View Full Version : Have you encountered any problems with CC yet?

Just want to discuss, not ask for help so I think this belongs in the discussion forum.
In all of Sims 2, I never encountered a single problem with CC crashing my game. I have now twice downloaded CC that has crashed my game. I'm reluctant to download CC at all, especially since I'm such a CC junkie. It's very time consuming to single out which item is causing the issue.
Has this happened with you?
Also, is there one type of CC more likely to be corrupt than another? (hair versus paintings, etc)

1.Wrong section
2. I prefer to have some CC than tons of corrupt CC. It's up to you, but I don't go through technical difficulties much.

I do not believe this is in the wrong section, as there can be plenty of discussion upon this topic. To answer your inquiry, if the game is crashing at the first loading screen, then it is not CC to blame but the caching system. You simply have to keep reloading your game, and it will run after a few attempts. Happens to us all on occasion, including myself.

Sadly i have had no problems with the sims 3 at all. Not even with custom content. :(

Various bits of faulty cc can cause crashes when you are in game, and don't ignore textures. (there is a thread on page 4 - Beware of faulty textures). I had one in a downloaded house, it created havoc when trying to redecorate, came up with invalid pattern and locked up create a style. (the creator did trace the problem and fixed it). But I had moved the family to another house taking the furniture etc with them, some items were by then corrupted and it crashed the game when I tried to use them, took a while to sort out. So the best way is to put downloads in in small chunks then if you have a problem you know the likely culprits. Then you can delete them, but remember to delete your cache files or they will still be there.

I've had a few problems but nothing major and nothing that crashed my game. Only thing that's done that for me are core mods.

Luckily things have gone alright for me, I think this is down to the great site that is my sims 3 blog.

The most problems I've had with crashes regarding CC would be downloaded Sims from the Exchange. And I had a problem with one article of clothing and if I could remember what it was and where it came from I'd tell you, but unfortunately I don't recall.
I will tell you I've had noticed something new I never saw before: a clothing mesh that made the clothes seem to melt into the sim. This is true of a long dress with leggings I got from RoseSims2 site. I exited from CAS immediately and deleted it from my Mods/Packages folder the instant I saw the sleeves and part of the dress melt into my slender sim's body. So it was not even an issue of the dress not fitting a certain body morph. I think the dress may have been a TS2 to TS3 conversion. I am very careful about those whether it is hair or clothes because I've seen some real strangeness going on with converted hair. I can imagine converting clothes may start posing some even uglier wierdness if it's not done carefully. Thank goodness for the blogs where other users review and report on problems for different cc. I'm starting to read blogs first and then if an item gets good reviews, I'll download it.
I have had my own cc go bad on me, too. I saved a hair color pattern in CAS and now it simply stopped working. I click on it and it won't apply to the Sim's hair. No crashes from it, yet, but I can't color hair with it.
I've had build items, including one featured item here on MTS crash my SIMs 2 game before. So Sims2 was not resistant to cc-induced problems. It's just now, with it being such a mature product, a lot of trouble-making cc has been weeded out of circulation or people got better at trouble-shooting or stabilizing their games. Sims3 is a new frontier.

I cannot get any of my CC to work unless it is going straight to the sims 3 launcher. i am getting sooo frustrated. I installed the helper monkey, i am putting the CC in the right area (program files NOT downloads) and I created the correct folders (mods and then packages.) i don't know what is going wrong but I am getting very frustrated!! :(

Creative Mommy, if you have World Adventures there are some changes to where things need to go now. I don't know the details because I'm staying away from package file cc and using only launcher installed items for now. World Adventures can slow down too much with the package files going in the ProgramFiles/Mods/Packages folder.
But if you are talking about just the base game, make sure you put the resource.cfg file in the right place and be sure to use the one from here because some older versions aren't set up to let you use subfolders. Maybe it's possible Helper Monkey no longer works with the latest patches? I never used Helper Monkey so I can't be of help to you, sorry. I always put things in myself manually once I set up the install framework exactly like MTS' help section told me to.

No problems yet, I took out all the mods etc and reinstalled the game before getting WA so I don't know if that played a part in it. I've downloaded some mods which are or should be, updated for WA. All I need to do now is to figure out how to install them without causing crashes.

A few problems. But the CC in the Sims 2 was by far worse for me. Most likely since i used huge game changing mods that conflicted with each-other. Anyway, for the most part it's running very smooth, although I have had some trouble with TS3 Workshop.

I haven't had any major problems with custom content so far. Only having hacks that are out of date with the newer patches but thats normal.

The only problems I've had in TS3 with downloads are core mods, but I haven't exactly gone wild on downloading CC yet, so I expect it's only a matter of time. It happened once in TS2 and it took ages to work out the offending file because I didn't organize downloads properly then. I've learnt my lesson now though!

I have downloaded right: 5.401 Custom Content items into my game, divided into 9 folders.
My game runs fine, without problems.
Sources of CC are 3 sites: Mod The Sims, The Sims Resource, Peggy Zone.
Those 3 sites are the most reliable ones. I found no corrupted CC on them.

My only problem so far has been that my game takes 15 minutes to load the second loading screen (after you click new game or load your game).
It's only been happening since the latest patch and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game so I can only assume it's the CC causing it. Really not sure though.
It's annoying because I tend to spend my spare time making sims and CAS runs really, really slowly.
I haven't had CC crash my game... yet.

Until patch 1.6/1.7 I have no problems with CC ever in the sims 3; after it was only the plants I had downloaded that caused a problem and except for that its always been fine. Either I download only the right CC, or I'm just really lucky :) Probably both.
I have no lagging and nice and fast loading times (game in under 1 minute, save game in under 2 minutes). I think I have around 300-500 mb of CC, which I know isn't that much; I have no clue what it would be like if I had twice the amount.
