Wiki Editing:
Have you contributed to Wikipedia or another wiki? Do you know HTML, BBCode, or similar?
Do you enjoy the interesting facts and figures and details of gameplay of TS2/TS3?
Do you have extra time on your hands and wouldn't mind using some of it to do something to add to this site?
We need...
We are looking for folks who would like to help contribute to the wiki, specifically the Gameplay Guides sections. Basically, building our own guide to gameplay (similar to the Prima Guides) available free online to anyone.
For example, see: Sims 3 Gardening (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Gardening).
Charts of useful data, images/icons, helpful tips, etc.
Okay, sign me up!
Still interested? Great! Here's how to get started:
1. Create a wiki user account (http://www.sims2wiki.info/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin).
2. Come back to this thread and post letting us know what name you registered under.
3. Decide what area you would like to work on. Here are the ones we already have (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Gameplay_Guides) - those existing ones may need more work, so you can either add to an existing one, or create a new one. See here (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Help:Contents) for editing help and tips. Of course, you can ask for help here, or come find me or HP in chat for help too.
Suggestions for sections:
Fishing - different fish, their values, and what bait works for what fish.
Gems - Gem types, cuts, values, how many gems you have to cut before getting new cuts
Moodlets - Images for each moodlet, times/conditions, in-game descriptions, requirements
Guitar - Songs, and which are buyable
Books - Name and values of all the books
Ghosts - Ghost colours and how to get a playable ghost
Careers - Career levels and pay
Traits - More info on what interactions and options each trait has
Lifetime Rewards - A list of all of them and what they do
Paintings - Pricing, types, etc.
Pregnancy, baby gender, and fertility
Novels
Upgrades
Logic Skill
Rabbit holes
Make sure to copy the formatting from existing sections and to put the header and footer!
4. Be accurate! While some errors here and there are inevitable, please don't put anything that's sheer speculation or "I heard somewhere" type stuff. If you're capable of looking at the game's code or XML tuning, that's best - if you can't, or aren't sure of the facts, work on a section you can be sure of!
5. Ask for help if you need it! We're happy to provide assistance if you need any help or guidance!
Thanks, and have fun!

I registered as Ashleigh825, same username as here. ;)
I'd like to do moodlets, though of course I'd love some help with that, since there are so many of them and certain ones only appear for sims with certain traits.

On another note:
I have the XML file of all the moodlets in a text document. The name was "Buffs" instead of "Moodlets". I would convert them but after looking at the size of the list it's too much to go through. It contains the length of the moodlet, the name, and the effect it has on the sim. If anyone wants this file, send me a PM and I will send you the file.

I have a question... I see that I think it may have been Nick Hawelu, made this entry on the Sims3 cheats section of the wiki.
http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Cheats
EditInCAS
A cheat removed from the game which allowed the player to send the active sim back into the Create-A-Sim mode. This allowed you to edit the sim as if you were creating when you started the game. This cheat and other cheats previously removed from the base game are available for use with AwesomeMod by Pescado.
Do we want cheats here that are not part of the game but are part of the awesome mod? Does this cheat work without Awesome mod? Do we want to open an awesome mod cheat section or refer people to MATY on this one? (My guess is refer to MATY.)
Official response requested. :report:

I have signed up as MogHughson (same as here). I'm not a Sims 3 user, but since you also said you wanted Sims 2 stuff updated, I have wanted to add modding stuff from a new modder's perspective for a while. I've started with a page here SimPE Resource Editing which shows the style I write in and ends with a paragraph of my intentions. I plan to link it to maybe this page ModdingTheGame once I have actually done anything that I say I'm going to do. I post this here so you have the chance to stop me and say, "no that's not what we're after" before I get really stuck in :)
So I've done two resources tied together to show what I mean BCON and TRCN. In both cases the new version from SimPE perspective links to old file format version and back again. Hope you like - I'll really stop for tonight now - do some more tomorrow.

HystericalParoxysm
9th Jul 2009, 12:06 AM
To be honest, I would prefer if, for right now, discussion be kept to this thread. There's a lot of different talk pages and I think it's probably easiest to keep things right here. :)
porky - I would prefer unofficial/removed cheats to have their own section with a brief mention rather than being part of the main cheats list. Awesomemod adds a bajillion cheats - could have a link to its page rather than trying to maintain that ever-changing list.

I registered as "Jello" without the quotes :) I can code in HTML and a little (very little) CSS, but that's it. But I have a question: is it TS2 that needs help, or TS3?
I could do hidden skills for TS2 if it's not done (couldn't find it, but sometimes I'm blind) like dance, or even just skills in general.
EDIT: I began skills, here is the link: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Skills#Introduction

Hi just a little Tip. When sims play guitar they tend to go to weird places like the bathroom or outside the house. This is because they need space to play confortably. Also, one of the best places to play for tips is close to the book shop, there's always enough public there =)

Charisa1114
10th Jul 2009, 05:12 AM
I joined as Charisa1114, same as here. I bought The Sims 3 Game Guide Collector's Edition. There is all kinds of stuff in there that I learned so I'm sure I could contribute quite a bit, but I have no idea how to make a page. I have never played around with HTML. I can add stuff in here and there where it is lacking. I haven't looked over the site too much yet, but I noticed that in the Career section the tones for each career are listed, but not the effect of each tone. I could add on stuff like that.
Another possible category is the opportunities that come up. There are three different types skill, job, and special. I have all the info if someone would want to help design the page, or point me towards a tutorial :)
Delphy
10th Jul 2009, 05:18 AM
Charisa1114, to add a page, you can simply type the title that you want into the Search box on the left. This will then give you the option to Edit this page, which will create it.
Or you can just link to it with [[ ]] and then clicking on that will let you make that new page.
Charisa1114
10th Jul 2009, 05:47 AM
Could I just copy the code from a page that would look similar and then just edit the info? I think I could manage that to do a page for opportunities.
Delphy
10th Jul 2009, 05:51 AM
Yes, that would work fine. Most of the wiki is done via copying code off another page. :)

Well, for an example, click Edit on one of the Hair Gallery pages:
http://www.sims2wiki.info/index.php?title=Hair_Gallery/Female_Hair_All&action=edit
It's a table similar to the ones we're doing on the gameplay guides, but instead of having all the gobbledygook for every row... i.e:
|- style="vertical-align:top;width="100%" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="5" class="MainPageBG"
| style="border:1px solid #b3decf;background-color:#f5ffff;color:#000" |
... it just uses a template, {{HairGalleryRow}} to accomplish all of the style stuff, and then each line gets plugged in after that. It's not really -necessary- but it does make things a lot neater and cleaner.
HugeLunatic
10th Jul 2009, 01:46 PM
Oh, that makes lots of sense. You can change most of the color/border/etc formatting in one place then. There shall be uniformity.

Yep! I'm gonna go ahead and work on this now and see if I can get it working. I notice there's a couple different types of tables going (the duller green ones vs the brighter blue and green ones) etc. - I'll try to set it up so we can do header rows and a leading row that's a bit different too if we so choose. Uniformity, but flexibility. Huzzah! *dives into wiki code and readies herself to tear her hair out*

RE: the tables, if you take a look at the top one here:
http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Fishing
You'll see how the formatting is done as neat, clean little styles (THANKS DELPHY!) rather than large amounts of blah as they were before. This should make editing tables a little nicer on the eyes.
If someone could convert any other existing tables to that format, that would be great. I'll start working on some of them, and clean up some of the other pages so they're neat and tidy. :)

The first table which has no line? I'm guessing since that does have clean code without all the styles attached to each line. :)

skibby312 - I deleted the pregnancy page you made since we already had one listed on the Gameplay Guides page. I incorporated what details we didn't have already that were in your article. Make sure to check the list on the Gameplay Guides page before making new articles. :)

Please do not copy straight from the Prima Guide! At least one page has had data that looks like it comes right outta the Prima Guide. While you -can- use some of the info in the Prima Guide as a starting point, please do not c&p directly or with minor changes. While facts cannot be copyrighted, the expression of them can be, and we don't want to have issues with copyright. Also please be aware that the Prima Guides are often error-riddled and incorrect.

Hi, we have a discussion going on how to organize the cheat section. Does management want a strict alphabetized list of all cheats or perhaps prefer the cheats be divided into functional categories, i.e. build/buy, sims, careers, etc? We've had 3 or more people in there lately doing all kinds of things. I alphabetized each section and added some stuff.

Something else I just thought of that should probably be listed somewhere is something about the classes you can take for skills. I also couldn't find a link for the culinary Career path. There is one stupid book for that career. It is Secrets of The Master Chef. They either should have added more books for this career or left them off all together. Learning specific recipies is also in the culinary career path, so if you want to through the one lone book with them I could just link to the recipies. :)
Also, I don't remember any reading for the skill or special opportunities. I think there are only books for the Career ones.

Interest: filling moodlets section and complementing information
I've been filling missing information in the moodlets section and there's a little problem with duration which is that some mood's duration increases until a max value or until it becomes another mood.
I was thinking to give this mood's duration a little "<" symbol, so Entertained mood for example will read like this:
Entertained +25 Mood < 6 hours
Anyone supports this or has a better idea?

Cool just one las question, in the duration of variable moodlets one should put the highest duration right?
Oh and, where can I find the missing icons? Is there a specific file in the game folder?
Delphy
11th Jul 2009, 11:21 PM
For the variable moodlets why not put in the min to max? ie (1 to 4 hours).
HystericalParoxysm
11th Jul 2009, 11:23 PM
Most of the moodlet icons have come from gameplay itself. As I play, I screenshot new moodlets. When I get a bunch of them, I transcribe the text, reasons, and crop and upload the images. It's tedious that way, but it works. There's no real good way I've seen to get the missing moodlet icons - they are in the game's textures but the backgrounds are transparent (they're not on the coloured green/blue/red backgrounds as they are in-game) and there's no real way of telling what's what.
squall117
11th Jul 2009, 11:57 PM
Delphy: All the variable moodlets I've found have a minumun of 1 minute and continue to grow if you don't do anything to avoid it. So I guess it wold look good lie "max 6 hours"?
HP: Aww I won't be able to help with icon, for some reason my screenshots look VERY dark, the only way to make them look good would be using normal in-game pictures but the UI won't appear. =/

squall - Are you playing windowed or full screen, and how are you taking your pics? I think the dark pics is an issue with taking pics when full screened using print screen. I've seen a lot of folks with that issue but mine have always been fine since I play windowed.

I removed the "Strained" and "Stressed Out" moodlets from the Work section and placed them in the Fun Section because this moodlets are obtained by simply getting a low fun level, so a can can get them even if it's unempolyed.
I also started looking for the missing icons, will upload some after I take them from the sreenshots =)

"The option to write Children's Books appeared after writing the first Fiction Novel. Unsure of what skill level this requires (Sim was at 10)."
I believe it's related something else than the skill level. I have a sim who written all kinds of novels and has the skill at lvl 10 and still doesn't have this option. He also has all the skill challenges and has read all the novels available at the store. He has a daughter by the way, so there must be something missing... Perhaps it's related to the Childish trait? I'll try to make some testing here =)

I believe, not 100% sure, that the sim has to have a level 6 painting skill to write a children's book.

Childrens' books are supposed to be unlocked at level 3, but you do have to have a painting skill of 6 before you can write them. I think the only other 2 that are effected by something other than writing is if your sim has the good sense of humor trait they can write humor books earlier, same with hopeless romantics they can write romances early too.

My sim did have the painting skill as well when I found that, was leveling multiple skills as she was going to be in law enforcement. I just didn't attempt to write any novels until I had max skill levels. I don't think I have tried writing a non-fiction to see if any other options come up. I am going to see if I can find the right code in xml to find out. It's very possible traits are related as well, since I found a bunch of if/then in the xml related to traits.
I have all the text for all challenges per skill, just haven't added since I don't have much else to put there. Except for a small amount of info about Painting, just have to write in a readable format. =)
Edit: I have found what I needed in the XML and I will update later.

Hmm I think someone should set a standard for moodlet icons' size, cause right now they are of multiple sizes and it doesn't look pretty good. I'll say that 44 x 44 pixels looks pretty good in my opinion. I also offer myself to update all the icons to fit in a standard.

Plum - Wow, 1580? I knew there was a lot but wasn't aware of THAT many.
Maybe just do the regular version paintings (the normal ones painted by sims without special traits related to paintings) and then have one particular one that has all the versions as a comparison of what the styles look like.
squall117 - You don't have to actually resize anything yourself. Just put it on the wiki tag. So like: [[Image:Moodlet.jpg|44x44px]]
Elizabella - Sims 2 and Sims 3 both. :)
Also, RE: paintings, has anyone checked the painting guide I linked on MATY? I know they compiled a lot of info looking at the XMLs - I don't know if that helps with what ya'll are sorting out but it might be useful, and they're reliable when it comes to info.

Plum

Plum - Wow, 1580? I knew there was a lot but wasn't aware of THAT many.
There are 158 basic paintings, then there are nine variations of each of those depending on a Sim's traits (for example, an evil Sim will paint the same thing, but it'll be red--cute concept, albeit too far reaching to be properly executed considering they probably put one person in charge of making these 1580 paintings).
It'd probably be more efficient to post the 158 basic paintings, and then one example of the way the traits affect the paintings (since it's the same way every time, like for the "genius" trait they just ran every painting through Photoshop's stain glass filter). If you even want to go that far, that is. Even 158 is kind of a lot, but they're small.
I'll start putting something together tomorrow.
ETA: Okay, the Paintings guide now contains all the information I currently have, except for Still Lifes, which I'll do later. There are a few facts missing that I know exist but don't know the details of, but I hope there are no errors at least. I'm also considering creating a gallery of the 158 basic paintings, but that would take awhile and isn't urgent.
I... think that's it. I feel like I'm forgetting something. *shrug* Please let me know if anyone has any feedback. It's my first Wiki page! The extent of my Wiki editing before this was adding a few Care Bears to the Wiki page for them. xD

Look in Object Workshop. Among all the normal objects that are cloneable there are also some things that you wouldn't expect to see. One of them is careers.
It's been a while since I've done it, but I think after the list opens after you have started it you will be able to click a + mark next to a heading like "Miscellaneous" or "Unknown" and find an entry for something like "Sim Data".
That was asked in How To at the SimPe site; let me see if I can find it again.
Ok, it was asked several times.....
That won't help for cloning though. Careers and schools can be found in OW under Other|SimType
She also noted that the window sometimes opens *under* everything else and you need to minimize everything to get to it.

Elizabella, I've edited the Political and put it in a table. You can just copy that one for the rest.
I did use the same formatting (colors and such) from TS3, so if an admin can verify that that is ok. Otherwise if there is another class that could be applied to it instead?

Curse I'm still screwing it up. Could you please put my short tale of requirementss into a table so I can see what Idid wrong. It willbe 5 rows and 11 columns.

11 columns might be too big. I think the only parts I left out were the free days, because it's fairly obvious what those are based on the work days. And the job level descriptions, which doesn't seem necessary.
I did just add below the table a placeholder for carpool and clothing, not sure how important either of those are though.
I'm not sure what you want me to list for you, because you can copy the existing table I put for Politics and just change the data part. The ! or | are cells in the table, the |- denotes the end of a row. The ! is a header and should only be used for the first row header and the first cell in each row, it bolds and centers it.

I finished the painting guide today. I changed the "variations" section to show how many paintings are available per level by canvas size, and did the entire "still-lifes" section.
There is only one thing missing (that I know of, obviously): I don't know exactly how the "Master Painter achievement" affects a painting's value. It's description says that it does, but I was unable to find that information anywhere.
Other than that it should be done.

Any feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Yes! Finally finished my first career. I dropped the uniform and car information, I figured it wasn't really worth it. If a mod wants me to add it back I will since I think I finally figured out the tables.
I couldn't get the spacing to work quite right on the skills field so if somebody could take a look at that I'd appreciate it, otherwise I think I have my template for the rest of the careers.
On sort of a political note (sorry bad pun coming up) I see that "Andrea" started this page but I don't know who she is and she never came back it. Do you think it's ok if I redo the politics section?

You can read that every time you edit a page =)

Sorry I've got another question *blush* do you know where to find the bonuses and work days in SimPE?

If you clone the careers you can open them in the career editor and find them there. There's probably another way to do it as well, but I prefer to use the career editor to read them.
Promotion bonuses are two days pay at the new salary, and work days (and hours) are listed in the career.

Registered with the same name here. I'd like to help too! Traits are what I'm best at. As soon as I know a bit more I'll contribute.

I'd like to help but I'm no good at finding information. Plus I procrastinate alot. And I mean ALOT! So I probably wouldn't be much help. On my own, it would probably take me a year to get half of a page done. lol I think that everyone here has it covered anyway's.

Do what I've been doing: Keep reading this thread. And the wiki. And other forums. And then mentioning the wiki at appropriate times.
Have you noticed how long the wiki has actually been around? And how long it has taken to get this much attention? It needs publicity as much as it needs people typing entries.

Hey all, I signed up as ExtraMedium. I wanted to write about how much money you start with when you create a family. For example if you start with one YA, you get 16k, and every other YA after that, you add 2k. Starting with an Adult, you get 18k, etc. I don't know if that's already on the Wiki. I want to write this for myself mostly because whenever I build houses I want to know who I'm building for and how much I can spend on it before I get them to move in because it actually loses value after you build it which saves money. Instead of starting a family, moving them onto an empty lot, then building them a house.
-Edit-
Has anyone killed their sim of food poisoning yet?

How can you tell the work days? They just seem to be in code to me?

I thought we were talking about ts2? If you look at them in the career editor in SimPe, don't they show the work days and hours?

It means that you are now officialy a "Creator" according to Site Rules. See the Artist`s Palette under your title? That appeared at the same time.

Is there a way to change the title of an article. I'm sure it seems stupid but instead of
THe Sims 2 FreeTime I think it should reference Hobbies but I can't seem to find how to do it.

Elizabella, all of your mini-descriptions are direct quotes without credit. You need to please either come up with your own descriptions, or give credit and make it clear you are quoting. Also, I've fixed some grammatical things throughout the article. I don't know how to change the title. Thanks for your hard work :)

Elizabella:
I'm sorry I didn't get back sooner, but I just got Sims 3.
Under Tools Open the Bidous Career Editor. Then look at each career with it. You will see a screen that looks like this.:
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2880/careereditor.th.jpg (http://img401.imageshack.us/i/careereditor.jpg/)
As you can see, all the job hours and work days are listed in English in the chart when you use Bidou's career editor. You just have to open the (cloned) career in SimPe before you open the editor.

Oh I hadn't checked my grammar and credit and such yet, I'm still missing the sewing, fishing, pottering (I know that isn't a word, I just felt like typing it)
I was going to say in the credits that all descriptions were from the Sims Free Time game with thanks to SimsPE. Do you think that would be sufficient?
