Disappearing and freezing sims

My Sims are disappearing left and right. Sometimes they are still there, as I can see the things they move as being moved by invisible men. Sometimes they disappear and freeze (I think-- hard to say since they become invisible.) When I start a new game things seem fine for a day, then the vanishing begins. (At first I thought it was Bridgeport, but it's happening in Sunset Valley now as well.)

This is, it seems, going around. There are several threads in the Sims site forums. If you do a search (disappearing Sims) on YouTube there are two videos posted of the problem. No one seems to have an answer.

I'm on a mac, MacPro, completely up to date with an ATI radion 4870 card and 8 Gig of ram. The game renders fine otherwise.

I have the base game installed, as well as HELF, FLane and Late Night.

ANY suggestions would be greeted with real gratitude.

PS. Yes, I have CC, and three mods installed-- but it happened when I played after removing them, so I put them back :)

As you can see from the sticky in this forum, this is a very common issue. Unfortunately we haven't been able to pin down any pattern as to what causes it, and so we really don't know how it might be fixed.
