View Full Version : Two Questions regarding the Crypt O'Nite.

I'm currently in the process of building up my new hood, constantly cross-referencing images taken from Maxis lots and there's a couple things about the Crypt O'Nite that interest me.
One is the dance pit. From what I can tell, it was done simply by lowering the terrain. What I was wondering was if it'd be possible, and if so how, to build a stage in the dance pit that is connected to, and level with the main floor. Preferably without having to put the entire building on a foundation. Is this possible, or am I thinking too complex for the game?
The other thing is the carpeting. I cannot figure out for the life of me how they did carpeting that complex. It torments me especially since I feel like it's something horrendously simple. How do I make carpets in patterns like that?

It's been ages since I've played with a downtown so I'll try to remember...
I'm pretty sure the dance pit is done by having most of the thing on a foundation and the center part not. If there's no slope down into it, then it's definitely done that way (Nightlife was pre-stage foundations). If there is a slope, you can just use modular stairs to make it the right height and then level it. Stage connected to the main floor wouldn't work - you might be able to get it level by drawing it out from the pit part to the main level but the game considers them different levels and there would have to be stairs to get from one part to another.
Patterns in carpets are done by using small fences to lay out the edges and then filling them with various floor types. There's some pics of that here: http://mikeinside.modthesims2.com/building/mosaic/index.html

The Crypt O'Nite is definitely not on a foundation, and the pit is definately sloped. I kinda figured the stage idea wouldn't work, oh well.
But the carpet... all I have to do is stencil it with fences? Damn I figured it would be something simple. Thank you muchly HP.

Sacred Nym,
May tile the plain grids to fixate them first before doing a ramp if that is the case.

Um... I'm sorry, I have no idea what you just said. Could you maybe give a bit more detailed explanation?

Sorry,
may use floor tiles to fill the flat [squary grid floor] tiles in order to force the game engine to fixate the location and positions of these floor tiles.
And then you may work on the inclined floor tiles.
Sometimes, you may need some objects placed on the inclined floor tiles to tile them the way you want it.
May also apply the shift-left-mouse click to shift-change contiguous floor tile patterns as needed.
As one of the last resort, using boolprop constraintfloorelevation false on patterned floor tiles and then fix the upper level/storey/page.
If all the previous means fail, you can ask how to mod the lot file to get the floor tile patterned the way you want.
