View Full Version : Faylen's Clothing Recolor Tutorial Part 3: Adding Textures

Once you've gotten the hang of recoloring, it's fun to add new textures to
your Sims' clothes. Here's another step-by-step for all you techno-Turnips out there, from the Turnip Queen. Again, it's a Microsoft Word document so
you can print it out.

NOTE: I've added a tutorial with a different method of adding shadows and highlights here: How to Add Shadows and Highlights (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?p=1116264#post1116264)

Thank you. I managed to change texture on a dress. I now think I will be able to understand a tutorial for a smocked dress. Now, anyone know how to 'make' lace look seethrough.

Also thanks for the other tutorials which I have now downloaded as well. My weekend will be at the computer, again.

Can I add if you want fabric swatch pictures, go to www.fabric.com? I actually order my (real world) fabric from them and they have a lot of great pictures. I am not sure how great they are for skinning, but they have a lot of choices. Hope this helps!

Faylen
18th Apr 2005, 02:11 PM
Fabric websites are great for textures, but they have to have nice, flat, undistorted swatches with a repeat of the pattern in the swatch. You might be suprised to find, too, that metal and plastics manufacturing sites have some interesting textures, as well! All you need to do is colorize!

If you want to search for textures, go to google.com and pick "image search". Type in stuff like "paisley swatch" or "plaid red" something that would indicate a print of a pattern, and start looking. Often, this will lead you to pages that have other useable textures as well.

Photoshop is an image editing software. It's on the pricey side, but you can look around for older versions on sale secondhand, or you cna check for other, less expensive programs. I believe some people like Gimp, which I understand is free, and can be downloaded from the web, but if you have questions on how to use it, I won't be able to help you there.

Well, lets just say, you COMPLETLEY lost me at step 19. Im lost. Very lost. In a huge maze. With man eating crocodiles chasing me. Any help?

I don't get the bit about the triangles. And how do you get the shading right? so i've done all the grayscale and brightness. I pasted in one sleeve shape, perfect, now how do i get it all to look all shadingy (<-- very technical terms, i know) without it all being one huge block colour?> How do i get the pattern to have all the same shadowy bits as the real pj top?

Faylen
24th Apr 2005, 09:13 PM
When you paste your texture, or paste into, it lays over your image completely. It's opaque. What you're doing after you've pasted your texture into each section of the outfit is reduce the opacity. If you click on the pictures online, or print out the tute, you'll see my lines and circles and arrows showing where that slider is on the right to adjust the opacity. When you reduce the opacity, the original shading actually shows through. You flatten the image, merging the texture and the grayscale image, then fix your color back up.

pinksalamander
25th Apr 2005, 07:51 AM
Ahh now i understand, (and i know about the opacity tool), but it goes weird colours. How to get get the colour back?

Faylen
25th Apr 2005, 11:03 PM
You know, tutorials for this stuff can get pretty involved - you should read through them a time or two and then still follow them as you go. . .You adjust your hue/saturation, and brightness/contrast (if necessary) to bring back the original color.

Huge huge thank you!

Without the tutorials here at MTS2..I would have never attempted to do these things.

Thanks to this..I made my first 2 retextures of clothing. I have known how to recolor for sometime but got bored with that rather easy just changing colors of stuff.

But this was great, I didn't know it could be so easy.

I found my own way of doing it that works best for me but I would have been lost without an idea of what direction to go.

My stuff is very amatuer and I will only do it for my own amusement but it is fun nonetheless and I can finally make some things myself that I haven't been able to find anywhere else.

I can't believe you actually sat down and made this tutorial, must've taken you hours if not days. You deserve high praise.

I was reading through the last tutorial how you do meshes....I sorta gave up real quick. But I read on a site where you can download simpe(?) and it said something about if you downloaded it, it could screw up the game.... a tutorial on how you download everything you need to do a mesh would be great. You've done a lot al ready, but if you have some time over....? :)

I'm so glad to see people learning to skin! Keep in mind that this is a jumping-off point. Many talented people are hand-painting, creating their own unique textures, doing work that really qualifies as art. I feel, though, that once you've become confident enough with the basics, you can feel more comfortable playing with your paint program and expanding your own repertoire.

Now, for the meshing - WDS Brianna's tutorial covers what you need to know and have to start. I'm just now starting to play with it myself, and if I think there's a need to expand on it (or dumb it down, hyuck, hyuck. . .) I'll do it, but for now it seems to have worked well for enough people that it should be the first place you go.

Faylen
18th May 2005, 02:22 AM
Each time you paste, or paste into, you create a new layer. I find it easier and neater to select each section of the clothing and paste into, rather than trying to rescale, copy and paste a texture large enough to fill the entire thing and then worry about the pattern being placed properly on each section.

In step 20, you mention refreshing the image in BodyShop before flattening the image. I have found no way to refresh the image without flattening and then saving over the original texture file. Am I missing something? Great tutorial BTW.

Yep - you're refreshing the image in Body Shop, which you can do by clicking on the little circular arrow icon in the display box next to the mannequin. You don't need to flatten the image in PhotoShop, just "save as". If you're using something different that insists you must, see if you can delete the step later, or step back if you need to.

Yasmin, Photoshop is a commercially available program (which means you have to convince your parents to buy it). There's no need to bump, or spam forums.

Hi, I've looked through the messages here and haven't seen this question so I'm hoping that someone has an answer.

I have followed the tutorials, and thank you so much! I can do the recolors and textures. But I have a big problem with the textures coming through blurry in the game. They don't look bad in Body Shop but when I turn the game on and make a character with those clothes, they look very blurry.

My question is, how the heck do I get crisp looking textures in the game? It's disappointing because I'd really like for my elders to have some Hawaiian textured bathing suits.

Thanks,
Jo

Set your graphics in the game to high. If that doesn't help, try saving your files in PhotoShop at a higher resolution.

Jomammatee
5th Jul 2005, 09:20 PM
I keep forgetting that the game resolutions can be set higher but I have a feeling that isn't going to make a difference for me. I don't have the recommended graphics card although I do have a compatible one.

A higher resolution in Photoshop? I have Paint Shop Pro but I've been able to figure the similarities. What would you recommend?

Thanks,
Jo

Faylen

I don't know PSP, so I couldn't tell you how to change the resolution settings in it. It should be in your file or edit pull-down menus, though.

If you mean change the increase the color depth, I can't increase it any further. It's at the top of the depth. All I can do to it is to decrease it and I wouldn't think I'd want to do that.

Faylen, thanks for your tutorial! But.. there's a simple question I need to ask. Umm.. I.ve followed every step in your tutorial.. However, when it comes to refreshing my sim in the bodyshop, I see no changes. it's the same as if I didn't make any changes with the clothes. Please help me.

Yes, I did.

Faylen
6th Jul 2005, 03:49 PM
The question is - did you "Save", or did you "Save As"? If you selected "Save", that's your problem right there. (I'm not talking down to you, it's just that I've seen this same question before, and it's always been caused by that. . .)

Jomammatee
6th Jul 2005, 04:32 PM
I finally solved my blurring problem, well, at least the blurring around the edges of the swimsuit I was making. I got a tip from someone else. It's kinda long to explain here. I've got to do a few more with the Hawaiian graphics I really want to use and then see if those graphics come out clear in the game.

It all looks clear in Body Shop but using it in the game is more blurry. I put my game in high resolution and all and it didn't change it so I guess it was my technique. Hopefully this new technique will solve it all.

Thanks for all the help and answering my questions quickly.

One probably final note on my blurring problem. I got a new video card--a GeForce 6200--and my clothing blur is gone! Woo hoo! I finally deduced that that was the problem by sending my file to a friend who had a high end card and the picture she sent back just wow'ed me soI went on a mission to buy a card.

Now can anyone tell me if I have to make the clothes I make or any objects University ready. I don't have University and will probably not get it. So do I have to do something to my objects--especially furniture--so that people with University can use my things? This may not be where to ask this but I didn't know where else to put my question. There are soooooo many topics on this board and I have tried reading through them all.

Thanks all,
Jo

Hi,

I'm very new to the sims community and I'm creating a website. I just can't figure out where to fined the files to use for the download of my clothing recolors. I've sent some files to a friend and the only ones that work are the ones I package in bodyshop but these change the name of the file when it goes into the general population and they also include the Sim. My friend said she downloads another type of file from other Sims2 sites that when placed in the download folder worked fine and didn't change the file name. It doen't have the little pack icon like mine and all you have to do in put it in the downloads folder.

I've looked all over the forum for an answer to this. Can you help me?

Sunray

When you tell bodyshop to put the clothing you made 'into the game', it builds a package file and throws it into your... either saved sims or download folder (I forget and I'm not on my pc right now).
What I did is make a new acct on my computer and then run sims in it, so it's a clean, fast loading game. Then I worked on my recolors, so they're easy to find.
Hopefully you included your name in the name of the recolor when you made it in bodyshop. If you did, you should be able to search your folders for your name and find your recolors.
I hope this helps!

I miss make-a-date from sim1, I loved that program...after a few clicks you could change a mini skirt with flats to a mini skirt with heels...Is it an easy task to do it with sims2? I have a few outfits that have flats shoes that I would love to convert to the high meshes....any tutuorials out there that could help me?

Not so easy with Sims2. WDSBrianna wrote a meshing tutorial, DatGen has a new function that cuts out a number of steps in it, and in the Skinning Forum there's a sticky with links to both of those, and a specific high-heel mesh tutorial. Go check them out and see if they give you the information you need.

I don't understand any of this. :( How do I get the shading to show up under the new fabric?

Do you use layers and adjust one of the layers?

I need it stated like you would to a five year old...

i have a question: re: fabric. do you want the prints on the fabric to be larger or smaller. (ie: the fruit in your texture) when increasing the size. I'm confused on this.

Faylen
3rd Sep 2005, 08:40 PM
In general, any fabric image you get will be too large to use directly on sim clothes. You will need to copy and paste it multiple times to itself after scaling it down to make a useable texture. I keep a separate file of textures in My Documents/My Pictures, where I keep the fabric images I like. If something can't be multiply pasted onto itself (distorted, edges can't match correctly, too small a sample, etc.) I just delete it. After I've made it into a larger sample, I save as, using a descriptive name, as a JPEG to use later.

Everything that I make shows up blurry in the game and in Bodyshop (once it actually loads it into the game, the preview before that seems fine.) The actual files themselves are not blurry at all. Even when I do a recolor using nothing but hue/saturation, it ends up blurry. I tried sharpening things but that didn't help. Could you give me any idea why? I'm using an older version of Photoshop but I don't know if that could be a problem. I checked the modes but they seem the same as the unmodified files. I can't change my BMPs from 24bit into anything less. I did try OS versus Windows but that didn't do much. If you can give me any help at all, I would greatly appreciate it. :(

Body Shop is included with your game. Look in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims2. You can make a shortcut to it, as well.

If your clothes are looking blurry in-game, then your first step is to maximize the game graphics. The icon with the three dots in the lower left of your game screen will allow you to make changes.

Unfortunately, I can't really maximize the game graphics without having horrible lag in refreshment rates and the potential of the whole game crashing, so I haven't tried that yet. (Plus, the Maxis made clothes still look significantly less blurry even on low graphics, so I'm thinking that may not be the problem.)

Another thing is that, in Body Shop, the preview of the item looks fine. It's when I put it onto a Sim (within Body Shop and in-game) that it suddenly looks terrible.

Yeah, that problem has been bounced around a lot. Unfortunately, there are only a few things you can do - maximize the game graphics (which you said was a problem for you) update your video card driver (not always possible, depending on what hardware you have) or upgrade your video card (which involves financial outlay.) I wish I could give you a better prognosis, but this problem has been around for a while, and that's basically what it comes down to. Sorry.

Well, I did run with all of those suggestions (I'd wanted to for awhile anyway, since I knew that the video card at the very least would improve gameplay overall) and it did help a lot. Some of my textures I think still need some sharpening (and perhaps more contrast) but a number of them came up more or less correct once the video card had improved the graphics enough for me to notice. I suppose most of that was common sense but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else that might have been going wrong first. Thanks again and keep up the good work of helping out silly people like myself! :D

I have long puzzled over how people get such beautiful textures into their skins, and manage to get all the shading incorporated.... question answered! hehehe. Between you and faeriegurl, I'm eventually going to have some skins that I think are worthly of the boards here, which is saying alot, I can barely color within the lines in a coloring book, but the tutorials offered here are so simplistic that even I can figure them out which again says a ton! Thank you so much again!!! and again!!!

thank you so much, I'm enjoying your tutorials and playing around with clothing recolors.

Ok, have a swatch of material I like, has images on it. But when I go to paste it onto the outfit, the images are too large. Instead of a basic background of tiny images, we'll use paisley as an example, I have like huge paisleys all over the top. How do I shrink the images?
I followed everything step by step. any ideas?
or should I find material with smaller images? :sadpanda:

Hope - right at the beginning of this tutorial, Faylen scales down the fabric pattern to 1/4 of it's original size. Depending on the size of the fabric swatch you have, you might need to scale it down more, but I expect you somehow missed some steps there. Also, at any time during the scaling, you can make your fabric swatch larger by pasting parts together and doing whatever you need to to make it look as one continuous piece. I actually like to make my fabric swatch larger before scaling it, because when I scale it, small imperfections are hidden in the course of the scaling.

Or in other words, if you *did* scale the fabric down and it's still too big, follow the steps to make the swatch larger. Then go back and scale it down again and make it larger again until you have something that works.

When I use photoshop to scale down a graphic (which is on a layer by itself) I have to drag the edges of the graphic (hold shift and drag a corner to preserve proportions..) There's also someplace - on my photoshop 7 it's part of the top bar, I think on photoshop 5 it was one of the many boxes/pallettes that you can open that appear on the right hand side - that lets you put in percentages. But in my photoshop 5 it didn't pop up automatically, I had to click around and find the window, as there are several all to the right side. It's one with several tabs in it that has various sorts of info.

If this doesn't help (it's only text) search the web for some photoshop tutorials till you find one for your version. Good luck to you!

And folks - PHOTOSHOP and PAINTSHOP (pro) are TWO totally different programs with different interfaces. They have very similar capabilities, and both will work - but please be very clear which program you are talking about - someone asked about photoshop and someone responded with a link to download paintshop. Faylen and I happen to own photoshop, so that is what we use. Paintshop is less expensive to purchase, and GIMP is free - but again, has its own interface that you'll need to learn.

Since you mentioned that, can you also use Adobe Photoshop if needed instead of the Paintshop Pro for clothing creations and textures, that wont mess up your game play?

tiggerypum
3rd Dec 2005, 08:46 AM
Regarding programs - you can use ANY graphics editing program that can produce a bmp file to edit. Photoshop has been an industry standard, so many people have it (or have an older version they were able to get inexpensively). Paintshop Pro costs much less than Photoshop and there's a free trial, so many others have that. GIMP is free, and I found the interface a bit confusing, and I haven't followed up enough on it. There are people on this site who have done t-shirt designs with very careful editing using MS Paint. So it's possible, even if more limited. You should use what you can get access to, the end bmp is fully compatible.

Btw, Faylen is using PHOTOSHOP in all her tutorials, so I'm puzzled about your question.

The only reason for choosing say photoshop over ms paint is that photoshop (and paintshop and gimp) have a lot more features - including layers. Faylen uses layers to lay her fabric over a Maxis outfit and let some of the shading come through, which produces a much more realistic looking outfit. If you wanted you could also *draw* on the shadows yourself, but even then it would be better to put them on a separate layer so that you can make them darker or lighter or even redraw them without messing up your 'fabric'.

Where do you get adobe photoshop?

tiggerypum
7th Dec 2005, 07:20 PM
You buy it. Besides which, seriously, GOOGLE is your friend. We're on the web here folks. Paintshop Pro is less expensive (but NOT free - there is a free trial, but you'll just start getting the hang of using it and your trial will be over). Btw, for what we do here an older version of photoshop will do just fine, so you might also be able to find some good web bargains for that.

GIMP is free. You'll need to use tutorials (again, available online) to learn how to use it.

really I need photoshop?

tiggerypum
9th Dec 2005, 03:08 AM
Simtovich - for you to be able to do many of the more complex editing techniques to edit the graphics and make new outfits, you need a graphics editing program that supports LAYERS. Layers are like transparencies (those thin sheets of clear plastic) that you can put different parts of your graphic on. It makes it easy to edit them, you can also make some layers transparent, and use say, the shading from a Maxis garment to shade your new outfit, and so on.

Three program that support layers (there might be more): Photoshop (expensive, but you do not need the newest version!), Paintshop Pro (trial on the web, costs less than photoshop), and GIMP (free, and I found the interface a bit confusing, so you will want to use tutorials to learn your way around)

Actually for any of these programs once you get them, doing some tutorials, particularly ones that teach you how to work with layers - is highly recommended. They are powerful and complex programs, and there's a lot to learn. When I first started working with photoshop, the layers were both wonderful and drove me batty because I'd end up on the wrong layer, edit on the wrong layer, etc. I still sometimes do that, and I've now been using it for years for my job. :P

How can I put only the logo in a top?

sorry for my bad English

Putting a logo on a shirt is pretty easy. All you need to do is take the image of the logo, copy it, and paste it onto the shirt. It might get distorted a bit on a female sim, because the image stretches over the body, and you may or may not want to reshape the image to compensate.

I got a fabric sample scale it down to about 5in x 5in then copy/pasted about 6 times ending up with a sample about 12 x 12 it covers the sleeves ok but it is still to small to cover the body and I've got no more space left in the original square which is locked and totally filled with pattern. I just left the sleeves changed saved as but also model will not refresh so tried flatten then save as (did the overwrite thing again) still no luck :yech: can anyone help me out I would love to get textures happening

Try tutorial #1. http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=39088 This tutorial is the advanced one that assumes you've already gotten all the basic recoloring steps down. I'm sure you are somehow not saving your finished work into the right place.

Also, make sure you are saving as a BMP file and that the filename is not changed at all. That will flatten it automatically. You should see that it's saving to your project inside your projects folder. If you saved it in the wrong place, just copy it to the right place.

To save your project for future edits/usefulness, save it as a photoshop or paintshop format giving it whatever name you want in some folder that's not your projects folder. *do not flatten it*, because then you won't be able to move the fabrics, change the transparencies or anything else fun anymore.

You need to go find the option that will actually save as a bmp. There should be some filetype choices someplace in your save box. Which verson of photoshop are you using?

When I say 'save as' a window pop up. Underneath my directory listing there is a line that says "Format:" with a pop up menu next to it. I select BMP on that menu. Then I make sure the filename at the top doesn't say anything like 'copy' or whatever in it. (this is photoshop 7, but all versions should have something like that)

Okay, question. Instead of copying and pasting the pattern over and over and then piecing together, etc., couldn't I just create a pattern fill in Photoshop? Seems it would be much easier. Maybe I'll try.

And does anyone have any favorite fabric sites they especially like? The ones I have aren't so great because they have teeny little samples that don't repeat, etc.

I just discovered your Web-site thanks to an ABBA fan (who presented her four ABBA Sims at www.abbasite.com). So I'm an absolute beginner in trying retexturing and recolouring clothes for my Sims.

On your Web-site I discover an amazing lot of possibilities (waooh !) and now this tutorial on recolouring and texture modifying for clothes is very clear. It seems to be easy, but only a first try (in practice) will tell. But I'm alway afraid of doing something wrong. Stupid, isn't it :sorry: ?

I haven't got Photoshop, but it seems to me that the whole process explained here is also made possible with "Picture It!". I learned a trick which was unknown to me : unlock an image file in Picture It to redimension it to fit to the size of a dress, shirt (etc.) for Sims. With the ordinary Paint tool, this is impossible and the result is always a catastrophe (lol !). It's upsetting to use Paint.

Thank you Faylen and all here at this very very useful Web-site.

I do the stuff that you said, but when I save it, it saves as a different file, so I can't change the texture on the clothing. What am I supposed to do now?

tiggerypum
3rd May 2006, 08:59 PM
Right. In the very first of these tutorials (you do see this is #3) it says that you need to make your setting say 'bmp' for what it saves, and then you need to edit the word 'copy' out of the name (if photoshop has put it into the name).

You can *also* save yourself a psd file, with all the layers (and give it a good name, if you do that) so you can go back and edit more at a later date without starting over.

Photoshop just 'insists' on being helpful that way, trying to keep you from overwriting your original by mistake.

Ohmigosh! Thanks so much for the tutorial! Just glancing over it, I can tell that it's something that I'm going to understand, so at last, I can give back to this community and stop moochin. lol
I tried making my own clothing around a year ago, but gave up. The tutorials out there were just too technical, with very little to no pictures.
I don't have Photoshop, but I have several different programs for photoediting (picture it! being one, and another one that came with my Canon scanner/printer/photocopier), so I'm excited to start.
Thanks again, and hopefully I'll be spittin somethin out soon! :-)

Anyways, thanks to your great tut, I'm gonna go make me some punk shirts! If they look good, I'll probably post them at MTS2!

:wtf: thanks it was alot of work but i got it not right away Once you've gotten the hang of recoloring, it's fun to add new textures to
your Sims' clothes.

HystericalParoxysm
14th Jul 2006, 11:20 PM
Photoshop will default to saving as a .psd, and will add " copy" to the end of your filename if you change it to .bmp - you have to take that part off to overwrite the original file and then click the reload button before your outfit will change in Body Shop. You have to make sure you save over the original texture .bmp before anything will change.

No, anything you make yourself will show up in Saved Sims. In fact, if you like what you did and want to upload it here (or elsewhere, heaven forfend!) the file you would compress and upload would be the one in your Saved Sims folder.

HystericalParoxysm
19th Aug 2006, 12:18 AM
If you didn't actually save over the original texture .bmp file, it won't show any changes when you refresh. Make sure you're actually saving over the original file (it'll ask you if you want to overwrite it). Photoshop will default to saving as a copy - you need to make sure it doesn't do that, but saves over the original and it should work fine.

It is possible to make good clothes without photoshop. As long as you are familiar with your graphic editing programme, you can usually adapt photoshop tutorials to suit. But, not with MSpaint, it is too limited.

There are some very good free paint programmes.

Paint.NET from http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html

Or,

Serif PhotoPlus 6.0 from http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/ which is a full programme, you need to register, so they can send you an unlock code. But, it is quite painless.

Or,

Gimp from http://www.gimp.org/ apparently a very good free rival to photoshop, but personally I couldn't get on with it.

tiggerypum
16th Jan 2007, 06:51 AM
Btw, this is covered in the FAQ of this area, and we have some basic recoloring tutorials for both Paint.net (which is not as crisp when scaling graphics as some programs) and Gimp.

Once you've done the basic tutorials, you can learn a bit more by looking at techniques from other tutorials, because for the most part they all use similar capabilities. Once you know how to use layers and effects and copy and paste and such in the editor you're using, you might find you can follow along in the other tutorials and 'translate' easily enough.

LMAO!
I use the Gimp... And... Well...
You can do absolutely everything in this tutorial with either the Gimp or Photoshop. I read through it, and every single command also has something the same with a different name or... Well... Exactly the same. xD
The Gimp is a free alternative to Photoshop, by the way. Can't necessarily do EVERYTHING Photoshop does, but it can do alot of things. ^^;''
In any case, thanks for the tutorial. I'll find it quite useful. ^^;''

Also, the gimp has a somewhat simpler way to recolor solid colors... It has an adjuster that can let you change the image's color to black and white, green, torquoise, blue, red... Just about any color. ^^;''
Though, maybe Photoshop has that too. I'm not experienced with Photoshop, as I don't own it myself, so I couldn't say.

I noticed that since this tutorial has been moved and the "create" page re-categorized, that there isn't a place to save the .jpeg file used in this tutorial of the pattern. I simply copied and pasted, but fear I'm doing it wrong. Also, this tutorial doesn't tell you what clothing we are using to paste the pattern on. I could find it, but I don't want to get the wrong one.

If anybody could help here, that'd be great! Thanks!

I seem to ALWAYS have a problem with making a new layer, and then having something 'happen' in the new layer.
For instance in this tutorial, I tried to "fill" the new layer as you said. However, (and its not just THIS tutorial,) Nothing appears in the little box on the right side of the screen under the layers tab except a New Number AND a checkerboard background.

Please if you can, tell me, what am I missing here, or not doing right? As I said, it happens to me more often than not! I am fairly comfortable with photoshop, though quite new, but I AM good at following directions, and for this problem, I am stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would Google the problem, but I have no idea what to write!

Thanks in advance!

Superme145 - if you can't figure out 'paste into' just 'paste' and then crop as necessary. Faylen was just noticing that her fabric piece was not big enough to cover the whole graphic, so she's pasting it into one section of the clothing at a time.

wolfgal - make sure you're actually overwriting the file(s) in the projects folder - not having it change the name to say 'copy' or somesuch.

emblysims
30th Nov 2007, 02:53 AM
Another really easy way to do somewhat the same thing is, when you have the texture you want in a document, just go up to Edit... Define pattern. Name it whatever, then you can go to the same Fill menu, just select "pattern" instead of "foreground color" and then adjust the opacity.
Thanks for the tute!

starryeyezz90

I'm having a bit of a problem. Whenever I add the texture, when I "save as" the other file names are not there, then I'll try to look at it in body shop, but no changes came up. the same thing happened to me when I got to the step where you add the butterfly to the sweater in your other tutorial.

tiggerypum
15th Jan 2008, 01:11 AM
starryeyezz90 - you must figure out how to make that 'save as' save with --exactly-- the same filename and into the correct folder. If the filename says 'copy' as part of the name, or if you do not save over the graphics in the projects folder, then they will not load.

streakycheese, I think it was just an image that didn't load for you that time. Next time, right click on any images that don't load or seem to load right and 'view' them... and see if you can get them to load.

I know this is old news to many people, but I've only just begun to seriously try modding. I love that you showed how things can go wrong, so that you can explain how these problems can be fixed.
