That's easy enough to check yourself: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Requirements

Technically, no. It's not listed on any of the supported lists.

Well, no, it won't mess up your computer. It just may not work with the game, or may not work perfectly... but that's a pretty new card (I found reviews from June of last year so that's relatively new), so it'll probably work okay, just can't guarantee it. You should definitely check the supported list before buying a new card next time. ;)

Why not choose ATI HD 3850 instead?

I would not worry about it. The chances are, 99%, it will work. The card came out after Sims 2 so EA may not tested the card but it should work. If there are problems then it will most likely to be a driver problem. It will not mess up your computer.

People upgrade their graphics cards regularly and can still play their older games with it. I certainly do.

It should work. I know people with that card who report no problems. The card itself is a good card. Comparable to the Nvidia 8600GT, but a bit slower.
