If I'm not mistaken, a teen sim will run away if their relationship with a family member is too low. Now I wonder how low it should be, because I once tried to make my sim run away  , but until the relationship with his parent is -100, he didn't run away. So is it because, for some reason, it's not low enough, or is there some sort of glitch?

Were there other family members? The relationship with all family members has to be low to make the teen running away.

^Yup. I usually make the teen despise their parents and either indifferent (0,0 rels) to the sibls, or slight dislike. And it can happen at any moment. I've had teens get off the bus, or jump off the toilet exclaiming they can't take it anymore xD

From my experience, a teen Sim should have very negative relationship with the whole household, a neutral relationship won't count, even if it's with only one member of the family and the teen is totally disgusted with the others. To make it work for 100%, make your teen to pull pranks on all Sims in the family (once they already are furious with their relatives), annoy them, or start fights. Once it's over, your teen will proclaim he/she can't take it anymore and run away.
If this doesn't happen, then maybe there's some mod that prevents it and you have it downloaded?

From my experience, the teen must have a very low relationship with their parents. Relationship with siblings don't appear to count.
Ripp ran away from home in my game. He had a negative relationship with his father,General Buzz and his brother Tank, but he was best friends with his younger brother Buck.

@Kohaku: Parents only? Because my sim has only one parent while the other family member is a sibling to the parent. Or does that mean the teen has to have bad relationship with every adult in the family/household?

Once I made a family with a father and two daughters (child/teen) I wanted the teen to run away and set the relationship to her father to -50/-50, but she had a good relationship to her sister and didn't run away. I played the same scenario with a father and one daughter and the teen was gone as soon as I set the relationship.
As I know the relationship to all family members counts for this.

I believe it may include other adults too. I had a teen living alone and moved in an adult she didn't know with the teleporter shrub and she(the teen) immediately ran away. So running away is apparently triggered by poor relationships with the households adults.

They just get a little icon on their picture, and a memory. You can call the police and report that they ran away, and it gives a higher chance that they will be found, otherwise they just return the day before they age up.

Even if the aging system is turned of?

I've never had that happen to me before (must be quite rare, I've played two legacies and over thirty different families, all with kids), so here's my guess:

If the teen runs away, I would think they're not considered part of the family anymore. They would be like an NPC... so they should still come back the day before they age up.

By the way, does the Lifetime relationship have to be -100 as well? I finally got my teen have a -100 relationship with all the household members, but he still didn't run away.
