View Full Version : Deleting CC that comes with new lots

It's not a technical issue, so I post it here.
I'm afraid to install most of downloaded lots because unlike normal CC, the CC they install with them goes into a place I can't determine. I can't find it in the Downloads folder. And that means that afterwards if I didn't like the lot and deleted it from the game and from the bin, all the CC it installed remained in the game, right? And the game grows uselessly in size and becomes slower :(
Can somebody please explain how to find and delete CC that new lots install?

Are you using Clean Installer or the game's native Sims2Pack installer? Either way, the cc does install to the Downloads folder.
The benefit of using Clean Installer (besides being able to see what you're installing before you install it) is that you'll end up with fewer nonsense file names. And you can capture the files it has installed (before you launch your game) and drop them into a subfolder for that specific lot. I have about a dozen subfolders in Downloads with names like lot_summercottage and lot_coveapartments...then I run Clean Installer across all those folders to look for duplicates because I am obsessed with reducing my Downloads folder size.

Strange, I was sure that CC goes into some other place, rather than Downloads folder. But maybe I was wrong, indeed. I checked the descriptions of two lots I installed last, and they contained very little CC. One contained none :), another two hacks only, and indeed I found two files with nonsensible names in the Downloads folder. That must be them.
Thanx for the Clean Installer suggestion, I downloaded it.
But I'd like to ask, is there a way to check which files are those, with nonsensible names? I mean, right now I guessed that they're those two hacks for additional table slots, but once there are more files with nonsensible names, it might be hard to guess what they are and which I need to delete (if I decide to keep some of them). Is it possible somehow, is there a program which can let me see what these files do? For example, it would be neat if it could tell me that this file is a hack, and that file is a table mesh, etc.

You could use SimPe. However, the Clean Installer can sometimes tell you what it is. But you can also view an image from the file for what it is. (i.e. if it's makeup, you'll see the thumbnail that you would see in game.)

That's only if the creator included an image in the file.
You can use clean installer to see what kind of packages you have in your downloads folder and most have a preview image in clean installer as well. You can get a lot of information about how to use the program at the same place you downloaded it.
