Have an idea for a new RP that you want some suggestions on or help developing? Don't know if your idea will be popular enough to get the players you want? Looking to set up a specific RP but want certain types of characters participating? Want to do a one-on-one RP with just the right player?

You can, of course, PM one another if you're doing something one-on-one so you don't clog up the thread with things that only you and one other person need to talk about... but here you can share your ideas, coordinate your efforts, find an RP partner, and plan your next RP in this here thread.

Well, I know what I'd like to see is a superhero/supervillian like RP where we divide off, each have super powers, and can direct wars against one another. Like an alternate earth idea, where each side commands an army or such.

I'd like to see an older DnD/Fable type role play, back in the old days, with fantasy characters, where every once in awhile we have missions, divide up into different groups, meet new people and regroup with old ones we know if we run into them at the bar or something. ^^

I'd love to do something with a very small group - either one or two other people, and extremely character-driven (even more so than you'd expect for everyone running a specific character - I really like exploring the complexities and complications of the human mind).

I'd love to see one or more of the following:

Extremely freeform tavern-based play... the thread would just be a tavern somewhere on the beaten path where weary travellers stop by, meet, interact, and then perhaps form their own adventures in separate threads.
SCIENCE!!! - either in the form of a nice Victorian Steampunk or perhaps a slightly futuristic free energy gone wrong kinda thing. I'm the daughter of an alchemist - I like this sorta thing. ;)
Roman Empire - soldiers or commoners
Pirates!
An incredibly traditional D&D party system with a nice dungeon crawl, beating up monsters to take their stuff - done in a humour-filled self-aware kinda style.
Silly sim RP - including the quirks of the sim world like spinning to change clothes, alien impregnation for males, etc.


Any of those appeal to anyone? :)

As for the Hero RP, what do you guys think would make a good setup.

I think, we should divide the world up, each side getting areas, countries, etc. We can fight like you see in the comics (super high tech war machines, but a modern world) and can expand into space battles and the such. Id love to have a chance to have forces fight in New York City, blasting down buildings, and causing havoc.

What do you all suggest?

I figure I would throw out a couple of my own RP suggestions. Here are some ideas that my friends and I have tried RPing over the years.

-Post-Apocalyptic setting. Bombed out cities, bombed out forests, the works. Trying to find a group to survive.

And, if you would like something with a very in-depth plotline, I have the following...

-The gateway to the Clock Room, which lies in the realm of Ephemeral, standing on the edge of Existence and Nothing, is being sought after by the followers of Nayarang, the god of Nothing. Their goal is to sieze the power from Nayarang's sister, the goddess of Everything, by destroying the timelines of everything that keeps the world functional, and therefore would destroy all of existence.


Those are the only ones I can think of right now. But as I remember more, I'll add them to the suggestion box.

Being the huge Harry Potter dork that I am, I'd be thrilled to do a Harry Potter thing. However, I know there are specific sites for that type of thing, so it's probably best that we come up with our own story line to be following.

Some ideas that were appealing to me were the Heros/Villians suggestion (anyone think of the Beach Boys when they heard that? *swoons*), pirates (who doesn't like pirates?), and the science fiction type ideas HP was suggesting (if we can't have magic, why not messed up science?). Knowing the people on this forum, though, it seems that the Mafia idea will go over well. :D

I like Greenstraw's idea of making our own fantasy world with bits of everything. After all, everyone would be satistfied, and there would be all sorts of opportunities for RPs from magic to Mafia.

I'm going to try to type up a fighting styled RP. Like a tournament, but with a plot. But I already typed up a pirates (desperado 2) one, so maybe I will do that one first. It's more of a POTC rp though.

Another one that I like, but I doubt anyone else would like is an amazing race rp. There will be teams of 2, and each group will have to travel around the world. I'd have to tie in a storyline, and other stuff too though.

The only issue I can see arising is an overrun of RPs, clogging the forums up.. with little, and bluntly said, crappy RPs just taking up air space.

you never know however which ones will take off and which ones won't. So you have to let them all have a chance, and not only that, but if they start to die off, they can always be deleted or archived.

I've been toying with the idea of a Peter Pan-esque contest... Pirates, Indians and Lost boys in Neverland... I'm struggling with coming up with ideas for it and the ideas I had have been mostly forgotten. So don't expect to see anything like that soon (unless someone else rips off my idea and beats me to it)

Would these RPs be more text based, or more D&D style, with possible outcomes determined by dice or DMs or something? I'm infinately more fond of the text based, third person kind, that's why I ask.
By the way, here are some ideas I like: Derange's apocalypse game, HP's Sims and steampunk game, and Kakashi's Mafia game. I'm with Greenie, actually, I don't like fantasy RP all that well, but I'll do it.
Here are some ideas from me, up for grabs because I should work on my stories instead of RPs: A western themed RP, with gunslingers, saloons, the works. Think Deadwood rather than Leoni, though, because spaghetti westerns, while fun, don't seem to have much of a story.
Or maybe a horror RP with ghosties and monsters...haunted house or something.
Last idea, and this is kind of a pet project of mine, sort of post-apocalyptic, but neater: Everyone in the world disapears, literally, except for a handful of people (the RP'ers). Two groups begin to form, those who are good and evil. The working title is Absences, and I was going to make this a webcomic before I ran out of time and ambition, so it's fair game. Totally ripped off from Stephen King's The Stand, but ah well, at least I admit it...anyways those are my ideas, I will be eagerly awaiting the first RP!

*Editzorz: Kate, that sounds very cool! I think that combines a lot of the best features of fantasy RP, I hope you get around to writing it up.

Ha, Dark Tower is really the whole reason I like westerns...that would be fun to do a Dark Tower RP, too, I've always wanted to use some of that language. The only problem with Dark Tower is that not as many people have read the books, so it might be a little difficult to get a proper membership. Harry Potter RPs, for example, will not have that problem, but I think Dark Tower is still a bit underground.

Wizards of the Coast owns my soul, so does anybody want to RP as planeswalkers (Magic: the Gathering) or endbringers (Hecatomb)? MtG especially has alot of rich roleplaying material. I'd positively love to play on Ravnica or Kamigawa. I could play on Dominaria way back before the Phyrexian Invasion too. But unfortunately it seems the Magic storylines are pretty obscure even to those who play Magic. I don't know too terribly much about the plots and locations of the Hecatomb storyline, but the thought of roleplaying an endbringer excites me to no end. If we do a Heros/Villains RP, you can expect that I'll be a villain out to bring the apocalypse.

I'd enjoy a horror setting, but "monsters and ghosties" doesn't sound very horror to me. It can be, but in general ghosts aren't scary. Zombies and mummies are boring, werewolves are annoying, vampires are overdone... Really not much is scarier than a really screwed up human. However, I don't think we could do what I'm thinking and have it be considered "PG-13".

Steampunk how interesting! I guess thats what you could call the anime Trigun. Its kinda a western/scientific/steampunk/post apocolyptic anime, if anyone's seen it.

I was under the impression that these really weren't really Contests, as this is located in the Off Topic area of the Forum, but we should probably ask just in case, as that goes, how many post are we allowed per day? Though I have an idea about that *still working it out* but once i get some of the kinks out i'll post it, it may keep post numbers down.

I think the main thing is to have a really well-thought out and clear first post that explains your theme, what sort of players you're looking for, roughly how many, and kinda what the rules are and what you're going to be doing with it. At this point I'm leaving exactly the format for this up to ya'll - I think as we do some and see what works really well and what doesn't there can be a bit more of a standardized format that will become the accepted norm.

We are very much playing this by ear at the moment and as we see how things develop the rules and guidelines will change. :)

I am open to both varieties, and I think whether it's freeform - a cooperative story - or guided by a DM/GM, with or without dice, is going to be up to whoever creates the RP. Again, subject to change, but I think opening up both and seeing how they go is a good idea. I personally would be generally going for more of a cooperative story freeform format, where you basically just write an interesting something with everyone controlling their own character - with certain flavors having a little bit of guidance from a DM/GM for setting. Well, it wouldn't have to be exactly like that - honestly I think a Dark Tower kind of feel would tie in very well to steampunk - Dark Tower's basically a fantasy steampunk western. Yes, you may do a contest that is purely RP based in this forum - I think contests like The Hidden Palace, which is a strategy roleplay with contest and sim elements, would be more appropriate in this forum than the sim contests forum. The line between what is a sim contest (going in that forum) and what is a roleplay with contest and sim elements (going in this forum) is a little bit grey... but will basically boil down to what it takes to progress in the contest. If every round demands participants actually spend time in-game taking pics to go along with their entries, it's a sim contest. If it's more about voting, strategy, roleplaying, etc. and the only sim elements are for applications pics then it should go here in the roleplaying forum. I hesitate to even call stuff like The Hidden Palace a contest as it's more of a roleplaying competition.

Because of the rather thick grey line between things (and the fact that this is very new) if someone is confused over whether their idea belongs in the contest forum or here, please contact a moderator of either forum (me, discordkitty, or boolPropped) with a description of your idea and its rules so we can tell you where it would be more appropriate.

I don't mind violence or swearing where it's appropriate and where it's not overdone. Try to keep descriptions of violence to more... technical descriptions when you can, and let's not get into blood and gore too much. I mainly just want us to stay away from things that are extremely ishy or over-the-top. I'm okay with the roleplays dealing with just about any subject matter as long as it's done with care, remembering that many of our members are teenagers, and they have parents that may not like them reading detailed in-depth descriptions of gore and sex and stuff. One can be quite sufficiently dark and gritty without being gross and crass. :)

Yes, one can go ahead and just post a new thread in this section. New threads are not moderated here, though that may change. I won't say it's mandatory but it's strongly suggested at this point that you PM me with your text just so I can take a look and see that there's nothing major I think you've left out.

The first post should probably explain at least somewhat the rules... Are you just going to play purely freeform, or are you going to be GMing - with or without dice - and if so, how much? Are there strategy/competitive aspects like The Hidden Palace or is everyone just writing a cooperative story? What is the setting like? What kind of players are you looking for and roughly how many? Links to inspiration pics, backstory, etc., whatever, all up front. You can always then either add on to the bottom of your post divided somehow or - I don't mind a double post in this circumstance - post after that with whatever your first character post is, jumping straight into the roleplay. I think the exception to this would be solos and one-on-one RPs that the participants have arranged amongst themselves... but you should make that clear in a little ((OOC)) text somewhere on the first post and subject line anyway just so folks don't try to jump in with their own characters where they're not supposed to.

I've set up that section with just a real basic navigation and such. We can polish it up and make it shinier later if need be.

If you take a look at the M page you'll see an example entry there for a character from my story. You can put a picture or not (thanks to Delphy for making that work!) and all the formatting and stuff and junk is done automagically. You just have to fill in the blanks. You can edit that page and copy my original text for Merun to do your own. Please note the little info stuffs on adding new entries on the first page - spam and be hit with a broom. ;)

The only RPing I do is silly and completely non-serious (usually), so those are the only ones I can think of. So far I've had a random and crazy fantasy school for pupils of any species, and also a circus. Actually, that might be fun. It's just the backstage bits, because they're more interesting, and it's fantasy, because that's what I like. Anyone interested in either of those?

I loved the Sims2Community High School, and would love to play in almost any genre that worked with that mechanic, 'cause I think that'd be perfect for forum-roleplay. Would love a Sims RP or the Titanic one.

I've also been itching to run an RP centered on relationships, with each person having a goal to achieve and someone who opposes it as well as someone who supports it. HP, would it be possible to categorize the character wiki by which roleplay the characters belong to? I think it's a great wiki, but it could be easier to group all the characters from one RP together. That way if you're only playing one, you don't have to play the guessing game trying to figure out who's in your game.

If people go ahead and add their characters, the first post for each RP can list the characters, linking directly to their profiles on the wiki. I assume people may use the same characters for multiple RPs so we'd end up with duplicate entries for people, and I don't want to clog up the wiki - which is not mainly about roleplaying - with a bunch of pages when we can do it alphabetically.

Just for an example, if I wanted to link directly to Merun's entry on the M page, I could use:

It automatically makes an anchor on the page when you give the character's name so one could then have, like:

Ahh okay; that's sort of what I was thinking. :) That sounds like a hard rp to run. Someone with lots of creativity could do it though.

Julieth, the revolution idea is basically an idea from the French Revolution- end the monarchy and start a republic. But the revolution was a time of great terror. People would be sent to court for being suspicious or even just rumors. They were put onto trial with very little evidence and it was a kangaroo court. Thousands were killed with the guillotine for no reason and with little evidence.

So if I did do this I would probably have peasants, people of Versailles (king, queen, etc.) and it would start out with uprisings or something and blossom into a full-blown revolution. But the king and queen don't have to die, things can go different ways.

RP contests will likely be quite a bit more structured than a freeform RP. I'm not really interested in creating any rules or structure for anything like that at the moment, so whether or not one must be in-character for the applications (if that's what you meant for RP every round) and whether or not there are formalized rounds (or just a post limit per day set by the person running the contest) I think is up to whoever's running at the moment. This is all very experimental so we'll see what works and what doesn't and once we see how things will play out, we'll likely have a little better idea of what a "normal" RP and RP contest will look like. :)

Regarding the high school RP... I'm not going to say specifically that any topics are off-limits. However, err... I think you guys are capable of more depth than any high school-themed RP could attain. I won't say you can't... but I really hope you don't. ;)

Thieves of Nova: I started this roleplay back in the younger years with a couple of internet friends and it kinda exploded. This was when I was pretty young and neopets was all the rage, so we used their roleplaying forum, then a guild, then we got a shiny forum up and we were independant. As I was a girl and the guys were pretty young, I never did get to be an admin, but I was there from the beginning and had one of the pre-eminent characters. The character I wrote from the perspective of was Vennessa (so original, right? but it worked), a girl who fell in love with Core, exiled prince and the Nova's underground's prince of theives. yadayadayada, she is actually a goddess (of passion--there are many ways to spin that, but it was basically a concoction of every type of passion there is). And the prince of Nova (we followed the younger version of monarchy saying that a prince wasn't a king till he was married, and yes, I know this was stupid) was Noku. (And yes, these names are so unique as well) For some reason, it got pretty popular, and we began to see mirror roleplays pop up often. Then it just died.... because only the three main characters chould actually carry a roleplay without using our egos to write.... the other eegits got mad when a character insulted their character. But, it was really fun.... yeah, that was a long rant. My bad?

Well, I don't intend to limit the scope of the roleplays and a lot of folks seem to like the idea, so you can go ahead and do a high school roleplay if you want. I'm thinking something with a little more depth and... maturity might be better, but if you guys wanna play it, I'm not gonna tell you that you can't. Just get yourself a good setting, think it out clearly... whoever is running it should have a solid idea for a first event or something to get everyone together and establish their characters... And remember that your characters are welcome to act however you want, but it'd better not be like high school OOC or I'll get the hose and start yelling for the damn kids to get offa my lawn. ;)

ceesims - Freeform roleplays are generally cooperatively-written stories, where everyone controls a character, and the whole thing may or may not be controlled (to varying degrees) by a GM (game master). Very creative, very fun. Check out the Absences RP that's under way in this forum for an idea of how that kinda thing goes.

Well the vampire roleplay idea is fantastic - just feeds my minor obsession with vamps :D Can't wait for us to start.

I love the idea of some kind of futuristic science based RP. Although I'm not really into much Star Trek/Wars so I would prefer a novel idea. Sci-fi/fantasy is always good fun. I'd be open to the Steampunk one depending on the plot.

A sily Sim RP sounds like it would be great fun. I have several Sims that would be perfect for it and it could lead to a lot of open-ended possibilities for writing.

A horror, dark fantasy one would be interested. I especially like survivalist styles (think Silent Hill etc.) but I'd need to watch that I didn't RP a bit 18+.

I agree a list would be useful (perhaps at the begining of a thread or as a sticky) with the ones already in progress highlighted in some way. I'm not sure if this is possible - sounds a lot of work to maintain?

PerplexinglyMe - I was thinking something for the silly sim RP that really embraces the ridiculousness of certain aspects of the game. Everyone plays as a sim, but really AS a sim - takes half an hour to cook a turkey, people spin around to change and have babies, occasional puddles left by visitors in your living room, etc.

I've got two ideas:

-A RP where everyone has to write a comedy skit, and for each round you'll have to do a certain kind of skit, like for example round 1 everyone has to make fun of a horror film.

-An RP based on survivor, there will be challenges and clues, and whoever solves them first gets the bonuses (food, immunity from being voted off, etc.)

I posted a survivor RP but nobody was interested (of course I got impatience and deleted it after one day) and I need to re-write it. I'm thinking of making it a sim RP, you'll be RPing but also taking in-game pictures. You could earn points for winning challenges, AND for putting together a good sim picture. What do you all think?

*edit* Oh, and also one of the reasons I want to make it where it is partly judged by picture taking is because I'm more experianced when it comes to sim pictures, I'm still new to RPing.

Try some of those great picture and photoshopping tutorials, and practise often, it's really not that hard when you get used to it. And be patience when taking your pictures, and I've found that photoshopping your pictures can help give the illution of proffesionalness. Plus, the contest won't be completely based on picture taking, that's only part of it.

And sure, I guess we could do without the -photoshopped- pictures. But I still would like to make it an RP in the sim contests section, which requiers pictures. I can make it a rule that nobody can use photoshop, but you'll still have to take in-game pictures. I'm thinking for round 1 you could design a shelter, and then the judges will vote for which one is most unique. Or maybe just take pictures of what your sim is doing in your RP/story.

Okay, I've put together the intro for the contest. It will also include a somwhat long story about how everyone got shipwrecked on an island, but you'll have to wait until the contest gets submitted and accepted before you can read that part. Here is the important parts, please tell me what you think and if there's anything that should be improved.

Welcome to season 1 of [insert contest title here]! This is a RP/Sims contest, and you will be assigned certain tasks for each round. For some rounds there will be a task or tasks that everyone will have to do for the contest, some will require everyone to design a shelter, etc. Some rounds will require everyone to do separate tasks, which means in that case you will be assigned the task by me. There may also be bonus rounds which will be optional but if chosen to be played will add extra points to your score. The tasks will be various sim related tasks, along with writing RP's. This contest is NOT based on beauty at all, so make whatever sim you want, they must be human, however.

Everyone will start out with a food/water supply of 20. After each round I will subtract -2 from your food inventory, if you run out you will be forced to leave the island. You can earn more food two ways, playing in bonus rounds, or winning a cooking pan and cooking pot. If you have cooking pots and pans you will automatically get +3 added to your food inventory each round, because you'll be able to cook food and boil water!

Winning will be based on your total score in the end, whoever earns the most points wins. Whoever has the lowest score will get eliminated every other round, unless someone drops out or fails to submit their tasks for that round, which in that case would mean they would get eliminated instead.

Um...ok... Hi everyone. I was just thinking about making a new RP; however, I would like some opinions first.

Has anyone ever played ICO? :O Because, this would be something to that effect. I haven't ironed out every detail, but... anyway this is something like what I was thinking:

A group of people would come to a large castle (by force), where a queen (or king) presides. Their goal would be to escape this seemingly inescapable fortress by solving riddles, deciphering puzzles, and fleeing from indestructible creatures called Shadows along the way.

That isn't really everything, but I just wanted to keep it as short and simple as possible. Stupid idea?

A lot of people here have shown interest in a Wild West type of role play. I just wanted to ask if anyone has one they're working on? I have some inspiration at the moment, but didn't want to go through all the trouble of figuring it out just to have someone beat me to it. So anyone working on one already? Or shall I keep planning?

Another question, seems some of the roleplays are having a hard time keeping the people they have. What's the general consensus on if this board could support another rp?

I agree that there could be more. I tend to just go for ones i know will keep my interest for a while so if more like that come up I'd probably join until I was at writing capacity. But real life is always going to get in the way for people so you always expect some drop outs once an RP starts.

That's my working intro. I was thinking about it being a bistro that you have to make famous. And for the rounds you have to submit or make a recipe with ingredients you have at the ready. then each dish gets rated and the average is the new Bistro rating.
