View Full Version : Sugar Rush?

I've always thought to myself that when eating certain foods (like Ice Cream for example), a sim should get a sugar rush moodlet.

Well, I was poking through the XML files just now, and there IS coding in there for a Sugar Rush moodlet! It's tuned to double your fun gain while you have it, but that's all. No indication of how long it lasts or what you get it from. Has anyone seen this?

Nope. Sounds like a unused feature to me though. Does not surprise me. A lot of game devs tend to do this with hidden unused code and other hidden features.

Never experienced it before. I will stuff my sim with cookies when I get home and see what happens!

Yep, seen it in-game. You get it from drinking at the bar.

Thanks, HP.

Ahh... hence the "twice as fun" aspect of it. It's not a "sugar rush"... just being "under the influence"

lol thanks HP

I'dve thought it'd be too similar to the caffiene buzz/crash moodlet. ::shrug::

Hmmm where did you find this xml file? I didn't even know TS3 had them or uses them. O_O

TS3 uses xml extensively, but only a couple of files are hanging around loose. And those are uninteresting. The juicy xml is packed inside The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Gameplay\GameplayData.package.

Here's a tutorial on creating tuning mods that will also help you if you just want to read the xml: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorial:Sims_3_XML_Tuning_Modding

So? In real life we can get both caffeine rushes and sugar rushes. Not that TS3 is the pinnacle of realism or anything, I just don't see a problem with it. :) My view of what "Sugar Rush" would be was a bit different though... imagine kids running wild through the house, maybe with a chance to fall and hurt themselves. I imagine the "Sleep" interaction would also be unavailable.

That is a good point. I guess mine was that too many moodlets with essentially the same effect would be a little redundant and clutter the game. But I hadn't thought of it being applied to kids. After all, something tells me child Sims can't drink cappuccinos. ;)

Kids can't drink from the bar either lol

@blondynka: I said this was what my view of what the Sugar Rush WOULD be. As in, my expectations, or what I'd have programmed it into the game to result in. Not "this is what I think should happen when kids drink from the bar."

Aya... I know. My point (not very clear, sorry) is that neither one of these cool moodlets applies to children, and I think your interpretation of Sugar Rush is much more realistic. I feel like kids got the short end of the stick in this game.

The real life issues with kids and junk food and obesity and whatnot in this country probably is what made EA not apply this stuff to kids. Stranger things have happened.

@Killmur, that wouldn't surprise me one bit. Especially since our country is also ready to take up arms whenever something even remotely objectionable crops up. There's still controversy (on these boards even!) over the portrayal of gay relationships and "occult" themes in Sims titles.

Perhaps we shall rename our once great country to USOS(United States of Over Sensitivity). Anyways back on topic perhaps someone can mod the little kiddies in TS3 so they DO benefit from the nice little sugar rushes and what not.

I like that idea, Killmur. And then we could coat all of our American flags with bubble wrap to illustrate all of our physical and emotional insulation. :D

On topic, maybe the "s" word is the trigger, what with sugar's link to weight. Call it something more PC than sugar rush.

How on earth do you make a sugar rush PC? Haha. You ate sugar, and you got an energy rush from it. "Granulated Carbohydrate Side-Effect?" How stupid would that be....

Killmur

"Granulated Carbohydrate Side-Effect: Provides a temporary speed boost to all activity based performances. Lasts for 30 seconds. Side effect leads to INSTANT weight gain and muscle loss!"

Yea it's lame but I tried to come up with some kind of description as to what a PC version would be like.

Or here's an idea, if calling a drink "soda" or "juice" is too close to the real world, why not give it another name? "+20 boost from drinking Flim-Flam(tm)!"

They did the same idea with "Woo Hoo"....

you know, i'd say if sugar rush was used, it should KILL your energy.

Plus put thy sim in a comatose AND instantly make thy sim gain weight.

I equated it to the caffeine boost for that reason, though I didn't read the OP as well as I should've. IMO, it would be roughly the same effect--a buzz followed by a crash.

One of my Sim kids got it from drinking juice. So it isn't just for adults, and it isn't just a lame term for "drunk". Besides, if they were REALLY concerned about childhood obesity, they'd have ways for the kids to work out (the only way I know is through the stereo), they wouldn't be allowed sugary stuff (come on, even the juice is sugary!) and they wouldn't have the option to make fat kids in CAS. I really, really doubt EA cares all that much about the issue...only enough to keep whinging parents off their backs who bought their young children a 'teen' rated game.

I'd be interested to know what kind of traits that kid had. My sim kids drink juice all the time (as in, "Have Quick Meal... > Juice") and never get a Sugar Rush at all. :(

If you're talking about the "juice" at the "juice bar" in Riverview, well... the game makes no distinction from a real bar and a juice bar, so it's still a lame term for drunk. :)

No, I don't think I've ever bothered to have a Sim eat out. I definitely haven't had any kids eat out. Tbh, I can't remember which child got it, I make families with a LOT of kids, however I noticed it because I'd never seen it before, and I know she'd just had a juice. I do agree, however, that it possibly does tie into traits.
