting from her lips as though he could care what another’s wife wore out to town. But his interest was piqued when she spoke of a gambling tournament in town. Her disapproval evident in her haughty tone.

Hiding his interest he enquired of the time and place faking his disapproval to such frivolous ways. Now gambling was not his finest skill. Far from it. But still with money to burn it was a pleasant way to pass a few hours. A good match was always good for business. He could rely on a little trouble starting, a handy brawl. Anything to flare a few tempers was always good, the results kept him busy. Mending a few cuts or broken bones so everyone could continue their everyday lives when the dust settled.

Once he’d learned all he could from the busybody. He declared the child needing bed rest and thick broth for the remainder of the day. Then hushed them out of his surgery. If the boy’s temperature rose Jeanette would be in to happily sell them an overpriced tincture. The measly coins gained from an appointment a pure waste of his time.

Thankfully the surgery was now deserted. He adorned his hat and coat and took his leave. With a spring in his step he headed to the saloon. Whistling a spirited little tune to himself.

Greeting the barmaid with a slight tip of his hat. He needed a nice easy drink to pace the night out. “I’ll have a long malt to start it off. How’s business?” He enquired, making pleasant small talk, whilst she brought his drink. His eyes casting around for the rich business man he’d heard would be hosting the match.

[[ NOOO I don't even know how to play poker ;-; At least we have Poppy on our side ;) Oh, and you played Aspen just how I would have. ]]

“Well, hell! I’ve got the money! Whadda say Sheriff? Will you let this pretty little lady have a little fun?” Fargo directed to the Sheriff. Aspen had felt uneasy about the man from the moment he stepped in her saloon. He was attractive, but he just looked like one of those idiots from the east coast. A filthy rich idiot. She hadn't given anyone the "house specialty" in a while, nor had she played poker in years. If she could somehow manage to win, she might be able to get enough spending money. However, if he was holding a tournament here, she would get plenty business. There were, of course, other ways to hustle him out of some money of course.

Doctor Josh walked in, the small brass bell on the door chiming. He greeted her with a slight tip of his hat. “I’ll have a long malt to start it off. How’s business?” He enquired. She quickly got his drink, talking to him, her back facing. "Slow, unsteady. We've had so many problems going around no one's really had time for a good drink. Hopefully this poker tournament will draw in some business..." She could tell he was only half-listening, as he was probably looking for Fargo himself. She slid the cold drink to him in a rose-etched, slightly scratched, glass. "But I've been meaning to see you. I haven't been sleeping quite right, well, not at all really. And I was wondering if you had anything that could knock me out?"

[[Well, I'm leaving tomorrow to go to my friend in another state's house and I won't be able to get on until next saturday or sunday. I should be back by the time the tournament ends, so untill then feel free to god-mod me and such. I'll be on for the rest of today though.]]

Billy smiled at Fargo and looked at Aspen to see her reaction, she smiled but excused her self to tend to the good doctor who just came in. He looked at Fargo and lightly slapped him on the back. "Fargo, sounds fun, You got yourself a deal!" With that the two men shook hands before he was distracted by Lolita who was now giggling and winking.

He turned toward's Dr. Josh as Aspen set his drink infront of him and came and sat beside him putting his empty cup on the bar and giving Aspen a wink. "So, Doc, How's business lately? I noticed you've been having more and more supplies coming in every week. Guess Tumbleweed has some clumsy people inhabiting it." The sherriff smirked and leaned back slightly smelling the strong brandy in the glass before downing it.

Poppy lolled down the road behind a Billy who was suddenly in a hurry. She comported herself at her ladylike best, which was considerable when she wanted it to be. He headed into the saloon. She pretended to drop her parasol and took her time picking it up. She got to the saloon several minutes after Billy had disappeared into it. She surveyed the joint before entering. “Perfect,” she smiled to herself.

Poppy made her way slowly around the room and among the tables, nodding at unknown drinkers and wishing those she had seen before “Good evening.” It wasn’t long before she got the gist of everyone’s conversations.

Nah, not really. She likes Billy. Usually.

-----------------------------------

If Calista had been fuming before, words could not describe the mood she was in now. With Billy taking his leave without giving her a chance to reply, she was left standing in the middle of the road, fighting the urge to scream out of pure anger and frustration. How dared he? How dared he treat her like that, like... like... a woman! A nag, a nuisance! He had some nerve!
Quickly she spun around, the thought of following and attacking him darting through her mind. But what good would it do? The only thing to her advantage would be the element of surprise, if even that. She wasn't sure how well he knew her temper. Maybe he'd expect her to try and fight him? If so, he'd be prepared, and she wouldn't stand a chance. He was, after all, stronger than her. No matter how much she despised that fact, she couldn't very well deny it. And with her injured arm, she wouldn't even offer much of a challenge. Plus, if she did attack him, despite it all, he would lock her up for sure. She simply couldn't afford that.

Instead, she had to settle with glaring at him as he entered the saloon, her eyes shooting daggers that bore into his back.
Then, as he disappeared into the hustle and bustle of the "fine" establishment, she turned again, and continued down the road, her teeth clenched so hard it nearly gave her a headache.

However, her wish for the cool evening air to soothe her temper was soon granted. Half an hour later, all the aggression had seeped out of her, and she was once again her usual calm and composed self.
Maybe she had been unfair in her little outburst. After all, the sheriff had come to her to entrust her with leading a peace party. That gesture alone had meant alot to her. Not only because he was the sheriff, but because... Well. Let's just say that wasn't the only reason.
And it wasn't really his fault that she and Ellie hadn't been successful, now was it? He'd entrusted them to do something because he simply couldn't do everything himself, and they had failed. Which was probably why Calista was so upset with him in the first place. He'd given her a chance to prove herself, and she had failed.
That hurt her pride.
And thanks to that, she had now gotten herself into quite a predicament. Billy was probably the biggest reason why she could make her home safely in Tumbleweed Valley, without worrying too much about being arrested. And hung.
And now she had pissed him off. That was bad.
Granted, she could always find another hideout in another city, but that didn't change the fact that he could easily put the law on her trail. Or the bounty hunters. Or even come after her himself, for that matter. There was after all a nice reward waiting for whoever caught her.
There was no doubt about it. She needed to get back on his good side.
But how?

Still pondering the dilemma a few days later, she headed towards the saloon, and just as she stepped into the smoke-filled room, she thought of something. Glancing over at the bar she saw the sheriff and the doctor together with a third man. A rich man, judging by not only his clothes, but his manners as well. Interesting. That would call for some further, careful investigation. Later. First things first.

Continuing down to the other end of the bar, Calista waited for Aspen to glance over at her. When she did, Calista motioned for her to come over.
"Here," she said, handing Aspen a couple of coins. "Give the sheriff another drink. On me."
It was a simple gesture, but one the sheriff would hopefully understand.
She looked over at the three men, and not wanting the doctor and the stranger to know something was up between her and the sheriff, she added:
"But be discreet about it."

With that, she then turned and headed towards a table in the back, as usual. She trusted Aspen to only let the sheriff know where the drink came from. Aspen was one of their own, she shared their mentality, and knew when to take things seriously. Unlike Lolita. The girl was one of them as well, but far too ditzy and careless to be trusted with something like this.

After the had finally been successful in their search for Natives, Katherine and Jonathan returned to Tumbleweed Valley.
When they reached the town, it was already dark and Jonathan followed Katherin to her house to make sure she arrived safely.

"Well, then, I whish you a good night," he said with a smile, "greet your daughter from me."
With these words he turned and rode off to the forge.

During the next day he was mainly occupied with cleaning his new home and evetually repairing some things. Some of the townspeople had come and talked to him a little so he knew almost everybody by that time.

Just when he was finished with the actual forge, his first costumers arrived.
Two boys, not from this town, brought a carriage that obviously belonged to a wealthy man. They told him to repair its damages and then left again.
"Interesting ...," Jonathan thought when he examined the carriage.

By the evening he was done with his work and walked over to the Saloon. He had done that on every previous evening so far, just to have a little routine, but this time he was sure to also find his yet unknown costumer there.

He entered the room and saw the Sheriff, the Doctor and another man sitting at the bar. "That must be him ..."

With a nod and a "Good evening, gentlemen!" she sat down at one of the remaining barstools and ordered a whisky.

Aspen spoke to him with her back turned as she prepared his drink. "Slow, unsteady. We've had so many problems going around no one's really had time for a good drink. Hopefully this poker tournament will draw in some business..." She slid the cold drink to him in a rose-etched, slightly scratched, glass. "But I've been meaning to see you. I haven't been sleeping quite right, well, not at all really. And I was wondering if you had anything that could knock me out?"

Dr Josh nodded only half listening as he scanned the people gathering. When she mentioned her sleeping problems the smallest crinkle appeared above his nose. Whilst he didn’t mind those he owed a favour or two picking his brains. He still was reluctant to give out advice when his time wasn’t been paid for. “Call in the surgery some time and I’ll take a look at you.” He grumbled. “Or speak to Jeanne she has a supply of the basics.”

Now he knew he wasn’t being very charitable and was relieved when she was called away to serve another customer. He liked the girl. It was just better for business that way. He took a long gulp of his drink enjoying the cool maltiness sliding down his throat.

"So, Doc, How's business lately? I noticed you've been having more and more supplies coming in every week. Guess Tumbleweed has some clumsy people inhabiting it." The Sheriff smirked.

Dr Josh gritted his teeth. The Sheriff always made him a little uncomfortable. What he was doing wasn’t exactly illegal just not very above board. A few supplies that came from alternative channels, every Doctor did it. Or the ones that cared about profit. Nothing that could harm anyone and he only dipped in occasionally.

There was also always the nagging feeling that he couldn’t risk letting anything slip around him. The Sheriff putting two and two together from something he said would ruin him. “Just the usual. It always pays to be prepared as I never know what will come falling in through my door.” He said cagely.

He hadn’t failed to notice the rich business man accompanying the Sheriff. So maintained his politeness at least until he’d weighed things up and seen which side of the coin the man fell on.

Aspen noticed out of the corner of her eye, Calista coming in. She could tell she was fumed, probably by her failed trip that had cost the whole gang their territory. She was slightly angry at her, but she would keep her mouth shut. After staying in this town so long, you learn when to speak and not to.

She was also mad that Billy had interupted her "conversation" with the Doctor. It was meaning to be a private affair, but in came Billy, bouncing over to the bar with Fargo. Probably to hit on her again.

Dr. Josh seemed a bit, hesitant with his reply. “Call in the surgery some time and I’ll take a look at you.” He grumbled back at her. “Or speak to Jeanne she has a supply of the basics.” This slightly insulted her and under her breath muttered "I'll be sure to do that." She couldn't blame his attitude though, he'd been out in the sun all day, and when he returned he already had new patients.

Calista was acting quite odd. In a way, her sneakiness was comical. Calista motioned for her to come over. "Here," she said, handing Aspen a couple of coins. "Give the sheriff another drink. On me." It was not unconventional that she was acting bizarre, but something still puzzled Aspen about her behavior. "But be discreet about it."

Aspen tried not to laugh, she could tell that she was serious. Swiping the cold coins off the counter into the palm of her hand she answered, "I'll do my best," turning back to the otherside to prepare more drinks.

There were six beers lined up on the counter now, like school children, single-file. They were pretty much free to anyone who wanted them, so Aspen abandoned them on the counter after setting them down. Now, she had some business to attend to with the Sheriff. His glass was nearing empty. Maybe now would be a good time to use Calista's bribe. She walked to the three men casually: Fargo, Who looked drunk after only one drink, Billy, Happy-Go-Lucky as usual, and Doctor Josh, who seemed particulary uneasy this afternoon. The struted over to them. "Here, let me get you boys a refill, on the house." Scooping up their glasses, she refilled them all quickly, thinking of what her next move would be. First she handed Josh his malt, then Fargo his hard liqour. She leaned in and kissed him on his unshaven cheek. She thought this would preoccupy him for a second. As she recoiled, she shot him a wink. Then she set down Billy's with a clank. She leaned into his ear and whispered so only he could here, "Free Drink, Love Calista."

(( Okay, this should be my last post for a week. :) So, if anyone else wants drinks, they can just roleplay me getting them. ))

“Just the usual. It always pays to be prepared as I never know what will come falling in through my door.”

Billy Chuckled at the Doctor's response. He really doubted he'd ever catch the good doctor doing wrong, but it was still fun to poke and prod. McDoultry came through the door with a nod and a "Good evening, gentlemen!". Billy gave a nod and focused his attention back at him. Aspen set a drink down infront of Fargo giving the man a kiss on the cheek and sending him into a slight fit of lust, as the man's eyes bulged slightly and his pink face turned red. Then She set Billy's drink down and leaned in as well. "Free Drink, Love Calista."

Billy leaned back and looked at Aspen as she smirked slightly before turning her attention to McDoultry, who'd asked for a whiskey. He looked at the drink, then searched Calista's usual corner. He nodded toward the seemly dark corner as Fargo made another pass at at the giggling Lolita. Billy Needed to talk to Calista anyhow about Mr. Fargo. If his pockets went as deep as he thought, then he'd not want to draw attention to Calista now. He'd wait patiently for her to leave, then follow her after a few minutes. He wouldn't need to worry about Fargo... he seemed drunk and in, uh, good hands...

For the Time being however, he turned to McDoultry, the drifter who'd come in just a short time ago. Already he'd opened a small business for himself and seemed to be doing well... Billy smiled and nodded to Aspen when she set his drink down. "This one's on me. So, McDoultry, you've seemed to settle into life here in Tumbleweed. I may have to bring my horse by and see what you can do." Billy took a swig of his drink and waited for his reply.

As he waited for his drink, Jonathan wondered if he could interrupt the talk of the three other men, but then decided that this could wait.

The bargirl, Aspen, was just placing a glass of Whiskey in front of him, when the sherrif said "This one's on me. So, McDoultry, you've seemed to settle into life here in Tumbleweed. I may have to bring my horse by and see what you can do."

Jonathan too a sip from his drink and than looked at the other man. "Yes, do that, Starks. You can bring your "friend" here with you as well, his boys brought me his broken carriage and I have repaired it already."

The obviously drunken foreigner stared at him, as if to say something, but then he just ordered another drink.

From her corner, Calista was watching the sheriff talk to the two newcomers in town; the wealthy-looking man ('Fargo' she had heard someone call him), and that new blacksmith, McDoultry. She wasn't at all happy about the presence of these two, being the suspicious young lady that she was, and for good reason. Every new face made her tense, as she didn't know if they were bounty hunters or detectives. And seeing the sheriff talk to both of them now, after she had angered him like that... It all just didn't sit well with her. It bothered her, and made her feel anxious, to say the least.
But the nod sheriff Starks had sent her way had been somewhat reassuring. He'd accepted the drink, which possibly meant he had also accepted her poor excuse for an apology.

Though she still felt like the trap might be about to close on her, and so after only half an hour in the saloon she left again, but not before making a quick stop at the bar and buying a bottle of whiskey to take with her. Things like that always had a tendency to come in handy. Besides, she still felt like drinking. She just didn't feel like drinking here.

Emerging from the saloon, she stopped just outside the doors for a few seconds, just to make sure McDoultry and Fargo hadn't been watching her. Then she looked up and down the street out of pure habit, to see who else was out, and then started heading home.

I realize this challenge is supposed to last another 12 hours or so, but I’m sure if everyone looks at the scores (http://forums.sims2community.com/arcade.php?do=scores&set=2&name=flashpoker) for the Flash Poker we could all agree that the Bad are the winners of this round.

I do want to state openly that I suspect foul play here. I’m saddened that a glitch in the game may have been used to achieve high scores. I take it upon myself for choosing a venue that allowed it's self to be exploited. I apologize to everyone as I did not realize that at the time I chose it.

I’ve spent the last few days thinking about it, real poker tournaments of the past have been rigged and cheating at the game ran rampant. So I am going to set aside my own sense of fairness and declare The Bad as the winners of this challenge. I will however, be examining and eliminating future challenges that I feel unsatisfied with in this regard. I fear that further discussion of the matter on the open forums would only cause harm, so I ask for your cooperation in not discussing this any further. Please feel free to PM me or a moderator if are unhappy with my decision. But I can tell you now, that it will stand.

Anyhow, congratulations Bad Gang, you have 52 hours from this post to PM me your choice for which building you’d like added to your territory. I will post the next round shortly after I receive that PM.

Feel free to wrap up the Poker Tournament via RP.

So I will henceforth desist from my probings into any foul goings-on! However, I'm sure Jack is within his rights to ponder them...))

Running one slender finger along the side of the deck, Jack noticed something that made him frown. Something that he was fairly confident someone else knew about, and was utilizing to full effect. Keeping quiet about his find, he shuffled the deck with an air on nonchelence, watching as the cards were rearranged... watching those edges carefully. Slight different shapes.. Only slight, but nonetheless.. Well who'd have thought the Bad played dirty, huh? He glared at each of those who had bought into the tournament, dealing the cards out and keeping his conscious attention focused on his weapon, should he need to use it. As each player examined their hand, Jack caught the eye of the person opposite him. Was it..? He wasn't sure. Skilled though he was at reading people, he wasn't prepared to risk getting the wrong person. His narrowed eyes flicked over to an overly-merry Fargo, unaware of any suspicious activity. Jack was a fan of foul-play himself, but he wasn't prepared to lose any more of his money when he was almost sure there was something going on here. Placing his hand face-down, he stood from the table and took his money, a hand going to his pistol.
"I'm buying out." he glared at them all, as though daring at least one of them to challenge him, or maybe an attempt to make them realise what was going on here.
Downing the rest of his whiskey, he placed the empty glass back over on the bar and looked around for those saloon girls.. he could do with something to lighten his spirits, and it didn't look like he'd be getting much fun until Fargo and his fortunes made their way over to the inn.

Calista hadn't gotten far from the saloon when she heard footsteps behind her, and then a familiar voice:
"Hi, Calista. Here’s your hat, what’s your hurry?"
Poppy.
Calista gave the older woman a glance as she started walking next to Calista, but didn't say anything, mainly because Poppy's greeting confused her. 'Here's your hat?'. What in god's name was she talking about?
But as expected, Poppy set off into one of her infamous rants before Calista even got a chance to greet her back.
"We haven’t socialized much... both so busy, I guess...", Poppy started. "But I’ve been wanting to tell you that your face has always looked very familiar to me. Finally she stopped talking, probably having run out of air. And before she set off into another tirade, Calista gave her a gentle smile, and spoke:
"I'm afraid other peace parties decided to head in the same direction as me and Ellie, and beat us to it. Now, I don't mean to be rude, but you'll have to excuse me. I really should be heading home."

And with that she gave a quick nod goodbye, and headed for the livery.

I hope my polite conversation doesn't bother you, Calista. Some people have called it ranting and tirading, but those are uneducated bumpkins whom we wouldn't likely run into. It's nice that the native trouble has been settled, isn't it? Even though you and Ellie were beaten to all the venues, I'm sure you'll be beaten again many times before you're hung. I mean dead. Well, here we are at the Mill. I've got some telegraphing to do...like to keep up with all the news. I find robberies particularly interesting. Bye now...you take care." And with that Poppy entered her house and closed the door behind her.

Billy watched as Calista left and he waited for his opprotunity to leave. He'd just picked his drink up off the bar and finished downing the last bit of brandy in the glass when he spotted Poppy leaving as well. Oh no, he thought. Poppy had been snooping around lately and he wasn't real pleased with having found that out. He didn't like anyone to snoop too much, especially around his personal business. He eased off the stool as the drunken Fargo didn't only paid attention to Aspen. He nodded at McDoultry and the good doctor before walking out casually.

He turned right headed away from Calista and Poppy and around the Saloon. Hopefully people would think he was headed home. He walked quietly when old man Johnson (Npc XD) stopped him. "Doing your patrol on foot tonight?" Billy smiled, "Yes sir, Dont' want to start expanding from all those sweets i like." He placed his hand on his stomach, patting it lightly. "I hear ya there, Martha keeps baking her pies and forcing me to eat them, maybe i should start walking more often!" Johnson responded. Billy tipped his hat and bid him a good night as he made his way up towards Wagon Wheel Road. He reached the School House when he heard Calista and Poppy speaking. His heart sunk as his fears were realized. Poppy was talking about Robberies and such. He thought hard of what he'd tell her if she asked him about it while waiting for her to retreat to her house. It wasn't as if Poppy herself ran such a clean business.

A few minutes later, the voices had gone in different directions and Billy came out of the shadows. "Ms. Calista." He tipped his hat and walked up to her. "I'm just doing my nightly rounds," He fell into step beside her and smiled. "I was hoping to talk to you about a few things, if that's okay." They reached her porch and he scratched his forhead. "Mind if we go in for a few?" He didn't want anyone around, convienantly listening to what he was going to tell her.

Obviously unable to take a hint, Poppy followed Calista like a lost puppy.
"Since we're both heading home, I'll just join you."

'Oh, goodie', Calista thought with sarcasm.
But she hid it well, not allowing it to show in her eyes, nor let the soft smile fade. The Poppy Mill wasn't that far away. If she was lucky, Poppy wouldn't stop once outside, to continue talking, but instead bid Calista good night. Though she did feel another one of Poppy's expositions coming on. And sure enough, within moments Poppy was chattering in her ear once again:

"I'm sure you mean it when you say you don't mean to be rude. I hope my polite conversation doesn't bother you, Calista. Some people have called it ranting and tirading, but those are uneducated bumpkins whom we wouldn't likely run into."

If that was indeed the case, Calista thought, the town was filled with these "uneducated bumpkins". She knew she wasn't the only one whose patience was wearing thin when around Poppy. And unlike Poppy, every single one of those "uneducated bumpkins" could manage to hold a normal conversation without sounding as if they had just escaped from the funny farm.

Again Calista glanced over att Poppy, suddenly feeling somewhat sorry for her. Constantly being around those opium vapors... It was bound to screw with her conception, she was bound to be delusional.
Poppy, however, didn't seem to notice the concerned glance, as she was too busy still talking:

"It's nice that the native trouble has been settled, isn't it? Even though you and Ellie were beaten to all the venues, I'm sure you'll be beaten again many times before you're hung. I mean dead. Well, here we are at the Mill. I've got some telegraphing to do... like to keep up with all the news. I find robberies particularly interesting. Bye now... you take care."

And again before Calista had a chance to say anything, Poppy cut her off, this time by turning and heading into her house, leaving Calista standing in the street, rolling her eyes. Oh Lordie. Poppy sure wasn't very subtle, was she?

"Ms. Calista?"

A sudden deep, male voice startled her, and she spun around, coming face to face with Billy. Where'd he come from? She hadn't heard him coming up behind her.
'What now?', she thought. Was he going to push her about the money again? Maybe she should just pay him, and be rid of the problem. Until next time.
Or did he come to offer a truce? It had after all been her intention when buying him that drink.

"I'm just doing my nightly rounds", he said, as they started walking side by side.
Then he continued with a smile:
"I was hoping to talk to you about a few things, if that's okay."

Calista watched him closely out of the the corner of her eye. Was the smile for real, or just a way to mask another "hint". No, it seemed honest enough.
As they reached her porch he stopped, and scratched his forehead, almost looking diffident, as if he was unsure of how to continue.
"Mind if we go in for a few?" he asked.

Calista blinked. Go inside? With him? Oh dear god. Her home was not nearly presentable, with clothes laying about here and there, a case of explosives in one of the corners, and... lord knew what else.
Still, she realized it was a private matter he wanted to discuss, so how could she refuse.
She opened her mouth, attempting to speak, but found her throat was suddenly dry as a desert. Swallowing a bit, she tried again:

"Of course, sheriff."

She turned to unlock the door, and while pushing it open mumbled something about excusing the mess.

Dr Josh drained his drink in one big slurp as Aspen put another glass in front of him. He nodded thanks to her, house drinks were always welcome. Although he couldn’t help but wonder at there motive. Perhaps Aspen just wanted them a little more care-free before the match went on. The rich man seemed quite taken by her, even possessing the indignity to allow a little drool to wet his lips, like a big fat bulldog.

A smug reply formed on his lips ready for the Sheriff but before he could utter a word the Sheriff had turned his attention to the new guy in town. John or something he’s heard his name was. Well the guy fixed carriages, a useful tool for the town but he paid the Sheriff too much respect that never boded well. Well he’d learn in time.

The only one who seemed to be getting drunk enough to get his pockets turned out was the rich man. Who looked almost ready to topple from his chair. Not a wise move in a town like this, a stranger could find himself turned over in a blink of an eye robbed of all possessions and a few shots of lead punctuating their limbs. No doubt ending up dumped outside his door a few coins clasped in his hand.

He turned from the bar to see if anyone else had arrived yet and saw the distinguished figure of Calista heading out the door. Despite the fading light her frame was one he’d recognise anywhere. Curiosity evident in his raised eyebrows he watched as the Sheriff downed is brandy and headed out after her. Just what had she been doing to grant such attention from the sheriff?

His thoughts returned to the match. Slight of hand had been everywhere, it seemed there were multiple packs hidden up sleeves and even the women had hidden cards appearing from within their billowing garments. He had sighed, slipping his final ace out of his own sleeve but still it was not enough as another hand cleared his right off the table. If he’d continued he’d stand to loose a far bit so he had made excuses from the table. He was greedy but he still had the intelligence to realise that when a game was rigged the best bet was to get out with what you had left and leave them to it. Your pride intact and clothes firmly on your back.

With a slight swagger he left the saloon, tipping his hat to Aspen to thank her for the fine ale that eased his limbs into their fuddled steps. The night air warm against his face he headed down the road. He fancied a little pie to line his stomach before he headed back to the surgery.

"Just excuse the mess." Calista mummered quietly, opening the door. Billy followed her in and waited for her. He took a look around, and learned that it would probably be best if he just looked at her, she had a couple of wooden boxes in the corner and more guns than even he owned. She looked curious as to his thoughts and he smiled.

"I think Fargo's got deeper pockets than we realize. I'm sure you've noticed him. Well, I think he might be a good venture for the both of us. I think if we follow him out of town and wait before he hits the next town..." He kinda shrugged, after all, robbing people was her thing, not his. "And I heard Poppy talking to you, about Robberies, does she know anything?" he realized he still had his hat on, and took it off, his hair falling in his face. "I wouldn't worry about her. If she gets to sniffing too hard though, I'll talk to her." Billy was nervously playing with his hat now as his thoughts had trailed off. He had a strong urge to walk up and just kiss her, but he knew that he'd probably get slapped, if not shot.

(((ooc: foolin - I love that last sentence. It made me laugh. ;) )))

Upon entering her small living quarters, Calista looked around quickly to make sure nothing too embarrassing was laying about. Though the lack of light in there made it an impossible task, and as Billy followed her inside, she lit a small oil lamp nearby, and then the larger one by her bed. She was simply choosing between two evils; either leave the lights off and risk tripping on something, falling flat on her face in her own home, right infront of Billy... OR allowing him the chance to see the mess and everything in it.

Watching him closely as he glanced around, she was relieved to see that he quickly returned his gaze to her. Good. Their silent agreement was still on; he wouldn't ask and she wouldn't tell.

"I think Fargo's got deeper pockets than we realize", Billy started, getting to the point almost immediately, although doing so with a slight smile. "I'm sure you've noticed him. Well, I think he might be a good venture for the both of us. I think if we follow him out of town and wait before he hits the next town..."

His voice trailed off, and he gave a small shrug. Calista didn't need to hear the rest. She was already thinking the same thing as him, and she nodded slowly. Two seconds after learning about Fargo and his wealth, she was already planning a way to seperate the two.

Though she was interrupted by Billy's voice, as he continued;
"And I heard Poppy talking to you, about robberies, does she know anything?"

Calista began shaking her head, as if to say she wasn't really sure if Poppy knew something or not. But just then Billy took off his hat, a few locks of golden hair falling in his face, and Calista completely forgot what she was going to say. For some reason, his presence suddenly seemed more... real. Taking off his hat, it was a natural and polite thing to do, but it made the whole situation seem more intimate than if he'd kept his hat on. It was just a stupid hat, and it made no sense, but... She could suddenly feel that there was chemistry between them. It had been there for a long time, but she had kept dismissing it, telling herself she was only attracted to him because he was a man that she really shouldn't be attracted to. That there being something between them would be simply impossible.
But as she looked at him now, seeing him shift uncomfortably and fidgeting with his hat... It seemed she wasn't the only one feeling the chemistry.

For a few moments she simply stared at him, at his face, his features. Then her gaze trailed downwards to his broad shoulders and his arms, and hands... But as she did, something just behind him caught her eyes, and she snapped back to reality, a look of horror darting across her face. Behind him, almost next to him, on the table, was a bloody rag she'd used to clean the gun shot wound on her arm. If he saw that... He might not ask her about it, he might not even comment on it, but questions would be sure to arise in his mind. And he wasn't stupid. He'd know where to start digging, and if all else failed, he had money. He knew how the game was played, and he had enough pull in town to unlock bought lips.
Without thinking she took a quick step forward, reaching behind him and sweeping the rag off the table, so that it landed under it instead, where Billy wouldn't see it.

With that done, it suddenly dawned on her that her action had put her face to face with him. Her heart jumped when she realized how close he was, and she started stammering.

"I... I-I just... There was a spider..."

Now wasn't that just a brilliant excuse? A spider? Not only was she stuttering like an idiot, she was also lying like one.

Billy was alarmed when Calista shot forward and reached past him, Something about a spider. All he knew was that when she was done, her face was just a few inches from his. His breath caught as he stared into her bright blue eyes as the lights reflected softly on her face and he just stared for what seemed like minutes, he could feel his head getting a bit light and possibly turning a few shades of red. His poor hat's brim was probably a bit bent out of shape now and he decided maybe being shot wouldn't be too bad, it would definetely be worth it. Before he could stop himself he was kissing her. He was lost for a minute in her smell and soft lips before he pulled back. He blinked to see how she how she was going to react... please don't shot me...

As the Poker Tournament was coming to an end, Mr. Fargo’s rear end was firmly planted on his barstool. Lolita was happily perched upon his lap. In seemingly no time at all Mr. Fargo was like putty in the palm of her hands. Blinded by lust, he was none the wiser of course. Mr. Fargo was talking about his good friend and business buddy Mr. Banks. Sheriff Billy and Dr. Josh had long ago tired of the man’s blabbering and had gone about their own business for the night. Aspen had been keeping a close eye on the man. As much as she’d like to allow Lolita to take him up stairs so his pockets would be free to rummage through, she knew it was too soon.

“I think it’s ‘bout time we get you settled in at the Inn there big boy.” Aspen said forcing a flirt in her voice. She asked two men in the saloon to help support Fargo as he stumbled across Main Street to the Inn. As they entered the Inn and rang the desk bell to summon Roxy, Fargo kept talking. “You know, it’s a shame I won’t be there to meet him after all.” Fargo whined. “Oh?” Aspen asked, pretending to be concerned as she filled out the paper work Roxy had pushed at her. “Were you going to meet him somewhere?”

“Yeah, he’s coming in on one of them fancy new engines.” As Fargo rambled on and on, Aspen listened closely. There was a train coming in to a neighboring town tomorrow, assuredly with plenty of wealthy patrons on it. That train was a gold mine just waiting to be emptied. After getting Mr. Fargo settled in, Aspen quickly took her leave, no doubt in a hurry to find the Sheriff. As she did, Jack immerged from the shadowy corner, he had heard everything.

(This competition is for The Bad and The Ugly only. Sorry Good guys, you sit this challenge out. Think of it as free roleplay time, do what you like!)

For this competition The Bad and The Ugly are going train raiding. You can roleplay forming a raiding group, or you can pick your best man to go solo. I give you complete freedom on the RP aspect of it. Here is the train you’ll be raiding.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/Mila_Muromachi/SIMS2/TumbleweedValley/Train.jpg

Each gang chooses four places to board and raid. The coach cars have been numbered for easier play. Unlike previous rounds, this is not first come first serve. If both gangs choose the same location, then they split that money 50/50. Gang leaders, you have five days from the time of this post to PM me the raiding choices for your gang.

So put on your face mask and saddle up! It’s time to go get yourselves some riches!

Oh, and a clue to help ya out… Have fun with it.

There are three separate trains all leaving Central Station today. Each one has earned a nick name by the men who take care of them. The “Virtuous Engine #1”, as she’s been labeled, will be traveling north for five days, making six stops along the way. Her final destination is in New York. The “Poor Coal Car #2”, as she’s been labeled, will be traveling south for four days making nine stops along the way. Her final destination is in Georgia. The final train, the “Central Caboose #3”, will be traveling west for seven days making eight stops along the way. Her final destination is in California. Assuming all three trains travel at the same speed, and every stop made takes exactly one hour. Which train will reach its destination first, and more importantly, which train carries the richest passengers?

Having done nothing but ramble and stutter when she'd tried to make excuses for her sudden movement, Calista finally managed to shut her mouth. Straightening her back she forced herself to look up at Billy. She would not come across as a child having been caught doing something naughty.
But as their eyes met, her breath caught in her throat, and her heart started pounding so loud she thought he'd hear it for sure. But he didn't say anything. He didn't even move. For a long time they just stood there, staring at eachother.
But then suddenly he did move, and it was a move that took Calista by complete surprise. Even though she had seen it coming in his eyes, she'd never thought he'd actually do it. But he did. He kissed her.
At first she stiffened, completely stunned by his boldness. But only moments later she surrendered, and sank into his kiss. Her head was screaming for her to protest, mostly because she probably should, but her body had already stopped listening.
But before she was able to fully respond, Billy pulled back, slowly breaking the kiss and then taking a step back, looking at her with... not dread, but rather... unease...? It was as if he was waiting for her to say something, but Calista found herself at a complete lack of words. For once in her life, she was tounge-tied.
But she had to somehow let him know that even though it had been a bold move on his part, it had been a welcome one. Giving up on trying to find the right words, she let her actions speak instead. Slipping close to him once again, she gave his cheek a soft caress, gingerly running her fingertips over his stubble and smiling faintly. She didn't dare to kiss him, in fear of giving in completely. She was thankful that he had broken it off to begin with, because she wasn't sure she would've been able to.

"You should go."

She spoke soft and low, her hand running over his chest, his buttoned shirt, before gently pushing herself away from him. Willing herself to break away from the intimacy, she reached for the door, and opened it.

"Thank you for walking me to my door," she said, unable to do anything but simply glance up at him for a moment. "I'll be sure to keep in mind what you've just told me."

And after bidding eachother a good night, Billy finally left. Having just managed to close the door behind him, Calista dropped onto her bed. Her knees were too weak to hold her up.

As Calista and Billy seemed to be stopping in the middle of their little flirtation, Poppy eased away from Barett's window. "One thing you can say for sex, it sure goes a long way in advancing our adventures."

She returned home and gathered her Asian goons together. She told them precisely what to expect that night and the next day and how she wished them to respond. When they had returned to their posts, Poppy took an engraved leather case from her desk, removed two guns from their velvet seats, and ceremoniously began to clean them.

Inside the dusky inn lurked the highwayman, flamboyantly accessorising with a large red plume in his hat and a brass pistol. He was working a night shift tonight. Voices, amplified with alcohol, drifted across the room. He'd followed the one they called Fargo down here; word on the street implied he was loaded with cash and was not afraid to let it be known. The idiot, but Jack wasn't complaining - it made his job easier. And soon to come was the cherry on the gift-wrapped cake..

The man had been rambling about a certain Mr. Banks; a fellow businessman who likely was even more loaded than Fargo himself. Jack had been mildly interested in the guy, but that was all meaningless banter. He was here to relieve Fargo of a bit of cash, not listen to the old man reminisce of times passed with his buddy. The desk bell rang, summoning Roxy. All according to plan.. Jack confirmed. Roxy had been informed of Fargo's arrival a few hours ago; she had been instructed by Jack to offer the man Room no. 4, a suite on the second floor with a window conveniently placed above the stable roof. The robber grinned slyly as Roxy busied herself with some inconspicuous administration. Of course, the co-owner didn't know much about Jack's plan. He'd told her to move Fargo to that room, as the luxury room usually reserved for VIPs had a bedbug infestation, and the wealthy man wouldn't take kindly to waking up covered in bites.

He concentrated on running through the plan again, only half listening to the conversation between Aspen and Fargo. Just then, a sentence caught his full attention - "He's coming in on one of them fancy new engines." Simultaneously readjusting his hat and his focus, he silently crept closer to hear the conversation more clearly. A train coming into town - no, into the next town along. Plenty of wealthy patrons. Why hadn't Jack heard about this earlier, with all his contacts? His lips curled into a grin once again; the infamous Jack Scarlet was about to strike again...

He silently waited until Fargo was settled and Aspen had left. He would deal with Fargo later, after the man was in a deep sleep, which hopefully wouldn't take long judging by his intoxicated state. For now, he had people to contact, arrangements to make. He needed a plan, and there was little time. He also needed.. Ah, he also would need a raiding gang. He wasn't naive enough to attempt a job this size solo, but who could he count on? Banley.. No, he was out of town right now, something about a five-figure debt. Carr.. In jail for murder. Young.. Shot and killed in a shootout. That egotistic bastard thought he was the best gunslinger in the West, too.

Jack soon realised that his 'top five' had been incapacitated, killed, arrested or settled down for an honest life. He needed to do this job.. needed it.. But he couldn't risk his very life, no worse, his reputation, by doing it alone. An absurd image wandered into the outlaws mind.. Dr. Josh waving a firearm around, Aberle trailing behind him and struggling to control a galloping stallion.. Loretta complaining about the wind, the dust, the train.. And Roxy. Should he involve Roxy with this? She had little more experience with robbery than the rest of them. Jack sighed heavily, sweeping a few strands of black hair off his face. To bring them along, it'd put all their lives at risk. If they were caught, they'd be branded outlaws. If they were lucky enough to evade capture, still they weren't skilled enough to board a train and use a gun. On the other hand, they were part of his gang.. part of the Ugly.

Brow furrowed from the complexity of the situation, he came up with a makeshift plan. It wasn't one of his usual genius plans, but for now it'd have to do. Clearing his throat to catch Roxy's attention, he crossed the room to her and leant close, whispering something into her ear. She nodded in acknowledgement of the key phrase. Moving quickly from the Inn, his black riding coat billowing out behind him, he swung onto his mount and rode south - to the Secret Hideout.

((I hope we're allowed to use the SH's for RPing. Ugly members, Jack just whispered a key-word into Roxy's ear which means alert the others to meet in the SH :p You can if you want, or ignore it and Jack can have a lonely meeting))

Thought it may be time for a little house cleaning. Here's hoping we can get a few new drifters into Tumbleweed Valley.

The following people have not posted in more than two weeks. It was said in the initial post that if you're inactive for two weeks without letting anyone know as to why, then you are at risk of being terminated if a drifter comes a long and wants be part of a gang. If anyone knows a name on this list that is listed with error, please let me know.

The Good:
Tom Delgado – Julieth

The Ugly:
Pepper Spice – LadyAshe

So given the above two listed inactive characters, and The Bad gang’s recent loss. There is one available slot on each gang. So if anyone is lurking, and is curious about joining, feel free to PM me with questions.

After the Sheriff had left the Saloon, Jonathan emptied his glass and turned to Fargo.
"Your carriage is done, you should come to the forge with me to pick it up."
The other man was obviously drunk, and didn't pay any attention to Jonathan.

He cursed silently and decided to go and search for Fargo's boys, they would have to pay him then.
As he stood up to leave the Saloon, he saw one of the bargirls approach Fargo, obviously eager to empty his pockets.

Disgusted, Jonathan stepped out of the Saloon. The boys were lurking not far away from it and so he went over to them and made them come with him.

Some time later, after he had finally gotten his money, he decided to visit Katherine again. Jonathan hadn't spoken to her for a while, but she and her girl were always nice company.

The man walked over to Katherine's house and knocked at the door.
After a few seconds he could hear small steps behind it, and little Emily opened.

Dr Josh nodded just once he understood completely. Jack was on a ego trip again. Some grand scheme where he would lead the Uglies to victory. Still he was curious to see what was in it for him. Jack’s little schemes when they worked out could be quite profitable. Alternatively he’d need a hefty bribe for the law. It was a gamble. Still it was a chance to catch up with Aberle. The boy hadn’t been in to see him, despite complaining of those headaches at the hunting trip. Perhaps he was feeling a little better.

He continued eating his meal pushing slices of thick pork sausage into his mouth and chewing them lazily. Jack could wait a while. He was still ravished never having got that pie last night. Jeanne had summoned him when some drunken lout from the saloon had turned up at the surgery complaining he couldn’t see straight, that the world was appearing in double. Dr Josh had administered him a little sack filled with salt and hay, a natural folk remedy he said. Instructing him to lay it over his eyes whilst he slept he’d be right as rain in the morning. Of course this remedy cost the man 5 large gold coins.

He withdrew a pistol from his cabinet and carefully slid it into his belt holster. Then to his usual attire he added a sleek silver scalpel as sharp as a fisherwives tongue. If there was any trouble he’d be prepared.

He slipped out of the house, quietly pulling the door closed on its hinges so not to disturb Jeanne and headed to the Safe House.

"Mommy" called Emily-Rose " Mr. McDoultry is here". "Well then let him in dear" said Katherine, walking through the house to the front door. The little girl did so and Katherine smiled at her guest

"Good afternoon Jonathan, how has life in town been for you so far"? she asked, reaching over to close the door, since Emily-Rose had skipped off to play with her dolls and not done it.

Billy looked at Calista, wanting to kiss her again, but he refrained, He didn't want to advance if he wasn't wanted, and she did deserve to be treated like a lady not like Lolita the saloon girl, not his friend Aspen, who he almost treated like one of the guys. He watched as she took a step back forward towards him. She reached up and touched his cheek softly and he closed his eyes leaning into it slightly, before opening his eyes again. He thought she was going to kiss him, but she spoke softly instead, her lips slightly curved. "You should go." Her hand dropped to his chest, and as she ran her hand over it, he sighed deeply and nodded before remembering his hat that he'd dropped on the floor. She stepped back again and reached for the door as he placed the bent and dirty hat on his head.

"Thank you for walking me to my door," she looked at him for a moment. "I'll be sure to keep in mind what you've just told me."

"Good Night." he told her. He smiled and walked out, making sure to keep his hands to himself. God knows he didn't want to. The door shut behind him and he looked at his boots... wait... DAMN! Billy zipped up his fly, wondering how long it had been down. He took his hat off and looked at the brim shaking his head. He walked down towards main when he saw Aspen in the shadows waiting for him. "What happened to your hat?!?" she asked, and he just shook his head. Before he could finish a shot rang out. He looked at Aspen and then towards Poppy Mills where the shot had come from. "Stay here!" He told Aspen, and he pulled his pistol rushing for the large house. It wasnt' long before a scream could be heard. He rushed into the door without knocking and ran into Stella, who was covered in blood. "She's dead!" she screamed. She held a note in her hands, and Billy observed it long enough to realize it was a suicide note. He ran to find Poppy at her desk, slumped over, blood staining the opposite wall, her hair, and her dress.

Dammit...

Aspen decided to focus her attention on the life and times of Sheriff Billy Starks tonight. He seemed to be a pretty exciting person for a pretty boring town. She watched him underhandedly; from giving him his free drink from Calista, to seeing him daringly approch her with her tip off, to walking her home. What a true gentleman. And now, after the romance she had sparked, she saw him in a sudden state of distress. Running to the Poppy Mill in the cool of the night, sweating.

A gun shot blasted through the near ghost-town. Billy was there and suddenly gone. Looking back into her merry, glowing Saloon, she decided she'd chase after him. Cursing herself for wearing heels once again at an inconvienant time, she ran over to the Poppy Mill.

Hearing grieving from inside, and the unmistakable murmur of Starks, she contemplated before she came in. One part of her didn't care what happened to Poppy, or anyone, the other part wanted to join in the mourn. She closed her eyes and rapped her knuckled on the old wooden door before creaking it open. Poppy's dead. Suicide no doubt. What a pitiful way to go. A girl Aspen didn't recognize was crouched on the floor, eyes swollen from tears. Billy had the suicide note in his hands. He seemed more angry than sad. And there was the corpse of Poppy, the warm had not left her body yet, but her eyes were lost. Her vermillion blood seemed to twinkle on her tan skin. It was not the first time Aspen had seem a freshly dead body, and it would certainly not be the last. Turning to Billy, she tried to say something but the words escaped her. Walking over to his side she embraced him from the side, putting her head on his shoulder. It seemed like the best thing to do. Waiting a few moments she finally advised, "Looks like it's going to be a long night for you."

[[ Foolin: Thanks! I'm glad to be back too ^^ And don't worry about it, I was waiting for a moment for me to jump in and there it was ]]

Calista still sat on her bed when she heard a gun go off nearby. It almost sounded like it came from the Poppy Mill.
'Great', she thought, breaking away from the vertiginous thoughts swirling in her head. 'What the hell is Poppy up to now?'

Then she suddenly froze, realizing Billy - for he was now Billy; not sheriff Starks - was out there. And Poppy had seemed anything but mentally stable when she'd run into Calista twenty minutes earlier. In fact, she had insinuated getting Calista into alot of trouble, and Billy... Billy had told Calista he'd talk to Poppy, if she was indeed starting to become a threat...

Not finishing her train of thought, Calista flew from her bed, grabbing a nearby gun and some bullets in the process, and then she was out the door. She didn't fear for Poppy's life, she feared for Billy's. He was sensible enough to keep his cool, but with the way Poppy had been acting lately, there was no telling what she could do.

As she neared the Poppy Mill, she slowed down, loading the gun as she snuck closer. She saw the form of a woman carefully entering the Poppy Mill through the main door, and as the light from a nearby lamp swept across her face, Calista realized that it was Aspen.
What on earth was going on...?

Cautiously Calista followed, reaching out and pushing the door wide open. Seeing no one, but hearing muffled sobs, she glided soundlessly through the passage, towards the vague noises and Poppy's office. She heard voices.

"Looks like it's going to be a long night for you."

Aspen's voice. Who was she talking to?
Calista took a few more steps, and the entire scene laid itself out before her eyes. Aspen, with her arm around Billy and her head on his shoulder... Billy with his back turned, and a note in his hands... And Poppy. Or rather, Poppy's lifeless body.

A pang of relief shot through Calista. It wasn't him that had gotten hurt, or killed.
Letting out the air from unknowingly having held her breath, she put the gun away, sliding it down into one of the empty holsters on her hips.
Looking over at Poppy's body, she couldn't feel sad. She just couldn't. Poppy had threatened her, and she'd been a clutz going about it. If anything, her suicide was a relief.
It was probably a cruel thought, but Calista always had and always would look out for number one.

[Alright everyone. Sorry for being unable to do anything. :{ Internet was being a sorry good for nothing and refused to work. But she's finally back up again so I should be on regularly.

It seems I've missed a lot. Poppy killed herself? We’re robbing a train?

I guess Halse will just have to have been stuck in the shop this entire time…]

The moon swung low against the misted skies, and Aberle shoved his gun back into its holster. He was trapped in one of his rare and excruciatingly annoying days where his personality was jerking between his own and Halse's. One minute he wanted to go to the bakery, and the other he wanted to shoot something. One minute he wanted to go see Jack and one minute he would rather go jump in front of a train. He didn't like those moments, but what made this time worse was that there was a secret meeting. He could only hope that nothing would happen over the next few days that might conflict with his current problem.

The boy stumbled out of the store, making sure to lock it just behind him. He couldn't really think straight, and the world around him was nothing more than an inky black mass. He gripped his head and tried to focus away from the pain throbbing there, only to stumble upon a figure in the dark.

“Nngghh…sorry…” he groaned, and his eyes raked upwards only to lock eyes with the doctor. "Oh! Mr. Josh!" Aberle straightened himself up as best as he could and placed a grin on his face. "I'm really sorry about that. I'm on one of my low days and there's this splitting headache that's been eating on my last nerve. Ehh...you wouldn't happen to have any pain relief on you w- oh nevermind. There's no time for that! Come on, let's go," he grabbed the doctor's wrist with enthusiasm and began to throw his body into moving them towards their goal.

Glad to see you two back Pandaness and cherryp3! Yup, Tumbleweed Valley might be small, but it has action going on! Seriously, if anyone needs help figuring out where we are I'm happy to help.

There's a little less than two days before I need to know what parts of the train ya'll are raiding. In that time the Ugly has to have their meeting, and Aspen has to get the word of the opportunity out to the Bad. Fun fun fun!

On a totally separate note, I received a PM from LadyAshe. She will not be returning to the RP. So anyone looking, we have two immediate openings one on the Bad and one on the Ugly. For now I'm leaving the Poppy Mill and the Bakery on the maps. After all, they are owned territory.

Jack sat in a chair at the Ugly secret hideout. He'd chose this place as a headquarters nearly three years ago, his reasoning being that nobody in Tumbleweed would know where this place was unless they had specific directions to get here. From the outside, it looked little more than a dilapidated old shack. Rumours that Jack had started himself said that the building once was a ranch that suffered a terrible fire, and now it was too dangerous to enter. Anyone who stumbled across the place without knowing of it would undoubtedly link the scorched timber and 'Warning' signs to the disaster site. Little did anyone outside The Ugly know that the Warning signs were put there by Jack, the scorched timber actually soot from an open fire.

Before the robber was a sheet of old paper, graphite doodling across it forming a train with nine carriages. He twirled the pencil between his fingers, eyes flicking along the trains carriages. He circled four and leaned back in his chair, before reaching forwards only a few seconds later and screwing the plan into a ball. He looked up from his thoughts and noticed the people sat questioningly before him. Nearly all present, good.

"The reason you're here.. I have a job I'll need help with" he took a breath and went on to explain the conversation he'd overheard between Fargo and Aspen, and why he needed their help. "We're going train-robbing. It's a dangerous sport, very dangerous.. My old robbing gang are all dead, jailed, or married. Nonetheless, I assure you the thrill will make it all worthwile, not to mention the loot." He smiled slightly, glancing out of the dirty window, across the river at the Saloon. "Aspen will, no doubt, have informed The Bad about this opportunity.." he scrawled his train-doodle on a new sheet of paper. "Assuming you all want to help, that gives us five carriages to hold up - one each. But.. I don't want to place you in too much danger, so we'll be holding up four instead." He frowned slightly, counting the people before him. Dr. Josh.. Aberle.. Loretta.. Roxy.. No Pepper.

"Where's Pepper?" he asked, brow creasing slightly. "I haven't seen her around for weeks. Have any of you heard news of her?"

Roxy listened intently as Jack explained his mysterious job, which she liked more and more as he talked about it. This would be the perfect opportunity to get out of the Inn and just do something! She'd been longing to get out of that dusty old place for weeks now, but she knew that if Jack wasn't around to manage things, she'd have to take over. Now she had an excuse, albeit one that she couldn't repeat to her regular customers, but an excuse.

"Where's Pepper? I haven't seen her around for weeks. Have any of you heard news of her?"

"I haven't seen her," Roxy shrugged, leaning back in her chair a bit more. The rest of the group nodded in agreement. Nobody had seen Pepper for almost a month.

"Well, this looks like a pretty well-thought-out plan," Roxy gestured towards the diagram of the train. "I'm thinkin' we hop these cars..." She traced her finger around a few cars. "And these cars..." She placed her other hand on top of two more cars. "I'm thinkin' this be where the wealthy ones sit..." Roxy circled one of the cars with her finger. "'Cause that's where that old businessman sat when he rolled in." She looked up at the rest of the group.

"Well, what do you guys think?" she asked, leaning back in her chair again.

Dr Josh continued steadily striding towards the safe house. Hs hands in his pockets as he puzzled over why Jack had summoned them. His head deep in thought he didn’t notice the figure falling out of the darkness until it was too late.

As the figure fell into him it uttered a “Nngghh…sorry…” Dr Josh reached for the scalpel, ready to fight off whoever it was that was crawling around at this time of night. But as his fingers reached the edge of the blade he recognised the figure as Abele's.

“Oh! Mr. Josh!" Aberle said to him producing a big grin. "I'm really sorry about that. I'm on one of my low days and there's this splitting headache that's been eating on my last nerve. Ehh...you wouldn't happen to have any pain relief on you w- oh nevermind. There's no time for that! Come on, let's go," Not waiting to give him a chance to respond Aberle grabbed the Dr’s arm and started to pull him along.

“Alright boy, we’re nearly there. We can pinch some of Jack’s whisky to shoot through that headache. I don’t know why your so excited it’s just Jack having one of his grand dreams that will end up with us all busting our luck in jail.” Dr Josh grumbled and with that he pushed open the door to the safe house, ignoring the warning signs and depilated nature of the building and took a seat.

It wasn’t long before Jack began explaining to them what he’d heard about Fargo and carriages filled with loot. Loot that sounded ripe for the pickings. The Dr nodded along, glancing about to the others in the room, Aberle, Loretta, [B]and Roxy had all turned up for the show.

“Where's Pepper?” Jack asked "I haven't seen her," Roxy shrugged.

Dr Josh just shook his head, he hadn’t had any cause to visit the bakery in a while. Strangely Jeane hadn’t mentioned she was missing but then she was inclined to miss little details like that in her ignorance of the town’s underclass.

!Well, this looks like a pretty well-thought-out plan," Roxy gestured towards the diagram of the train, pointing out carriages as she spoke.. "I'm thinkin' we hop these cars. And these cars. I'm thinkin' this be where the wealthy ones sit...'Cause that's where that old businessman sat when he rolled in. Well, what do you guys think?"

Dr Josh nodded, smiling at her, a woman with ideas straight up his street. “I agree we’ve got some competition in this town. An opportunity like this The Bad will be rife for. We should lock down Aberele here’s shop, don’t want them getting their hands on any more firepower. But it should be OK, The Bad are not all in peak performance.” He said warming to the idea. “Regarding the carriages, one a piece is fine, we’ll need a lookout. Someone with a good eye who’s quick with a gun and can be relied upon to watch backs.” He looked over at Jack, his expression clearly showing that wouldn’t be Jack for he didn’t trust him with blowing his own nose.

[Thanks Veldagia and Shenanigans! :'D The moment my internet cut back on was a moment of great celebrations!]

Together the doctor and Aberle traveled towards the Secret Hideout, sharing a conversation on whispered breath. As the doctor had told Aberle, it wasn't far until they caught sight of the hideout. No one had been around, but just to make sure they'd entered cautiously, one entering and then waiting a few moments before following in after.

Upon entering the room, Aberle flung himself around Jack's neck, "Jack~" he cried in a singsong tone, "It's been such a long time!" However, this closeness didn't last for long, as Halse's irritated personality washed over and enclosed about him, and he shuffled away, back to the side of the doctor.

Jack then informed them of a dark conversation he'd uncovered from Aspen, and a man called Fargo. Following this was an illustrious plan to raid a train. The hairs on the back of Halse's next stood with a rising excitement. How long had it been since such excitement had come their way? A deadly smirk rolled across his lips, and his tongue moistened them. As the plan drew to a conclusion, Jack asked, "Where's Pepper?"

The response was nothing more than confused glances between one another and light shrugs. No one had seen or heard anything from Pepper. Aberle gulped and wrung his hands nervously, "You don't think...one of the Bad might have...taken her out? I went by the bakery just yesterday, 'cose you know how I like her pies...but...she wasn't there. The shop wasn't closed, and a bunch of customers were kind of wandering around the bakery all confuddled and whatnot. I just thought...maybe she'd forgot to close up, or was off running errands..." He grimaced.

However, the others didn't find it important to linger on the subject, and Roxy continued on, "Well, this looks like a pretty well-thought-out plan," Roxy gestured towards the diagram of the train.

"Well, what do you guys think?" she inquired, and Aberle grinned enthusiastically.

"I think that sounds like a great idea, Rox," he placed a finger to his lips. "First-class passengers are usually set up towards the front of the train, after all, eh...right?" he looked around, hoping he didn't sound like a complete idiot. "Erm...eh... If Jack thinks it's a good idea, I think it's a good idea." He nodded with a certain finality and plopped down in the nearest seat for an added effect.

Roxy smiled at Aberle. It was great to have someone so enthusiastic around, although sometimes he tended to get annoying... But it was still nice to have someone who liked her idea. She turned toward Dr. Josh, pleased to find that he was smiling at her.

“I agree we’ve got some competition in this town. An opportunity like this The Bad will be rife for. We should lock down Aberle here’s shop, don’t want them getting their hands on any more firepower. Roxy couldn't help but notice Dr. Josh eyeing up Jack with distaste. It was no secret that the doctor despised following orders... She just hoped it wouldn't be their downfall.

"I'd rather be inside one of those cars, grabbin' the gold," Roxy grinned, brushing back her hair. "But if there are any other volunteers, I'd be willin' to lend you my Coach Gun. Not a bad shot, if I do say so myself." She leaned back in her chair a bit more, rocking it back and forth. "So? Any volunteers?"

Sierra walked into the town, looking around for the bakery. She Ran up to it and tried to open the the door, but it was locked. She banged on the door. "Pepper, Pepper! Hello?" She knew that Pepper loved that bakery. Where is she.

20 minutes later

Sierra had asked every person in town where Pepper might be, but no answer. Someone suggested that she might be staying the night with a friend in the hills. Sierra went over to the stable where she yelled to find somebody, but there was no answer. She went into the stable, laid some money on the table, and took a horse.

Sierra was almost an expert rider. The horse was going so fast you almost couldn't see her. Then she thought about her husband. How he was murdered on a train robbery. The horse went faster, and faster until he got tired and slowed down.

The horse became even more tired and had to stop. But there was no water to be found. Back in the hills was so quiet. You couldn't hear a thing. She kept riding, slowly, but surely. Eventually they came upon a small house. You could hear voices coming from inside. She quietly got off the horse. "Stay." She crept torwards the house. "Where's Pepper?" Then another man said, "You don't think...one of the Bad might have...taken her out?" Sierra started to worry and burst into the house.

((Apologies, they are now in))

He felt and arm come around him and a head on his shoulder, he looked down to see Aspen. After a moment of silence, she spoke."Looks like it's going to be a long night for you."

Billy thought about scolding her for not staying outside, where there wasn't gunshots, but he really wasn't surprised, she knew how to handle herself and she probably heard the wailing of Stella, so he just sighed, until she released him and he turned when he heard the noises at the door. Calista. She was putting her gun back in her holster and looking rather relieved.

Still curious as to what Aspen wanted to tell him, he turned towards her. "I'm going to help get Poppy wrapped up, more than likely however, Stella will want to make sure she's presentable and well dressed when she's buried." He walked over to the body and pulled the gun out of her hand carefully, There's no way that Poppy would have been taken down so easy, so he was not in doubt that she did it herself, that and the note. He was a bit curious about that, but she was an odd person in herself. He turned back to Calista and Aspen, "Why don't you go home, Aspen, if that news can't wait, then I can step to the side and speak to you now."

Raiding parties are done! Here's how the gang's made out. (Presented in numerical order.) The Ugly Gang started with cars 1 & 5, where they found $300 on each. The Bad began with cars 2 & 4 where they found $150 on each. Both Gangs raided car 6, so they split the $300 found on that car. Ugly raided car 7 and found a final $225, the Bad raided car 9 where they found $225.

So, grand totals: The Bad =$675 The Ugly =$975
Congratulations Ugly gang!
You now have 48 hours to pick any building to add to your territory.

For anyone wanting the clue explained:
Just a reminder, you’re not allowed to kill the host! I put the clue in the form of those annoying train mathematical questions just for the fun of it. I suppose the answer to which train would get to its destination first is Poor Coal Car #2, as it’s only traveling four days, which is less than the others. But anyway, it doesn’t matter, as the question was just for fun. The clue is the problem itself.

The clue talks of three different trains, the “Virtuous Engine #1”, the “Poor Coal Car #2” and the “Central Caboose #3”. Virtuous is a synonym for good, Poor a synonym for bad, and Central a synonym for middle. So in essence it’s saying this is the “good” train to rob, the “bad” train to rob and the “middle” train to rob.

Let’s start with the “good” choice: “The “Virtuous Engine #1”, as she’s been labeled, will be traveling north for five days, making six stops along the way.” So the four choices of the engine, cars 1, 5 and 6, would net you the most money possible in four choices.

For the “bad” choice: “The “Poor Coal Car #2”, as she’s been labeled, will be traveling south for four days making nine stops along the way.” The choices of coal car, cars 2, 4 and 9, would grant you the least amount of money possible in four choices.

And likewise the “middle” choice: “The final train, the “Central Caboose #3”, will be traveling west for seven days making eight stops along the way.” The choices of caboose, cars 3, 7 and 8 would be the middle ground for making gold.

Now I can hear the protests of not knowing the Engine, Coal Car and Caboose were open for raiding. I know, that was rather underhanded of me. But no where did I say that they were off limits. Guess I’m just tricky that way. :bandit:

Jack leaned back in his chair as the group discussed things. He didn't fail to notice the glance off Dr. Josh on the phrase "relied upon". It wasn't something he'd bring up, though. Well, not at the moment but certainly maybe later, down in the saloon. Right now, he was focused on one thing and that was the money.

He studied the train diagram bearing Roxy's idea once again, making one small change with his pencil. Satisfied, Jack turned to the group and was about to speak when the door flew open and a girl burst into the room. Just as suddenly as the girl's entrance, Jack had his gun out and aimed at her.

"The signs said Warning for a reason." he said slowly. The girl was only young - but she'd already heard too much. "Spying for The Bad, were you? Stand up." The girl complied. Jack lowered his weapon, but declined to put the thing away. "Who are you?"
"Sierra Spice. Peppers sister" she said, nervously.

Jack remained silent for a few seconds, apparently thinking. "Sierra, you can use a gun?"
"Yes - and well. I can ride, too."
"Then take this one here." he took a second pistol from the other side of his belt, tossing the metal to Sierra. "We could use some help. I take it you have no objection to raiding a train?" his eyes glittered as he saw her flinch ever so slightly. She'd have no choice over the train-raiding, she was part of The Ugly now. But it was always polite to ask.

(((ooc: *lol* Well, I pretty much insisted that the destinations had to have something to do with it, and the time when this RP takes place, Georgia was prospering. And someone else had a theory about the value of coal (diamonds are made of coal, so...).
And then there was the question about what train would reach it's destination first. We (I?) figured it had to be a hint.
But alas... *lol*)))

"What makes you think we can trust her Jack?" Aberle's personality was being tossed and thrown between Halse and his own, but it seemed that Halse was rapidly taking more control for himself. "How the hell do we know that she isn't one of the very ones that killed off Pepper? You're just going to let her in, just like that without any kind of evidence to back up her word?" He crossed his arms, and his weight transferred to his left leg so that he leaned back a little. His eyes were narrowed to snake-like slits as he observed Sierra.

Halse never trusted anyone. The very idea made his heart skip a beat and the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. People were malicious creatures that, as soon as the other had his back turned, devoured their so called companions. He knew, he'd done it himself on numerous occasions.

"We at least need something confirming your existence. Of all the times Aberle and I have been around her, I've never once heard her mention anything about having a sister," Halse watched her with deadly eyes as the young woman fidgeted beneath the stare of the observing gang.

Billy finally turned his head toward her, obviously hiding his fume."I'm going to help get Poppy wrapped up, more than likely however, Stella will want to make sure she's presentable and well dressed when she's buried." He walked over to Poppy's body. "Why don't you go home, Aspen, if that news can't wait, then I can step to the side and speak to you now."

"You know what, 'Sheriff'? You know what I think? I think you should stop trying to be the goddamn hero everytime tragedy strikes, and then turn around and go be Romeo too. You're not good at either so how about you just give up? Give up! Dammit! I'll go back to my rundown Saloon and tell the people news they already know, and go sleep with some stranger that just rolled into town and hustled money out of people!" Aspen had finally lost it. Everytime she had tried to help him, he made her turn away. She had cared about him, and wanted to help him make better decisions so maybe his life would be a little less crappy then hers. But she had given up. She was tired and tonight she wouldn't sleep. Stomping out to the door, she stopped and called back at him, looking down at the wood planks. "You know, Billy? I've figured out where I belong. I can't cover up my flaws, and neither can you. Time for you to figure out where you are, and where you're going." And with that she walked out, briefly looking up at Calista before returning to her glowing, oblivious, Saloon.

(((ooc: Uhh... I must've missed something, cuz I'm not following in the least. *LOL* But oh well.)))

"I'm going to help get Poppy wrapped up", Billy said, turning towards Aspen after she'd released him. "More than likely however, Stella will want to make sure she's presentable and well dressed when she's buried."

He walked over to the body to pry the gun out of it's hand, while giving it somewhat of a closer inspection. Did he suspect foul play, Calista wondered. Suicide was the most likely theory, but it couldn't be the only one. Poppy had been unwise enough to threaten Calista, so who knew whose else's business she might've stuck her nose into?
Still, there didn't seem to be any signs indicating she'd been murdered, and Calista knew that Poppy wouldn't have gone quietly, had she been murdered.
But suicide? Calista had thought Poppy would be the last person to do something like that. Sure, she was erratic, dramatic and as close to a loose cannon as you could come, but still, it seemed odd.

"Why don't you go home, Aspen", Billy said to the pretty saloon owner. "If that news can't wait, then I can step to the side and speak to you now."

Calista's heart jumped. Even when standing only a few feet away from a corpse, she was more effected by Billy than by the dead body. She'd seen dozens of dead bodies, but no one had gotten to her the way he did, for years.
'Why don't you go home, Aspen', he'd said. Not 'Calista', not 'the two of you'. Only 'Aspen'.

But while it did please Calista to hear him say it, she didn't quite understand it. What did he mean? He was hardly asking Aspen to go just so that he could be alone with Calista again. That would've been... more odd than Poppy's suicide even. There were far more important matters at hand right now.
Maybe he just didn't want to tell her what to do? After all, he knew her temper by now, and knew she'd refused to be ordered around.
Or maybe he and Aspen had some business going on that Calista didn't know about?

"You know what, 'Sheriff'?" Aspen said. "You know what I think? I think you should stop trying to be the goddamn hero everytime tragedy strikes, and then turn around and go be Romeo too. You're not good at either so how about you just give up? Give up! Dammit! I'll go back to my rundown Saloon and tell the people news they already know, and go sleep with some stranger that just rolled into town and hustled money out of people!"

Calista's eyebrows shot up, and she gave the two of them a confused look. What the hell...?
But before she could say anything, Aspen stormed past her, towards the door. There she stopped, only to finish with:

"You know, Billy? I've figured out where I belong. I can't cover up my flaws, and neither can you. Time for you to figure out where you are, and where you're going."

With that, she was gone, leaving Calista and Billy probably looking equally baffled.
A few seconds of stunned silence passed, and then Calista looked over at Billy, confusion still written all over her face.

"What was that all about...?"

(((ooc: Hope I didn't make matters worse for you, foolin? I'm trying to help. :) )))

Time for you to figure out where you are, and where you're going." She took a look at Calista before she left.

"What was that about?" Calista asked in confusion.

Billy threw his hands up and looked at her. "I have no idea." He was feeling a bit shocked and slightly pissed when he kicked the desk. Poppy's dead body shook slightly as the desk rocked and he turned back to Calista. What was she trying to say? Billy wasn't trying to be the hero. Though maybe he does try to share the burden alone sometimes, and the Romeo and flaws comment, was he that transparent? It wasn't easy being the good guy and the bad guy. He had to keep a front for the town while doing his dirty deeds. Truth was, lately, he was just trying to live. Stella came back in the room dry eyed, looking at Billy and Calista. She let them know she'd be taking care of the body herself and cleaning the room, because Poppy wouldn't want such people in her office. She escorted them out and when the door shut behind them he wondered if Calista would be yelling at him as well. He was angry and didn't want to take it out on her so he muttered a good night and walked towards the Jail. He'd be taking Lady out of a Midnight ride tonight.

Okay, now I have a question for ya'll. The Bad still have not RPed the train robbery. Given Poppy's death and Peppers sister arriving in town, I would like your input. Feel free to either PM me, or post it openly in the forums, what ever you're comfortable with. What I'd like to know is do you want a few extra days before the next round to tie up your RP loose ends? However the poor Good gang is at a stand still, and I believe they'd benefit from getting the next round started. Bad gang, since you lost the train raiding it's entirely possible to just skip it entirely in your RP. Up to you.

So yeah, I'd like to know your thoughts on that. I'll wait a while to see what ya'll think before posting the next round.

*edit* Sorry, I had uploaded the wrong image by mistake. The map should be correct now. :frying:

As the young woman burst into the room Dr Josh’s hand slid over his pistol discretely drawing it out but kept it concealed under the table. He eyed the woman suspiciously but didn’t say a word as Jack interrogated her, pistol drawn.

“Spying for The Bad, were you? Stand up." Jack ordered. . "Who are you?"

"Sierra Spice. Peppers sister" the young women said, nervously.

Dr Josh proceeded to look on aghast as Jack confirmed they were about to rob a train and even threw her one of his guns. How had he not got himself killed, trusting instantly she was Sierra’s sister, she could be one of the bad or the law? Or even some outlaw with their hides in her eye.

Aberle voiced the questions that were plummeting through his brain. At least someone was showing some sense of the situation. "What makes you think we can trust her Jack?"

The young woman responded nervously "Pepper, she, she probably has letters from me in her study, in the back of the bakery. It doesn't matter anyway. I'm obviously here to help," She looked down at the gun. "but if you want to see them, I'll show you. Maybe she has some pies left for, oh, who was it, Aberle?"

Dr Josh nodded, his hand firmly on the pistol as he replied. “That sounds fair enough, show us the letters.” He cast an angry scowl in Jack’s direction. He wouldn’t trust just anyone with his life on a robbery. What kind of leader would put them all at risk like that? If she couldn’t shoot straight she might put a bullet in one of their backs herself. The little respect he had for Jack vanished with a puff into thin air.

He stood up and marched towards the door. “I presume a detour is in order before we even think of beginning our deeds.” He snapped in Jack’s direction. Then turned and gave the young woman a hard smile. If she was exactly who she said then he had no qualms with her. He just needed a little more proof first than having picked up their names.

(OCC sorry for laying into Jack Haylifer, but I just couldn’t see Josh accepting someone off the cuff or respecting anyone who did in that situation.))

((Rofl far too long post ahead... be warned))

The girl held the gun she had just recieved nervously. It seemed that more than one amongst the group had objections to Sierra's participation. Aberle - no, Halse - was the first to express his opinion on the matter. "What makes you think we can trust her Jack?" he snarled, turning to Sierra and demanding evidence. Jack sat on the edge of his desk, putting a few strands of black hair back into place nonchelently as the girl stuttered an answer.
"Pepper, she, she probably has letters from me in her study, in the back of the bakery."

For Jack, the evidence that the girl was indeed Pepper's sister was of little importance. He was still focused on his hair, turning back to fixing his remaining pistol. While Sierra was still answering Halse's question, he opened a drawer behind him filled with different weapons. Picking up a few and trying them out, he decided on an elaborately decorated pair of silver pistols. He strapped the pair of pistols to his belt and smiled round at his group, with an expression that said "Shall we be off, then?"

Unfortunately, Dr. Josh also had two cents to put in on the matter. “That sounds fair enough, show us the letters. I presume a detour is in order before we even think of beginning our deeds.” said the doctor sharply, standing up and marching to the door. Jack mirrored his actions, getting to his own feet.

"Dr. Cooper, I don't think that'll be necessary." Jack stated, almost lethargically. He lowered his voice slightly. "Whether she is or she isn't a relative of our Pepper, that's by the by. If she isn't a spy, or at least opposed to us, we have nothing to worry about. And if that's not so, I'd really rather we keep a close and guarded eye on her instead of letting her scurry off back to The Bad. It'd completely spoil my day if The Bad get to that train before us." With a smile to Sierra, he opened the door for Dr. Josh. "You're right, we may have to take a detour. Best to set off now and not be late."

Six horses waited patiently outside for the gang. Twenty minutes of riding, and they had reached a stretch of track leading to next town's station; the closest one to Tumbleweed Valley. This part of the track in particular was Jack's preferred spot for train raids in this area - plenty of bushes giving cover and a sharp bend in the track. He glanced at his pocket watch, giving his black horse, Bess, a quick scratch behind the ears as she pawed the ground. The other horses were likewise irritable, standing behind the bush in the baking sun.
"Jack, are you sure we haven't missed it?" someone asked.
He shook his head, determined. "No.. I'm sure it's just late. Fashionably late."
Sure enough, not five minutes later the plume of white came over the horizon.
"Right, men - ladies!" grinned Jack, yanking on Bess's reins. "It's showtime. Follow me, keep up with the train, and only board exactly when I say - no sooner, no later." Bess took off, followed by a string of five horses racing alongside the last carriage on the locomotive. The bend in the track was coming up, a fallen tree barring the trains path - the trains iron wheels screeched along the track as it slowed down to a halt. Jack counted down from ten in his head.. they'd have to move quickly, there was no room for error. He held out three fingers to the group.. "Three.. two.. one.. Okay, go!"

He swung off Bess, grabbing onto the rusty metal bar on the back of the still--moving train and vaulting over it. Both feet safely on the train floor, he pulled up the black bandana to cover his face and entered the back carriage. This was the luggage carriage, but he didn't intend to raid here. He moved through the carriages until they reached the first class area, holding ornate pistols out at the fat, rich passengers.
"Your money or your life." he smirked. That old line got them every time. Businessmen lined up on the plush leather seats, just waiting to have their cash taken off them, which Jack willingly did for them. $300.. not too bad for one carriage. Suddenly, a cold yet warmly familiar voice behind him stopped him in his tracks.

"Well if it isn't Jack Scarlet.. What a surprise to see you here." sarcastically drawled the wealthy woman dressed in crimson. She was heavily made-up and her blonde ringlets were perfectly in place, but the woman had an air of uncomfortableness with her appearance.

Jack wondered whether it would be best to pretend he didn't hear the woman and make a swift escape through the window. No, maybe that would be too noticable. He turned to the woman with a wide smile.
"Wonderful to see you again, Vi-" She quickly put up a hand to interject Jack's statement.
"Amelia Rose Freewater, if you please." she gave a swift wink, fanning herself quickly. Then, for the sake of the rest of the cabin, she decided it was best to act the damsel in distress. "Oh somebody save me! A robber! Bandit! Unworthy scum!" She subtley grabbed Jack and marched him to the end of the carraige.
"Where's your horse, Jack? Can we hurry - I'm on the run from the law as it is, as if that train incident wasn't suspicious enough for a poor girl."
"On the run again, Viola? And I suppose you're after a place to hide out in Tumbleweed?" he said miserably. She nodded, pulling off the blonde wig to reveal cropped brown hair, and wiping off some of the makeup on her expensive dress.
"Yes, I was hoping you'd have a little somewhere in your town for me"

The next bend in the track had started; the pair braced themselves to jump.

Sherriff Starks’ hair was more unkempt than usual this morning. It had been a long night, and the cock crowed far too early. As he stumbled into the Jail wishing someone would kill that stupid bird, his deputy Beaufred was waiting for him. “There ya are Sherriff! Hey lookie here what just came over the telegraph.”

Sheriff Starks usually had a witty reply for his deputy, but was too tired to bother with it this morning. He took the paper from his Deputy and read over it. There was a snapshot of a pretty lady followed by a long list of crimes. The law had been following her secretly and was all set to take her in custody when she departed a train in Shady Gulch; but when that train arrived she was nowhere to be found. Instead there were a lot of rich folks stompin mad that they had their pockets emptied out. It is believed she orchestrated the robbery, and is at large once again.

Just as Billy was about done reading the notice Beaufred started his rambling again. "Hey Sheriff, you don’t suppose that maybe she could be somewhere around here do ya? I mean Shady Gulch is the next town over and all.” While Beaufred rambled on and on, Sherriff Starks’ own mind was churning. There was a hefty reward offered for the capture of this girl, and it would do his image a lot of good. So, the search was on.

This challenge is for the Good and the Bad only. Jack’s ‘friend’ is hiding out somewhere in town, and your two gangs want to find her! Whoever captures her first is this round’s winner. Every 12 hours (real time) each gang is allowed to PM me one guess as to where she is hiding. We’ll be using the typical first come first serve fashion. To be fair, I am not taking any guesses the first 24 hours, as that should allow time for everyone to see this challenge, get started on figuring it out, and ask any questions. Gang Leaders, feel free to PM me your wishes on allowing others in your gang to PM me on your behalf.

So for these first 24 hours, don’t send in a guess. Then tomorrow about this time I’ll open up the guessing. Each Gang is allowed one guess every 12 hours. First Gang to PM me her location is the winners. Due to a trip I have coming up she will need to be found the first four days of guessing. If she's not found, then whoever comes closest to her will be the winners. She must be found by Saturday Evening (Eastern Time (for USA) GMT -6).

And as always, here’s a clue:

Roxy stood by the counter of the Inn once more, scrubbing the hard surface and trying fruitlessly to remove the caked-on grease and grime. It had been hours now since the train robbery, and the entire gang had been celebrating over their victory. But for some odd reason, Jack had disappeared since they had left the train. It wasn't strange for him to vanish like this; he often suddenly left and returned for weeks at a time. But for him to leave just as they came of so much money... It wasn't his nature.

Finally, Roxy gave up on the counter and moved onto washing the dishes, which were just as dirty. She recalled with a smile how easily they had been able to rob the train cars... All the wealthy idiots handing over their money without a fight... That cocky young teenager who almost gave his life before his cash... It had been nice to escape the daily grind and have a little fun for once.

"Fancy seeing you here, Roxy."

Roxy turned around. That hard, patronizing voice was all too familiar. She couldn't believe it. Beneath a tattered cloak which she guessed was meant to be a disguise, there stood Viola, her old friend and neighbor. The last time she had seen Viola, she'd been running away with half of Roxy's life's savings.

"Well, well, well," Roxy raised her eyebrows and cracked a smile. "I don't believe we ever finished that poker game, Vi." It took all her will power not to reach out and strangle her. "But I don't suppose that's why you're here. I suppose you're here to hide, possibly?" She gestured towards the Wanted signs that showed a blurry picture of Viola's face. "Maybe I should just turn you in and take the $2,000. That should pay off a little chunk of what you stole from me."

((I hope it's okay that I dragged Viola into the Inn and sort of made up a background story... If not I'll change it. :)))

Name: Mortimer Snigglefritz
Age: 33
Bio: Mortimer was born into the circus life. His mother, Edna the Amazing Bearded Woman, had married Little Jack, the Tiniest Man in the World. After several years of marriage they, to everyone's amazement, had a son who they lovingly named Mortimer. They had named him after their recently deceased friend Mortimer, the Death Defying Sword Swallow, who had unfortunately sneezed at a most inappropriate time during his act thus ending the defying part of his career. Mortimer Snigglefritz worked many jobs in the circus - barker, ringmaster, fire eater, trapeze artist, block head and even on occasion bearded woman (don't ask). Most recently he had found great success running Mortimer's Most Merry Flea Circus.
Gang: Good (I was going to hold out for Ugly but I think he could be good. I just won't be able to try and con people.)

Mortimer plopped onto the dirt next to his wagon causing a small cloud of dust to rise around him. Removing his hat, he placed it on his stomach as he laid back onto the ground and slid under the wagon. He knew what he would find, but felt the need to look anyway. Rocks from the road had left gouges and nicks the entire length of the axle. He had been lucky to make it to town on what remained.

He slid back out, sat up and returned his hat back to his head. Sighing deeply, he looked around at what fate had decided would be his new town. Tumbleweed Valley wasn't exactly what he had in mind when he dreamt of life away from the carnival. But it didn't look any worse than every other town he had entered for the last few months.

Still, he knew from history to always have an escape plan. That was the carnie in him. And that plan meant he needed to get his wagon fixed as quickly as possible. He stood and brushed some of the dirt from his trousers. He was hardly a fastidious man, but still the level of dust that seemed to constantly cover everything bothered him.

He hadn't made a dent in the filth, when a small boy came running down the street. Mortimer smiled his biggest friendly smile as he yelled for the boy to come close. He asked the child whether there was blacksmith in town. He quickly learned there was and that the boy had seen the forge owner entering the Hamilton's house just down the street.

Mortimer thanked the child before walking towards the house the boy had noted. He didn't look forward to dealing with people, but he lacked the skills and supplies to make the repair himself. Renewing his battle with the dust that clung to him, Mortimer randomly wiped at his clothing as he approached the door and knocked firmly.

((OOC: Thanks Gerbera. Shenanigans, can he have a wagon for his Flea Circus? Like this one (http://www.ranchwillowwagons.com/gypsy-wagons.html) only it would have carnival logos and be horse drawn of course.))
Oh, most definantely, only on the map it'll look like a little rectangle. :)

Regarding the map, I am leaving the Post Office on the map, just it'll no longer be claimed territory. I just couldn't take the post office away from the town. I'll get an updated map uploaded later.

*edit*
The 12 hours of the first round has not completely passed, however I received both votes already, so thought I’d post them The extra time will just roll on in to the next round. So both gangs have about sixteen and a half hours to get in their second guesses.

The Good gang busied itself looking for Viola at the schoolhouse. Meanwhile the Bad gang searched the Saloon. Unfortunately both gangs turned up empty handed and have to continue their search.

*edit x2*
The map is now updated. Once Mortimer fixes his wagon, feel free to park it across from the Post Office at the corner of Cactus Bloom and Main Street. :)

Frustrated, Billy threw his hat on the floor of the Saloon, kicking at it. If he could find this woman, it would do his pockets some good, and it would also keep those too nosey for their own good off his back for awhile, while his image of nice town sherriff would remain intact. He'd searched the Saloon hastily lifting up the guys off their stools to make sure they were really guys. Would she really be so obvious to hide in plain sight though? Why not. That way she could get a heads up on what was going on and stay a few steps ahead. Possibly foolish, but it's what Billy would do. He approached the bar, having left the hat on the ground and threw the paper infront of Aspen. "You seen her?" Billy watched as Aspen lifted an eyebrow and he pointed to the reward money.

"Sherriff?" Billy turned towards his deputy who was wiping the sweat from his brow and pulling at his pants. "I can't find her."
"Figures," said Billy,"You couldnt' find your way out of a potato sack." Beaufred looked at him with his brows furrowed, he could too find his way out of a potato sack, they aren't THAT big! Infact...

"Ha Ha, Sherriff, I can't fit into a potato sack! You dropped your hat by the way." Billy rolled his eyes as he took his hat and looked at Aspen, "Mind handing me the whole bottle of whiskey?" Billy sat confounded wondering where else this woman could be. If he was hiding in Tumbleweed, Where would he hide?

That's it.

**News alert!! News alert!!**
This just in! Long time wanted criminal has been found! Viola was found by the Bad gang hiding on the DeLancy house property!!

~*~

Clue explained: Crossing DeLancy was a romance movie that graced the silver screen in 1988. It was directed by Joan Micklin Silver.
You guys got that waaaaay too quick! I must make a harder clue next time!

Okay, so Bad Gang, feel free to take a few days to figure out which building you'd like to take over. Also, please go ahead and RP taking Viola captive and putting her in the Jail. She needs to be there for the next challenge. I'd like to have her in the Jail by Saturday. That gives ya'll three days. :)

Hi Inucrazy :howdy:
I'm glad you want to join us! I'm assuming you'd like to join The Bad, as they are the only gang with an immediate opening at the moment. Let me know if that's not correct. Also, judging by your Short Bio you'd like to have a ranch. Would you mind taking over the Abandoned Cattle Ranch? You could change it to whatever type of ranch you'd like. It doesn't quite jive with the fact of being born on it though. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. And again, glad to see a new face!

Mr. Flea Circus was knocking on your door. lol For some reason that sounds hilarious to me.

The Bad have decided they want their Jail back. Sheriff Starks will breathe easier at night now. :) The map has been updated (it's just a few posts up) to show the changes. I will refrain from posting the next round quite yet. I'd like to give ya'll some time to RP Viola's capture and all. Have fun! :)

veldagia - thanks for staying on top of me. Unfortunately I had "updated" the wrong map. It hadn't had the Ugly's train robbery success changed yet. Sorry! Should be all fixed now.

((okay, i'm feverish and sweaty and swollen and i'm writting an RP that may make no sense... please bare with me... :( ))

Billy took off out of the saloon like a shot gun shooting it's first bullet. He jumped off the stoop yelling for Beaufred to follow him, running toward the Delancy House. "Sherriff? Where ya going?" Beaufred's voice lulled breathlessly in Billy's ear. When he reached the door he knocked and waited for an answer. When he didnt' hear anything he motioned for Beaufred to head towards the back door, motioning for him to be quiet along the way. "It's Sherriff Starks, Loretta? I wanted to ask you about a thief seen not far from here..." He saw a shadow move in the window and a breif moment later, two shots from the back. Dammit. Billy thought. The rewards only good if she's alive!

Billy ran around the corner watching a woman running towards the Prarie. He couldnt' afford to lose her now and he glanced around to find Beaufred writhing in pain and grabbing his knee. He would have laughed but he had to catch himself a woman.

He chased her clear across Tumbleweed and was near arriving at Calista's house when he was starting to feel his lungs burn. That's when she momentarily tripped giving him the opening he needed. He leaped forward and grabbed her leg, falling down to the ground and taking her with him. She struggled to roll over from off her stomach and pointed her gun at Billy. He slapped her hand and the gun went off shooting a nearby tree. He used his body to pin her down before taking the gun from her hand. "I'm not above hitting a woman who shots at me." Billy sneered.

Beaufred limped up to Billy as he was tying Viola's hands behind her back. "It's just a scratch." Billy glanced at the knee of his wounded deputy. It wasn't major but, "you should probably go have that looked at anyway."

He rushed Viola behind the bars and sat behind his desk looking at all the knives, guns and brass knuckles the woman carried. "you're a walking arsenal" smiled Billy. "And now, your mine."

Katherine was sitting in the kitchen with Jonathan, having a lovely conversation, when she heard a knock at the door. Quickly followed by a pair of little feet running to get it.

"MOMMY" called Emily-Rose 'There's a funny man at the door". Katherine quickly got up from her chair and went to see who it was.
